High Isle PrologueEdit
Ascending DoubtEdit
After you have rescued Guild Scholar Valessea and recovered the medallions from Sareloth Grotto, Jakarn will ask you to meet with his employer at her camp eastwards of Vivec City. She will want to speak with you to corroborate Jakarn's story:
- "Ah, so you're the darling Jakarn was just telling me about. The one who helped him complete the mission I specifically told him not to bungle. Thank you for rescuing Valessea. I prefer that no harm comes to my associates—especially the lovely ones."
- We also recovered the medallions that the Ascendant Order stole.
- "So Jakarn mentioned. Well done! I'm not sure how the Ascendant Order ascertained our plans, but at least you recovered the invitation medallions. They're the key, after all. Figuratively and literally.
Oh, that's good. I should write that down." - What are these medallions actually for?
- "Hmm. I suppose you've earned that information. The Society of the Steadfast has decided to sponsor peace talks to end the Three Banners War. The medallions will allow the chosen delegates to enter the hidden location where the talks will be held."
- Why does the Ascendant Order want to disrupt the peace talks?
- "That, my dear, is precisely what I plan to figure out. These talks are too important to allow anything to interfere with them. We must determine what the Ascendant Order wants, and we must do so quickly.
But first, may I have the medallions?" - Of course. Here are the five medallions.
Leaving the conversation and returning before handing over the medallions:
- "About those medallions you recovered, my dear. May I have them now?"
- Of course. Here are the five medallions.
- "Ah, aren't they beautiful? One for each delegation invited to the peace talks. And this is for you. Take it with my thanks.
And know that the Society of the Steadfast's coffers are very deep. You'll be paid very well for your continued assistance."
A King's RetreatEdit
- "Now that we recovered the medallions, it's time to deliver them to the various delegations.
You know about the peace talks and the stakes we're facing. Are you willing to help us finish this, despite the threat posed by the Ascendant Order?" - What do you need me to do?
- "I need someone trustworthy to deliver the invitation medallions. Jakarn and I will deliver medallions to the alliance leaders so they can assign them to their chosen delegates.
I'd like you to deliver the ones for the Fighters and Mages Guilds." - Why are the Fighters and Mages Guilds invited to the peace talks?
- "The Guilds are respected and influential in their own right. They deserve to be part of these negotiations.
Here. Two medallions. And look, Arch-Magister Delric has just arrived. You can deliver the Mages Guild medallion to him first." - All right, I'll deliver the invitation medallions to the Mages Guild and the Fighters Guild.
If you choose to not to start the quest yet and exit out, she will say.
- Lady Arabelle: "If you're quite ready, my dears, I believe it is time to finish this business."
Speaking with Lady Arabelle after starting the quest:
- "Please be careful with those medallions, dear. It took a great deal of resources to craft them, and we don't have time to make any more.
Deliver one to Arch-Magister Delric and then make haste to the Fighters Guildhall in your capital." - Jakarn mentioned you used to be an agent for High King Emeric.
- "Did he now? And what other secrets has he revealed, I wonder. Well, let me sate your curiosity.
I've been many things in my long career. Mercenary, Lion Guard officer, spy, and agent of the High King, to name a few. I have many talents, my dear." - Right. Like an author. You wrote the Investigator Vale books, didn't you?
- "Never believe what you read in the chronicles. Do these look like the ink-stained fingers of a scrivener to you?
I am rather fond of the bawdy investigator and her exploits, though. They remind me of my younger, carefree days of adventure." - So you aren't the author of the Investigator Vale books?
- "Why don't we set this aside for now. We both have places to be and time is short. If you want to discuss rumors and innuendos, we can talk later. Perhaps over a meal and an expensive bottle of wine?
For now, just deliver your medallions, dear."
Valessea will then open three portals so you can begin delivering the medallions:
- Guild Scholar Valessea: "I'll create portals for you and Jakarn, Lady Arabelle."
- Lady Arabelle: "Good luck, everyone. Remember, the future of Tamriel is at stake."
- <Jarkan and Lady Arabelle enter the portals.>
When she is gone, you will soon learn that the medallions have been sabotaged when Arch-Magister Delric after putting his on. Valessea will create a dispelling powder and asks you to catch up with Jakarn to stop him from handing over the medallions. After dispelling the magic on the medallion in Windhelm you catch up with Jakarn in Skywatch. After dealing with the Dominion medallion, a projection of Valessea will appear with bad news. Valessea will explain she was attacked again by the Ascendant Order just before she delivered the Fighters Guild medallion. More worryingly, she can no longer get in contact with Lady Arabelle and thinks she may be in trouble. Lady Arabelle went to Sword's Rest isle to deliver the Covenant medallion directly to High King Emeric.
After reaching Sword's Rest Isle you will find the Ascendant Order has already arrived and plan to kill King Emeric. You and Jakarn will search for Lady Arabelle in the keep, witnessing the Ascendant Champion's superior, the Ascendant Magus along the way.
In the basement, near the ladder, you will find Lady Arabelle surrounded by a few bodies:
- Lady Arabelle: "Ah, there you are. Your timing is impeccable."
Speak with Lady Arabelle to update her and see what she knows:
- "I'm not sure what the Ascendant Order is doing here, but they seem determined to eliminate me and Emeric. I've been able to avoid most of their forces, and the few I couldn't—well, they hardly posed any trouble.
How did you know where to find me?" - Valessea contacted us. Said she couldn't reach you. The medallions, the order altered them.
- "I hoped Valessea would sense our trouble. When the Ascendant Champion and her forces arrived by ship, they brought a powerful mage with them. Most of the island's defenses were rendered useless by his magic.
But what was that about the medallions?" - They have a death spell on them. It killed Delric, but Valessea made this powder to dispel it.
- "A dispelling powder? Very clever! Sorry to hear about poor Delric, but I assume you took care of the other medallions? Good.
Last I checked, Emeric was safe in his private quarters. The wards there are still in place, but they won't hold forever." - How can we stop the Ascendant Champion?
- "With a plan, my dear. Head up to the courtyard and confront the Ascendant Champion. In the meantime, Jakarn and I will make our way around the back and surprise her mage from behind."
- I'll go to the courtyard and deal with the Ascendant Champion.
- "Excellent. And I'll sprinkle this powder on the medallion along the way.
Remember, we must stop the Ascendant Champion. If High King Emeric dies, any chance to proceed with the peace talks will be lost. We can't allow that to happen."
Talking with Lady Arabelle again before leaving:
- "Jakarn and I will deal with the order's mage while you use your exceptional skills to stop the Ascendant Champion.
If all goes as planned, this should be over quickly. Then High King Emeric can decide who will represent him at the peace talks."
When you reach the courtyard, you will find the Ascendant Champion directing the mages to bring down the ward. Lady Arabelle and Jakarn will be sneaking around:
- Ascendant Order Mage: "We're almost through the wards, champion."
- Lady Arabelle: "Take this, you coward! Look out!"
- <As Lady Arabelle attacks, the Champion unleashes a burst of lightning.>
- The Ascendant Champion: "I will take care of this!"
The Ascendant Champion will be waiting for you to attack and fights with a range of lightning magic and her greatsword. Once she is dead, Lady Arabelle and Jakarn will come down from behind the gate:
- Jakarn: "Ugh. At least I didn't land on my face."
- Lady Arabelle: "Ah, good work, my dear! How exciting."
Speak with Lady Arabelle:
- "Well! Nothing warms the blood like a bit of a scuffle, wouldn't you say? That mage underestimated me, the poor dear.
It's over now, at least. All that's left is to deal with this medallion and get it to High King Emeric." - I gave you the dispelling powder. Didn't you use it yet?
- "I've been a little busy, dear. Now go outside, get on your boat, and return to camp. I'll meet you there.
I need to dispel the medallion. Then … well, situations like this tend to stress out the high king. I can help him with that. I have before." - I'll meet you back at your camp in Vvardenfell.
Talking to her again before leaving:
- "Don't worry about me, dear. Emeric and I go way back. I know all the ways to calm him down after a long and grueling battle. I have a knack for that sort of thing.
I promise not to take too long. I'll meet you back at my camp in Vvardenfell shortly."
When you reach Lady Arabelle's camp again, you will overhear Jakarn worrying over Lady Arabelle:
- Jakarn: "Lady Arabelle, are you sure you're not injured? Everything happened so fast at the keep."
- Lady Arabelle: "Enough, Jakarn. I've been dealing with worse villains since before you were born!"
Speak with Lady Arabelle to complete the quest:
- "Things took a few unexpected turns, but we delivered the medallions and the peace talks can proceed as planned.
I wonder who the alliance leaders will send as their delegates? Hmm. I haven't seen Rigurt the Brash in quite some time …." - When will the peace talks take place?
- "Oh, not for a while yet. We're still preparing the secure site on High Isle. But if the Ascendant Order strikes again, I know who to contact. You really are quite remarkable, my dear. And this is for you, compliments of the Society of the Steadfast."
You can ask Lady Arabelle some questions afterwards:
- "Such an interesting adventure, don't you think? I must write down the pertinent details. Wouldn't want to forget a moment! And don't fret. I'll make sure to send for you when the situation on High Isle escalates. You're too good not to call on again."
- High Isle? Where's that?
- "Never heard of High Isle? I'm not surprised. It's sort of a get-away spot for nobles and royalty. It's the largest island in the Systres Archipelago, in the Abecean Sea.
Technically it's a Breton territory, but most treat it as neutral ground." - It's a resort?
- "Yes, my dear. It's really quite beautiful. I have a manor there. For those brief periods when I'm not working on one thing or another.
The Society of the Steadfast selected it specifically for the peace talks. I can't wait for them to get underway." - So, about Investigator Vale ….
- "Oh, not that again. You don't realize how tedious that question has become. And all because of a nosy chronicler and her unfounded accusations.
Listen, my dear. You and I will get along much better if you never ask me about Investigator Vale again."

Edit
As you approach her in Gonfalon Bay you will overhear a conversation taking place:
- Dockmaster Arnauld: "My dockhands are watching for your cargo, Lady Arabelle. They know it's precious."
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "There was a storm off the coast. Perhaps it delayed the ships."
- Lady Arabelle: "Forgive me if I do the job you hired me for, Lord Bacaro. You there, might we speak?"
If you have completed the High Isle prologue, or just accepted it:
- "Forgive me if I do the job you hired me for, Lord Bacaro. Ah, a familiar face. I could use your help, adventurer."

|
|
|
- What was that about a proposition?/What sort of proposition?
- "Oh, nothing tawdry, my dear. We'll be too busy for romantic shenanigans before long, I expect. Some precious cargo was supposed to sail in on the morning tide, but it never arrived. I need someone not known around the island to be my eyes and ears."
- Your eyes and ears?
- "While tales of my exploits credit me with all sorts of talents, I can't be in more than one place at a time. I could use a fresh face to mingle with the locals. Determine if anyone knows anything about my three missing ships … and their cargo."
- All right. I'm willing to help.
- "Lord Bacaro's conference can't proceed without that cargo. Here's what I need you to do. Check the inn, the lighthouse, and the Loch Abhain Shallows. See if anyone knows or saw anything. Then meet me outside the north gate to compare notes."
She can be further spoken to:
- Tell me more about the locations you want me to investigate.
- "Certainly. Since you're new to High Isle, I understand you may not be as familiar with the local area as I am. What do you wish to know?"
- Tell me about the lighthouse.
- "Gonfalon Head Lighthouse, blessed by Kynareth herself, stands atop the hill just west of town. It offers an excellent vantage from which to watch the nearby waters.
Perhaps the lighthouse keeper saw something that will help." - Like the storm Lord Bacaro mentioned?
- "Possibly. When ships fail to make port, it's only natural to wonder if they were damaged or blown off course by a storm. The lighthouse keeper has a perfect view of the approach to Gonfalon Bay. If my ships were out there, she might have seen them."
- "Gonfalon Head Lighthouse, blessed by Kynareth herself, stands atop the hill just west of town. It offers an excellent vantage from which to watch the nearby waters.
- Tell me about the Loch Abhain Shallows.
- "The currents of Loch Abhain are strong. Flotsam from the open sea often washes up along the shore of the waterway. Some of High Isle's poorer folk comb the beach, looking for salvage.
Let's hope they haven't found any today."
- "The currents of Loch Abhain are strong. Flotsam from the open sea often washes up along the shore of the waterway. Some of High Isle's poorer folk comb the beach, looking for salvage.
- Tell me about the inn.
- "The Ancient Anchor Inn sits just up the street near the city gate. It's one of the more popular places on the island. In my experience, inns are an excellent location to pick up rumors."
- Where should I start?
- "Wherever you think is best, my dear. But do get started soon. My intuition tells me that some sort of mischief is afoot, and my intuition is rarely wrong."
- You mentioned a conference. Tell me about that.
- "The gentleman beside me, Lord Bacaro Volorus, leads the Society of the Steadfast. They're a philanthropic fellowship that provides aid to people who have suffered in the Three Banners War.
The Society is sponsoring a conference here on the island."

- What happens if your missing ships don't turn up?
- "That's not an option I care to contemplate. Not while there's still a chance to find them.
Forgive me for being evasive, but it's a rather sensitive topic to discuss in public. We've already faced adversity and the conference has yet to begin."
-
-
- You mentioned tales of your exploits before. Who are you again?
- "Me? I'm no one special, my dear. I've been an adventurer, a Lion Guard officer, a spy, a diplomat. People claim the Investigator Vale stories are about me. Or that I wrote them. Ridiculous.
I'm retired now, but I still dabble from time to time."- Did you write the Investigator Vale books?
- "Oh, pish-posh. Do these look like the ink-stained fingers of a writer of overly imaginative and lurid tales to you?
I am rather fond of the bawdy investigator and her adventures, though. They remind me of my younger days."- What's your role here?
- "I'm overseeing security for the conference. A few months ago, Lord Bacaro approached me. Explained his grand plans and lured me out of retirement, you might say."
- Why did Lord Bacaro select you for this task?
- "My charming personality? When I was an agent for High King Emeric, I traveled widely and met many dignitaries—including Lord Bacaro.
He asked me to make sure everything went smoothly for his conference. So far, it's been anything but."
