Making an account
I've tried to make an account for 2 days and everytime i do it says "Visitors to this wiki using your IP address have created 1 account in the last day, which is the maximum allowed in this time period. As a result, visitors using this IP address cannot create any more accounts at the moment" But i've never even visited this site before. Is there any way i can fix this? — Unsigned comment by 78.20.51.237 (talk) at 23:32 on 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi all! I wanted to see if it was possible for the administrators to help me change my username to my updated handle (From "YoungPalpatine" to "PalpFiction"). I greatly appreciate the time you're taking :) — Unsigned comment by PalpFiction (talk • contribs) at 19:06 on 31 January 2021

Disciplinary Actions Against AKB
This post is to inform everyone that disciplinary actions have been taken against User:Alpha_Kenny_Buddy today for a variety of serious and unacceptable behavior he's shown towards several of the UESP staff. Due to a pattern of this sort of behavior over the years I've decided to de-admin him on all UESP platforms. We will continue to work on the social media side of the site and if he wishes to become an admin again it will be a community decision based on his behavior.
We do not tolerate any sort of harassment by our staff (official or otherwise) towards other staff or users of the site. In any large organization such as UESP there will always be conflicts of choices and personality but we expect everyone to treat each other with mutual respect and deal with disagreements in a polite manner. Any issues with staff/admin should be directed to other admins or myself. -- Daveh (talk) 15:58, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- This is the first I am hearing about any recent complaints and this action comes as quite a shock to me personally. I have never had concerns about AKB's performance as a wiki admin and would be happy to support a re-nomination provided these private matters are settled in a satisfactory manner. —Legoless (talk) 18:26, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
-
- I would like to formally apologize to any user who has felt victimized by me in any capacity. I have never intended to make anyone feel worse for their time on the UESP, and I hope we can someday reach a point where we can have an amicable relationship. I hope I can reestablish the faith that has been lost in me, and return as an administrator with your support in due time. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:32, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Youtubers Using UESP content
I do not desire to have content taken down, but what is the stance on Youtubers using UESP without citing? Camelworks' latest video uses UESP for information, pictures from lore Umbra' Keth, and animations from the gamespace section at this timestamp, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryjNBM09CgA&t=1316s, even going as far as quoting a bit from UESP with "demonic webbed feet" (24:17) from his lore page. Other Youtubers do similar things, but a shoutout in their description should take only about 20 seconds to type.Zebendal (talk) 00:00, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- See UESPWiki:Copyright and Ownership - we require attribution. Not very much we can do if YouTubers refuse to give credit however. —Legoless (talk) 10:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Repeal of Interaction Ban
I was reminded earlier today that AKB and I are still officially under an Interaction Ban. In reality, however, we've been ignoring that ban for quite some time now, at first for wiki business only, but that eventually led to us being on good terms. Neither our rules nor Wikipedia's clearly cover what to do in this event, but a community appeal seems the closest thing, so in that spirit, I'm posting to ask that the community declare the interaction ban officially over. – Robin Hood (talk) 13:49, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Email address change issues
Hi. I have changed the email address on my account; however, after about half an hour, I still have not received a message at the updated email address, to confirm the address. Does it usually take this long? I have checked spam and deleted items/trash folders, but it's not there. Thanks in advance for any assistance in this matter Sigshane (talk) 10:33, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- We've had some trouble with certain providers incorrectly tagging us as spam before. If you can just send me a personal e-mail from the new account to robinhood70@live.ca, I can force the wiki to verify it manually. – Robin Hood (talk) 13:37, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Item Link template embedded in ESO Alliances template not working
There appears to be a problem with nesting Item Link templates inside of the ESO Alliances template. Whatever is included in the Item Link template does not appear. The alliance icon and any other text appears properly. This problem can be seen on the Provisioner Writ and the Chefs pages. Fiwiji (talk) 19:27, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting us know! It's an ugly fix, but I've managed to find a way around the problem. Let us know if there are any further issues. – Robin Hood (talk) 22:03, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
ESO SKill Notes template needs update
The current ESO SKill Notes template says skill values are based on Max Mag/Stam of 7958, Max Health of 8744, and Weapon/Spell Damage of 1037. The current base values are Max Mag/Stam of 12000, Max Health of 16000, and Weapon/Spell Damage of 1000.
