Is my magic resistance interfering with me getting infected?

I have a +30 magic resistance, and I've literally been sitting here for 10 minutes with a vampire wailing on me and doing vampiric drain rather often, and I haven't been infected yet.

Is my magic resistance interfering with that? — Unsigned comment by 24.176.165.68 (talk) at 00:47 on 17 March 2012

please sign with 4 of these: ~ lol (if you don't have an account it'll still sign, helps to show where one person stopped talking and the next started)
if I'm understanding the mechanics correctly, the magic resistance shouldn't have any effect on whether you contract the disease or not (though 100% might, needs testing)
also, unlike previous games, the vamp's physical attacks have no chance of infecting you, only the drain - there was a tip about getting out of sight of it then going back closer, and that would have them using the drain more often, don't know if it works or not, but worth a shot... DextroWombat 01:42, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
The vampiric drain spell being cast upon you is the only way, barring being bitten by Serana or Harkon, to contract vampirism. The trick is that it only has a chance to infect you when the spell hits, not over the course of the duration. So if you get hit with the spell and don't get infected you have to move out of range and back again so they will recast it. Sorry if this is a little hard to understand, but feel free to ask questions if you didn't, and I'll try to explain it better. — Unsigned comment by Silentsentinel (talkcontribs) at 21:03 on 4 November 2012‎

Biting the wrong place

Every time my imperial character feeds he bites the leg instead of the neck (1.0 skyrim patch) is this a bug or a glitch? User:AlphaArgonian182 15:19, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Ice Form + Vampiric Grip = Lulz

I discovered this using a spell I created in the creation kit. Basically, I re-created the Vampiric Grip spell in a form that could be used by anyone, not just vampires. Because my spell uses the same effect as VG, I'm curious whether the same thing will happen for a Vampire player using the actual Vampiric Grip spell. So, can someone with an un-modded Skyrim please test this a few times? Freeze an enemy with Ice Form, then turn into a Vampire Lord and use Vampiric Grip to pick him up and throw him before Ice Form wears off. He should start spinning and wobbling through the air in random directions until he thaws. -Trogdor — Unsigned comment by 99.141.27.127 (talk) at 05:39 on 3 January 2013

I believe questions like these will get more answers if posted in the forums than here. Actually there might be a good chance the patrollers might even just as well remove both your question and my answer from here for being irrelevant to the article. —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:56, 3 January 2013 (GMT)
Well considering this is a question regarding vampire abilities in un-modded skyrim, it does belong, but I agree, there will be a lot more interest in the forums. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 06:01, 3 January 2013 (GMT)
Well, if it does work this way in an unmodded Skyrim, I think it would be worth adding a note on this to the notes or bugs sections of the relevant pages (Ice Form's, Vampirism's, or the Vampire Lord's). As hilarious as this is to watch, I imagine it could break some quests. For example, I can totally see a npc carrying a quest item flying off to an inaccessible area. And so I do think this belongs here, as the purpose is to discover information that should be on the wiki, rather than having a discussion on the topic, which is what forums are for. Plus, I assume to talk on the forums you need to register an account, and that isn't something I care to do. -Trogdor — Unsigned comment by 99.141.27.127 (talk) at 09:44 on 4 January 2013

Vampirism and lycanthropy at the same time

i don't know how many times this has happened to anyone; but i think i got hit by serana's drain spell and the next thing i know the game is saying that i'm weakened by the sun; i looked at my active magic and i had all the vampire abilities and weaknesses

does anyone know what to do about this? — Unsigned comment by 66.223.225.21 (talk) at 21:39 on 11 January 2013

I have the same problem, my character is a werewolf, but I seem to have caught vampirism, I left a cave and got the "you are weakened by the sun" notification. I also had Serana as a follower when this happened. Anyone know how this is possible? 80.41.60.141 02:02, 4 April 2013 (GMT)
There's a known bug where if Serana drinks a Potion of Blood while following you, you can be turned into a vampire. This is probably what happened to both of you. The main workaround is to not give her any Potions of Blood. --Morrolan (talk) 12:32, 4 April 2013 (GMT)

Vampire's Sight/Embrace of Shadows

Does the Vampire's Sight power disappear upon gaining Embrace of Shadows? Shadowrose6663 (talk) 15:06, 17 January 2013 (GMT)

No. Vampire's Sight is always available while you're a vampire. Why would it disappear? --Morrolan (talk) 20:04, 6 May 2013 (GMT)

Turned back to Werewolf to cure Vampirism but...