- "Me? I'm no one special, my dear. I've been an adventurer, a Lion Guard officer, a spy, a diplomat. People claim the Investigator Vale stories are about me. Or that I wrote them. Ridiculous.
After investigating all three locations, you can meet with Lady Arabelle at her camp and report to her:
- "Good, you found my field office. I thought I'd keep an eye on the loch while awaiting your report.
My own investigations have turned up little about our missing ships. Tell me, did you uncover anything useful? Did the lighthouse keeper spot them?" - After rogue knights darkened the beacon, the keeper spotted three ships before the storm rolled in.
- "Darkened the beacon? The locals revere that light—who would dare offend Kynareth in such a way? Something is indeed wrong here.
At least our missing ships reached these waters, but this storm worries me. Tell me more about the rogue knights."
|
|
|
|
- Someone called the Ascendant Magus recruited salvagers to capture shipwreck survivors.
- "It seems the Ascendant Order knew the ships would be wrecked, and they helped make sure by extinguishing the lighthouse beacon. They knew my cargo was coming to High Isle!
This means the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild delegates are in danger, too." - Wait. What does your missing cargo have to do with the delegates?
- "Ah, you caught that, did you? My missing cargo is more delegates for the conference—perhaps the most important ones.
But I need you to check on the guild delegates right now. They went to visit a druid named Ryvana. Her hut lies to the west."
Before heading to Ryvana's home, you can ask Lady Arabelle some more questions:
|
|
|
|
- Who is this druid the guild representatives went to visit?
- "Her name is Ryvana. She's something of a local apothecary. She uses her skill with herbs and healing to help the folk of High Isle.
With the conference delayed, Valessea was curious about druidic magic so off she went. Quentyn decided to tag along."
- "Her name is Ryvana. She's something of a local apothecary. She uses her skill with herbs and healing to help the folk of High Isle.
At Ryvana's home, you will find out from the druid that the guild delegates went out to deal with the rogue knights nearby. When you find Valessea, you will learn that Quentyn was taken by the Ascendant Order but that she can track his location from the medallion he is carrying. When you return to Lady Arabelle, you will find Valessea and her discussing the matter:
- Lady Arabelle: "That sounds like Abhain Chapel, but only one medallion is there? Hmm."
Talk with Lady Arabelle to see how she wants to handle the situation:
- "Valessea apprised me of the situation. I believe I know the place where she thinks they're holding Quentyn. It must be the crypts below Abhain Chapel, on the northern shore of the loch.
Will you accompany us on this rescue mission, my dear?" - I'll help you rescue Guild General Quentyn.
- "Smashing! This will be like that time I pulled General Gautier out of a Reach stronghold during the border raids of Five-Sixty-Six! Now that was an adventure!
Anyway, it's too bad Valessea couldn't scry the locations of the other missing delegates." - Mind if I ask you about the delegates that were aboard the missing ships?
- "I suppose you've earned the truth, and you certainly deserve my complete confidence.
The three ships carried High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar, son of Jorunn the Skald-King. I dare say I've misplaced the leaders of Tamriel."
|
|
|
|
After agreeing to assist with the rescue mission, you can ask some more questions:
- "We'll rendezvous at Abhain Chapel, on the north side of the loch. I've already sent an operative ahead to scout the area.
Be prepared to defend yourself. The Ascendant Order won't give up Guild General Quentyn without a fight." - What if this is a trap?
- "Whatever the situation, I won't abandon Quentyn to his fate. Oh, that's good. Let me write that down.
Besides, we have to risk it. Both to save Quentyn and to see if we can learn anything about the missing alliance leaders."- You think the alliance leaders might also be there?
- "We know their medallions aren't there, but they could have lost them at sea. Regardless, if the Ascendant Order uses the chapel as a hideout, we may learn something about their plans. Or as a clue to where to search for the alliance leaders, perhaps."
- Tell me more about High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar.
- "Not a student of politics, my dear? I understand completely.
They're the leaders of the alliances vying for the Ruby Throne. Well, Ayrenn and Emeric leads two of the alliances. Irnskar is the son of Jorunn the Skald-King, who leads the third."- What alliances?
- "You poor dear. You must pay more attention to current events.
Queen Ayrenn leads the Aldmeri Dominion. High King Emeric, the Daggerfall Covenant. And Prince Irnskar represents the Ebonheart Pact. The opponents in the aptly named Three Banners War."- What are they fighting about?
- "It's … complicated. The Ruby Throne sits vacant, and the Tamerielic Empire lacks an Emperor. None of the alliances can stomach the idea that one of the others might win the throne.
It's a wonder Bacaro and I got them to agree to these peace talks."'
As you arrive at the chapel, Lady Arabelle got Jakarn to unlock the crypts:
- Jakarn: "There, it's open. Got any more locks you need picked? How about you, Valessea?"
- Guild Magister Valessea: "I think not, thank you."
- Lady Arabelle: "Now's not the time, Jakarn. Let's see what awaits us down in the crypts."
- <Lady Arabelle and Valessea enter the crypts.>
While inside the chapel's crypts, Valessea will be trying to pinpoint Quentyn's location with the medallion while Jakarn will scout ahead:
- Guild Magister Valessea: "I can't pinpoint the exact location of Quentyn's medallion. He could be anywhere in here."
- Jakarn: "I'll scout ahead. Maybe someone should watch the door in case anyone follows us?"
- Guild Magister Valessea: "I'll keep watch. Be careful."
- Jakarn: "Aww. I knew you cared."
- Lady Arabelle: "Quentyn is our priority, but keep your eyes open. Who knows what the Ascendant Order left lying about?"
Speaking with Lady Arabelle at this point:
- "Let's take a look around—carefully. Guild General Quentyn is here somewhere. And we might be able to find out more about what the Ascendant Order is really after on High Isle."
After reading The Ascendant Proclamation:
- Lady Arabelle: "Ascendant Order propaganda? Don't be taken in. They are not as benevolent as they want you to think."
- Lady Arabelle: "No sign of Quentyn yet, though. We should keep going."
Speaking to her immediately:
- "Pay no attention to the Ascendant Order's lies. They work in the shadows to undermine the ruling bodies of Tamriel, and they don't care who gets hurt.
Keep searching. See if you can find where they're holding Quentyn."
After reading the Prisoner Manifest:
- Lady Arabelle: "The Ascendant Order has the captains of our missing ships? But where are the alliance leaders?"
- Lady Arabelle: "First things first. Clear the path to the south crypts, please. We must rescue the captains and hope that Quentyn is with them."
Speaking to her again:
- "According to the document, the captains of our missing ships are being held here. But then where are the delegates?
We need to find the captains, as well as Quentyn. Let's make our way to the crypts south of here."
In the South Crypts, you'll find the missing captains but Lady Arabelle and Jakarn need you to hold off the Ascendant Order knights while they're trying to free the captives:
- Captain Kaleen: "Lady Arabelle!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Kaleen, Za'ji, Tsuzo! Thank the Divines you're all right! But where are the delegates?"
- Captain Tsuzo: "Apologies, m'lady. We lost our charges."
- Captain Za'ji: "Za'ji is not all right …."
- Jakarn: "Not to spoil the reunion, but we're about to get company."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Jakarn, free the captains. Friend, keep the Ascendant Order at bay! Buy us some time!"
After fighting of the the waves of Ascendant Order members:
- Jakarn: "Stupid thing won't—wait, got it!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Collect Valessea and get the captains to safety, Jakarn. We'll find Quentyn."
- Captain Kaleen: "The knights took Quentyn away not long ago. I think they're questioning him now."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Then we must hurry. Come, my friend."
Once you enter the Lower Crypts with Lady Arabelle, you can talk to her:
- "Jakarn and Valessea can get the captains safely away from here, but we still need to find Quentyn.
Captain Kaleen said he was being taken for questioning. We should keep looking."
Further into the lower crypts, Lady Arabelle will notice Quentyn with the Ascendant Magus and Lord and asks you to stop and listen:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Down there! It's Quentyn. Let's listen and try to figure out what's going on."
- The Ascendant Magus: "A new age of peace is upon us. An age of free peoples standing together, not kneeling to distant thrones."
- The Ascendant Lord: "This is not your war, general. What say you?"
- Guild General Quentyn: "The war took everything from me. I … I am with you. How can I help?"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The Order is trying to recruit Quentyn? We have to put a stop to this!"
If spoken to after this:
- "I don't know what to make of that. Quentyn is clever enough to feign an interest in joining them, but that didn't feel like an act. He lost his wife in the war, and he never got over that.
Still, we can't leave him here with those terrorists."
You'll venture into another crevice, where you see the Ascendant Magus giving orders to Quentyn to kill Lady Arabelle:
- Guild General Quentyn: "Each delegate carries a medallion like this one, Magus. It serves both an invitation and a key."
- The Ascendant Magus: "Keep it. We may need your access later. Right now I want you to kill the meddling investigator nipping at our heels."
- Guild General Quentyn: "Lady Arabelle? But she's…."
- The Ascendant Magus: "No longer working alone. She's found some capable help. Deal with them."
<The Ascendant Magus disappears and Quentyn walks away>
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Oh, Quentyn. I guess you've made your choice."
Eventually you will confront Quentyn who has already made up his mind to fight against you:
- The Ascendant Magus: "Here is your chance, Quentyn. Stop these fools and strike a blow for the people!"
<The Ascendant Magus disappears again>
- Guild General Quentyn: "I'm sorry, Lady Arabelle, but I've made my choice. For the Ascendant Order!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Do what you must. We can't allow the general to stop us."
Speaking to her before you start the fight with Quentyn:
- "I'm afraid we don't have a choice. Lower your guard against a fighter of Quentyn's skill, and he'll cut you in half.
Damn the Ascendant Magus for twisting the general's mind!"
After killing Quentyn:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I'm sorry it came to that, but well fought, my friend. Let's speak outside."
If spoken to inside:
- "The Ascendant Magus disappeared while Quentyn kept us busy, and the Ascendant Lord left before that. I doubt we'll catch either of them now.
Come, let's leave this place. There's nothing more for us here."
Once outside of the crypts, you can talk to Lady Arabelle about what happened:
- "I didn't expect Guild General Quentyn to turn on us, and I certainly didn't desire his death.
It seems sympathy for the Ascendant Order is more widespread than I knew. We must be cautious. Particularly with whom we choose to trust going forward." - You think some of the others may turn on us?
- "Do I expect it? No. But that doesn't mean we should let our guard down.
This venture wasn't a complete failure, though. We rescued the captains of our missing ships. We need to find out what happened at sea and what befell the alliance leaders." - Where did Jakarn and Valessea take the captains?
- "To Mandrake Manor, my home in Gonfalon Bay. I'll mark it on your map.
Jakarn, Valessea, and I have been using my townhouse as a base of operations. I'm confident that it is as safe from the Ascendant Order as any other location we might choose." - Why is it called Mandrake Manor?
- "Oh, the name comes from a book I'm rather fond of. I bought the manor to serve as my home in retirement, and I keep a few mementos of my career there.
Meet me there, my dear, and we'll see what our rescued captains have to say about all this." - I'll meet you in Gonfalon Bay.
If spoken to again:
- "To think the Ascendant Order accomplished all this. I thought the plans I put in place were so clever. How far does this Ascendant Lord and his Magus's reach extend, I wonder.
Let's speak further at Mandrake Manor. I'll see you there."
Outside of Mandrake Manor, she will greet you and urge you to go inside to speak to Captain Kaleen:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Ah, there you are. Go inside and talk to Captain Kaleen. Find out what happened at sea. I need a moment to collect my thoughts."
If spoken to:
- "Go on inside, my dear. Talk to Captain Kaleen and get her to tell you what happened to her ship and the ships of the other captains.
I need time to review what else we discovered. Then we can start putting the pieces of this puzzle together."
After speaking to the captains and when you go outside, she will call for you:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Over here, dear. We have much to do."
Speaking to her:
- "I adore this view. Isn't the Colossus a wondrous sight?
Still, gazing upon it does nothing to quell my anxiety. Somehow, the Ascendant Order learned not only about our secret peace talks, but that the alliance leaders were going to attend." - At least they don't have High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, or Prince Irnskar yet.
- "And neither do we. We're not even sure they're still alive, but we must hope.
Your help has been invaluable thus far, my dear, and you've earned every piece of gold in this pouch. We'll find the alliance leaders and unmask the Order. We have to."
People of ImportEdit
If you choose delay starting the quest, and when you approach her outside her home, she will call for your attention:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Over here, dear. We have much to do."
Speaking to her:
- "Just as the Colossus watches over Gonfalon Bay, I was supposed to keep the alliance leaders safe. I failed in that, but at least they aren't in the Ascendant Order's hands. Not yet, anyway.
What did Captain Kaleen and the others have to say, dear?" - The captains believe the Order's leaders are Breton nobles, and the delegates didn't wash ashore.
- "Breton nobles? Yes, we heard that as well when the Ascendant Lord and the Magus were speaking in the crypts. That's something to go on.
And if the alliance leaders didn't end up in the Shallows, we'll need to look elsewhere. What else, dear?" - Captain Kaleen saw the dockmaster accept gold from the Magus when they captured her.
- "Well, that's a lead we can investigate! I'd like to have a chat with Dockmaster Arnauld about that and a great many other things. I detest being lied to, and he did it with such conviction.
You're still on retainer, dear. Would you care to join me?" - I'll help you interrogate Dockmaster Arnauld.
- "The dockmaster's home overlooks the harbor to the west. Jakarn and I will meet you there.
First Quentyn, now this. I hardly know who to trust. Times like these, I take a moment to contemplate the Colossus in the harbor. It helps clear my thoughts." - Tell me about the Colossus in the harbor.
- "That's one of the wonders of the archipelago, dear. The locals are very proud of their statue, even if few of them know the real story behind who it represents.
I like it, as well. One of the reasons I bought the manor. Such a spectacular view." - Who does it represent?
- "The Colossus of Gonfalon Bay is Baron-Admiral Bendu Olo, though most on the mainland would know him as the Colovian King of Anvil. He formed the All Flags Navy around 2260 in the First Era to gain vengeance against the Sload for the Thrassian Plague."
- The All Flags Navy?
- "The largest allied naval force in Tamrielic history. Ships from every nation and province participated, and many of the vessels were built right here on High Isle. The fleet launched from here and rained destruction upon Thras for their treachery."
