Thank YouEdit

Thanks for the notice and the rework, Ratwar. Appreciate it.

Blood PriceEdit

If you do this quest while the Thieves guild quest Taking Care of Lex is open in your journal, you will be considered to be killing mages while theiving, and have to pay 1000 gold bounty per person killed.

I've moved this comment here for two reasons. First, from the construction set the only Thieves Guild quest that might conflict is Misdirection. If Caranya is killed while Misdirection is between stages 15 and 60, you will get a blood price. But I can't see any link to Taking Care of Lex. Second, I think comments about Blood Prices belong on the Thieves Guild quest page: if we're going to start documenting this, there are lists of 20+ people who are related to each TG quest. It makes much more sense to me to list them all on the TG quest page than to put snippets on each of 20 other pages (and if we were to start doing this consistently, readers would know to check each TG quest to know what possible blood price conflicts there are). --Nephele 02:16, 31 January 2007 (EST)

Just a note, when i did this quest in the mages guild, i picked the mages off 1 at a time, when i got to Caranya she didn't talk to me, when i talked to her it was like when we were back at the mages guild, i could talk about everything, but then when i exited the talk screen, she bacame hostile and attacked, just a heads up, i dont no if this happened to anyone else.

Odd StatsEdit

I used the quest item glitch to get the stats from the amulet. My magic was at 250 so it should've gone up to 380, but it went up to 408. Also, when I read the Path of Spirit portion of the Oghma Infinium it gave me an extra 20 points. My intelligence was maxed before I did all this so does anyone know why these boosts happened? 68.166.67.100 04:58, 8 December 2007 (EST)

The amulet boosts both your magicka and your intelligence. So the highest level amulet will always increase your magicka by 158 points (130 from the Fortify Magicka effect; 28 from the +14 Fortify Intelligence effect). And the Path of Spirit also boosts your intelligence and therefore always causes a 20 point boost to your magicka. It doesn't matter whether or not your intelligence was already at 100. as stated at Intelligence: "Increasing your intelligence past 100 using Fortify effects will continue to increase your maximum Magicka accordingly (intelligence × 2)." --NepheleTalk 02:51, 15 December 2007 (EST)

copyingEdit

when does Caranya's body reset? what i'm getting at is that it may be possible to use the risen flesh trick without the glitch if you kill her and complete the quest and then go back to ontus to use the trick. but only if you do it all before her body disappears.

I've tried it on my PS3 but in a different way. I left straight after the Necromancers amulet quest, beat the mages guild quest line, got the staff of Worms and re-animated her. I killed her and got the amulet. Not sure about risen flesh. — Unsigned comment by 170.185.128.19 (talk)

I just did this on the Xbox 360 using the Risen Flesh method above. I killed Caranya, looted the amulet, brought the amulet back to Arch-Mage Traven at the Arcane University, returned to Fort Ontus, cast Risen Flesh on Caranya's corpse, killed her (with the help of one of the mages that were fighting me), and looted the amulet again. It works well :) Chris uvic 18:51, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

possible bugEdit

i attacked caranya through the gate but when she was unconscious i ran round the other side when i re-entered the room the marker was pointing at the floor where she was knocked out. after 10 mins of searching i found her inside a pillar. talking to her caused her to jump out of the pillar and stand in the middle of the room again. has this happend to anyone else? Friendly Necromancer?Edit

I ran up to a Necromancer, and before he attacked me, I could talk to him. I bribed him, and then he went to kill his Necro friends. I know he's supposed to that after I bribed him, but why was I even able to bribe him? Is it a bug? — Unsigned comment by 85.144.249.144 (talk)

If your fame and/or personality is high (or other disposition-raising factors), it is possible that his disposition to you was raised automatically, in which you could talk and bribe him before he noticed you. Then he went and attacked his buddies cause you gave him all that gold. :) Vesna 16:22, 25 July 2008 (EDT)