I originally had the werewolf ability but during the Dawnguard quest, I had Serana turn me into a vampire in order to enter the Soul Cairn. After leaving the Soul Cairn, I decided to get myself cured but instead of going through the normal means, I just had Aela turn me back into a werewolf. I'm a werewolf again, but checking my powers list, I still have the vampire powers, and going outdoors during the day, I still suffer vampire penalties. Anyone have any clues what's going on?

Oh, at first, I also had a problem with being attacked by everyone as I was a stage 4 vampire, but I fixed that by deleting something in the script section of the data folder. It had something to do with custom races, though I tried to use one before but don't use a custom race right now. — Unsigned comment by 182.18.209.5 (talk) at 07:10 on 25 January 2013

Fast traveling with low health in the sun can kill a vampire.

That is normal isn't it? If you are a vampire, you hve taken heavy damage, it is daytime when you faft travel and day when you arrive but your stage of vampirism increases during the travel then the sun can kill you? It's the same if you are inside, have low health and step outside during the day, the sun can finish you off. Sun doesn't drain your health but when you initially enter sunlightit damagesyour maximum health and your current health goes down too. — Unsigned comment by Festuskreux (talkcontribs) at 12:28 on 24 February 2013 (GMT)

Comparison images

So, having just cured my male Redguard of vampirism, I took the opportunity to get a before-and-after shot, mainly because this page had 4 comparisons, and all female. We really should at some point have a Nord up there (and it should probably be the top featured image on the page), given they are the most common race in Skyrim. My other character is a Nord, though female. I could go get her vampirized again if need be, unless somebody else would rather use theirs. This brings up the question, however - how many of these images do we want, and how are we going to display them all? If you take 10 races × 2 genders × 2 for with Dawnguard vs. without, you've got 40 total images (80 if you consider that they're all before and after shots). It might be best to display them in some sort of table, though a gallery might suffice. Ideally, you'd want to see the same character in all 3 versions - non-vampire, regular-vampire, DG-vampire, just to see how much difference DG really makes (as opposed to how much is different just because the character's default appearance is different) though that would require annoying and repeated reloading with and without the plug-in installed. Also, should there be any kind of standards for these images? Given the nature of these side-by-side images, the usual 1:1 ratio doesn't work, and even 4:3 is kind of cramped. Right now they're all kind of haphazard, which might look bad if they're lined up in a table. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 05:46, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