- And what does this have to do with finding the missing alliance leaders?
- "Nothing, dear, but you asked.
Lord Bacaro selected High Isle for the peace talks because of that history, though. The All Flags Navy recalls a time when disparate people united in common cause. He hopes to inspire the delegates to do the same."
As you enter the Dockmaster's house:
- Jakarn: "Place is a mess."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I imagine the Ascendant Order ruffians loitering outside had something to do with that. Let's look around."
If spoken to:
- "No sign of Dockmaster Arnauld, yet plenty of evidence that something is amiss.
Take a look around, please. See if you can find any clues as to where our absent dockmaster might have gotten to."
After reading the Letter to Dockmaster Arnauld:
- "The Ascendant Magus did bribe the dockmaster, just as Captain Kaleen said."
After examining the ransacked belongings:
- "A few drops of dried blood? Hmm. A scuffle, but not a murder."
After examining the prepared meal:
- "Hmm. Someone planning to depart doesn't set a meal on the table."
When spoken to:
- "Nothing packed, food left on the table, and signs of a recent scuffle. I think it's safe to say Dockmaster Arnauld found that his Ascendant Order friends weren't entirely satisfied with their arrangement.
They've obviously spirited him away." - Why would the Ascendant Order kidnap Dockmaster Arnauld when they'd already bribed him?
- "The dockmaster ignored the wishes of the Ascendant Magus. Captain Kaleen saw Arnauld collect another payment at the loch. I suspect he got greedy. And once he proved he wouldn't stay bribed, well, he became a liability."
- Where do we go from here?
- "The Ascendant Order's throwing around a lot of coin on High Isle. If we follow the gold, we'll find someone with wealth and local influence behind this. Another clue that a High Isle noble is involved.
Hmm. Perhaps they want to keep the war going?" - Why would anyone want to keep the war going?
- "Profit, of course. That's what it always comes down to.
Lord Bacaro should be able to tell us which nobles stand to lose if the war ends. Go to Steadfast Manor, northwest of the city. I'll have Jakarn look for the dockmaster and then meet you there." - Do you think anyone else is secretly working for the Ascendant Order?
- "Almost certainly. As I said, we must be careful about whom we trust.
It is a concern, but it can also work to our advantage. Gold only buys loyalty for so long. And I suspect our adversaries are not as organized as they appear." - Why do you say that?
- "We know their opening move didn't go as planned. They were interrogating the captains to try to find the missing alliance leaders. Now they've taken the dockmaster, who would have been more useful to them where he was.
They don't trust each other." - Do you think Dockmaster Arnauld knows where the alliance leaders are?
- "I doubt it. If Dockmaster Arnauld knew where the alliance leaders were, he would have happily sold that information to the Ascendant Magus in exchange for his freedom.
We know he didn't because the Order is still looking for them." - You'd think a group that claims to want to end the war would want the peace talks to proceed.
- "I suspect the Order wants power, not peace. When the throne is vacant, your prospects of becoming emperor suddenly seem a good deal more promising.
That sort of prize might tempt a noble with just the right mix of ambition, gold, and imagination." - And you think Lord Bacaro can point us at the most likely suspects?
- "Lord Bacaro worked diligently to bring the peace talks to High Isle. Not everyone thought that was a good idea. I'm curious as to who opposed him and why.
Better yet, he won't voice suspicions without good cause. We can rely on his discretion."
Speaking to her again:
- "I'll have Jakarn look for the dockmaster, although I don't expect he'll be easily found.
You and I should head to Steadfast Manor and check in with Lord Bacaro. He needs to know what we've learned so far. And let's hope he has a lead for us."
Outside Steadfast Manor, she will reassure Lord Bacaro that help will be on the way:
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "I want to help, Lady Arabelle. But I'm concerned for the safety of my retainers."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "My associate might be able to help in that regard, Lord Bacaro."
Before speaking to Bacaro:
- "Satisfying our curiosity will have to wait. Two of Lord Bacaro's couriers have run into trouble. If the Ascendant Order is involved, we need to do what we can to help them.
Speak to Lord Bacaro and offer your services. I'll add it to your pay."
After speaking to Bacaro:
- "Do be careful out there, my dear. If the Order can strike out at a benevolent association such as the Steadfast, then no one is safe from these villains.
Meanwhile, I'll discuss matters with Lord Bacaro. See if we can narrow our list of suspects."
Before speaking to Bacaro about the fate of his retainers:
- "You're back! And alone, I see.
I was afraid of something like this. You've better speak with Lord Bacaro and let him know what happened to his retainers. He's been anxiously awaiting your return."
After helping Bacaro:
- "It's a shame the Ascendant Order got to Lord Bacaro's retainers before you could. What could they have seen that warranted their deaths?
Perhaps we'll learn more at Castle Navire … although I'm certainly not in the mood for a party." - Lord Bacaro said several nobles will be in attendance.
- "And our missing guests of honor will no doubt be the main topic of discussion. This is a chance to listen as well as ask questions.
Make sure you speak to Elea Dufort, Damard Dufort, and Jonne Mornard. They'll be the most important nobles present." - Do you suspect them?
- "Until we know more, I suspect everybody. But if any of the nobles are funding the Ascendant Order, I think it likely that it's one of the grand families of High Isle.
That means House Dufort or House Mornard. Either way, we'll know more soon." - Who are Elea Dufort, Damard Dufort, and Jonne Mornard?
- "Elea is the duchess of House Dufort and nominal ruler of High Isle. Damard is her brother and a count. Jonne Mornard is the highest-ranking noble of House Mornard currently on High Isle. He's Count Leonard's cousin, representing house interests here."
Meeting her at Castle Navire, she will be conversing with Lord Bacaro:
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "Might as well enjoy ourselves while we're here. Do you still prefer a Russafeld red, my lady?"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "That would be delightful. Thank you, Bacaro.
Introduce yourself to the nobility, my friend. And remember, even the smallest detail could be the clue we seek."
Speaking to her while you're investigating the other nobles:
- "Here we are. Now go make your rounds, dear. Remember, I'm known in these circles, so chances are good they know you, too.
Definitely speak with Duchess Elea, Count Damard, and Viscount Jonne. And anyone else who happens to catch your interest."
After speaking to all the nobles and before speaking to Jakarn:
- "I see you're making the rounds. Good! We'll compare notes after all this is over. Speaking of which, Jakarn is here. I think he has something in mind."
Speaking to her while Jakarn is causing a scene:
- "Oh dear. That was Jakarn's plan?
Well, I must say that it's working. The guards aren't paying attention to anything else. You'd better put this distraction to good use while it lasts."
After the Ascendant Magus has finished speaking you will have to speak to her:
- "Oh, good, you're all right. It seems our adversaries decided to send a message to all those in attendance—submit or die. A classic.
Did you uncover anything useful before the Ascendant Magus made his entrance?" - Duchess Elea has been investigating the Ascendant Order. I have her notes.
- "I see. Hmm. Clearly Duchess Elea's investigation hasn't gotten very far. Perhaps we can make better use of the leads she's been developing.
But we have little time to waste. The Ascendant Magus demonstrated real power." - What do you mean?
- "Did you notice how the ground shook when he unleashed his storm? That's not a magic I've seen before. Somehow his storm magic is causing earthquakes.
At least he hasn't recovered the alliance leaders yet. We still have time." - How do you know they don't have the alliance leaders?
- "Because the Ascendant Magus made a show of wanting us to fear him. Why would he care if he had what he wanted and couldn't be stopped? No, the royals elude him. Somehow.
But his magic … I wonder …." - Wonder what?
- "Among the other problems plaguing High Isle, lava vents have begun to open in random locations. Between the ground shaking and the storms, could the Magus have stirred the volcano?
Let's return to my manor so we can study these items more closely."
Lady Arabelle suggests going back to her manor and urges Lord Bacaro stay with her group, but he refuses:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Lord Bacaro, it may not be safe to return Steadfast Manor."
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "Nonsense. I refuse to hide from these cretins. I'll double the guards, but they won't drive me from my home."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Very well. I'll check in with you later. Jakarn, let's go. And put on a shirt, my dear."
After speaking to Captain Tsuzo, you will speak with her inside the manor:
- "Was it too much to hope that one of High Isle's nobles would openly admit their guilt? Ah, well. At least we can rule out Duchess Elea. Her notes make it clear she was caught off-guard by the attack on the delegates' ships. And this map. Interesting."
- What about the map?
- "If this map really points to sites important to the Ascendant Order, then it's our best lead so far.
Here, my dear. Take this with my thanks. With your continued help, we'll find the royals and discover who's behind the Order before long. We must."
Deadly InvestigationsEdit
If you choose to delay starting the quest and you'll approach her, she will call for your attention:
- "We have a mystery to solve, my dear."
Speaking to her:
- "The map you acquired provides a number of leads that might help us find High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar.
As the line from the Investigator Vale book reads, there's always another mystery. Let's get to it, my dear." - Do you recognize any of the locations on the map?
- "One is clearly the Dufort Shipyards, where the house constructs new vessels. Another is near Stonelore Grove, home to a circle of friendly druids. The third appears to be a cave near Tor Draioch.
Hmm. A strange set of disparate locations indeed." - Where should we start?
- "I'll leave that to you. Investigate all three and report back here.
I'll send Jakarn to the docks, Captain Kaleen to the cave, and Valessea to the grove. Rendezvous with them at each location and see what you can uncover about our rogue knights." - I'll return after we've searched all three locations.
Inquiring more further information about the task:
- "We don't know what the Ascendant Order is doing out there. But hopefully something at one of those locations will lead us to our missing royals.
But do be careful. I'd hate to see such a capable agent hurt while assisting me." - Did you see what happened to the Colossus of Gonfalon?
- "I…did. I arrived just in time to see part of it collapse. As much as it saddens me to see the proud baron-admiral fall, we have more pressing problems to deal with.
I'll mourn the Colossus of Gonfalon Bay—after the alliance leaders are safe."
- "I…did. I arrived just in time to see part of it collapse. As much as it saddens me to see the proud baron-admiral fall, we have more pressing problems to deal with.
- Let's discuss what we know so far.
- "A review of the evidence. Excellent idea! Lord Bacaro is sponsoring peace talks here on High Isle, but the ships carrying High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar never arrived.
We suspect the Ascendant Order is somehow responsible."- Right. The captains said a storm wrecked their ships. We know the Ascendant Magus use storm magic.
- "An excellent deduction! They also noticed that the Ascendant Magus and Lord spoke with the accents of Breton nobility. We believe a High Isle noble is funding this band of rogue knights.
Then you recovered this map from Castle Navire."- I remember! It lists sites that Duchess Elea believes are somehow important to the Ascendant Order.
- "Precisely! Since we also know that the Ascendant Order is still looking for the missing royals, we'll use them to point us in the right direction.
Investigate the three sites on the map and learn everything you can, my dear. Leave no stone unturned!"
- "Precisely! Since we also know that the Ascendant Order is still looking for the missing royals, we'll use them to point us in the right direction.

- "A review of the evidence. Excellent idea! Lord Bacaro is sponsoring peace talks here on High Isle, but the ships carrying High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar never arrived.
Once you have investigated all three sites, you'll return back to Lady Arabelle to relay your findings:
- "There you are my dear. I was beginning to worry.
Tell me everything. What did you find at the sites marked on Elea's map?" - We learned the traitors placed lodestones on the ships to draw the storm to the vessels.
- "Traitors? This confirms our suspicions. But lodestones are powerful arcane focuses. What else did you discover, dear?"
- One of the sites was a druidic ritual circle. We found a lodestone there, too.
- "Lodestones on the ships and at the ritual site? That must be how the Ascendant Magus targeted the ships with his storm. Remarkable!
But was the storm meant to delay the ships or give the Order the opportunity to capture the alliance leaders?" - A letter indicated the storm was meant to kill, but Valessea thinks they lost control of the ritual.
- "So the Ascendant Magus isn't infallible. That's good to know. And the evidence we've uncovered up to this point tells us the Order believes the Alliance leaders are still alive. They're actively hunting for them.
We must find them first!" - We located the dockmaster. He told us the Order has moved their search from the Shallows to Amenos.
- "Amenos! I suppose it's possible the leaders washed onto that gods-forsaken island.
While I determine our best approach to that place, I need you to go to Shipwreck Shoals and aid Captain Tsuzo. I received an urgent message right before you arrived." - I'll head there now and help the captain.
Asking further questions about what's happening:
- "The shoals are a graveyard, the final rest for vessels that met an unfortunate end in the straits between High Isle and Amenos.
Go and help Captain Tsuzo, dear. He made it sound quite urgent." - What's Captain Tsuzo doing at Shipwreck Shoals?
- "I sent Tsuzo and Za'ji to search along the northern shores for signs of their wrecked ships or the alliance leaders. Tsuzo's message was short but direct: He found something and needed help.
You're the first to return, so you get the job." - How do I get to Shipwreck Shoals?
- "You'll need to take a small boat from the north shore of the island. There's usually one on the beach west of the Dufort Shipyards."
Before you head out:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Shipwreck Shoals is on the northern coast, just west of the Dufort Shipyards."
After meeting up Captain Tsuzo, you'll return back to Mandrake Manor to tell Lady Arabelle about what happened to Prince Irnskar:
- "Another one of my favorite associates, back safe and sound. And were you successful? Did Captain Tsuzo find anything important at the Shoals?"
- We found the wreckage of Tsuzo's ship and a survivor. She said Prince Irnskar floated toward Amenos.
- "Well, that corroborates what the dockmaster told you. If Prince Irnskar is still alive and made it to Amenos, perhaps the other alliance leaders did as well.
Of course, that doesn't mean they're safe." - What do you mean?
- "Only a small part of the island is hospitable, and Amenos Station is barely that. The rest of the island is an untamed jungle full of deadly plants, wild creatures, and gangs of prisoners. Not exactly a stroll in the park."
- There's no law and order on Amenos?
- "House Mornard controls Amenos, but they restrict their oversight to Amenos Station and the prison stockade. They leave the jungle to the prisoners.
Either the royals washed ashore in the jungle, or the Mornards are keeping their arrival secret." - So now we go to Amenos?
- "Soon, my dear. First, prepare yourself while I finish making the needed arrangements. We'll head to Amenos in due time. For now, remember all we have learned thanks to your efforts.
