Don't be a victimEdit

Military CampsEdit

Krusty, do you remember if the Markarth or Riften Military camps appeared when you were checking some things about the civil war, or have any save files that you could check. If not, can you think of how they might appear, as they are essentially only used when storming a walled city. Thanks. The Silencer has spokenTalk 21:29, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I'd really like to test it (yep I have saves all over both military quest lines), but maybe you can be a bit more specific? Right now, I'm at the Whiterun Military Camp for the Stormcloaks, and that was definitely not there before.I'd think there will be other camps outside Solitude and Windhelm during the attacks - but I can't think of any other city that is part of the 'battle for'-quests. In any case, ask and it shall be tested! :) --Krusty 06:27, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Essentially its to see if either Imperial or Stormcloak Military Camps for Riften and Markarth appear at any point. I know Solitude, Windhelm and the two at Whiterun appear for storming the city, but I can't find any quests for storming Riften or Markarth on either side. The two Holds appear to be captured when the Fort quest is done in that hold, same as the four minor Holds. It's to be more specific than, Do they appear? sorry and thanks. The Silencer has spokenTalk 15:26, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, just took a look at the “Markarh Military Camp” (before and after completing the CW quest line for both the Imperials and Stormcloaks) and there’s no military camp to be found. I figured that there should be ‘remains’ because the one near Whiterun stays after the quest line, but nothing. Looking through the dialogue, I think they intended to make Riften and Markarth targets for a siege, but skipped it. For example, Legate Rikke has the following dialogue: "The walls of Markarth may be high, but their age will have created weakness or secret entrances. Find them!" and "The approach to Riften is guarded by watchtowers. They will be full of archers. Move fast, and stay low.", both of them referred to as CWSiege – and, to the very best of my knowledge, this never happens in-game. If you want to be 100% certain, you should try one of our resident CK experts, just to see if something can trigger the camps. --Krusty 17:25, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Travels Concept ArtEdit

Continuing on from the discussion in IRC, what do you think of a page at TES Travels/Concept Art? There are a few Shadowkey images which we could put together with the two Dawnstar ones. Then just create redirects at DS:Concept Art and SK:Concept Art. What do you think? --Legoless 19:17, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Hey Lego – I’m sorry about the late response. I think your idea is a good one, and probably the best solution for the limited artwork we have available. This way, we can put redirects on the separate “main pages” without an overkill of articles with one or two images. Let’s go for it! ☺ --Krusty 21:26, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I've created the page. I uploaded a higher-res version of the Gehenoth image and as many concept images of Shadowkey that I could find. --Legoless 14:01, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Looks great! Good work. Too bad we haven't got any SH or OM images, but maybe they'll turn up sooner or later. :) --Krusty 15:05, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
If there was any Stormhold concept art up, we'd have it; Mark seems to have worked on Stormhold and Dawnstar at the same time. I doubt Oblivion Mobile had much, considering it's incredibly pixelated. I briefly considered adding the screenshots of Oblivion PSP on the page, but calling them "concept art" is a bit of a stretch. --Legoless 21:41, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

That works too, I guess...Edit

Not sure if I should leave that User talk:Lina page protected, since you dealt with it another way, but it probably doesn't matter. Persistent buggers these are... --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:03, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Haha - better safe than sorry!! --Krusty 12:28, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

SRQRPEdit

You left before I noticed your wording suggestion, so I didn't get a chance to reply. I'm not fond of using "Journal" just because it's only the quest objectives themselves we're checking, not the whole thing (i.e., the "(Objective is assigned)" part). Also, in the CK, they're called "Quest Objectives" and the section is titled "Quest Stages".

Another idea occurred to me as well: what about a "Reward Checked"? Would that make sense to have separate, or do you just want to roll that into the "WrittenBy"?