Also, Where should the appear on the skill page? Is there a template for it or do I just link to the image? I think many skills will need this when Update 30 comes out. Fiwiji (talk) 23:36, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- I've sent a message to some of our patrollers to get them to update the ESO Skill Notes values. I don't play ESO myself, so I try to avoid making that sort of change.
- As far as the icon goes, the Online Skill Link template will automatically take care of updating the numbers as needed, so you don't have to do anything at all. It'll appear next to the name of the skill or, if you're looking on the skill page itself, there'll be a large banner at the top saying that it's out of date (although the banner doesn't use the icon). If you want to see an example of the icon for yourself, just go to {{Online Skill Link/Doc}} and change the example (making sure you're editing the one outside the <pre> tags) to add
|update=27
. When you do a show preview, it'll show you the icon. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:49, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
I can't edit the bot request page
Admins,
I tried to add a request to the bot request page just now, but it was disallowed. I thought maybe the filter objected to the two links I had in my first version; they were the full URLs to a couple of the UESP maps, rather than using the MapLink template. I edited my request to change those two links to use the MapLink template and tried again, but now I'm b& on that page for good.
Is there some way I can be allowed to edit that page again?
Thanks! 73.3.58.200 06:03, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- It was actually the size of your edit that was the problem, rather than the content itself. Since you're an IP address, and most of our spam comes from IP addresses posting either in User space or Project(=UESPWiki) space, you got hit. If you'd broken up your edit into smaller chunks, it probably would've gone through (unless you'd gotten hit by other filters, like the ones you'd suspected). I've recovered the text and re-posted it for you.
- As far as the issue itself, I've pinged the site owner, who's the one that created that code. Whenever I hear back from him, I'll reply on the Bot Requests page itself, where the original post is, although I suspect it'll actually just be a template change. – Robin Hood (talk) 16:07, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
-
- Aha! I compared the size of my attempted edit (about the map search links) to my previous edits that *did* go through (about the Nuisance Beast and Restoration Chest links), so now I have an idea of about where the size limit is. I will attempt to make less-wordy single edits, or a series of edits, if I edit something in that space in the future. Thanks for your help! 73.3.58.200 05:31, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Online:DLC subpage moves
I fully agree with the Online:DLC subpage moves. It was discussed at the time of the initial subpaging, but as I recall, some of the pages were in use as landing pages, others were redirects, etc. If this has all been addressed, it makes sense to move them. BUT, please leave the redirects from the moves in place! Templates thrive on consistency, so it's a much better design to leave the templates pointing at the subpages and getting redirected from there than to have to write the templates to handle the fact that some of the templates are at their regular root-space pages (i.e., Online:Dragon Bones) while others are disambiguated (i.e., Online:Blackwood (DLC)). Either that or setup new redirects at, for example, Online:Dragon Bones (DLC) so that as far as the template's concerned, they all follow the same naming pattern. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:10, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Main Page Tweaks
Just letting everyone know about a couple of minor tweaks to the Main Page:
-
- Moved the Featured Article section to its own sub-page under Main_Page/Featured_Article.
- Moved the Featured Image section to its own sub-page under Main_Page/Featured_Image.
- Moved the Did You Know section to its own sub-page under Main_Page/Did You Know Transclusion (to distinguish from the existing Main_Page/Did You Know).
The reason for this is that we're working on a mobile update that needs to pull in these pages individually and its much easier if they are in their own pages. -- Daveh (talk) 14:47, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
Main Page Game Carousel
I was recently shown a concept for a "Game Carousel" for use on the Main Page and think its a great idea! The copied User:Daveh/Game_Carousel from User:Dcsg/Sandbox is shown below:
And a quick concept image showing how the main page might look:
We're working on a mobile app update that has a similar game carousel so adding one to the desktop and regular mobile wiki seems like natural idea. Some initial thoughts on the specific carousel design and placement:
-
- Location -- Between the top logo/introduction and the news/FA sections seems natural. Could also add it within the introduction section.