Take this as payment. You more than earned every gold piece."
If you exit out of the conversation before turning in the quest, she will alternatively say:
- "We have two reports that indicate our missing royals may have washed ashore on Amenos—the dockmaster, who told you the Order has moved their search from the Shallows to there, and Tsuzo's crew member, who saw Prince Irnskar swept in that direction."
- So now we go to Amenos? (Leads to quest completion dialogue)
Escape from AmenosEdit
If choose to exit out of the conversation before starting the quest, she will call you out for your next mission:
- "The time has come to find the missing alliance leaders."
If you start the quest through Jakarn, she will greet you with:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Welcome back, my dear. We have a lot to discuss and time is of the essence."
She will ask of you to prepare for the mission to Amenos to find the missing royal delgates:
- "I hoped that by investigating the Ascendant Order, we'd uncover a clue to as to how to find the missing alliance leaders. Now we have it on good authority that they may beon Amenos.
From the cookpot to the campire, as my Great Aunt Ales used to say." - The cookpot to the campfire?
- "It's just a saying, dear.
As you're still on retainer, I'd like you to spearhead our rescue efforts. Jakarn will go with you to the island, then you'll split up to search for the royals. It's risky, but there's a lot of ground to cover." - How will we get to the island?
- "Aboard a prison ship. They sail for Amenos regularly from the Dufort Docks. We'll be contracting the services of Captain Basrush. She's…a dear friend.
Jakarn and I will meet you there after I finish briefing Captain Kaleen and the others." - All right, I'll meet you at the Dufort Docks.
Asking more about getting off the island:
- "While you head out to the Dufort Docks, I'll discuss our plan with the alliance captains. We'll need them for this to succeed.
Captain Basrush will get you to the island safely. I know for a fact she can't refuse a purse full of gold." - How do Jakarn and I get off the island once we find the alliance leaders?
- "Captains Kaleen, Tsuzo, and Za'ji have been procuring ships for just that purpose. The waters around Amenos are treacherous, but I have faith in their skills.
I wish I could send more agents to help you, but I'd prefer to keep a low profile." - A low profile? Why's that?
- "For the same reason you're travelling by prison ship. So as not to alarm House Mornard. We still don't know the extent of their involvement, or if they're making their own play against Emeric and the others.
Anything else, dear, or can we get moving?" - Tell me more about Captain Basrush and her ship?
- "Oh, Basrush is delightful! You'll get along with her smashingly! We met when she was a smuggler operating along the Sentinel coast. Now she runs under a charter from House Mornard, ferrying prisoners and supplies to Amenos Station."
- Has Amenos always been a prison?
- "Goodness, no. It served as a haven for pirates and smugglers once. Before the Empire decided it was the perfect place to dump its undesirables. Political prisoners, prisoners of war, rival nobles.
Emeric continues the practice to the current day."
- "Goodness, no. It served as a haven for pirates and smugglers once. Before the Empire decided it was the perfect place to dump its undesirables. Political prisoners, prisoners of war, rival nobles.

- What else should I know about Amenos?
- "The entire archipelago sits atop the bones of an ancient volcano. Sheer cliffs, jagged reefs, and dangerous currents make Amenos a perfect site for a prison.
The only safe landing on the isle is the dock at Amenos Station."- So Amenos Station is a town?
- "I suppose you can call it that. It serves the nearby prison stockade, though the worst offenders are banished to the jungle.
The Empire used to send prisoners to Amenos, and it still a dumping ground for people the authorities want to disappear."- The prisoners have free run of the jungle?
- "They do something to the prisoners. They call it processing. Once that occurs, they can only survive in the Amenos jungle. They go anywhere else, they die. At least, that's what they tell them.
So, yes, the jungle belongs to the prison gangs."- Tell me more about processing.
- "It's a closely guarded secret, I'm afraid. When prisoners are selected for banishment, they undergo some sort of magical or alchemical treatment. After that, they can only survive the jungle.
Is it true? Does it matter? The prisoners believe it."- And how does House Mornard fit into this?
- "House Mornard runs the prison stockade for the Daggerfall crown. They profit off the prisoner exchanges, the mines in the jungle, other prisoner labor.
And they maintain Amenos Station, the only true civilization on the entire island."

- Remind me what we're doing here again.
- "Sometimes I lose track of days myself, dear. Lord Bacaro hired me to provide security for the upcoming peace talks. I oversaw the arrangements to get the alliance leaders to High Isle safely.
Unfortunately, the Ascendant Order uncovered those plans."- Right. And the Ascendant Magus summoned a storm to sink their ships before they reached High Isle.
- "Precisely! These bandit knights tried to kill High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar, but the Magus lost control of his spell.
Thanks to you, we now believe the leaders are on the island of Amenos. We're going to rescue them, my dear."
- "Precisely! These bandit knights tried to kill High King Emeric, Queen Ayrenn, and Prince Irnskar, but the Magus lost control of his spell.

- "Sometimes I lose track of days myself, dear. Lord Bacaro hired me to provide security for the upcoming peace talks. I oversaw the arrangements to get the alliance leaders to High Isle safely.
After speaking to her, she will reassure Jakarn that he will enjoy this adventure.
- Jakarn: "Wait, what? The prison island? Shouldn't I get a say in this?"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Oh, I know you can't stand to be left out of the action. Think of the stories you can tell of your daring escape."
- Jakarn: "That's true. I guess I'm easy to read."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Like a book, dear."
You'll meet Lady Arabelle and Jakarn at the Dufort Docks, she will jump to the chase with Captain Basrush: When you reach the Dufort Docks, Captain Basrush is discussing business with Lady Arabelle and Jakarn:
- Captain Basrush: "Sorry, Lady Arabelle. I couldn't find any of the volumes on your list at my last port."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "No time for books today, my darling. My friend has a favor to ask, so play nicely."
Speaking to her before the captain:
- "Captain Basrush is a very close friend. Tell her I'd like her to take you to Amenos. As a prisoner. You're less likely to attract attention that way.
Tell her she'll receive a full purse of gold. And an evening in my company when this is all over."
After speaking to the captain:
- "See, what did I tell you, dear? An all-expenses-paid voyage and a brand new outfit—if a tad frayed and smelling of fish.
Do put it on and let's see how you look as a prisoner."
Once you put on the disguise:
- Captain Basrush: "The Shackled Guar is just down the pier. Move, you dirty prisoners."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "You get them there, you old sea dog, and I'll get them out."
- Captain Basrush: "I'll do my job, Arabelle. And remember, I like pomegranate wine with my salted mutton!"
You can speak to her again before heading off to Amenos:
- "Glad that's all settled. Head for the ship, my dear. Jakarn will split off once you get to Amenos. Meet him in the stockade and he'll fill you in on your next steps.
Good luck!"
When you successfully completed the rescue mission, you will meet Lady Arabelle at her manor's courtyard:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Well, here comes our hero now. Well done, my dear!"
- Prince Irnskar: "Excellent! Who wants a drink? The Prince of Windhelm is buying!"
- High King Emeric: "Hold fast there, lad. We're safe for now, but the battle's just begun."
Speaking to her to report your success:
- "Good work finding the alliance leaders and getting them off Amenos safely. I'm quite proud of you, my dear.
Lord Bacaro and I will spirit them to a more secure location shortly. Then we can turn our attention back to the Ascendant Order." - The Ascendant Order plans to hold a large gathering somewhere on High Isle.
- "So Prince Irnskar told me. We'll get to that. First, you need to rest. And I need to make sure our royal guests remain safe.
For now, take this. As long as I can count on you, there's more where that came from."
To Catch a MagusEdit
If you choose to not continue the previous conversation with her, but want to start the quest and approach her, she will say:
- "Over here, dear. We have more work to do."
Speaking to her to know what to do next against the Ascendant Order:
- "Thanks to you, the royals have finally reached High Isle. While the Ascendant Order has lost their prizes, they remain a threat.
Once the Ascendant Lord and his Magus learn the alliance leaders are here, they will stop at nothing to reach them." - How do we protect the alliance leaders until the peace talks?
- "Lord Bacaro and I have a secure place. They'll be safe enough there.
So far we've been on the defensive, reacting to events. The time has come to take the fight to the Ascendant Order. And my plan start with this meeting you heard about on Amenos." - Right. The Ascendant Lord told the Magus to assemble the Order on High Isle.
- "And I think I know how to determine where this assemblage will take place. While you were away, I received reports of Ascendant Order activity at Mistmouth Cave.
I propose we investigate. And, if luck is with us, catch ourselves a Lord and a Magus." - I'll help you investigate Mistmouth Cave.
Asking further questions:
- "Mistmouth Cave lies on the northern coast of High Isle. It's a favorite of outlaws and pirates. I'll meet you there. I need to go over some details with Jakarn one more time.
Things tend to go in one ear and out the other with that one, you know." - The alliance leaders aren't safe here at Mandrake Manor?
- "Not as safe as they could be. Lord Bacaro, Valessea, and I arranged for the Mages Guild to protect the conference site on All Flags Islet with powerful defensive spells.
I'll rest easier with the delegates safely behind those wards."- So the peace talks will go forward?
- "That's our hope, now that the alliance leaders are here and safe. They just need a little time to recover from their ordeal.
And we need to make sure the Ascendant Order no longer poses a threat."
- "That's our hope, now that the alliance leaders are here and safe. They just need a little time to recover from their ordeal.
- So the peace talks will go forward?
- "Not as safe as they could be. Lord Bacaro, Valessea, and I arranged for the Mages Guild to protect the conference site on All Flags Islet with powerful defensive spells.
- Are you sure you want to investigate the cave in person?
- "Worried about me? Oh, pish-posh! I was dealing with brigands, trolls, and threats to the realm since well before Ranser launched his ill-fated little war. There's nothing in this archipelago that I can't handle.
But thanks for your concern, dear."
- "Worried about me? Oh, pish-posh! I was dealing with brigands, trolls, and threats to the realm since well before Ranser launched his ill-fated little war. There's nothing in this archipelago that I can't handle.
- Remind me. What's happening on High Isle again?
- "I know the feeling. I couldn't keep it all straight without my notebooks.
The Ascendant Order wants to kill the leaders of the three alliances. They sent a storm to sink the ships carrying them here for the peace conference."- Right. The alliance leaders survived and I rescued them from Amenos.
- "That's correct, dear. And while you were rescuing Prince Irnskar, you overheard the Ascendant Lord tell the Magus to summon the Order to a meeting on High Isle. We're going to follow up on that and figure out where this meeting will take place."
- Right. The alliance leaders survived and I rescued them from Amenos.
- "I know the feeling. I couldn't keep it all straight without my notebooks.
After speaking to her, she will try to calm down all three alliance leaders from doing anything brash:
- Queen Ayrenn: "Why must we sit on our hands? The Dominion can crush the Ascendant Order with one fell blow!"
- High King Emeric: "I will not allow the Dominion to land warriors on Breton shores! The Daggerfall Covenant will handle this matter."
- Prince Irnskar: "Summon your fleets and I will leave. The Ebonheart Pact will not negotiate under threat of attack."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Patience, please! This is a delicate situation. Let us handle this. Now, go with Jakarn. He'll see you to a safer location."
When you rendezvous with Lady Arabelle outside the cave, Mount Firesong will shake in the background:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Did you feel how the ground shook?
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Look at Y'ffelon in the distance. I've never seen Mount Firesong so active."
Speaking to her:
- "I don't like the looks of that volcano! As if we didn't have enough trouble already.
Could this be related to what Valessea and you discovered at the druidic circle? Could the Ascendant Magus really affect the volcano to such an extent?" - We know the ground shook when he cast his spell in Castle Navire.
- "That's true. The ground rumbled when he summoned a storm at the castle. And the volcanic vents became active after he conjured the storm that wrecked the alliance ships.
There was no storm this time, though." - What can we do about the volcano?
- "Absolutely nothing, dear. But Mount Firesong hasn't erupted in centuries. The druids maintain its slumber. Let's hope they can keep it calm until we stop the Magus from drawing more power.
In the meantime, let's look inside Mistmouth Cave, shall we?" - What are we looking for?
- "Anything that points us to the Order's upcoming meeting. If the Ascendant Magus sent out a summons, someone here should know of it.
And keep watch for anything else of importance. You never know what clue will be the one to solve the mystery."
Asking for further background on Y'ffelon and Mount Firesong:
- Tell me more about Y'ffelon and Mount Firesong.
- "Mount Firesong is the volcano that rises above the island of Y'ffelon. You can see it in the distance. It always been restless, and its vents and hot springs stretch throughout the archipelago.
I didn't think too much about the initial rumbles." - You mentioned the druids have something to do with the volcano?
- "The Stonelore druids administer to the vents here on High Isle, but the Firesong Circle controls Y'ffelon. Outsiders aren't welcome there, and I've never seen one of their druids.
They say the Firesongs work to keep the volcano appeased."
After speaking to her, she wants to go inside the cave:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Head inside. I'm right behind you."
Speaking to her again:
- "Lead the way, dear. Neither of us is getting any younger."
While inside the cave, if you stumble upon a Vulk'esh:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Vulk'esh? Be careful. They're drawn to volcanic activity."
Eventually you'll notice dead Ascendant Order soldiers and a map of Castle Navire:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Dead Ascendant Order knights? They must have fallen to the lava creatures."
Speaking to her at this point:
- "Mistmouth Cave is known for its hot springs. The locals sometimes visit them…when there isn't some band of smugglers hiding out there. But judging by the steam, the springs must be boiling now.
What would the Ascendant Order want here?"
After examining the map:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "A map of Castle Navire? The Order attacked there already, but this map shows a river where it shouldn't be one."
Speaking to her about the finding:
- "I wondered how the Ascendant Order suddenly appeared inside Castle Navire at Duchess Elea's banquet. The river shown on the map, it must be underground. That could mean there's a passage hidden beneath the castle."
As you progress through the cave:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "This cave is crawling with Ascendant Order knights and vulk'esh. We should be careful."
You will uncover Burned Research Notes, once you examine them, she will say:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The Magus must have come here to continue his experiments. He plans to use this power in their next attack. We need to determine the target."
The deeper you go into the cave, tremors will occur:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Another tremor. Step carefully, dear."
