Welcome!Edit

LorebooksEdit

I admire your energy in adding to the wiki. Good work.

Among your contributions I see you have been adding Lorebooks to location. Lorebooks are those books that give Reputation score in the Mages Guild. Unfortunately, some of the notes you have added are not.

Further, you have been adding to locations books that randomly spawn in bookshelves. The problem is, that the next player who checks the bookshelf will find a random other book there. Not the book you have added.

I have undone your addings to a couple of pages, but I do not know how many places you have added, so it would be nice if you could re-check them yourself, as I guess you might have notes on it? —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:56, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

MortenOSlash, I've been trying to figure out how to reply and haven't. Is this it? Anyway, if you see this, thanks for the corrections. Obviously I'm new to this. Didn't know there was a difference in the Lore Books and didn't know about the bookshelves. Now I know. Thanks.

As I have posted on your talk page, I am expected to keep an eye her for your answers, so your way of answer is on the spot correct.
You do to some extent chose how to edit and format your own user talk page, but I guess you will probably soon find it convenient to indent the discussion like on most other talk pages on the articles (one more : on the beginning of the paragraphs for each new contribution to the discussion), and quite possibly you will find it useful to sign your own contributions on your own user talk page, like it is expected on other talk pages too. (Instructions for how to sign can be found near the bottom of every talk page, and can as well be done by using the second last button above the edit box we write in.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:50, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

ESO NPC informationEdit

How do you find out some not-so-obvious information about ESO NPCs, like health, level, factions, even sometimes race is hard to tell visually?--Ray75228 (talk) 22:58, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Hey Ray75228, I can not tell you anything about ESO NPCs (someone else will probably chime in for that), but if you want to discuss or ask questions in real time with other editors, you can join our Discord. All information here: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:Discord. If you don't want that, you can always opt in for our Mentor program: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:Mentor_Program or otherwise just ask some questions on the talk pages of other users. Have fun editing! --Ilaro (talk) 00:59, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Ilaro!--Ray75228 (talk) 01:14, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
For health, there's an option under the interface (or possibly nameplate?) settings to display that, and generally you can match those numbers with the ESO Health to make editing easier. Factions is a bit trickier; sometimes you can tell from talking to the NPC, sometimes by where they are (like if they're in a faction's camp), sometimes you can't tell. --FioFioFio (talk) 01:32, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Fio! I'll check for the health setting. An educated guess like you said is what I had been doing. I just thought I'd check to see if there was a more scientific way.--Ray75228 (talk) 01:36, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
If you're on PC, there's also the Azurah add-on, which will display NPC health but will not truncate the number like the default UI does. NPC level is deprecated, so doesn't need to be added for new NPCs. As FioFio said, faction can only really be done based on dialogue or location. Race may be doable by their name if it's not easy to tell by looking. Hope that helps! --Enodoc (talk) 11:58, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Edit SummariesEdit

Hey Ray75228, you are doing a great job at the Online namespace. It would be nice if you could also add a small Edit summary (2-3 words) when you edit a page. This will make the life of our Patrollers a lot easier. Thanks in advance and good luck editing! --Ilaro (talk) 21:18, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Will do--Ray75228 (talk) 21:20, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

A message from fellow editorEdit

Just dropping a note to say your work has been noticed by a fellow editor, and appreciated.Timeoin (talk) 21:06, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you.--Ray75228 (talk) 21:07, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
(Sorry, I didnt see the reply, still getting used to this way of talk paging). But you're very welcome :) Timeoin (talk) 12:01, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

