Chief Larak was an Orc chief of Mor Khazgur as of 4E 201,[1][2] and a former member of the forces of the Imperial Legion.[1]
HistoryEdit
Little is known about his past, except that he once served in the Imperial Legion and earned his position as chief by defeating his father in single combat. Larak reflected on his role as chieftain, believing his challenge was to lead his people. A strict adherent to the old traditions of honor, strength, and deeds, he followed them closely.[1] Larak was a skilled fistfighter, known for his interest in brawls,[3] but he was also a master shieldbearer. He took pride in his expertise in defensive combat and was willing to share his knowledge with others.[1] He governed the stronghold with a focus on resilience and martial prowess.[4]
Larak was recognized for his strength, though opinions on his leadership differed among his clansmen. While some felt he still had much to prove as chief,[5] others were confident in his abilities, seeing both the forge and their leader as equally strong and reliable.[6] Larak's mother, Sharamph, who served as the clan's wise woman, also regarded him as strong and believed that Malacath himself was pleased with his prowess.[7]
Larak fathered several children, including his daughter Borgakh the Steel Heart, a warrior he intended to marry off to another stronghold when she came of age,[8] Olur, his son with one of his wives, the forge-wife Shuftharz, who became a blacksmith,[6][9] and Urzhag gro-Larak, the author of Tastes and Tales from Tamriel, and apprentice to the renowned chef Balagog gro-Nolob.[4]
At some point during the childhood of some of his children, one of his friends delivered a small chest to Mor Khazgur, filled with Orsimer artifacts reclaimed from Breton soldiers. Among these relics was a book detailing a grand feast from the Second Era, organized by the renowned chef Orzorga. During that time, he also traveled to Dushnikh Yal to evaluate potential husbands for his daughter, engage in brawls, and maintain diplomatic relations.[4]
At some point Larak was approached by members of the Dawnguard, who sought his assistance in their fight against vampires. A representative sent by Morgul challenged him to a fistfight, though the outcome remains unknown. Whether Larak emerged victorious and refused aid, or was defeated and chose to support the Dawnguard is unclear. However, it's said that he either sent his warriors to join their cause or to patrol the region of Haafingar for the Dawnguard.[10]
Although he was initially dismissive of his son Urzhag's culinary pursuits, Larak eventually grew to accept his choices and respect him, feeling proud despite Urzhag not being a warrior. At some point during or after 4E 201, following the death of Balagog, Urzhag returned to Mor Khazgur after his long travels. Larak suggested that his son stay at the stronghold with his family, but Urzhag declined, and Larak understood his decision.[4]
