Morrowind, Legends

Ash Vampires, also known as Heartwights, are very powerful ash creatures created by the connection forged by Dagoth Ur to the power of Heart of Lorkhan. Considered to be distinct from actual "vampires" themselves. The terms "Ash Vampire", and "Blood Vampire" are used to distinguish between the two kinds of vampires. In addition, these creatures are not actually undead, and it isn't possible to catch vampirism from them.[1][2][3] Despite this, many on Vvardenfell considered them as a powerful form of undead.[3]

There were only seven known Ash Vampires, they were considered brothers to Dagoth Ur and were chief among his servants, described as powerful and cunning sorcerers of old.[4][5] Similar in appearance to Dagoth Ur himself, possessing sharp claws and a third eye, they served as the nobility of House Dagoth.[6] They were known to have slept alongside Dagoth Ur under Red Mountain for thousands of years.[7] Dagoth Ur was able to give portions of his power and immortality to these few individuals of his original House.[4][7] As such when they appeared to die, they would eventually be revived at the Heart.[4][8] Dagoth Ur's plan for his brethern was for them to be established as the god-priests of Akulakhan.[9]

All seven of the Ash Vampires were slain by the Nerevarine.[4]

Known Ash VampiresEdit

Dagoth AraynysEdit

"I'm going to kill you. You don't believe that, or you wouldn't be here. You are the challenger, so, by House Dagoth custom, yours is the first move."
—Dagoth Araynys

Dagoth EndusEdit

"I greet you, [Nerevarine]. Or Nerevar. Or whoever you are. I'm Dagoth Endus, brother of Dagoth Ur, and lord of Citadel Endusal. Would you like a little ancient Dagoth brandy?"
—Dagoth Endus

Dagoth GilvothEdit

"Oh, just shut up, will you?"
—Dagoth Gilvoth

Dagoth OdrosEdit

"Many mortals serve their gods. Few are so fortunate to be invited to share their divine power with them. Lord Dagoth makes you a generous offer, [Nerevarine]. Join him, and you can share the divine, eternal power of Lorkhan's heart. So far, all your struggles, your battling, your destructiveness... all these things might be understood as improving your bargaining position. Come now, we hold you no bitterness. You cannot truly harm us. We can afford to forgive."
—Dagoth Odros

Dagoth TureynulEdit

"No. I'm sorry. No flowery speeches. No subtle tricks. No formal boasts or challenges. Fight. Or leave. But don't expect me to pass the time of day with you."
—Dagoth Tureynul

Dagoth UtholEdit

"Lord Dagoth says you will join us or die. I thought you might just leave us alone, and go about your own affairs. But Lord Dagoth says it is not your way, to leave a thing well enough alone. Perhaps. I cannot remember you at all. But I do my Lord's bidding. I have always done his bidding. So go to him and submit. You will be given power and place. And, perhaps, peace and forgiveness. Do as you like."
—Dagoth Uthol

Dagoth VemynEdit

"I'm one of the oldest things to ever have slipped from a womb, [Nerevarine], but I've never heard of anyone talked to death. Of course, there's always a first time. And I was brought up properly. I know it's not polite to interrupt. So you just go ahead. Talk all you want. And when you're done, go home. Or take your best shot. It's all the same to me."
—Dagoth Vemyn