- Old Logo -- I'm not too attached to the old dagger logo despite it being the original site logo. If the main page works/looks better without that's fine.
- Missing Links -- Someone mentioned adding an "All Games" link but if there's others let me know.
- Mobile -- Might have to be tweaked to work/look better on mobile devices.
Further comments and ideas on this and other Main Page improvements welcome! -- Daveh (talk) 13:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- I love this idea and think that this is a great time to do this. I would personally remove the extra section on the right as it looks awkward and forced, I would also suggest that we remove the top banner and dagger logo. The side section on the left could potentially be removed too as its just repeating what this carousel is already doing, in general I'd suggest making the main page more compact/sleek with the news section being made smaller like it is on the app.
Imperialbattlespire (talk) 14:20, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
-
- Generally I like the idea and the placement (the visual design can do with some work, personally), but I also think the section of other games on the right can go. TES Travels doesn't belong there though. "Browse" as a H1 is a bit generic. I'd go with "Elder Scrolls Games" for more context and SEO. The old logo I agree should go too. Disagree the sidebar should be now removed. Its site-wide and an established pattern. It would be extremely risky to remove that familiarity older readers would have without some form of usability testing.--Jimeee (talk) 14:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

- May I ask what's wrong with Travels? They're bona fide spinoff games. Additionally, since removal of the extra links seems imminent, I'd add a link to All Content somewhere. Maybe below it all, maybe as a link for the "Browse" section header. I would also suggest pruning the below links to just
Lore • General • Books • Mod

Page Protection
I propose that we protect General:Gender and Sexual Diversity to only allow users who are logged in to edit it. The subject matter unfortunately makes it a target for vandalism. Deleting "Online : Rat Problems" discussion page
Hello, I've posted something on Rat Problems discussion page, creating it in the process, but a short time after I found the answer to my question (which was if writing the Detailed Walkthrough sufficient to suppress the Online Quest Project template). So, as it is the only thing that was written on the page, since I deleted it short after, and my question won't be useful to anyone in my opinion, maybe it'd be better to delete this discussion page. Change username please
I would like to get my wiki username changed to TheRockWithAMedicineCupOnHisHead (or TheRock, or TheRockWithAMedicineCup or something more reasonable) to match my other accounts. I know, name's bizarre, but I've used it in the past when publishing Scrolls content from a few devs and it would help to have things look consistent. Username-72 (talk) 22:36, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Your new name is unusually long, but if it's what you're using on other sites, I'd rather respect the initial request and use the full name rather than shortening it to something "more reasonable", as you put it. Lore:Slavery
Well met friends,
I'm new to UESP, but I've got a lot of experience with Wikipedia, and I was thinking about writing a lore article about slavery. However, I just found out that Lore:Slavery was deleted in March 2013 (see also Lore talk:Slavery), and after being userfied as User:Eric Snowmane/Bedt and then as User:Damon/Bedt, it was deleted in July 2021 by author request. I presume the text is still available somewhere, and I would like to read it, and perhaps make another attempt at writing a successful lore article that complies to all rules and guidelines, and incorporates new lore emerging since 2013. As far as I understand the deletion discussion, at the time almost all lore on slavery was confined to Morrowind, and therefore the Morrowind:Slaves article was sufficient. However, almost everything I've learnt about slavery, I got from ESO lore, which chronologically predates Morrowind. The deletion discussion did indicate that ESO (launched 2014) could add a significant amount of slavery lore, and that userfication could be a good temporary solution until ESO came out.