It is abit cramped but I got all 3 male Nords into a 4:3 image SR-npc-Vampirism Comparison Nord Male.jpg. I think its best to have all 3 on the same image and have a gallery of them on the page. I could do some more if you think there ok. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 07:05, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
Isn't that Redguard pic a bit dark though? The background doesn't really help either. Also, I know Vighar and Babette are the only examples, but maybe we could make pics for Elders and Children? They're not playable race, but still. Elakyn (talk) 13:05, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
I could crank up the brightness a bit (I actually already did - you should see how dark the original was), but it is taken by dawn's early light by necessity, since that's when you get cured. I actually feel it's slightly inappropriate to show a vampire in broad daylight like some of those other shots. A better shot (at least for Dawnguard pictures) might be to have it during the day, but with the sun blotted out by Auriel's Bow. Anyhow - how are you getting these shots? I did it by playing normally and just taking the shots when I had the opportunity, rather than deliberately setting anything up. As such, the angle is slightly different, because I had to play the game for a bit in between the two to let Falion cure me. Is there some quick console command you can use to just turn vampirism on and off so you get the exact same shot for before and after? (And can this be done for both DG and non-DG vampires without disabling the plug-in?) That would make this task much easier... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:15, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
Oh, and since you bring up Vighar and Babette, there's also the Arch-Curate Vyrthur. Of course we can't get "before" pictures for any of them, though you could compare them to any other male elder, female child, and Knight-Paladin Gelebor, who's the only other Snow Elf we ever get to see. Vighar already has shots for with and without DG. Babette I don't know if there's much noticeable difference beyond the eyes. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:28, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
I took the images during the day because it was too dark to see clearly at night. Is it still bright when you block out the sun? Another alternative could be an indoor shot if there is somewhere bright enough. I used the console commands player.addspell b8780 to become a vampire and setstage vc01 200 to cure it. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 13:31, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
I just realized I cant block out the sun without DG active so that wont work! — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 13:34, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
Brighter, though not extremely so. But yeah, that's not possible without DG. Also, this character doesn't have Auriel's Bow yet, though. I could try that with my female Nord. I've also been using a mod called "Realistic Lighting". It might be brighter (though less interesting) if I turned that off. I like the fact that you actually need to use light spells or torches in some places, which is not the case anywhere in the un-modded game (with the exception of 2 of the Apocrypha zones). — TheRealLurlock (talk) 13:48, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
The article says that "Orcs will have four tusks protruding from their mouth instead of two." but the Male Orc image I added does not have 4 tusks with or without Dawnguard? Also did Argonians and Khajiit not get new looks with Dawnguard? They both look the same for me. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 15:00, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

() Male Imperial taken indoors. I used the fire in Dragonsreach to light it ... but I think it became slightly yellow? I think the outdoor images looked better, unless there is somewhere with better light indoors? — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 15:45, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

One benefit of the darker images is it really brings out the difference in the glowing eyes. In the current Orc picture, for example, you can hardly see the difference in his eyes. My main light source for the Redguard image was the torches being carried by my two followers, so I may also have a bit of a yellowish cast to mine. I tried it using the Candlelight spell, but that just looks all washed out and bluish. (Plus you can see the rays from the spell effect coming in from the top of the shot.) Auriel's Bow blocking the sun produces a slightly red-tinged light, though it's very muted, and kind of flat diffuse lighting. I did notice there's a difference in more than just the color of the skin. Your non-vampire Imperial seems to have more glossiness to his skin than either version of the vampire - you can see a larger highlight on his forehead. I think without a defined specular source (getting technical here, but basically just any nearby point source), you end up with images that look kind of flat - the Orc is a good example of this. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:21, 1 March 2013 (GMT)

New bug found

I don't quite know how to describe this. It's very strange. I'm on XBox, all DLCs. I was outside in daylight after having cast a spell, and then I mined an ore vein while still outside. Then my magicka started regenerating in daylight. I have no enchanted items on that cause magicka regen, and before I mined the vein I wasn't regenerating. The regen effect seemed fairly slow but I shouldn't have been regenerating at all. I don't know if mining would have triggered health or stamina regen as I was at max in both; however, I got into a combat later and my magicka regen was still continuing but health didn't appear to be regenerating (and stamina definitely wasn't). --Morrolan (talk) 15:11, 6 March 2013 (GMT)

All three of them appear to regenerate faster when not in combat (whether or not you're a vampire). I have noticed that magicka and in some cases even health (not stamina as far as I can tell) will regenerate during the day while a vampire, though markedly slower than for non-vampires. It's mainly noticeable if you avoid combat for a long time - and mining ore veins certainly qualifies. (I hate how long that takes. And then they bring in the Stalhrim in DB which takes twice as long. Not fun, Bethesda. Not fun at all.) Anyhow, I think there is some regen even as a vampire, though it may depend on what stage of vampirism you're at. I wasn't keeping track, to be honest. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:46, 7 March 2013 (GMT)
Yeah now I feel embarrassed. I had an enchanted item on with magicka regen and didn't realize it. Doh! So nevermind this one. :) --Morrolan (talk) 16:06, 8 March 2013 (GMT)
Actually, there's another possibility. The first bug on the bugs section says that your regen is only reduced by 75% if you happen to be at stage 3 vampirism. So that likely explains why I was seeing some health and magicka regen (I don't think I was wearing any regen gear). Doesn't explain why I didn't get stamina regen, since it's affected by the same bug, but that could just be my memory failing. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:43, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Feeding Targets (Moved from article)

While there are almost an endless number of feeding targets, some are easier to access than others. The following is a list of useful feeding sources, some of which become available through certain quests.