Oh, I also created two categories (Checked Objectives and Unchecked Objectives), just to make it easy to figure out what hasn't been checked yet. Not sure we need the "Checked" category, but since "written" and "checked" both work that way, I figured I'd be consistent. They'll need parent categories, but I wasn't sure what category structure you were planning on, so I just created quick descriptions for the time being. Lastly, I could probably have had the bot fill in those that don't have any "Objective is assigned" comments (much like RoBoT did for spellsChecked and such with Oblivion), but in the end, I'd rather they were all human-checked, so I opted not to do that. Robin Hoodtalk 21:56, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey there! The biggest problem I have with the ‘objectives’ wording is that it is a commonly used word all over the SR namespace – and it will probably clash with the quests referred to as ‘objectives’ by the game itself. In short, it is bound to confuse new editors – maybe even old ones, regardless of how we write the project page. Maybe ‘Quest Stages’? As for the rewards, that is a hard thing to check in-game due to the leveled rewards, but I think you’re right – it needs to be oart of the project, even if it seems like another CK/CK thing. In fact, maybe we should just split the project page in two – an in-game section and a CK section? I’ll give that a shot in the morning. ☺ --Krusty 21:58, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Naturally, the minute I hit save, one more thing pops up, and now there's an edit conflict to boot. ;) I only added a plain template initially (e.g., {{Cleanup-srqrp}}). Did you want me to add empty "writtenby", "checkedby", and "objectivesChecked" parameters (below), or hold off until we're more certain what other parameters we might want added? Or not worry about it at all?
{{Cleanup-srqrp
|writtenby=
|checkedby=
|objectivesChecked=}}
Just reading over your reply, I can see your point about wording confusion. While all part of what's referred to in-game as the Journal, Quest Stages and Quest Objectives are now two different things in the CK (in OB they were all one), so I'm equally trying to avoid confusion on that front. I'm not sure what a good solution is, but I'll mull it over and see if anything occurs to me. I think some of this is going to be like the factions were for OBNPCRP...there's really just no way other than the CK to verify them. Splitting it out on the page might not be a bad idea, as then it'll be clear to people what should be done by whom, and the CKers can jump directly to that section if they're only doing CK investigations. Robin Hoodtalk 22:12, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
I've re-added the protection template to {{Cleanup-srqrp}} if you wanted to try re-semi-protecting it. Robin Hoodtalk 00:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

{{cleanup-srqrp}} - New ParameterEdit

Hey Krusty! I see you've been going through all of the quests for the SRQRP and adding all of the authors. I also noticed that you put some notes in the edit summary for a few of them, describing things that should be fixed. So, I added a new notes parameter that you can specify if you want to add any additional notes on the quest page, so that way editors know what needs to be fixed. Just thought I should let you know! • JATalk 22:00, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey Jak! Thanks for updating the template – it will be useful later on. As of now, I’m just reading through all the quests in an attempt to figure out where work is needed and get the tag updated. The edit summaries merely represents the most obvious problems with some of the pages, in case somebody wanted to work on them right away – but overall, a good 90% of the articles needs work to meet the guidelines. I think the notes section will come in handy when the pages hit the Final Preview category – at that point, it will (hopefully) be a matter of small tasks and cleanup that can easily be added to the template. ☺ --Krusty 22:19, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

UESPWiki:Image RequestsEdit

Hey Krusty! I just wanted to let you know that the Image Requests page we talked about has now been launched. Since you're the one I see requesting images more than anyone else on the wiki, it seems appropriate to let you know first. :) Also, thanks for your help on the page itself! ABCface 21:21, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

RingmakerEdit

Hey Krusty, since I know you have PS would you mind using spotlight on Madesi in this image? Cheers :) --SerCenKing Talk 13:44, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Image requests (Ansilvund quest)Edit

Hey Krusty, please let me know if :File:SR-quest-Ansilvund_05.jpg is fine for you or if you want more action. I guess I can get an image of Fjori and Holgeir attacking "the camera", but with Lu'ah and her ice spike tactics involved, it always looks as if - or rather shows that - they're attacking someone invisible in front or behind the camera... --Holomay 17:49, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Ok, forget about what I wrote above. Have a look at File:SR-quest-Ansilvund_06.jpg. Hope you like it. --Holomay 19:20, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Ah, that new one is definitely better – more Fjori and Holgeir and it looks good as a thumb. I’ll use that one. Thanks a lot! --Krusty 19:39, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Glad you like it! BTW I don't mind if you want me to change images. Just let me know (e.g., the oil slick is very prominent in the "Enslaved Draugr" image. Maybe you want a closer shot of the Draugr and the Warlock?). In many cases, there is a decision to be made between closer shots that look good on thumbs and going for the bigger scope so that more details are visible in the original image. --Holomay 06:42, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, looking at the thumb for the enslaved draugr and the overlooking warlock, it does appear as a large oil slick. :D If you can get even closer to them, that would be great, as the oil slick is rather unimportant. The unique part of the shot is that the draugr slaves their a**es off for unknown reasons. That being said, that is totally up to you – page turned out great because of your images, but you’re more than welcome to give it another ‘shot’. Thanks again! --Krusty 07:28, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Here's the closer shot. Still, I ask myself - why would anyone want to sit in that puddle? :-) Holomay 17:43, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