You find a document called Banneret Jenine's Orders which will reveal details of a council of the Ascendant Order, and after reading it, Lady Arabelle ask to speak to you:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "A summons to the council of the Ascendant Order? This is what we've been looking for. Let's talk."
Speaking to her about what was learned:
- "So let's review what we found. First there was a map of Castle Navire that showed a river that doesn't exist. At least, it's not on the surface.
If it depicts an underground river, it could also indicate a hidden passage beneath the castle." - There's also a partially destroyed note about experimenting with volcanic energy.
- "Let me see that again.
Hmm. Yes, the Ascendant Magus thinks he can draw on the volcano to lend power to his spells. The next target they attack, he'll have more control over his ritual." - We also found a summons to come to the hall below the Sleeping Knights.
- "Below the Sleeping Knights? What could that mean? Statues? Or…bodies.
I suspect we're looking for catacombs again, like the ones we found beneath Abhain Chapel. But I saw no Sleeping Knights there." - What do you think happened to the knight who received this summons?
- "I assume that the poor, Banneret Jenine succumbed either the heat and fumes in these caves, or to the vulk'esh that congregate near the lava pools.
But their misfortune is our good luck! We have what we need to move forward." - You know what all this means?
- "Of course! It becomes quite clear when you put all the pieces together. The Duforts have interred their dead in the vaults beneath their castle for centuries. The Order must be meeting in the Navire Dungeons!
I'll collect Jakarn and meet you there."
Speaking to her again:
- "There's an entrance to the Navire Dungeons in the cemetery east of Castle Navire.
Let's hurry, my dear. If the Ascendant Order is planning something spectacular, I'd just as soon spoil their fun."
You will meet Lady Arabelle and Jakarn at the cemetery near Castle Navire, she will call out for your attention:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Psst, dear! Over here!"
- Jakarn: "Very subtle, Lady A."
Speaking to her:
- "Jakarn and I have been watching the entrance. There are defintely people going into the dungeons and not coming out. They must be throwing quite a party down there.
No sign of the Ascendant Magus, though. He may already be inside." - How do you want to do this, Lady Arabelle?
- "By using the summons we found in Mistmouth Cave, naturally. Take Jakarn with you and present the note if anyone tries to stop you. Once inside, confront the Ascendant Magus and disrupt whatever plan the Order has in motion.
Simple as that, dear." - How do you want us to handle the Ascendant Lord and Magus?
- "Oh, take them down with as much violence as possible. That goes without saying. But try not to take on the entire Order by yourselves. Good help is hard to find.
If you can expose the Lord or Magus's identities, that might be enough to defeat them." - One problem. Neither Jakarn nor I look like Ascendant Order knights.
- "Who does under the armor and hoods? I threw together some Ascendant Order outfits for the two of you. All you need to do is act like you belong there.
Here, try them on."
Before you put on the disguise:
- "Put on your disguise, dear. You can't go to the Ascendant Order meeting if you're not dressed to blend in."
Once you and Jakarn put on the disguises:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "They fit perfectly! Now get in there and find out what the Ascendant Magus is up to."
- Jakarn: "You couldn't find something a little more flattering?"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The idea is to blend in, Jakarn. You both look positvely menacing!"
Speaking to her before going into the meeting area:
- "I'll wait out here and keep watch. I'm too well known. If someone were to recognize me in there, things could get…unpleasant."
After you heard that Lady Arabelle will be in danger, you and Jakarn rush to find her:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Oh please, only eight of you? I expected more of a fight!"
- Jakarn: "That's Lady Arabelle! We're close!"
As you get closer, Lady Arabelle will dispatch her attackers at ease to Jakarn's relief:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "There you are, dears. Why, Jakarn! You look positvely panicked. What's wrong?"
- Jakarn: "The Magus said you were—that they would—uh, never mind. Friend, tell Lady Arabelle what we found out."
You tell Lady Arabelle the true identity of the Ascendant Magus and what he has in store for the alliance leaders:
- "I met the Ascendant Magus, dear. He was smug and annoying, and definitely a noble. But his helm disguised his voice.
I thought I was fine when he only left four knights to guard me, but then two more arrived. If you hadn't drawn them away…." - We met him, too. The Ascendant Magus is Count Damard Dufort. But he got away.
- "Damard Dufort! There was something familiar about that voice, but I couldn't place it. When he captured me, I no doubt became the perfect distraction to use against you. Sorry, about that, dear.
Still, thank you for coming to my rescue." - The Ascendant Order has gather warships for an attack on All Flags Islet.
- "Where I just sent the delegates? Damn it!
Very well. We're close to the Navire Docks. If Count Damard is launching a naval attack he'll want the Silver Swan, assuming she's seaworthy. If we hurry, we might catch him before he set sail." - How'd you know that? We found orders that mentioned he'd take the Silver Swan or the Storm Petrel.
- "I'm very observant, dear. Duchess Elea's new flagship is the largest vessel ever constructed by the Dufort Shipyards. The duchess planned to inspect her today, which gives us another reason to hurry. Who knows what Count Damard will do his sister?"
She will urgently ask everyone to go to Navire docks:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Let's meet at the Navire Docks, dears. They're just south of the castle."
Speaking to her at this point:
- "Count Damard—or should I say the Ascendant Magus—wouldn't have left me to rescue unless he was sure we couldn't do anything to stop him. I'd like to prove him wrong.
Let's get to the Navire Docks and get aboard the Silver Swan before it sails."
Your next step will be to go to the Navire Docks to attempt to catch the Magus before he sets sail on the Silver Swan. When you arrive, you will be stymied by Steward Hercian Stalo:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Steward, have you seen Count Damard or Duchess Elea?"
- Steward Hercian Stalo: "Count Damard? Why, no. Duchess Elea, however, is touring the Silver Swan. She does not wish to be disturbed. Good day."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "We have no time to be delayed by silly formalities. Dear, please reason with the steward!"
- <Lady Arabelle turns to Jakarn.>
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Jakarn, take a look around the docks. Just in case."
Speaking to Lady Arabelle before trying to convince the steward:
- "We can't allow this functionary to delay us, dear. Reason with the steward. Or browbeat him if you must.
We need to get aboard the Silver Swan!"
After sensing the steward is hiding something and has run off, Lady Arabelle insists on trying to warn Duchess Elea:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The steward is definitely hiding something. Look for a launch at the end of the pier to take us to the Swan."
Speaking to her while trying to find a launch:
- "If the Ascendant Magus hopes to take the Silver Swan for his flagship, I'm concerned for Duchess Elea's safety. We must find a way aboard that ship!"
You will reach a ship that will get to the Silver Swan:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "There's the Silver Swan, moored out in the bay. Hurry! If they set sail, we'll never catch her!"
Speaking to her before you board the launch:
- "A launch! Just what we need to get to the Silver Swan. We should hurry. If Count Damard is aboard, he could set sail at any moment!"
Once you reach the Silver Swan, she will notice a ladder for you to climb up:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "It looks like the portholes are open. Up the ladder, dear. I'm right behind you."
Before climbing up:
- "If the Ascendant Magus hopes to take the Silver Swan for his flagship, I'm concerned for Duchess Elea's safety. We must find a way to board that ship!"
After fighting Steward Hercian Stalo, you will hear the duchess cry out for help:
- Duchess Elea Dufort: "Someone, please help! They locked me in my cabin!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The duchess! Up the stairs, my dear!"
You will reach the cabin of the ship, and you will find Duchess Elea trying to pick a lock out. Lady Arabelle will ask you to speak to the duchess while she's looking around for clues of where Count Damard is at:
- Duchess Elea Dufort: "My own steward turned against me! He had the audacity to lock me in my own cabin!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Speak with the duchess, dear. I'll have a look around."
Speaking to her before questioning the duchess:
- "Count Damard isn't here. But as we feared, he was planning to remove Duchess Elea from the picture. Talk to her. She may have seen or heard something that will help us.
I'll be listening. And if she lies to you, I'll know."
After learning about a letter that the steward has, Lady Arabelle wants you to look for it:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Search the cabin, dear. Find that letter."
While you're finding the letter, you can speak to Lady Arabelle:
- "I listened carefully while you questioned Duchess Elea. I do not believe she said anything that was untrue.
Let's see if we can find the letter Count Damard gave to the steward. I'd like to have a look at that."
Once you find the letter:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "You found Damard's letter? What does it say?"
Telling her about what the contingency plans of the Ascendant Order:
- "I see you found the letter. Don't keep me in suspense, dear. Tell me what it says."
- Count Damard told the steward to take command of another ship and sail to All Flags Islet.
- "Let me see. A contingency plan, eh?
The Ascendant Order expected the alliance leaders to drown in the shipwreck. But it seems they were prepared to launch a direct attack on All Flags Islet if all else failed. And now it has come to that." - So what do we do now?
- "We must warn Lord Bacaro of the danger. If we can't trust House Dufort's knights, we'll need whatever troops House Volorus and the Society of the Steadfast can scrape up.
Lord Bacaro is supposed to meet me at Mandrake Manor. I'll see you there."
Speaking to her before warning Lord Bacaro:
- "The letters you found make it clear the Ascendant Order is preparing to launch a major naval attack on All Flags Islet. We must inform Lord Bacaro about this threat.
I'll collect Jakarn and meet you back at Mandrake Manor."
You will meet Lady Arabelle back at Mandrake Manor after uncovering the Ascendant Order's plan to attack All Flags Islet. She will be asking Lord Bacaro to provide reinforcements yet he's concerned about the defenses mustered against the threat:
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "The Steadfast don't have many warriors. We're a humanitarian group. It may take some time, but I'll rally what I can."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Then I'll find you the time you need. While you gather the forces, I'll do what I can to delay the attack."
- Lord Bacaro Volorus: "The Ascendant Order will expect us to reinforce All Flags Islet."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I'll think of something. I always do."
Speaking to her to complete the quest:
- "Count Damard, or should I call him the Magus? He thinks I'm dead beneath Castle Navire, that Duchess Elea is locked aboard the Silver Swan, and that his victory is assured. But thanks to you, he's wrong about everything. We're not finished yet, dear."
- Do you really think we can stop the Ascendant Order?
- "Let's just say I have faith. Look what we accomplished. We know who wears the helm of the Ascendant Magus, and we learned the Order is moving against All Flags. We have a chance to stop Count Damard yet!
Take this, dear. You more than earned it."
The Ascendant StormEdit
If you exit out of the conversation and approach her to start the quest, she will say:
- "This isn't over yet, my friend."
Continuing off to the defense of All Flags Islet:
- "We determined that Count Damard is the Ascendant Magus. And we discovered his plan to attack All Flags Islet.
As you can see, I need your help, my fried. The alliance leaders are in grave danger." - How can we protect the leaders from the Ascendant Order fleet?
- "I believe we can hold All Flags Castle with a few warriors, but if we need to fight our way past the Ascendant Order forces, we'll never reach the alliance leaders in time.
We require a ship the Ascendant Magus won't suspect." - Where do we get a ship like that?
- "Remember Damard's letter to the steward? The Ascendant Order ship, Nereid's Song. It's waiting for the steward in a hidden cove. We just need to commandeer it and sail to All Flags like the rest of the ships in their fleet.
Can I count on your help?" - Sure, I'll help you steal a ship and sail to All Flags Islet.
- "First we must find the cove where the Nereid's Song is hidden. I have no idea what cove Damard's letter referred to, but Captain Kaleen might.
She and the other captains are down by the harbor. We'll need them all to crew the ship, I suspect."
Asking for further questions on the mission:
- Can't we just take the Silver Swan or one of the other ships at the Navire Docks?
- "Count Damard expects Steward Hercian to bring Nereid's Song to All Flags Islet. That makes her the perfect vessel to slip past whatever Ascendant Order forces are in the loch.
Any other ship that encounters their fleet is likely to be attacked."- Where did the Ascendant Order get warships?
- "We knew the Order had resources. Count Damard's rich and his family owns a shipyard. I imagine he quietly ordered some extra construction or even commandeered vessels from his own shipyards.
I suspect he's been planning this for quite some time."
- "We knew the Order had resources. Count Damard's rich and his family owns a shipyard. I imagine he quietly ordered some extra construction or even commandeered vessels from his own shipyards.

- Tell me about All Flags Islet?
- "Today the small island is mostly abandoned, but long ago the All Flags Navy set sail against the Sload from that location. The ruins of an ancient memorial and a great castle are still in place there.
It seemed the perfect site for our peace talks."- You said it could be defended against an attack?
- "Properly garrisoned, All Flags Castle could hold off any fleet. But we don't have the forces at present to defend the ramparts.
Magical wards protect Memorial Hall, however. I hope we'll find our delegates safely behind those wards when we arrive."

- Remind me what we're doing here.
- "After we rescued Emeric, Ayrenn and Irnskar from Amenos, Jakarn took them to the conference site on All Flags Islet. It seemed like the safest place. After all, Valessea and the Mages Guild personally set its wards, and the location was a secret."
- How did they learn the location of the secret peace talks?
- "I wish I knew. Duchess Elea was aware of the site, of course, but not of our plan to move the leaders there so soon. Now that we know the Ascendant Magus is actually Count Damard, it's possible he overheard or saw something in his sister's court."
- And we learned the Ascendant Order has a fleet of ships heading to attack All Flags Islet, right?
- "Correct. Which brings us to our present situation. We need to steal an Order ship and use it to sail past their fleet to All Flags Castle. We can't aid the alliance leaders if we never make it to the islet. Go talk to Kaleen and let's find this cove."
- And we learned the Ascendant Order has a fleet of ships heading to attack All Flags Islet, right?

Once you reach Jheury's Cove after speaking to Captain Kaleen, the captains, Caska, Lady Arabelle and Jakarn will be waiting for you on the cliff above the dock where the Nereid's Song sits. Lady Arabelle will notice you:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Oh, hello, dear. Captain Kaleen was about to tell us her plan. Why don't you ask her how she wants to proceed."
- Captain Kaleen: "The ship looks seaworthy. We just need to get past those Ascendant Order knights."
- Jakarn: "Always with the plans. I usually just wing it."
Speaking to her before Captain Kaleen:
- "I've picked up many skills during my travels, but sailing isn't among them. Fortunately, we have several experienced captains on hand. I'm happy to defer to Captain Kaleen in this matter.
Talk to her and see how she wants to proceed."