NPC Image categories ;)Edit

Ray, please add categories when you upload images! Then the poor patrollers can skip doing it :D For example NPCs have the "Online-NPC Images" category. The option for adding categories is right there on the upload page. Hugs, Tib (talk) 08:20, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

sorry, i didn't even know there was such a thing. i'm looking at the 'upload image' page and i'm not finding a category section. i see the 'browse' button for the file, destination file name, summary, licensing, then the 'watch' and 'ignore' toggles. am i missing something? do i need special rights or something? i also looked on the help:images page and don't see anything about adding a category. didn't mean to make a bunch of work for everyone. if someone can help me out, i'd be glad to comply.--Ray75228 (talk) 02:53, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
ok, so i just looked at an existing image and see the category at the bottom. then i clicked 'edit' and in the text box i saw underneath licensing. i just dont see that when i'm uploading though. am i missing something or do you have to add it after you've done the first upload? surely i'm just missing something.--Ray75228 (talk) 03:05, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
doh! now i've added the category to my talk page! i can't win for losing!--Ray75228 (talk) 03:06, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
In the Wiki markup box, you can hit [[Category:]] and then type the category after the : You could also turn the HotCat tool on in your settings--FioFioFio (talk) 03:15, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Yep, if you go to Preferences (top right) and then to gadgets, you can activate HotCat underneath Editing Gadgets for easy Category editing. --Ilaro (talk) 08:18, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Oh, yes, I would really suggest activating HotCat, per Fio and Ilaro's instructions. Since you seem to have a passion for working with images, this will be a helpful tool for you :) It also helps you to find categories by giving you suggestions once you start typing category name. If you look at the image I provided, this is where the gadget should appear after you activate it.
Alternatively, you can type the category in the "Summary" box, using Wiki markup text, just like Fio says. But this means you need to know what the category is called. Now, the [[Category:Online-NPC Images]] is not hard to remember, but I still suggest trying out the HotCat ;) I hope this helps!

Just to re-iterateEdit

Thank you HEAPS for helping add content like the pickpocket type :) Timeoin (talk) 02:47, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

no problem. just fillin' holes.--Ray75228 (talk) 00:59, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Its awesome work! It does help heaps. :) Timeoin (talk) 01:44, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

UserpatrollerEdit

Hey Ray75228, I'm posting to let you know you qualify for Userpatroller status. Userpatroller is the first step towards becoming more involved with the UESP. If you're interested, just add your name to the page under applicants. You can then also add its neat userbox to your page. --Ilaro (talk) 23:38, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Ilaro. I'm honored.Ray75228 (talk) 00:57, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
Welcome to the wonderful world of small red exclamation marks! If you wish, you can now put a {{User Userspace Patroller}} box on your profile. Robin Hood  (talk) 02:43, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

2920Edit

The book you just created, ON:2920, Sun's Dawn (v2), already exists under the title "The Year 2920, Vol. 4-5" (see ON:2920: The Last Year of the First Era) for ESO. I only see the pre-existing title in the log for ESO, so I can't tell if this is a new version with different text, as the ESO books were split into 28 where before there were only 12. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:50, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

thanks the silencer, i did not know that. i created this because the quest, The Tower Sentinels, had a letter that made reference to that volume. when i did a search, i didn't see an Online version (i guess i didn't look hard enough) so i thought i'd create it. i can link to the other one instead, but how do we go about deleting the one i created?--Ray75228 (talk) 00:58, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
As the author of the page you can use the {{speed}}y deletion template, citing author's request and a note why it was incorrect. Don't feel too bad, there seem to be some issues with some of the books that you've highlighted and I am fixing. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:04, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
got it! and done! 'preciate the help.--Ray75228 (talk) 01:17, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

NPC stubsEdit

Hey Ray, if you believe most of the dialogue, image, and quests are listed on an NPC page, could then also remove the {{Stub|NPC}} tag from the page? This way we know what NPCs still need a lot of work and which are basically finished. Thank you! --Ilaro (talk) 21:40, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

