The Winking Skeever is an inn and bar found in Solitude. It is the first building on the left-hand side when entering Solitude from the southwest. The name of the inn is proudly displayed on a sign adorning its front door. When asked about it, the owner, Corpulus Vinius, says that it was named for a childhood pet skeever that was said to be able to wink. If Corpulus dies, his son, Sorex Vinius, will take over renting out the inn's rooms, but Sorex will not buy or sell food (see bugs).
Several citizens will point you toward the Winking Skeever. If you meet Sorex Vinius outside the tavern, he will say: "New in town, right? If you need a place to sleep, head over to the Winking Skeever. We keep a fine inn." and "You know, the Winking Skeever's not just the best inn in Solitude. It's the also the only inn in Solitude." Vivienne Onis will tell you: "Most people head over to the Winking Skeever. If you're not interested in music or drink, you can at least talk to Corpulus. He can fill you in on any of the latest gossip." Most guards in Solitude will also recommend the Winking Skeever: "The Winking Skeever's got warm beds and cold mead. You look like you could use both." Lisette, the bard employed at the tavern, will also mention the place: "Come by the Winking Skeever any time you want to hear a tune." and "You should think about staying the night. Corpulus keeps a clean inn." and will add: "Generally, if you want rumors, you should talk to Corpulus." Outside Solitude, a few people will mention the Winking Skeever as well. In Dragon Bridge, Corpulus' cousin Faida will tell you: "I was a barmaid at the Winking Skeever when I met my husband, rest his soul. Wasn't for him, I'd still be working there!" Thaer, the carriage driver outside Solitude, will also tell you: "If you need it, you can get a room for a fair price at the Winking Skeever, just inside the main gate." Most notably, Delphine will send you to the Winking Skeever to meet Malborn during Diplomatic Immunity: "I'll get word for him to meet you in Solitude, at the Winking Skeever -- you know it?"
* This person becomes a fence after completing Scoundrel's Folly.
† This person becomes innkeeper if Corpulus is dead.
‡ Will be exiled here if The Pale is given to the Empire in Season Unending and subsequently retaken by the Stormcloaks.

The entrance leads directly into a large common room where part of it has a vaulted ceiling while the center is double height with a wooden balcony above. There are wooden benches, flower pots containing deathbell flowers and pillars supporting the vaulted ceiling around the edge of the center of the room. The innkeeper, Corpulus Vinius stands behind the counter and greets customers. On the counter is a bottle of wine and of spiced wine, a loaf of bread and several pieces of cheese. - There are three shadowmarks found here:
- Completing the Delivery quest for Sorex Vinius makes low value items freely available, including two beds that will grant the Well Rested bonus, (but not the rentable bed).
- There are a total of at least 56 empty wine bottles available for free as long as you have completed the above quest. These can be used at the Atronach Forge to make Conjurer's Elixir.
- In ESO, the inn was named The Lonely Troll.