Before you head on down to cut the mooring lines:
- "Cut the mooring lines? I should have thought of that.
Well, go ahead, dear. We don't have all day."
When the mooring lines are cut, you can board the ship:
- Captain Kaleen: "Aye! Give the word, friend, and we'll set sail!"
- Captain Kaleen: "Nereid's Song is ours, Lady Arabelle!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Excellent! Set course for All Flags Islet. There's no time to waste!"
Speaking to her before you set sail:
- "We don't know what we're dealing with until we reach All Flags Islet, but I trust Captain Kaleen to guide us past the Ascendant Order's forces. Let her know we're ready to get underway."
Once you land on All Flags Islet, the castle is being besieged by Ascendant Order forces. Lady Arabelle will call you out to lead the charge:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The attack's already begun—we'll have to fight our way into the castle. Lead the way, dear."
Speaking to her before you move on:
- "I hate to do it, but we must leave the skirmish outside the walls to our valiant captains. You and I need to see how matters stand inside All Flags Castle.
Remember, finding the alliance leaders is your priority."
Once you push in closer to the door:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Inside, dear! Jakarn, too. Our captains can hold the dock."
Valessea and other remaining defenders will be guarding the entrance of All Flags Castle while is being besieged by Ascendant Order forces. She almost mistaken you, Lady Arabelle and Jakarn as Ascendant invaders before being reassured by Lady Arabelle:
- Guild Magister Valessea: "To the door! The Ascendant Order is breaking in!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "It's just us, Valessea. Stand down!
- Guild Magister Valessea: "Lady Arabelle! The Order is attacking the castle!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Yes, dear, we saw. But where are the alliance leaders? Friend, let's talk."
She will ask you to find the alliance leaders and try to get them to safety to Memorial Hall:
- "I wanted to get the alliance leaders safely behind the wards in Memorial Hall. Or perhaps even spirit them away on the ship, but I doubt we'd succeed at that trick a second time.
You need to find the leaders and get them to Memorial Hall." - Tell me about Memorial Hall.
- "Another relic of the All Flags Navy and the site of the peace talks. The Mages Guild cast protective wards around the hall to ensure the safety of the delegates. They should hold, for a time.
Take this medallion. You can't enter the hall without it." - While I locate the alliance leaders, what will you be doing?
- "Defending the castle as best as we can. We need to hold back the Ascendant Order as long as possible until Lord Bacaro arrives with help.
If the Magus gets past us, you must protect the alliance leaders. We'll buy you all the time we can."
Lady Arabelle will organize the defense at the door:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "We need to protect the alliance leaders. Where are they?"
- Guild Magister Valessea: "Scattered, I'm afraid. Queen Ayrenn was with us, but there was a great rumble and screams from below. She ran to help."
<Lady Arabelle is leading an injured Alvaren Beauchamp to the side.>
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Go, my dear. Make sure Queen Ayrenn gets to Memorial Hall."
<Jakarn and Valessea are tending the wounded.>
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Jakarn, help me sort things out here. We must hold the castle until help arrives!"
Speaking to her again:
- "Find the alliance leaders and get them to the safety of Memorial Hall. We'll take care of things here and buy you some time."
Speaking to her again after you rendezvous with Queen Ayrenn:
- "We can't let the Ascendant Order win. Somehow, we must find a way to stop them."
After you defeated the Ascendant Magus, the Ascendant Order attackers will flee. You can meet with everyone outside, Lady Arabelle will welcome you back alongside the alliance leaders:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "There you are, dear. And with the alliance leaders, too! I assume you had something to do with the Ascendant Order's retreat?"
Speaking to her to see what was achieved today in driving back the Ascendant Order and defeating the Ascendant Magus:
- "I admit, I feared all was lost as more of those rogue knights pressed onto shore. Then the castle's siege weapons unloaded on their ships, and the dark storm suddenly abated.
Tell me. What actually happened in Memorial Hall?" - The leaders and I defeated the Ascendant Magus. We used the siege weapons and stopped the storm.
- "I knew you were special the moment I saw you, my dear. The Ascendant Magus hoped to topple thrones, yet instead his threat brought the alliance leaders together. And you showed them peace is worth fighting for.
Take this, with my deepest thanks."
A Chance for PeaceEdit
If you exit out of the conversation before starting the quest, she will say:
- "Before we go our own separate ways, may we ask of a final favor of you?"
After the defeat of the Ascendant Magus, Lady Arabelle wants to ask one more favor of you—to inform Lord Bacaro of the victory:
- "Nothing about this peace conference has gone as planned, but the Ascendant Order might have given us something we didn't have before—a reason for the alliance leaders to cooperate.
Can I ask one more favor of you, dear?" - What do you need me to do?
- "Lord Bacaro needs to hear about our victory at All Flags. He can stop mustering a counter force, at least for now.
Thanks to you, Count Damard's plan to decapitate the alliances has failed. The leaders are safe and back to their usual bickering." - What about the Ascendant Lord? Isn't he still a threat?
- "I suspect Count Damard's defeat cost the Ascendant Order most of their strength. It will take time for them to recover—which gives us a chance to salvage the peace talks.
Bring the news to Lord Bacaro, then meet me back at Mandrake Manor." - I'll go speak with Lord Bacaro.
If you choose to start the quest through Jakarn, you will have to go to Mandrake Manor, and Lady Arabelle welcomes you back:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Oh, good. You're here. Have you recovered from your battle with the Ascendant Magus?"
She will alternatively say:
- "Welcome back, my dear. I take it Jakarn found you, then? Good.
As our handsome rogue no doubt informed you, I have one more favor to ask before I release you from my service." - What do you need me to do? (leads to the same quest dialogue)
After accepting the quest, you can ask further questions:
- "Lord Bacaro should be at Steadfast Manor. Do hurry before he strikes off with an army of hired knights to join a battle that's already over.
Besides, it's not often I get to send someone good news." - What happens to the delegates now?
- "While the conference site is repaired, I'll secure them in Gonfalon Bay. The captains and Caska can watch over the royals and Valessea, and we'll have time to send for a new Fighters Guild delegate.
I'm surprised this turned out as well as it did."- Didn't you think we were going to defeat the Ascendant Order at All Flags Islet?
- "That's a difficult question. I knew we had to try.
Actually, I'm a bit embarrassed. Lord Bacaro trusted me to protect the conference and I let him down. The Ascendant Order was one step ahead of me all along. I've never failed like this before."- Why do you think you failed?
- "I didn't notice how powerful the Ascendant Order had become. And I should have sniffed out Count Damard's treachery. The clues were there—wealth, grievances, arcane skill.
Thanks to you, we salvaged the situation. And I can learn from my mistakes."
- "I didn't notice how powerful the Ascendant Order had become. And I should have sniffed out Count Damard's treachery. The clues were there—wealth, grievances, arcane skill.
- Why do you think you failed?
- "That's a difficult question. I knew we had to try.
- Didn't you think we were going to defeat the Ascendant Order at All Flags Islet?
- "While the conference site is repaired, I'll secure them in Gonfalon Bay. The captains and Caska can watch over the royals and Valessea, and we'll have time to send for a new Fighters Guild delegate.
- What happened to the Ascendant Order ships?
- "Like Prince Irnskar, I had Captain Tsuzo commandeer a siege engine. That sent a few of their ships to the bottom. Then when the shaking stopped and the storm clouds parted, the remaining vessels fled.
After you defeated the Magus, I suppose."
- "Like Prince Irnskar, I had Captain Tsuzo commandeer a siege engine. That sent a few of their ships to the bottom. Then when the shaking stopped and the storm clouds parted, the remaining vessels fled.
- Did any of Lord Bacaro's reinforcements ever reach All Flags Islet?
- "No, but I'm not surprised. He and the Steadfast don't have a standing army. I imagine he's still at his manor, sending missives across High Isle in an attempt to recruit knights willing to aid us.
Go tell him he can stop. The threat is over for now."
- "No, but I'm not surprised. He and the Steadfast don't have a standing army. I imagine he's still at his manor, sending missives across High Isle in an attempt to recruit knights willing to aid us.
After relaying the news to Lord Bacaro, you return back to Mandrake Manor to let Lady Arabelle know he wants to throw a celebration at Gonfalon Palace:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Welcome, my dear. What news do you bring from Steadfast Manor?"
Telling her the news:
- "Were you able to meet with Lord Bacaro, dear? What did he say when you told him about our victory?"
- Lord Bacaro wants to hold a celebration at Gonfalon Palace. He wants you to make the arrangements.
- "An excellent idea! Lord Bacaro knows it's vital to bring the delegates back to the table. After recent events, their faith in diplomacy might well be suspect. But a party, that's something they can all agree on.
Can I impose on you again, dear?" - What do you need me to do?
- "Tell the delegates Lord Bacaro dearly hopes they can attend a gathering at Gonfalon Palace. If anyone hesitates, use your charms to convince them to join us.
Meanwhile, I'll throw something together. Meet me at Gonfalon Palace when you're done." - Where can I find the alliance leaders?
- "Royals! No concerns for their own safety!
They each went off in search of a diversion—High King Emeric to the temple, Queen Ayrenn to stroll the harbor, and Prince Irnskar to the inn. I asked the Systres Guard to keep an eye on them. Discretely."
Asking further questions:
- How will you get Gonfalon Palace ready for a celebration so quickly?
- "Leave that to me, dear. I'll send Jakarn to round up our three brave captains and put them to work. It will be all hands on deck, as it were, but I think we can manage.
You just make sure the alliance leaders attend the party."
- "Leave that to me, dear. I'll send Jakarn to round up our three brave captains and put them to work. It will be all hands on deck, as it were, but I think we can manage.
- Do you think any of the alliance leaders will refuse the invitation?
- "These royals are a stubborn lot, or hadn't you noticed? I can never predict what they will do from one moment to the next.
Remind them these peace talks are imperative. If that doesn't work, tell them the other two accepted your invitation."- You want me to lie to the alliance leaders?
- "Sometimes a few untruths are required to grease the wheels of diplomacy. The royals will see right through the ruse, of course, but they'll play along. All they need is a reason to believe that this isn't a waste of their time."
- You want me to lie to the alliance leaders?
- "These royals are a stubborn lot, or hadn't you noticed? I can never predict what they will do from one moment to the next.
Speaking to Lady Arabelle before Jakarn when you're at the Gonfalon Palace:
- "Jakarn is looking for you, my dear. I think he wanted to have a word with you…most likely about me. Ah, well. I suppose he can have his little secrets."
After finishing chatting with Jakarn, as you approach the podium:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Not my finest work, but I think this venue will do."
Speaking to her get your recognition and reward:
- "I see you convinced our royal guests to come to our little gathering. Well done, dear!
Now for the tricky part—persuading them to stay for Lord Bacaro's talks. After so many perils, I suppose I couldn't blame them if they decided to leave." - The alliance leaders agreed to attend the party and I think they'll stay for the peace talks.
- "Excellent, dear! You saved Emeric and the others from the Ascendant Order and ended the threat of the Magus. Plus, you salvaged the talks and restored the hope for peace.
Take this. This is your day as much as anyone's! I have to address the crowd."
After you speak with Lady Arabelle to complete the quest, the ceremony will begin:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "On behalf of Lord Bacaro and the Society of the Steadfast, I ask our honored guests to enjoy the celebration!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "We're here to celebrate the coming together of three great leaders. And to show our appreciation for a hero who saved the delegates and kept our hopes for peace alive!"
- <Each of the leaders will stand up to say their piece.>
- Queen Ayrenn: "The Aldmeri Dominion thanks our hero and promises to participate when the talks resume."
- Prince Irnskar: "The Ebonheart Pact wholeheartedly agrees!"
- High King Emeric: "As does the Daggerfall Covenant. Three cheers for our hero, and for Lord Bacaro!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Well said, high king! And well said queen and prince! Let the celebration begin!"
- <The room cheers.>
Speaking to her after the quest:
- "I knew it from the moment I saw you, dear. This one has spirit. This one has the heart of a hero. Not too unlike what Emeric saw when he first looked at me.
You know I appreciate all you've done, my friend. You can call on me for help whenever you need." - What's next for you, Lady Arabelle?
- "No rest for the weary, dear. I need to help Lord Bacaro restore All Flags Castle for the peace talks. Improve security. Figure out what other traitors beside Count Damard are lurking about.
And, of course, I need to keep the delegates safe." - Do you need any more help?
- "Not right now. The captains and Caska have agreed to help guard the delegates, but the rest is all paperwork and supervision. When the peace talks get underway, I'll send for you. If you're still interested in helping, of course.
No pressure, dear." - I could be persuaded.
- "An excellent answer! I must write that down.
I expect that my notes will make an excellent basis for the next Investigator Vale novel. I must send them off to the author at once!" - About that, are you the author of the Investigator Vale books or not?
- "Let's just say the author is a very dear friend of mine. Why, I would even go so far to admit I know her as well as I know myself.
And that is quite positively all I intend to share on this topic. Now go mingle and accept the adoration of the crowd!"
FiresongEdit
The Hidden LordEdit
Lady Arabelle has asked Za'ji to have you see her at Mandrake Manor to discuss the peace talks further. When you arrive in her home's courtyard, she will greet you.
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Ah, good to see you, dear. Za'ji found you, I take it? Come, we have much to discuss."
Speaking to her:
- "I'm glad Za'ji found you. Sometimes he actually manages to surprise me.
You've already done so much, I hesitate to ask … but Lord Bacaro is reluctant to move forward with the peace talks while the Ascendant Order remains a threat." - You think the Ascendant Order still poses a threat to the peace talks?
- "The Ascendant Lord and his minions are still out there somewhere. Lord Bacaro is hesitant to proceed when an attack could occur at any moment, but I can't keep the alliance leaders here much longer. Their patience with the situation grows thin."
- Would the alliance leaders really abandon the peace talks now?
- "They are a proud and fickle lot, but they have one thing in common, dear. They respect you.
Go to the city palace and talk to them. Ask them to remain patient. Then speak to Lord Bacaro. See if you can convince him to let me get things started." - I'll talk to the alliance leaders and Lord Bacaro.
If you haven't started the quest yet and you approach her in Mandrake Manor's Courtyard:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Do you have a moment, dear? There's something I'd like to discuss."