Well, we are now 7 years into ESO, with more lore being added frequently, and one of the core dimensions of ESO is the Three Banners War: the conflict between AD, DC and EP. The Ebonheart Pact in particular is frequently said to be an unlikely alliance, not only because of previous wars between Nords and Dunmer, but also because the Dunmer have historically enslaved many Argonians. And yet, the free Argonians came to the Dunmer and Nords' rescue in 2E 572 at Vivec's Antlers. The subsequent formation of the Ebonheart Pact included the abolition of Dunmeri slavery of Argonians (but not Khajiit). Lorebooks such as Lore:Guide to the Ebonheart Pact make clear that 'addressing the injuries suffered by the once-enslaved Argonians' is vital to the survival of the Pact. In other words, it is such an essential part of the ESO narrative, that it deserves a more detailed treatment. It should be obvious that such a treatment will not fit in the existing Morrowind:Slaves article. And that is before we even start on topics such as Khajiit slavery by non-Dunmer, Nede slavery in Cyrodiil by the Ayleids and the Lore:Alessian Slave Rebellion.
Secondly, I'm not convinced by User:Minor Edits' arguments that 'We don't have an article on taxes, or civil liberties, or death, or the Tamrielic economy. I think we should be sticking to articles which can have a tangible focus - a person, a place, an organization, an event, etc. (...) It might be different if a concept was some strange TES invention, but the real-world concept of slavery and the one held in TES are fundamentally the same. There's no need for us to reinvent the wheel on this.' As a matter of fact, we do have an article on Lore:Death (since July 2018), and similar lore articles on Lore:Ancestor Worship, Lore:Marriage, and Lore:Music. All four of these exist in the real world and fundamentally work the same in TES, so why are these four topics good enough for a lore article, but slavery is not? I think it's high time that UESP got a proper lore article on slavery.
If the userfied text of the deleted Lore:Slavery article still exists, I hereby request its undeletion. If granted, it could be temporarily moved to my userspace, where I'll improve it before republication. If it doesn't exist anymore, or I don't think the text is useful for the article I want to write, I could also start from scratch. Either way, I'd like to reach consensus first that there should be such an article, and that it won't be immediately challenged again upon republication. Greetings, SkyrimScholar (talk) 00:13, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm inclined to grant the undeletion request (but moving it to their user space after), so that SkyrimScholar can see what was there and perhaps work it into a viable article. Obviously, though, this can be a touchy subject, and I believe we've had problems in the past with fantasy racism, so I'd like to hear from others before making a final decision. I've had a look at the page that was deleted and it's definitely a "mature audiences" page, but I don't think that on its own is enough to justify either keeping or deleting it. On a side note, the last edit to the page said it was blanked as a duplicate, so there may be some other page somewhere that we need to track down, particularly if that page is substantively different. I'll see what I can find. – Robin Hood (talk) 03:43, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
-
- Actually, after looking around, I've found that the page is very roughly the same as Morrowind:Slavery was at the time, and since that's already available for people to see, I don't see any reason to deny the undeletion request. I've undeleted the page and moved it to User:SkyrimScholar/LoreSlavery. That'll allow the sandbox page to be compared to historical and/or current pages, just to be sure nothing has been missed. – Robin Hood (talk) 04:38, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
-
-
- Thank you Robin Hood! I'll go and read it now, and see if this is a useful text to build on, or that I'd rather start from scratch. Greetings, SkyrimScholar (talk) 12:10, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Okay, this is going to take a lot of work. Indeed, the text is very similar to that used in Morrowind:Slaves, and it may be quite accurate for the way it is portrayed in Morrowind, but it needs additional references for verification, to be balanced, and to take the correct tense; what is the position of slavery in Tamriel in the present (which so far seems to be post-4E 201)? Perhaps a viable structure is to deal with slavery by province chronologically? So I'll describe the origins, development and eventual abolition of slavery in each province (rather than by race), and thus they will become nine tales of oppression and deliverance, wherever applicable. I'll take the existing text for the province of Morrowind and improve it, while the other provinces will be started more or less from scratch. Greetings, SkyrimScholar (talk) 12:27, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