  • The Companions in Whiterun will not turn hostile towards you as long as you have joined the Companions before reaching the final stage of vampirism. This can be rather useful since other Companions can be fed on without much difficulty during the nighttime hours.
  • The Dark Brotherhood are friendly to you as a Stage 4 vampire, although they will still turn hostile if you are caught feeding on them. However, their beds are scattered throughout the sanctuary and isolating one sleeping member is relatively easy.
  • The Thieves Guild is friendly to stage four vampires and if you are a member, you can fast travel to the secret guild entrance without attracting the attention of the guards.
  • The mages of the College of Winterhold will also not attack a Stage 4 vampire, provided you are a member of the college prior to becoming Stage 4, and you are not seen feeding.
  • A sickly farmer in the Temple of Kynareth can also prove good feeding. This location can be convenient, provided your sneaking skills are good enough, as the farmer will be asleep during the day time as well as night, thus providing sustenance whenever you need it. The wounded soldier on the other side of the room, on the other hand, is almost always being attended to by a healer.
  • The guards barracks in each major town has sleeping guards available for the brave and/or stealthy vampire both day and night.
  • Another reliable feeding strategy is to do the quest The Taste of Death in Markarth, but never finish the final step in the quest. After you lure Verulus to the altar, he will lie down, allowing you to feed on him. Leave him there and you can return to feed whenever you need to, just fast travel to the Reachcliff Secret Entrance.
  • If you are unable to enter a city and feed due to becoming a Stage 4 vampire, head to a military camp between the hours of 7pm and 5am and then become invisible. You'll find soldiers sleeping in tents that can be approached and fed upon without disrupting the invisibility.
  • If you have the Dawnguard plug-in and follow the vampire questline, you can simply go to Castle Volkihar to feed on the Vampire Cattle without any potential drawbacks. You can also find Potions of Blood inside the castle and receive them from doing miscellaneous quests. Drinking one of these potions counts as feeding.

Tips and Tricks (moved from article)

When you are in sunlight, your magicka, stamina, and health cannot regenerate. There are several things you can do to somewhat counter the effects:

  1. You can enchant some armor with stamina, magicka, or health regeneration. This will work but the problem is it will be slower than usual. For example: Stamina regenerates at 100%. That is normal. If you add an enchantment for 25% faster regeneration, it becomes 125%. Now if you have no regeneration powers anyway, but you have the 25% bonus, your stamina will only regenerate at 25% the normal speed.
  2. You can get the spell tome Equilibrium from Labyrinthian during the quest The Staff of Magnus that is part of the College of Winterhold questline. You will also need the spell tome Fast Healing to make this trick work very well. After you have these two spells, you will need to have a Restoration skill of 40 and have the perk Respite (part of the Restoration perk tree). Equip Equilibrium in one hand, Fast Healing in the other. Hold down the Equilibrium spell and it will drain your health (you can die). In your other hand keep using Fast Healing. Since you have the Respite perk your stamina will be restored, and since Equilibrium is draining health to give you magicka, your magicka regenerates. Even though Fast Healing uses magicka, Equilibrium gives more magicka than Fast Healing uses and since Equilibrium drains health, Fast Healing restores it. As you can see this trick is confusing so try it out and you will see. After about five uses of Fast Healing while using Equilibrium, your health, magicka, and stamina will be restored.
  3. The perk granted by the Lady Stone grants a continuous boost to health and stamina regeneration (not a power as the game loading screen indicates), which will allow you to regenerate those two slowly in sunlight.
  4. The Wind Walker perk from the Light Armor skill tree will increase your stamina regeneration rate by 50% so a vampire in daylight will still be able to regenerate their stamina but only at half the normal speed and only if a full set of light armor is being worn.
  5. The Recovery perk from the Restoration skill tree will increase your magicka regeneration (it can be taken twice; the regeneration boost is 25% per perk taken). You can then use Restoration magic to restore your health, and if you have the Respite perk your stamina as well.
  6. The Become Ethereal shout allows you regen normally