IrilethEdit

Just a friendly prompt about the WIP for Irileth. The last edit to the sandbox was on the 10th May. The Silencer speaksTalk 15:05, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

DawnstarEdit

Another prompt, this is for the Dawnstar game WIPs, obviously not prioritys, but they where added in Feb 2011. The pages are East, Gift Items, North, South, Weapons, and West. The Silencer speaksTalk 15:49, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

All done! --Krusty 20:12, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

NPCsEdit

Hi Krusty, I'm finished school for the summer so I will probably be back adding things to NPC pages whenever possible. Unfortunately my computer broke so I'm editing on a laptop, which i hate:( Anyway I was wondering if you could add a little bit to Thonar Silver-Blood page since it is pretty empty and he is a very important character. Good work on all of the NPC pages too! Thanks. RIM 18:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey RIM. I’ll keep Thonar in mind, although I find the majority of Markarth quite tricky to figure out. It’s like 80% of the citizens can suffer from a scripted death for whatever reason, so there will always be multiple paths to explore – it may be easier when we get some names and explanations on factions such as this one. --Krusty 21:02, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't realise that. I will add a bit to his page if I can. Thanks. RIM 09:30, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

It's a good idea, but..Edit

Won't this prevent everybody (short of admins) from posting external links? I wish there was a way to limit things only to new accounts - that would stop most of it I think. Forcing e-mail confirmation of new accounts is looking more and more like the best option, if only we could get the bureaucrats to set it up... --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:53, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I know it's drastic but it's getting out of hand right now - and that was the only thing I could think about. I have e-mailed Daveh and Nephele about the edit, so I'm just waiting for any of them to respond. Hopefully, we can find a better solution as I agree - blocking everybody from posting external links is not the best of ideas, but it has already helped with what seemed like a huge wave of spam. Fingers crossed! :) --Krusty 11:58, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I wonder if we could do the opposite - set up a whitelist. There's only a handful of sites that are likely to be legitimate to link to - other ES sites, official Bethesda sites, possibly things like YouTube, Google, Flikr, etc., and really that's about it. If we could block all links not containing one of those trusted sites, it might stem the tide of spam without blocking all legit links as well... --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:09, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, it turns out it didn't help at all - mainly because you had it commented out. A new one just appeared (blocking it now). I uncommented the line, let's see if it makes a difference. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:33, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Haha, thanks. Let's hope for a bit of peace and quiet for now. --Krusty 13:52, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I just commented on this in private, but that may need changing to .* . I believe the filter looks at everything after the http://, so as it is now, that would only block sites that have a second http in the name. I tested it, and sure enough, a link with http twice got refused, but these ones both get through: (Wiki link) (Plain link: http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html). I believe it's possible to set it up so that non-autoconfirmed users can't post external links at all (not sure about plain-linking vs. wiki-linking, though), but like e-mail confirmation, it requires server access, so it's back to Dave and Neph. Robin Hoodtalk 16:10, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Alessandra NPC imageEdit

Stormcloak/ImperialEdit

I was referred to you with a question (because of your saves along both sides of the Civil War), which is regarding a rough sandbox I put together on the soldier who talks to you when you first enter Sovngarde (here). I am hoping that people will indicate whether or not it should have its own article, as it seems to be a unique character who has main quest relevance. However, I was also recently informed that it might be either a Stormcloak or Imperial soldier, depending on Civil War progress. So, to finally get to my question, do you think you could check whether or not it is always a Stormcloak (as I thought) or not, and what affects which one it is?