can do! wasn't sure if there was an official protocol to determine if there was anything left or not. some of these npcs i think belong to quests that i have long since completed (and forgotten), but i'll remove the stubs more often where i can.--Ray75228 (talk) 21:47, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
Stubs are pages that were created, but did not have much input from an editor. So feel free to remove any stub tag if you see one on a finished page. A list of all ESO stubs can be found here and one for ESO NPCs can be found here. As you can see we have a lot of them so I really appreciate your dedication with documenting them. I believe that quite a bit of them are not real stubs anymore due to your (and others) help. It would be nice if we can slowly clean up this list so we know which pages still need some help. There is also the related incomplete pages list, but that's more reserved for when there has been substantial input, but there is still missing info. I hope this makes it a bit more clear? If you have any other questions, please ask! --Ilaro (talk) 16:04, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
i see now. thanks! i'll start removing those stubs.--Ray75228 (talk) 00:03, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrolled?Edit

I've noticed that you do a lot of quality edits for ESO NPCs, and think it would be a great idea for you to be an autopatrolled user. Unfortunately, autopatrolled status conflicts with the permissions for being a userpatroller. Would you like to continue being a userpatroller? I can rescind my nomination if so.--FioFioFio (talk) 02:04, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Fio. To be honest, I don't do a lot of patrolling. I tend to bounce around and make edits as I come across things in the game. So, I'd be fine being autopatrolled instead.--Ray75228 (talk) 01:03, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
Hey Ray, we are now voting for your possible autopatrollership. Maybe you'd like to have a look here at what people say and maybe even leave a comment yourself? --Ilaro (talk) 18:57, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
You are now auto-patrolled. I believe this means all your little red exclamation marks will now disappear. Can you please let me know one way or the other, just so I know for future reference. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 01:01, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Robinhood70. I don't see any exclamation marks (but to be honest, I never noticed any before). Where would they be?--Ray75228 (talk) 02:20, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
If you have them, you'd see them in Recent Changes right before the page title. This should show a red exclamation mark on every line, if you can see them at all. Robin Hood  (talk) 03:29, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I can confirm they're gone now.--Ray75228 (talk) 16:57, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
You would only have seen them on userspace edits, like this one I'm making (and the single unpatrolled userspace edit on the list from 17 August). It is the patrollers who won't see red marks by any of your edits now. You can see the difference with the same link above by all your unchecked edits from before the change still showing (79) to none afterwards. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:17, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

() I remember at one point, someone said that the exclamations were appearing on all unpatrolled edits for userpatrollers, but that was a long time ago. It's possible that Nephele fixed it after the comment I'm remembering or that I'm just misremembering. I hadn't thought of doing so until today, but it occurred to me that I could just use one of my doppelganger accounts to check everything. Sorry for the needless request. Anyway, I just did that, and everything is what I would have expected: no exclamation marks for autopatrolled and User space only for userpatrollers. Thanks for your efforts/comments, Ray and Silencer! Robin Hood  (talk) 20:42, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

The problem came with userpatroller and autopatrolled at the same time, which effectively made you a patroller due to conflicts in the way they worked, which is why it is forbidden to be both at the same time (written on their pages). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:24, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I was aware of that, but hadn't connected it to the exclamation marks. That's likely what I'm thinking of. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 23:54, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Just a couple notes.Edit

Can you make sure to include all of the basic NPC template, including the commented out bits for Notes and Bugs? It really helps new editors when they need to add notes and bugs if the correct format is already present on the page, and it helps keeps things listed in the correct order! In addition, if an NPC doesn't have pickpocket or loottype because they are friendly, you shouldn't include N/A for those values, cause that will cause the values to appear in the infobox. Simply omitting those parameters will mean they won't appear at all. :) Jeancey (talk) 03:32, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

can do! --Ray75228 (talk) 00:52, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Hey! You're still doing great work! Just wanted to ask that the basic NPC template stuff, even while commented out, remain on the page. As an ever, evolving game, they can and do change things about existing content and it is entirely possible that a bug or note might need to be added to a page in the future. Removing these comments makes it harder for new users to add a bug that you might not have experienced when interacting with the NPC, or a note that you might not have thought of. Thanks! Jeancey (talk) 20:28, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
oh, ok. i thought we were supposed to be cleaning up unused stuff, but makes sense what you say. what about removing the {{Stub|NPC}}, should that stay? when does that need to come off?--Ray75228 (talk) 20:36, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
That should come off when you think it is complete. It can always be added back if someone thinks it still is a stub. It's harder to add back the other stuff unless you already have it saved somewhere. :) Jeancey (talk) 20:44, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
got it! thanks for the help.