New Images & New Table Format

I created and uploaded all of the remaining missing comparison images for each race and gender, but noticed that because there were so many, I sandboxed a new table format for review at User:GodRaine/Sandbox2. Can anyone take a quick look and comment on it before I implement it? Thanks! GodRaineTalk 04:00, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

I'm not real fond of the large empty space in the right 2/3 of the page. Maybe they could be arranged in 3 columns? --Xyzzy Talk 06:09, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
I gave it 2 columns, so it's 5 each. 3 wouldn't divide evenly, so this works best I think. One comment on the new images though - is it really necessary for them to all be naked (well, as naked as you get in un-modded Skyrim)? Just seems weird. I prefer Kimi's 3-image arrangements, which I believe are wearing the clothes you have on at the start of the game. Though they are somewhat more work to put together. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:23, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Yeah getting the characters naked is absolutely not needed and disturbing. Also, we just need a close up of their faces, the body being unchanged, and we need 3 versions (normal, vanilla vampire and dawnguard vampire) not 2. Elakyn (talk) 12:30, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
I'm not a big fan of the table over a gallery. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough table, but changes in player appearance aren't significant enough to take up that much space on the page. Also, even with photos for each gender/race, every individual's character is going to look a little different depending on the skin tone slider, and so on. Galleries are nice in that they adapt to the width of everybody's browser window, so there's no blank space floating around. I do agree that all the images should have the same format, and I prefer the three side-by-side ones (non-vampire / vampire / vampire with DG). eshetalk 14:00, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for the extensive feedback guys :) It was a little lazy of me to go without clothes; I was using showracemenu. I also didn't have Dawnguard installed when these were completed, and I can see why that would be a big benefit. Obviously if the current pictures are disturbing, I will work on changing them. This will include clothes, closer faces, and the dawnguard profiles as well, arranged in threes, as close to the dimensions of the existing Nord Male one as I can get. GodRaineTalk 16:32, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
To be fair, there are definitely visible differences in the bodies as well as just the faces, most noticeable on the Argonian, Breton and Dunmer male and Orc female pictures. But it's still a bit off-putting. If we want to show a bit more skin without being too disturbingly revealing, some of the Fur Armors might be more appropriate. I'd also reiterate that a more dramatic lighting scenario would be great for these images. A night shot (with some decent light source) or something interior, but not too brightly lit. Vampires in broad daylight seems wrong. Obviously they need to be well lit enough for the differences to be visible, but it's not necessary to do it all at full-bright high noon like this. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 04:59, 10 March 2013 (GMT)

Quick question about Altmer armor image

What is the armor worn in the photo of the female Altmer here? Is it found in the base game, through DLC, or is it a mod? I thought I had seen everything (except the ancient Falmer armor). I'm assuming if it were a mod it wouldn't be used in an article. --Crayolamanic (talk) 08:53, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

It is indeed Ancient Falmer Armor, likely looted from Arch-Curate Vyrthur. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:27, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Dread Cloak and Vampiric Strength

I'm seeing that some users are not experiencing the affects of these two powers with vampirism. I didn't find anything personally in the scripts that would explain this, but I would rather have an explanation than simply delete the information from the page, if only to describe the problem in a bug. Has anyone found anything that would explain why these powers aren't working? Does anyone remember playing as a vampire where these powers did work? eshetalk 14:03, 12 March 2013 (GMT)

I've never seen either power, and I routinely play as a blood-starved vampire now that I have Dawnguard installed. --Morrolan (talk) 20:13, 13 March 2013 (GMT)

Ability table?