Oh. Nevermind. I just finished typing this to have someone else answer. Sorry! --Vulpa 16:42, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

A questionEdit

If it's no trouble, and there wouldn't be any problem with doing it, think you can blacklist this website http://howtogrow-yourpenis.com? It's been showing up in the spam bots lately, and it's an inappropriate website name for here even if it wasn't for spam. Doable? ES(talkemail) 08:20, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

I got it. Not sure how helpful it'll be, as the target sites for the spam seem to change with every new wave. It might not be a bad plan to always add the spam sites to the blacklist as part of the blocking procedure, though that list might somewhat long, and I remember Nephele at one point had to trim it down because it was supposedly causing performance issues. (I'm not sure if that's really the case, but she knows more than I do about that sort of thing.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:02, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Galmar Stone-FistEdit

I did the majority of the table for Galmar Stone-Fist with the dialogue and the conditions required for him to say some of the dialogue listed there for the quest Season Unending. For the ones that have a specified condition as (for example where he would say: "By Talos, the stones on this one! You're in no position to dictate terms to us, Tullius!" only if Balgruuf were present), I've added a 'hover' to it, to make the layout more easy to read as I did with some of the dialogue for Ulfric Stormcloak during the same quest. I'm currently working on figuring out what would trigger the last piece of dialogue, but I hope this helps. Also, maybe you could request for an image or two of Galmar at the negotiations table to be added to his article as well perhaps? Either way, it's nearly complete :) -Helenaannevalentine(talk) 00:44, 30 September 2012 (GMT)

Krusty already requested the image for Galmar at the council table, because I recall snapping an image for it. ~ Psylocke 00:55, 30 September 2012 (GMT)
Ah okay, thank you Psylocke for clearing that up for me. I'm currently in the midst of finding out the condition for the last piece of dialogue, along with Vely's help of course :)
UPDATE: Finished the table with the conditions and their corresponding dialogue during that quest, hope this helps Krusty! -Helenaannevalentine(talk) 01:51, 30 September 2012 (GMT)
Looks perfect, Helena! Thank you so much for the help. Psy,sorry about that 'forgotten' image - if that ever happens again, just kick me! :D --Krusty (talk) 05:22, 30 September 2012 (GMT)

User:Krusty/SandboxEdit

Seems to be relatively finished, although some pictures would be nice. I know I requested one of him for the A Knife in the Dark quest page which has yet to be fulfilled, so that can also be added for his page, just to kinda break up the text. I don't know what other sorts of images we can get of him really though, as he is primarily a quest-giver and doesn't do much in-game sadly. I hope you like the layout of the page now, and once Eshe hopefully emails me sometime soon with the complete list of Vicente's dialogue from the game, I can go through and check that everything is correct and up to standard. :D -Helenaannevalentine(talk) 23:21, 2 October 2012 (GMT)

Reachwater Rock BoatEdit

You edited SR:Reachwater Rock with the message "deleted useless info about boat; mentioned on pages much closer to the boat".

I am not disputing your edit.

I do however want to ask which pages you are talking about? :-) I did a search for "rowing" "rowing boat" and even "abandoned" trying to find any mention of said boat with no success. Could you give me a couple of pointers?

Thx, CapnZapp (talk) 12:00, 4 October 2012 (GMT)

A quick bump. You said you know where this boat info can be found. I can't find it anywhere. I'll have to add it back in a condensed form if it isn't featured anywhere else, since in that case the boat info will effectively be lost, and while I agree its placement on Reachwater Rock was "useless" the info itself isn't (in fact I would never have found the boat contents unless I read that page). Thanks, CapnZapp (talk) 16:16, 10 October 2012 (GMT)
I can't find this anywhere either, CapnZapp. My first instinct was the SR:Unmarked Places page, because this would be perfect for that, but I see that hasn't launched yet. I'm not at home so I can't follow your directions to find the place myself, but I looked at the Skyrim map we have and checked the location pages that looked to be near the spot you were describing, and I don't see any mention there either. I suggest that you add it to Tovenam's sandbox (linked to above), and maybe we can speed along the launch of that page as well :). eshetalk 16:38, 10 October 2012 (GMT)
Sorry, I completely forgot about your question. Eshe is indeed correct – in time, it definitely belongs on some Unmarked Pages page; and it seems like I made a mistake and remembered the info found here. --Krusty (talk) 16:46, 10 October 2012 (GMT)