ESO ImagesEdit

Hi Ray! The new version of File:ON-creature-Knight of Marrow.jpg you uploaded is excellent, nice work. You might just be careful in future when uploading an image not to replace the older version if it depicts something that is deprecated or usable in a different context. The older image shows a different model of the creature in a different location, so I've reuploaded it. It might be more convenient for you if you simply upload under a new name, to prevent the need for this. —Legoless (talk) 13:46, 14 March 2020 (GMT)

Thanks Legoless. I didn't realize it was a different model. Given that, I completely agree. --Ray75228 (talk) 13:54, 15 March 2020 (GMT)

Warclaw IrgazaarEdit

So, Warclaw Irgazaar already has a page, but there was a typo in the wise woman's dialogue. I've marked the sic, and deleted the duplicate page. I'm leaning towards deleting the image you uploaded too, because I think the color is better on the existing image. What are your thoughts? Jeancey (talk) 00:06, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

ah, good catch. yep agree on the image, mine was taken at night, always hard to get the image right. --Ray75228 (talk) 00:12, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
Okay, deleted! I probably wouldn't have caught it, but I had JUST gone through the area like a month ago, and I was confident a page already existed :) Investigating revealed the typo and I understood exactly what had happened haha. Jeancey (talk) 00:15, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
that's great! i'm glad we were able to catch it so quickly. i could imagine someone months from now trying to figure out how there's two identical pages 'cause that typo is hard to see! --Ray75228 (talk) 00:24, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Nagahide Welwa RavagerEdit

On the Nagahide Welwa Ravager, you put "While Nagahide is likely a reference to the Naga, it is also a play on Naugahyde, a brand of imitation leather." Is there a source for them saying this? Or are we just assuming that this is a play on words based on the similarities? If they said it, I think that's fine, but if not, it is entirely possible that it is a coincidence, and we shouldn't state it here without going through the easter egg process. Jeancey (talk) 00:00, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Ok, good point. No they didn't say it, it was just the first thing I thought when I saw the name (lol, it's "pleather"). It seemed pretty obvious to me, but no it's not confirmed. I'm unfamiliar with the easter egg process, can you enlighten me?Ray75228 (talk) 00:51, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Generally, with an easter egg this specific, you'd open a section on the Easter Eggs talk page. Then, people would weigh in to see if there is consensus for the connection to be an intentional reference. At that point, we'd add the note to both the Mount page and the Easter Egg page. This is done because sometimes what one person sees as an obvious connection isn't quite as obvious as they believe or there could be other reasons for the name to be as it is. In this case (I haven't looked into it yet, so I don't know), I'd check into whether there are other mounts with similar name forms (i.e. Nagahide Guar, Nagahide Pony, or whatever), as this might indicate it isn't a specific reference. Things like that. Or if the description of the mount hints at leather, or imitations or something like that, it could indicate it IS a reference.
Hopefully that all makes sense, I felt that maybe I rambled a bit! Jeancey (talk) 01:07, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Jeancey. Yep I follow you. I'll do some research and add it to the ee page if it fits. Thanks again. Ray75228 (talk) 01:17, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Coldharbour Compact MembersEdit

Just letting you know it has been confirmed. See here for a list. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:34, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks AKB, but what i meant was i was wondering if the eight titles in the song ("Schemer, Hunger,"etc.) had ever been matched up to the princes by a confirmed source. there's a post on the forums where it's debated (https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/388706/from-dread-daedra-save-us), but i don't see an official confirmation.--Ray75228 (talk) 22:42, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