The table of ablilties that vampires seems to be wrong,Im sure vampiric sight is available from stage one.--82.46.168.98 16:14, 14 March 2013 (GMT)

You're right—the script adds it at levels three and four, but it's actually already included as part of the "vampire" versions of all the races, so you would have it as soon as you become a vampire, regardless of what stage you're at. I'll fix the tables now! eshetalk 19:07, 14 March 2013 (GMT)

Resistance/weakness in table?

The Stages of Vampirism table puts the variable Weakness to Fire in the stages of vampirism table under Resistances, which is a bit weird. Also it doesn't list the variable amount of the weakness to sunlight at all, that's in the text; might it be better to split Weakness to Fire/Sunlight off into their own row and give the 15/30/45/60 levels of sunlight in the table? Also it seems weird to have Weakness to Sunlight described under Powers and Abilities. --Morrolan (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2013 (GMT)

Well, Weakness to Fire goes with resistances, since it's more or less a negative resistance to fire. As for Weakness to Sunlight, yeah, that was one of the drawbacks of making the table this way: I just couldn't come up with a way to do it that looked good. It makes more sense to me to keep Weakness to Sunlight sorted under Active Effects, since that's what it is, but it may be possible to squeeze the values in there as well. What if we tried it like this:
Active Effects

Champion of the Night
Nightstalker's Footsteps
Weakness to Sunlight
(-15 health, magicka, and stamina)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-30 health, magicka, and stamina)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-45 health, magicka, and stamina)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-60 health, magicka, and stamina)

I think that could work...it's not as aesthetically appealing to me as leaving it out, but it gets the job done, and that's more important. I would still want to leave the text description below, though, for clarity and to mention the stunted regeneration as well. We could always just change the name of that subheader if it seems to awkward having an active effect thrown in there as well. eshetalk 20:13, 19 March 2013 (GMT)
How about just change health, magicka and stamina to the one word "attributes" and leave them in regular font size? That would look like this...
Active Effects

Champion of the Night
Nightstalker's Footsteps
Weakness to Sunlight
(-15 attributes)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-30 attributes)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-45 attributes)

• Champion of the Night
• Nightstalker's Footsteps
• Weakness to Sunlight
(-60 attributes)

If I knew the code I'd put in a code to right-justify the attributes lines too. I'm in favour of leaving the text description, because putting in the regeneration stunting effect is important and it doesn't belong in the table. --Morrolan (talk) 20:32, 19 March 2013 (GMT)
Oh hey, that's a good idea! Keeps the line much shorter, which I like. I have to head out soon, but I can play with the formatting in a little bit to see if I can make it look good ;). eshetalk 20:45, 19 March 2013 (GMT)

'Normal' vampirism and Dawnguard

Are 'Vanilla' vampires (vampirism by disease instead from Harkon/Serana's gift) affected by the Dawnguard DLC? For example, do you still get attacked by NPCs at Stage Four vampirism as a 'normal' vampire? --94.220.218.136 12:04, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Once Dawnguard is installed, all the changes listed take effect, no matter how you get infected or if you were a vampire before installation. The only difference when letting Harkon or Serana infect you is that they also give you the ability to transform into a vampire lord. So with DG a stage 4 vampire can walk safely in public, all resistances are modified, etc.. 92.136.107.29 13:12, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
There may be other changes made as well to ordinary vampires when Dawnguard is installed; we're still exploring. It looks likely that Dawnguard prevents vampire PCs from feeding on Sybille Stentor, because she's a vampire, which seems to be allowed without the DLC. --Morrolan (talk) 13:54, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Lady Argonian man motion?

