Moraelyn's Companions were a group of adventurers that consisted of the Chimer King of Ebonheart Moraelyn, and his various allies.[1][2] The group formed organically over time by the bond of various friendships, romances, and strategical alliances. The most significant venture taken on by the group came when they added the young Prince Edward to their ranks, taking him on a journey across various provinces of Tamriel to teach him magic, combat prowess, and make him overall more worldly to help prepare him to be a great King of Daggerfall.[3]
MembersEdit
Moraelyn
Moraelyn was the Chimer King of Ebonheart and the leader of the Companions, he was a member of the ancient Ra'athim Dynasty. Moraelyn balanced mentoring young Edward in his path towards becoming a great king, while also leading and protecting his Companions on their journey throughout Tamriel. Years before Edward joined their ranks, Moraelyn and the Companions found themselves in Fang Lair where they had an encounter with a Dragon. The Dragon was in great distress, evidently from an abscess caused by a bad tooth. Moraelyn helped remove this bad tooth and heal the Dragon who revealed himself as the Lord of Dragons, Akatosh.[4] He also facilitated the initiation of him and most of his companions into the Crystal Tower of the Summerset Isles, making them some of the first non Altmer to ever be allowed to study magic there. [5]
Aliera
Queen Aliera of Wayrest was the mother of Edward, married to his father, King Corcyr I of Daggerfall.[6] She would develop a romantic relationship with Moraelyn and eventually run off with him, sometime later reuniting with her son when he joined the Companions. Eventually married Moraelyn who became a father figure of Edward.[7]
Edward
Edward was retrieved from Castle Daggerfall into the safekeeping of the Companions at the whim of the Archmagister of the Crystal Tower I'ric Harad Egun and the Lord of Dragons Akatosh, who foresaw great things for Edward as a future ruler.[6] Edward was reunited with his mother Aliera and learned much in his time with the Companions. He was personally invited to the Crystal Tower by the Archmagister I'ric where he was taught much about magic.[8] The Archmagister gave him a mithril staff upon his departure and Moraelyn gave him a useful weapon, the Ebony dagger Dragon's Tooth.[9] Many years after their adventures when Edward had become King of Daggerfall, Edward called on fellow Companion Moraelyn to help him repel a Nordic occupation in Daggerfall. Using the mysterious weapon known as the Horn of Summoning, the two kings repelled the Nords.[2]
Mith
Mith was a half-Chimer-half Nord Companion, being born to a Chimer mother and Nordic father, taking on mostly the elven appearance of his mother although he did have his father's red hair. He was described as tart tongued and very brave. Mith was taken in as an initiate into the Crystal Tower along with several other Companions to increase their prowess in magic.[5]
Mats
Mats, also known as Slave of Moraelyn or Slave for short, was a Nord who Moraelyn and Mith came upon in Reich Parkeep. Mats was sold into slavery by his father and by chance Moraelyn and Mith came upon Mats being beaten by his cruel slave master. Moraelyn killed the slave master and told Mats he was free to go if he so pleased, but Mats chose to stay with the group, in truth being an equal and not a slave of Moraelyn as his name implied.[10] Mats attributed this timely salvation from Moraelyn to luck, because it so happened that Mats was a descendant of Sai, the God of Luck, who would often be with him and bless him in various ways.[11]
Ssa'ass
Ssa'ass was an Argonian Companion who specialized in restorative magic. Because of his special skill with battle injuries, he along with several other Companions were invited as initiates into the Crystal Tower. [5]
Silk
Silk was a Khajiit Companion. She was a bit flirtatious and was allowed into the Crystal Tower with several other Companions.[5]
Willow
Willow was a Bosmer Companion along with her twin brother Beech. Willow had a unique inherent ability to absorb Magicka but not regain it otherwise, consistent with those born under The Atronach constellation. Like many other Companions, she was invited as an initiate into the Crystal Tower.[5]
Beech
Beech was a Bosmer Companion along with his twin sister Willow. Willow was admitted into the Crystal Tower as an initiate along with his sister and several other companions.[5]
Geoffrey
Geoffrey was a Bosmer who joined the Companions later on in their journey in a village near Raven Spring that housed both mortals of various races and Dragons, including the God of Time Akatosh, who disguised himself as a more mundane dragon rather than the god of dragonkind he was.[12]
Geoffrey, similar to Akatosh, appeared to be more than he seemed, showing up seemingly out of nowhere and speaking cryptically to Akatosh about rumination on the metaphysics of divinity and magic.[12] Akatosh introduced Geoffrey as a wandering bard. Geoffrey performed song with the companions, including Moraelyn, who was said to be so good at singing it was as if he was taught by Jephre himself.[7]
Akatosh
Akatosh, Lord of the Dragons, formed a friendship with the Companions and became an occasional presence in their travels due to the kindness showed to him from Moraelyn. Akatosh helped retrieve Edward from Castle Daggerfall flying the young prince to Summerset Isle into the safekeeping of the Companions. Akatosh personally recommended the retrieval of Edward as he believed he was destined for great things.[6] He would later welcome the companions into a city in the Wrothgarians that housed mortals and Dragons alike, including the esteemed peer of Akatosh, the Queen of Dragons Ma-Tylda.[12]
I'ric
I'ric Harad Egun was the Altmer ArchMagister of the Crystal Tower who became a great ally of the Companions. Having let the Companions become some of the first non Altmer initiates into the Crystal Tower, I'ric later traveled on the back of a unicorn accompanied by Moraelyn and Akatosh to retrieve Edward from Castle Daggerfall as I'ric and Akatosh believed Edward was destined for greatness.[6] I'ric would help personally mentor Edward during his own stay at the Crystal Tower, giving him a Mithril staff upon his departure. [8][9] His name was associated with the Companions forever onward[13] and alters to his reverence could even be found in the Illiac Bay in the late Third Era in commemoration of the role he played in the life of one of High Rock's most famous rulers.[14]
