WalkthroughEdit

The shrine is northeast of Markarth, west of Karthwasten. Anyone traveling to the shrine from Markarth would be advised to take the path to the north of Salvius Farm, then take the right fork near Ragnvald, as there is no direct route from Karthwasten to the shrine. A silver ore vein is down the hill to the west, and an iron ore vein is near the ancient totem to the southeast, just below and east of the nearby juniper tree at the base of the small outcropping. Farther east toward Karthwasten, near the edge of the hill above, is another iron ore vein.

The shrine is relatively humble. There is an alchemy lab next to a large rock, with a long wooden table to the right, and a campfire to the right of the table. A cooking pot is hanging over the fire, as is an unused cooking pot that contains an alchemy ingredient. On the table are a copy of the Speech skill book The Buying Game, a scroll of Heal Other, and a metal pot containing a canis root, an abecean longfin, a silverside perch, and a filled soul gem. There is also an odd-looking golden cauldron in front of a withered tree to the south; the tree is wrapped in sickly green roots, with three clusters of bleeding crown fungus along with several human and animal skulls around the trunk. The cauldron is used in the ceremony to contact Peryite during the related quest.

Whereas most Daedric Princes have a statue, the shrine to Peryite is the tree, which is flanked by three large upright stones. The only worshipper of Peryite at the shrine is a Khajiit named Kesh the Clean. Kesh owns all of the items on the table, and will be displeased if he sees you taking any of the items even after you complete the quest for his master. Kesh spends all of his time either cooking or working at the alchemy lab. He doesn't seem to sleep, sit, or even eat, as there is no furniture, bedding, or food in the area.

The shrine is positioned on the top of a cliff above Karthwasten. At the base of the cliff itself, beneath a withered tree to the southeast, lies a natural recess with an interesting easter egg and some good loot. This is an unmarked location. Two random poisons, a random enchanted dagger, a diamond, and two salt piles lie at the base of an ancient stone totem. The top of the totem has two carved human faces facing east and west, and two dragons with straightened tails facing north and south. Shackles hang from the tail of the northern dragon. Given its proximity to the shrine and the fact that Peryite's symbol is a dragon, it can be inferred that the ancient totem has something to do with the Daedric Prince. A Wood Elf corpse and some bloody human body parts lie beneath the totem. There is also an unlocked chest on the south side of the totem containing nice leveled loot, which seems to always include a copy of the Illusion skill book Incident at Necrom. Farther south, just up the hill and behind the rocks, lies a lootable skeleton (easily accessible when descending from the shrine). A few paces westward up the hill from the skeleton in a rocky crevice is another unmarked location, comprising a dead sabre cat on a patch of blood-splattered ground surrounded by a leveled weapon, a leveled enchanted bow, four arrows, and a knapsack containing some loot. A juniper tree lies just east of the totem, toward Karthwasten. A wild animal is prowling nearby, just to the north.

NotesEdit

  • Just southwest of the shrine is a Dwarven ruin guarded by a wispmother. An unlocked Dwarven chest can be found there. (map)