Why isn't this under bugs? Just to be clear female argonians after becoming a vampire will have male stances and animations. You can even see this on the page via the image of the female argonian, but it's odd it's not under bugs.(174.60.97.79 05:26, 2 April 2013 (GMT))

Usually things that are listed as bugs are things which interfere with normal gameplay; e.g. when you kill a dragon but don't get a dragon soul as a reward, that's a bug, but weird things that don't affect gameplay - like for example when you're walking along and a dead dragon corpse plummets out of the sky, that's usually treated as a note. --Morrolan (talk) 13:18, 2 April 2013 (GMT)

When Is "Daylight"?

What are the in-game times that count as daylight and cause the vampiric weakness to sunlight? I'm a n00b vampire and I first got the message that I was taking damage from the sun at 5:00 AM. It was pitch black outside with no sign of the sun. After sleeping I went outside at 7:00 PM and didn't expierience any sunlight damage even though it's still obviously daylight. What are the official times and do they vary with the weather or regional climate?— Unsigned comment by ‎98.160.100.108 (talk) at 05:30 on 9 April 2013‎ (GMT)

As the article stated and you mentioned, 5am to 7pm. I don't think weather affects anything. Daylight still hurts my vampire even when it's dim and overcast. -Zydrate[][] 05:46, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
Well as you said, daylight starts at 5AM even if the sun doesn't show. From my experience it finishes around 5-7PM. The climate doesn't affect anything but I think the weather does, because I was in Falkreath one time and it was raining (around 1PM) and my health regenerated. I hope this at least half answers your question. - Chez talkemail 05:50, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
Now that you mention it, sometimes I'm confused as to why I see my stamina regenerate in daylight hours. So I'm probably wrong.-Zydrate[][] 05:51, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
I remember that weather affected HP loss in Oblivion, but I never noticed increased regeneration in Skyrim without perks/potions/enchanted equipment. -- Elakyn (talk) 09:04, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
OP here. Thanks for the answers and sorry I missed that in the article. Does the daylight "schedule" change when you become a vampire? I would swear that, before I turned, dawn visibly came around 7:30AM or slightly later but now it gets bright out and trees cast shadows by 5:30AM. — Unsigned comment by 98.160.100.108 (talk) at 16:07 on 9 April 2013 (GMT)
The sun doesn't need to be visible, if it's between 5 am and 7 pm you'll suffer from attributes reductions and stunted regeneration. So yeah at 5:00 it's usually still very dark, but it doesn't really matter. -- Elakyn (talk) 17:48, 9 April 2013 (GMT)
If you look closely, at 5am the first red patches of sun start becoming visible around the horizon. Sunset is much more noticeable if you have the Auriel's Bow from Dawnguard, and have shot out the sun; just at 7pm when the bow's effect wears off you can see the red glow around the horizon. --Morrolan (talk) 19:31, 9 April 2013 (GMT)

Stage 4

I'm being attacked at stage 4 vampirism, even though I have Dawnguard installed. Really bugging me :(
I have the Unofficial Dawnguard patch installed, maybe this has something to do with it? Never had a problem before, though. Eldubya (talk) 08:34, 27 May 2013 (GMT)

Are you sure that it's not due to having a high bounty? --Xyzzy Talk 01:20, 28 May 2013 (GMT)

Regarding the "Burnt Face" Glitch on Female Vampires

I wanted to note that the dirty face glitch that occurs on female (and male?) vampires is caused by eyeliner in character creation. If you slide the setting as far to the left as it will go (i.e. no eyeliner), the glitch will not occur every time you load/reload a save. Also, I've tested (on the Xbox 360) and the fix that involves loading from an old save game prior to becoming a vampire, no longer works after the official patch v. 1.6, which is why I added that note into the bugs section. I guess some other people would need to test this out to get a definite confirmation (i.e. if needed). --Blackpete (talk) 08:22, 1 June 2013 (GMT)

I've never seen the burnt face glitch. I wondered if it was fixed in a Bethesda update? --Morrolan (talk) 13:44, 1 June 2013 (GMT)
I can confirm that Bethesda hasn't fixed it in a patch yet (as of v. 1.9). --Blackpete (talk) 08:23, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
There is nothing in the patch notes that suggests they even went near this issue. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:10, 2 June 2013 (GMT)