You can also start the quest directly from her:
- "With the Ascendant Magus defeated and that nasty business on Y'ffelon dealt with, we can get back to the matter on hand. It's time to move forward with Lord Bacaro's peace talks.
I just wish I could be sure we are done with the Ascendant Order." (Same dialogue leading to start of quest)
You can ask about the alliance leaders:
- "Find the alliance leaders at Gonfalon Palace and convince them to wait just a little longer.
After that, look for Lord Bacaro at the city's western docks. He's been there for days, overseeing the Society of the Steadfast's relief efforts for Galen." - Why are the alliance leaders at Gonfalon Palace?
- "I had to put them somewhere, dear, and Mandrake Manor isn't large enough to keep them comfortable and adequately separated. There's more than enough room in the palace to make sure they don't engage in any unchaperoned squabbling."
- Can't you let them return to their own kingdoms until we deal with the Ascendant Order?
- "That would never work. It took untold hours of planning and preparation to get them here in the first place. And then we nearly lost them on multiple occasions.
No, this is our one chance for peace. We won't get another if they leave."
- "That would never work. It took untold hours of planning and preparation to get them here in the first place. And then we nearly lost them on multiple occasions.
- Tell me about these relief efforts.
- "According to the reports I received, you were there, my dear. You saw firsthand the destruction at Vastyr, the rumblings from Y'ffelon. The Society of the Steadfast is sending aid to the islands as quickly as their ships can make the journey."
- Remind me. Who's Lord Bacaro again?
- "Lord Bacaro Volorus, philanthropist and founder of the Society of the Steadfast. He and his organization have gone to great lengths to assist those impacted by the Three Banners War and other catastrophes, such as what's happening on Galen."
- And what does Lord Bacaro have to do with the peace talks?
- "He's sponsoring them, dear. And he's paying our salaries, so keep that in mind when you go to talk with him.
Get Lord Bacaro to agree to let me begin the peace talks and then we can get High King Emeric and the others to the table."
- "He's sponsoring them, dear. And he's paying our salaries, so keep that in mind when you go to talk with him.
You will learn from Za'ji that Lady Arabelle has fallen ill and is resting at Mandrake Manor. You can go upstairs to get check on her while Druid Ryvana is tending to her:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Welcome back, dear. And wipe that expression off your face. I'm not dead yet."
- Druid Ryvana: "Lady Arabelle, you need to rest."
Speaking to her at this point:
- "I want to hear all about your conversations with the alliance leaders and Lord Bacaro, dear. But I think we need to deal with the situation I find myself in first, if that's all right with you."
- What's wrong with you, Lady Arabelle?
- "Poison, I should think. It has all the usual signs.
Right after you left, I received a package. My favorite wine and a note of congratulations for saving the alliance leaders. I should have known better than to pour a glass … but here we are." - Any idea who sent you the wine?
- "The note was suspiciously vague about that. If I hadn't been tired and thinking about twelve dozen other things, that should have set off a warning bell. Instead ….
No matter. Tell me, is Lord Bacaro ready to start the peace talks?" - Not yet. He sent me to the Dufort Shipyards. The Ascendant Order is still using them.
- "How can that be? Duchess Elea assured me she had retaken control of her shipyards.
We'll deal with that later. Right now, I need you to figure out where that package came from. Determine who wants me out of the way. Nothing has been touched …." - I'll figure out who sent the poison, Lady Arabelle.
Attempting to uncover who would poison Lady Arabelle:
- "Everything is still exactly where I left it. Examine the note and bottle carefully. See if you can trace them back to their origin. And talk to Ryvana. She's been working to identify the poison and figure out an antidote.
My life is in your hands." - Do you often receive gifts from unidentified admirers?
- "More often than you might expect, actually. Comes with the territory. I am rather famous, dear.
Still, I should have been more careful. I can't afford to make a mistake like that again. People who send expensive gifts usually want to take credit." - Any idea who might have sent the poisoned wine to you?
- "Just guesses. I suspected the Ascendant Lord, but your news about the Dufort Shipyards concerns me. Did we misjudge Duchess Elea? Was she working with her brother? Is she part of the Ascendant Order?
We need evidence before we make an accusation."
After examining the note Congratulations on Another Success!:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Aside from the anonymous signature, it's the same as other notes I've received."
After examing the Dufort Singular Amber:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Any distinctive markings on the bottle, dear?"
After examining all three clues:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "You must be my eyes and ears on this, dear. Tell me what you discovered."
Sharing the clues with her:
- "I really hate being so … impotent. Ryvana tells me her tincture defers the worst effects of the poison, but I still feel weak … like my blood is on fire.
Enough of my problems. Tell me what you saw when you examined the note and the bottle." - The note doesn't reveal much, but the bottle bears the House Dufort seal. It's a Singular Amber.
- "Let me guess. The 571 vintage. I'd be hard pressed to refuse such an exquisite wine.
Ashcroft's Fine Goods and Imports. Only place on the island that might have any bottles available. Other than the duchess's private stores. Go talk to them, dear." - I'll go see what I can learn at Ashcroft's Fine Goods and Imports.
- "Ask for Philian Ashcroft, the proprietor. He knows me well and keeps a spot in Bayside Artisans here in town.
And while Ryvana works on an antidote, I'll send Za'ji to make sure the alliance leaders don't accept any mysterious gifts."
Before you head off to find Philian Ashcroft:
- "You don't know how much your help means to me, dear. Especially now, I need someone I can count on."
After learning the truth about Lord Bacaro, you head back to Mandrake Manor where Druid Ryvana will give Lady Arabelle the antidote. Druid Ryvana will urge you to tell Lady Arabelle what you uncovered about Lord Bacaro:
- Druid Ryvana: "Lady Arabelle, drink this. It will neutralize the poison."
- Druid Ryvana: "We discovered the source of the poison and…something more. Our friend will tell you."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I knew you wouldn't let me down. Tell me what you uncovered, dear."
Revealing Bacaro's secrets to Lady Arabelle:
- "Ugh, couldn't you have added a touch of cinnamon or honey to that Ryvana? No matter. I assume I will be hale and hearty again before long.
Now enough with the suspense. Tell me what you uncovered, my dear." - Lord Bacaro is the Ascendant Lord. He sent the poisoned wine to you and Duchess Elea.
- "The poison must have affected my hearing. Did you say Lord Bacaro is the Ascendant Lord?
How can that be? He sponsored the peace talks. He started the Society of the Steadfast, which has done nothing but good for the archipelago and the mainland." - I found his journal. He admitted his crimes and claims to be a direct descendant of the Druid King.
- "Looking at things from this perspective puts the delays and how the Ascendant Order has managed to stay one step ahead of us in a very different light.
But why go to all this trouble? What is Lord Bacaro actually planning?" - From what we found under Steadfast Manor, we think he wants to be the next Druid King.
- "Ah, I feel better already. Well done, dear Ryvana!
As for this business about the Druid King, I read the reports from Galen. Some druids truly believe that the Ivy Throne would be an improvement over the ruby one. But all this chaos and murder …." - What should we do, Lady Arabelle?
- "We've been hesitant for too long, unsure of where the next attack would come from. Now we know. It's coming from inside our circle, from someone we considered an ally. A friend.
Take this, my friend. We'll deal with Bacaro soon enough."
If you exit out of the conversation before turning in the quest, she will alternatively say:
- "Looking back, I should have suspected something. All the delays in getting the peace talks underway. How the enemy always seemed to know what we were up to. I suppose Lord Bacaro was always just a little too good to be true."
- So what now, Lady Arabelle? (Lead to quest completion dialogue)
The Ivy ThroneEdit
Continuing on from the previous quest:
- "I can't in good conscience start the peace talks while the Ascendant Lord—the man I knew as Lord Bacaro—is out there doing who knows what.
I'm afraid I need your help again, my friend. We must keep the Druid King's regalia out of Bacaro's hands." - Bacaro already has the gauntlet, but Count Stefan and Druid Laurel have the crown and staff.
- "Then we must assume that Count Stefan and Druid Laurel are in danger. If Lord Bacaro truly believes he's the heir to the Ivy Throne of the druids, he'll stop at nothing to get his way.
We must go to Galen and defend the remaining regalia." - What do you need me to do?
- "Druid Ryvana and I will get Za'ji to sail us to Galen. While we collect the staff from the Stonelore Circle, I want you to go to Count Stefan and protect the Druid King's crown.
We'll meet you at Castle Mornard as soon as we can." - I'll head to Vastyr and help Count Stefan.
If you delay starting the quest, and return to her, she will say:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I told everyone to stop fussing. I feel much better. Now let's talk."
Asking further questions:
- "I'll leave Captains Kaleen and Tsuzo to guard the alliance leaders while we go to Galen. First we protect the regalia. Then we stop Lord Bacaro—or the Ascendant Lord, or whatever he calls himself.
Now get to Vastyr and protect the crown!" - Why can't we just start the peace talks?
- "Because we don't know how far-reaching Bacaro's conspiracy is. The alliance leaders are safe inside the palace, with their loyal captains watching over them.
And we don't want them to hear of this betrayal yet. It would end the talks in a flash."
- "Because we don't know how far-reaching Bacaro's conspiracy is. The alliance leaders are safe inside the palace, with their loyal captains watching over them.
- What happens if Lord Bacaro gets all three items of the Druid King's regalia?
- "I don't really know. I'm not an expert on druidic law and prophecy. According to what you and Ryvana discovered, Bacaro believes he's a direct descendant of Kasorayn, the last Druid King. If he gains the regalia, he could make a claim for the title."
- And the druid circles would accept him as their king?
- "I never underestimate anything when it comes to religious fervor.
If nothing else, his connection to this legacy gives him a legitimate claim to power through his mother's bloodline. And many might see the Ivy Throne as preferable to the Ruby one."
- "I never underestimate anything when it comes to religious fervor.
- And the druid circles would accept him as their king?
- "I don't really know. I'm not an expert on druidic law and prophecy. According to what you and Ryvana discovered, Bacaro believes he's a direct descendant of Kasorayn, the last Druid King. If he gains the regalia, he could make a claim for the title."
- How are you feeling, Lady Arabelle? Did the antidote work?
- "Druid Ryvana's elixir has done wonders. I feel stronger already. Still, I was weak from the poison for a long time. I expect my recovery will be slow but persistent.
Don't worry, dear. I'll leave the dangerous work to you and Ryvana for now."
- "Druid Ryvana's elixir has done wonders. I feel stronger already. Still, I was weak from the poison for a long time. I expect my recovery will be slow but persistent.
Later on, Lady Arabelle will be chasing down Lord Bacaro after he stolen all of the druid regalia. You will reach Yffre's Path ruins where she is standing on a pressure plate but is not leaving because she does not want to trigger all the traps:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Careful, dears, and watch where you step."
Seeing her current predicament as she ask you to stop Lord Bacaro:
- "Now don't be alarmed, dear, but I happened to step where I shouldn't have. I suppose I owe Druid Ryvana an apology. The lingering effects of the poison do seem to have made me somewhat discombobulated."
- What did you step on, Lady Arabelle?
- "A pressure plate, I think. Some sort of trap put here who knows when and by who knows who.
That can wait, though. I followed Lord Bacaro in here. He met with a group of druids. Firesong, I think. He promised them vengeance against the Stonelore." - What about Frii? Were they with him?
- "The nature spirit? Yes, they were here. I couldn't quite tell if they were a prisoner or not. Bacaro did say he needed them to talk to Y'ffre's Path, whatever that means.
You need to go after them, my dear."
Showing concerns about her, but she urges you to continue the mission:
- What about you? We need to get you off of that pressure plate.
- "Oh, I agree. But that's not going to be done quickly. And as long as I remain in place, we're all perfectly safe.
You go on ahead. Druid Laurel can stay here and help me disarm this insidious contraption." - All right. I'll go after Lord Bacaro and Frii.
After speaking to Lady Arabelle, Laurel will try to disarm the pressure plate:
- Druid Laurel: "Don't move, Lady Arabelle. Let me see what I can do."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Not a muscle, dear lady. Go, my friend. Find Bacaro and Frii!"
Speaking to her again:
- "I appreciate the concern, dear, but now isn't the time. Lord Bacaro took Frii farther into the ruins. You must find them."
After defeating the summoned spirit that was called by Lord Bacaro, Lady Arabelle, Laurel and Caska will show up:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Come back here, Bacaro, you coward!"
- Druid Laurel: "Interesting. An old druidic summoning chamber. I want to examine these carvings."
Speaking to her after defeating the spirit:
- "Damn my clumsiness! If not for the fact that we were delayed by that trap, we could have been here to help you with that creature. Then maybe Lord Bacaro wouldn't have been able to slip away."
- Bacaro summoned that spirit to destroy the Stonelore druids and to deal with us.
- "Hmm. I assume this was at least in part a test of sorts. To see if he could actually call forth a spirit and command it. Plus, he wanted to prove to his followers that he is worthy of the Druid King's regalia."
- Where do you think Lord Bacaro went?
- "Somewhere he can further strengthen and consolidate his power, especially since he knows we're on to him.
Druid Laurel is examining the stone carvings. Perhaps they can tell us something. Take a look and talk to her, dear."
Speaking to her again before Laurel:
- "Examine the stone carvings and see what Druid Laurel can tell us about them."
After examining the final carving:
- Druid Laurel: "This carving indicates a possible future. See how the spirit awakens and the volcano erupts? It's a warning."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I always say, when someone gives you a warning, it's best to take heed."
Speaking to her at this point:
- "I never ignore a warning, especially one written in stone. Talk to Druid Laurel and see if she can tell us more about these carvings."
Once you find out Lord Bacaro intends on awakening a powerful spirit in Y'ffelon:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "If we're going to stop Bacaro, we're going to need help. Go to Castle Mornard and rally Count Stefan's knights. I'll make sure the rest of us are ready."
Speaking to her again:
- "A volcano spirit? I don't like the sound of that. Go rouse Count Stefan and we'll meet you at the Vastyr docks. With Ascendant knights and Firesong allies aiding Lord Bacaro, we'll need House Mornard's forces if we're going to storm Y'ffelon."
She will be at the Vastyr docks and will greet Count Stefan and his knights.
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "It's good to see you, dear! And is that Count Stefan? Glad House Mornard could join us, your excellency."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Captain Za'ji's ship is ready to sail. Next stop, Y'ffelon!"