ImageEdit

Do you (or any image wiz) have time to take a look at File:SR-ingredient-Honeycomb.jpg, and comment on its quality compared to File:SR-ingredient-Ice_Wraith_Teeth.jpg? If the second one is significantly better, can you tell if it's because of the screenshot or because of the post-screenshot editing? Warning: I will ask anyone who answers for a little tutorial! --JR (talk) 04:33, 8 November 2012 (GMT)

Hey, JR - it looks slightly edited (what is the grey thingy?), but other than that - and the fact that it may be too small in size - I see no problems that can't be solved with a bit of Photoshop. --Krusty (talk) 08:58, 8 November 2012 (GMT)
I'll upload better images for both the teeth and the honeycomb. Also, from the images in this category, ingredient images should be 4:3 and out of the inventory screen. AFAIK, only item images are taken from the inventory screen. ~ Psylocke 10:40, 8 November 2012 (GMT)
Haha! The grey thingy was the beehive at the entrance to Honeystrand Cave, and intended to serve as a brilliant thematically-related background element. No one appreciates artistic geniuses until we're dead.
Psylocke, your image is strikingly better than mine. Thanks. Your statement that ingredient images "should be 4:3" is a policy, an opinion, or an assumption? If there's no established policy, does anyone reading this have input as to what it should be? The best official guidance I see for it is that "items should be 1:1" per image standards on the image help page, and an ingredient seems like an item to me. But most of them in the category are 4:3, and they seem to look a bit better as they fit on the current page layouts for ingredient pages (e.g., comparing this with this). However, sometimes policies and guidelines were made for reasons that we can't all see. An example is this page: Since the fish at the top is categorized as both an ingredient and as a creature, but the Alit (third image) is 1:1 as per the image standards on the help images page, we don't have as consistent-looking a page as we might like there. A trivial example, maybe, but there may be other cases where bigger problems are caused in this way. So, I think it's generally better to do some research, and if you discover something that's clearly policy or standard practice but not clear on the related help pages, you can contribute even more by documenting a policy/guideline or suggesting one. Same question for "should be out of the inventory screen". If you are presuming to issue guidance, I would appreciate it if you either ground it in a policy/guideline or frame it as an opinion. It carries less chance of sounding condescending, and is more likely to promote healthy collaboration, I think.
Eshe: Thanks for all the following around and cleaning up.--JR (talk) 16:19, 8 November 2012 (GMT)
Who me? Bah, I'm just the janitor :P. eshetalk 16:26, 8 November 2012 (GMT)
I just looked over the Help:Images page, and I'm not sure why ingredients and flora aren't included in the policy, because if you take a look at ingredient images for Oblivion, Shivering, Morrowind, and Category:Tribunal-Ingredient_Images, all the while we have been uploading mostly 4:3 images for ingredients. The few exceptions are creature images which are 1:1, but are also assigned the ingredients category. My guess is the people who revised the Help:Images page forgot about the ingredients part and left it out of the policy. I'll go ahead and add the aspect ratio standards for ingredients and flora as 4:3, since this is what was practised since Morrowind. ~ Psylocke 17:10, 8 November 2012 (GMT)
That seems reasonable to me. Given what you point out here, it's not a stretch to assume that there's an implied consensus. As you may have noticed, I followed you on the Help:Images page, did a bit of rearranging, and called attention to the changes in policy wording on the CP page, just to be on the "safe" side. Thanks. --JR (talk) 03:53, 9 November 2012 (GMT)

FloraEdit

Whilst going over the Flora pages to make some changes, I've noticed that in most of the descriptions, places like Cyrodiil and Morrowind aren't linked to there Lore pages, whilst in some, they are. What's the standing on this (if there is one) as I'd like to standardise all of the Flora descriptions. Thanks - Emoboy64 00:58, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

They should be linked. Usually one link per page is fine, but since the pages are split up into separate entries, a link per entry would be more useful. —Legoless (talk) 01:34, 26 November 2012 (GMT)
Thank you, I'll get to standardising them in the near future (if I'm not beaten to it) - Emoboy64 01:42, 26 November 2012 (GMT)