You can speak to her before going to Y'ffelon:
- "Well, here we are, right in the middle of a story that might be too outrageous for even Investigator Vale to tackle. Luckily, we have you.
I still can't truly believe it. Baraco, the Ascendant Lord. Let's get aboard the skiff and go, dear."
Once you're at Y'ffelon, she wants to discuss with you about the plan:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Come, dear, we have plans to make."
Speaking to her:
- "Laurel, Ryvana, and I talked during the voyage. If Lord Bacaro truly means to awaken the spirit of the volcano, he's going to need to do it from Mount Firesong. And since, he knows we're coming, he'll throw everything he has in our way."
- So what do you propose, Lady Arabelle?
- "Sleight of hand, my dear. Count Stefan and Captain Siravaen landed farther up the beach. While our allies draw their attention at the main entrance, you and I will follow in their wake and find another way into the mountain."
- Do you know of another entrance we can use?
- "Laurel wasn't sure, but she thinks she remembers a cave to the right of the main entrance. Let's search around. If nothing else presents itself, we'll see where the cave leads."
While she's accompanying you:
- "Lead on, dear. Find us a way into that mountain that isn't quite as heavily guarded as the main entrance."
After passing by Count Stefan and his knights finishing up their battle with Ascendant Order forces:
- "Count Stefan and his knights cleared out most of Bacaro's forces. Let's keep moving!"
After passing by Captain Siravaen and her pirates successfully driving off Ascendant Order forces:
- "What strange allies this situation has foisted upon us. I never expected to work so closely with Sea Elves, but I can't find fault with Captain Siravaen's results.
Let's keep looking for a way into the mountain, dear."
Venturing into the jungle of Y'ffelon:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The spot Laurel mentioned should be just ahead."
Getting close to the cave:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The cave Laurel suggested, it must be behind those vines."
Before you go inside the cave:
- "A vine-covered cave can only mean one thing, dear. That's our way into the mountain!"
Once inside of Mount Firesong:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "This tunnel cuts deep into the mountain. Hopefully, it will lead us to Lord Bacaro."
Speaking to her inside Mount Firesong:
- "Chat later, dear. Right now, we need to find Lord Bacaro."
She will spot a Firesong Rockseer preaching to his fellow druids to support Bacaro:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Firesong druids. Proceed with caution, dear."
- Firesong Rockseer: "The Druid King calls forth the spirit of the volcano! Soon our enemies will perish in lava and flame!"
<Firesong druids roar in agreement and the volcano shakes before they run off.>
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Bacaro has started. We have to hurry!"
Moving further inside the mountain, lava will spew:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The volcano is becoming more active! The lava is rising!"
You will reach an inner chamber which Lady Arabelle spots Frii getting assailed by Firesong druids:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Look, over there! That's Druid Laurel's nature spirit. We have to help them!"
Speaking to her before rescuing Frii:
- "Those druids are doing something to Frii. We need to save them!"
The wind vortex prepared by Frii is ready and lava is spewing in:
- Frii: "Now, friends! Step into the wind vortex!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The lava is rising. We don't have much time!"
Speaking to her as the lava comes spewing:
- "Not now, dear. We need to use Frii's vortex to escape the rising lava!"
After using the wind vortex to escape the lava, Lady Arabelle will warn your allies of the volcano's eruption:
- Frii: "Bacaro wields the regalia. He commands the spirit to awaken and now the volcano awakens, too."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Lord Bacaro is truly insane. Stay with Frii, my friend. I need to warn the others."
<Lady Arabelle conjures a portal and leaves.>
- Frii: "The false king is farther up the mountain. I will help in any way I can."
After Frii stops the eruption of Mount Firesong, she teleports you to safety on the Perfect Pounce where all your allies are:
- Captain Za'ji: "Ah! Where did you come from, five-claw? You made Za'ji's heart skip a beat, yes?"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "The volcano erupted, but except for the top of the mountain, Y'ffelon is intact."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I very much want to hear what happened, dear."
Telling her what happened to Bacaro and Frii:
- "I got everyone back to the ship before the volcano fully erupted, but even so I'm surprised we're all still alive. Care to enlighten us about what happened inside Mount Firesong, dear?"
- I defeated Lord Bacaro, but Frii took the place of the mountain spirit. They contained the eruption.
- "Frii was able to contain all that power? They saved the archipelago, the alliance leaders…all of us.
But where's Frii now? Why didn't they return here with you? You said they took the place of the spirit. What does that mean?" - I'm not sure, but I don't think Frii is coming back. They're part of Mount Firesong now.
- "Oh, poor Frii. Their sacrifice saved us all. I'll remember them fondly for that.
And you're sure Lord Bacaro is defeated? Without their leader, his Ascendant Order should fade away. But what happened to the Druid King's regalia, dear?" - Frii used the regalia to bind themselves to the mountain. I think it was destroyed by the volcano.
- "It's just as well. As long as the druids remain divided, they aren't ready for a new king. And I'm not sure how Emeric and the others would react to another royal in their midst.
Well, talk to our friends, dear. Then we should return to Vastyr."
Before you depart for Vastyr:
- "Let's hope that with Bacaro dead, what remains of the Ascendant Order and the last of the Firesong rebels will no longer be a threat.
Now, go talk to our companions, my dear. They want to have a word with you before we return to Galen."
When you head to Castle Mornard's throneroom, she will call for your attention to give you your reward:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Over here, my dear. Count Stefan and I have something for you."
Speaking to her to receive your reward:
- "You're really making a habit out of saving the archipelago. And of aiding me. Thanks to you, we revealed Lord Bacaro as a traitor, saved the islands from an erupting volcano, and ended the threat of the false Druid King.
Well done, my dear!" - What about the Ascendant Order, Lady Arabelle?
- "Don't worry about them. Without a leader, they'll quickly fade away. Now we just need to proceed with the peace talks. We're back on track and the archipelago is safe, thanks to you.
Now, take this. Count Stefan and I wanted you to have it."
And Now, Perhaps, PeaceEdit
If you exit out of the conversation and haven't started the quest yet, she will say:
- "We finally have a moment to think, but there's still work to do."
Lady Arabelle has asked one more favor of you to do before the peace talks can begin:
- "We did well, dear, but the work isn't finished yet. I could use a hand if you're still so inclined."
- What do you need me to do, Lady Arabelle?
- "While I return to High Isle and make final preparations for the peace talks to commence, I'd like you to help Druid Laurel with one more thing.
When you're finished, meet me at Mandrake Manor." - What kind of help does Druid Laurel need?
- "I'll let her give you the details. I will say this, though. You've certainly made an impression on the Stonelore Druids, dear."
- I'll help Druid Laurel and then meet you at Mandrake Manor.
After accepting to help Druid Laurel, Lady Arabelle will be reaching out to the Society of the Steadfast:
- "Druid Laurel will tell you what she needs. Just don't dawdle. Finish things here then meet me on High Isle. We've had the alliance leaders waiting quite long enough, and I have to make some arrangements with the Society of the Steadfast."
- The Society of the Steadfast? You really still want to work with Lord Bacaro's organization?
- "Despite Lord Bacaro's betrayal, the society has done good work here in the Systres and back in Tamriel. I'd hate to lose that, but you're quite correct. I need to determine if the society is trustworthy."
- How will you do that?
- "I'll start by meeting with Captain Marguerite. The society attracted many good people who have done a lot of good work. I won't see that die with Bacaro.
I want the organization to continue, if at all possible."
After speaking to Druid Laurel:
- "When you and Druid Laurel are finished, meet me at Mandrake Manor. By that time, I should know what we need to do to get the peace talks under way."
When you return to Mandrake Manor after assisting Druid Laurel, you will find Captain Marguerite speaking with Lady Arabelle Davaux within:
- Captain Marguerite: "I assure you, Lady Arabelle. I'm more committed than ever to the Society of the Steadfast's mission of peace."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "I'm glad to hear you say that, captain. Ah, good, you're back."
Speaking to Lady Arabelle to learn that the Steadfast was innocent all along:
- "Captain Marguerite and I were just having the most illuminating discussion, dear. Other than some misdirection at the end, Lord Bacaro never allowed his clandestine activities within the Ascendant Order to spill over the Society of the Steadfast."
- Are you confident of that, Lady Arabelle?
- "Yes, dear, I am. Captain Marguerite's reputation is impeccable, and I've begun to study their ledgers. Nothing is amiss. I'll get someone I trust to perform a thorough investigation, but the society has done too much good to shut it down now."
- And are we ready to start the peace talks?
- "Just about. Preparations are underway at All Flags Islet, but I have a task for you. I'd like you to invite Count Stefan, Druid Laurel, and Druid Ryvana to the talks. They deserve to have a voice in the proceedings.
Captain Za'ji and Caska, too." - You want Za'ji and Caska to participate in the peace talks?
- "I think Za'ji and Caska should get to see the negotiations unfold. But to have them participate? Oh, goodness no, dear!
So, invite Stefan, Laurel and the rest. And remind Stefan I'm depending on House Mornard for added security."
Inquiring more about the peace talks:
- "I think Za'ji and Caska should get to see the negotiations unfold. But to have them participate? Oh, goodness no, dear!
So, invite Stefan, Laurel and the rest. And remind Stefan I'm depending on House Mornard for added security." - Where can I find all these people? / Where can I find the people you asked me to invite?
- "Count Stefan will be at Castle Mornard and Druid Laurel should be in the Vines District in Vastyr. Za'ji's likely at the docks here in Gonfalon Bay. And Druid Ryvana is at her workshop here on High Isle, just west of the city."
- Tell me more about the peace talks.
- "We've been trying to get the leaders of the three alliances to the table since this whole affair began. It's being sponsored by the Society of the Steadfast. There are no guarantees, but this is our best chance to end the Three Banners War."
- What happens when the leaders learn about Lord Bacaro's betrayal?
- "I won't keep that a secret from High King Emeric and the others. But I will urge them to see the talks though, despite their less-than-honorable beginnings.
This is a real chance for a lasting peace, and I damn well plan to make that happen."
- "I won't keep that a secret from High King Emeric and the others. But I will urge them to see the talks though, despite their less-than-honorable beginnings.

After inviting all the guests she requested to have, you will find her inside Memorial Hall Reception Hall on All Flags Islet. Speaking to her before you go inside the reception hall:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Over here, dear. Time to get this conference started."
Speaking to her that she got all three alliance leaders to attend:
- "I see everyone has arrived. Well done, dear. And I did my part, as well. The alliance leaders are already downstairs."
- Did you have any trouble getting the leaders here?
- "Oh, just the usual hemming and hawing. I just applied my natural charisma and threatened them with bodily harm.
The leaders do want a word with you, though, if you're willing to indulge them." - Of course. I'd be happy to talk to the alliance leaders.
Before you speak to the alliance leaders:
- "Go ahead and speak to the alliance leaders. They're waiting for you downstairs."
When everyone is called to enter inside the reception area, you can speak to her before Count Stefan:
- "Count Stefan has been waiting forever to get a word with you. We can talk later, dear. For now, indulge the count."
After speaking to Count Stefan, you will speak to Lady Arabelle to begin the talks:
- "Have I ever mentioned how much I detest public speaking? Goes against all my training as a spy and agent of the king. I'm supposed to hear the important bits of dialogue, not recite them. Ah, well. Before all that, I want to share something with you."
- You don't need to do that, Lady Arabelle.
- "Yes, I do. As we conclude this business with Lord Bacaro and the Ascendant Order, I want you to know how much your help has meant for me. Take this as payment for services above and beyond the call of duty.
Now, I have a speech to deliver, my dear."
After she gives you your reward, she will begin the opening speech to officiate the peace talks:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "We stand here today because of Lord Bacaro. What he brought together through the Society of the Steadfast, and what he tried to bring about as the Ascendant Lord."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Instead of dividing us, instead of defeating and conquering us, he showed us what's possible when we work side-by-side."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "And through the courage and sacrifice of many of the people gathered here, as well as the nature spirit Frii, we perservered and won the day! Now, to our royal guests I say, let's recognize our friend and then start the talks!"
- High King Emeric: "Our friend has performed above the call of duty! I name them Champion of the Covenant!"
- Queen Ayrenn: "Not so fast, Emeric. I name them Champion of the Dominion!"
- Prince Irnskar: "Then I name them Champion of the Pact!"
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Your majesties, please! All of that would never fit on the medal."
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Let's just agree on Champion of the Alliances, shall we?"
- High King Emeric: "Oh very well."
- Queen Ayrenn: "I can live with that."
- Prince Irnskar: "If you insist."
After her speech, she will miss having you around:
- "This is the part of the story I hate the most. When we must inevitably say goodbye. As much as I try to avoid it, I have a terrible habit of growing quite attached to the people I work with. All that said, I will miss you most emphatically, my dear."
- What's next for Lady Arabelle?
- "My contract with the Society of the Steadfast doesn't end until the peace talks conclude, and who knows how long the alliance leaders will yell at each other now that they've finally started. After that? Some travel, some writing. Some time to relax."
- Do you think these talks will end the Three Banners War?
- "Truthfully? I'm not sure. I hope Emeric and the others work out something out. There's been more than enough blood spilled over the Ruby Throne for my taste. Alas, things like this aren't up to me. I do think there's a chance, though, thanks to you."
- Will you look for another mystery to solve?
- "I rarely have to look, dear. They seek me out. I would like a little time to recover from this ordeal, though. My old bones don't spring back like they once did. And I really want to find someone to…let's say share a bottle or two with, yes?"
- What about Investigator Vale? Is that what you're going to write?
- "These accusations that I'm some clandestine writer of tawdry thrillers are beginning to rankle, dear. I understand that the next Vale novel will feature an unlikely location, a new romantic interest, and a villain of epic proportions. Or so I heard."
Before you leave the room, Lady Arabelle will ask the alliance leaders if they're ready to speak to one another, which they all agreed and head over to the room next door to begin the talks:
- Lady Arabelle Davaux: "Are we ready to begin, your majesties?"
- Prince Irnskar: "I suddenly feel extremely…humble."
- Queen Ayrenn: "Well, gentlemen, shall we?"
- High King Emeric: "I suppose we shall. We did endure much to get to this point, after all."
- Queen Ayrenn: "Then let us see how possible peace may be."