Quest Item ?Edit

Is the Necromancer Amulet a Quest Item ? And If i use the Glitch to get a second Amulet after i finished the Quest, is this Amulet count as a Quest Item ?(Sry 4 bad english (i am german)) --87.165.71.93 15:41, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the Necromancer's Amulet is a quest item. Since that property counts for every instance of the amulet, it means that any copy of it is also a quest item. --Timenn-<talk> 13:34, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, Thank You very much. Is it worth to take another of the Amulet ? Since you can't get it out of your Inventory... I don't want to have a full Inventory with thousands of Quest Items. (Playing on Xbox360)--87.165.71.93 15:41, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
The question you ask is mostly subjective, so you have to decide for yourself. If you're a mage, the 130 magicka bonus might be useful. Wolok gro-Barok 15:46, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank You. Okay i'm gonna take one... (I'm no mage, but 130 magicka - wow.--87.165.71.93 16:10, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome, but I forgot to say that's only the case when you get the 25+ version. Below level 25, the magicka bonus will be lower. Wolok gro-Barok 16:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I am currently at level 20. But i make "Power-Leveling" what means, i make +5, +5, +1.--87.165.71.93 16:19, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
At level 20 you will get 110 magicka bonus. See the Necromancer's Amulet page for more information. Wolok gro-Barok 16:23, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Yup, i saw it, but thanks. On my Xbox 360 i got 270 Microsoft Points left (bought Fighter's Stronghold, Thieves Den, Vile Lair and Wizard's Tower). Now i would to buy one mini addon. Should i get Mehrunes Razor or Spell Tomes ? I Cant get both :(--87.165.71.93 16:28, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
This isn't the right place to ask this question. Actually, there is no right place for asking such subjective questions. You should refrain from asking these questions, as no-one can correctly answer them. My suggestion is you read both the plug-in pages and decide for yourself. Wolok gro-Barok 17:05, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay Thanks. I read the Pages 100 times but i can't decide... So maybe you can give me a hint ? Or you can delete this realy long question ^.^--87.165.71.93 17:18, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually, you are wrong... it stops being a quest item after you give it back to Traven. I tested it on 360. It weighs .4 lbs (or whatever measurement they use in Oblivion) 68.113.150.31 21:40, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Are you sure? The Amulet (and its copies) are quest items, and it seems doubtful that the script to disable the Amulet would also remove its essential-ness. --Darth NANAME 22:50, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
He's sure. The amulet is also never truly disabled. The copy you have is removed, a new one is placed into the Archmage's Night Stand, and stage 100 of the quest removes the quest item flags from all versions of the amulet. Arthmoor 02:13, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Actually the amulet is removed from the game when you talk to Traven. It's the UOP that causes a copy to be added to the night stand. rpeh •TCE 07:00, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

BugEdit

when looking down on her from above, there are two locked doors that you can pick instead of going all the way through the dungeon. however, the rest of the doors open from the other side, so you are stuck unless you do some complex acrobatics. — Unsigned comment by 195.92.67.66 (talk) on 26 August 2009

One of the gates inside the room has a lever right next to it, so there's no need for acrobatics to get out...though you do have to go through the entire dungeon in order to do so, making the pickable gates much less useful. —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:20, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

diolougeEdit

Caranya doesn't just say that she'll kill you. she tries to get you to join her first. I don't know what exactly it is she says, but this should be added.— Unsigned comment by Arch-Mage Matt (talkcontribs) at 18:34 on 13 October 2009

The exact dialogue can be found on her page. And I agree. A small mention will do. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 19:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Headings?Edit

Shouldn't the headings be capitalized like this? I think it should be Good or Bad Girl? instead of Good or bad girl? and Inside the Fort instead of Inside the fort. Bryanmichael11 04:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

You can capitalize them if you want, it doesn't really affect the article :). --MC S'drassa T2M 04:17, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks. Bryanmichael11 22:58, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

CrashEdit

I get a crash once I've got the amulet from her corpse. The game runs for a few seconds, the quest notification pops up, and right after that it crashes. Anyone else experienced this / have any tips? Thanks! -- sprite

i was getting the same crash. i had to go out of the ruins and type setstage MG16Amulet 30 in the console for it to work.
anytime that flag is changed inside the ruins caused a crash, but once outside it worked just fine. the ruins become inaccessible afterwards though, they'll crash as soon as you enter, so you'll need to give yourself the amulet too using player.additem 0007BE2B 1.

Broken Door?Edit

I cannot enter the door into Fort Ontus; instead I walk through the entrance (and the marker). It appears to be glitched as I walk through the door and hit the wall behind it. This is on the PS3 Game of the Year edition of TESIV. Any possible way to fix this without having the PC's console?— Unsigned comment by 134.126.204.96 (talk) at 02:26 on 10 April 2010

edit: just reloaded the game, do the same if you happen to run into this problem.

necromancer's amuletEdit

Ok heres something weird, im going the quest to get the necro amulet, but i'm lazy and used the cheat to just pop up there. I find her and talk then we go into combat and I cut her head off with the "deadly reflex mod." looked at both the body and the disembodied head, both contained the amulet. I got the quest pop up and cheated to go back to Traven. I talk to him bout the amulet but he says that I have to go get it. I got 2 of them can you not see that!?!? So what do I do now? I tried going back and forth (without cheating) and it still doesen't help. Now her body is gone. Did anyone have this problem before?

Well, when you use cheats and mods, don't expect that nothing bad will happen. I think he only checks if there is one amulet in your inventory.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:22, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
The Console command player.removeitem 0007BE2B 1 might work. rpeh •TCE 08:44, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

On Recent EditsEdit

WARNING!: If you copy the amulet before returning to Traven, it WILL prevent you from completing the quest: when you talk to Traven again, he will just ask if you have talked to Caranya. Making it impossible for you to finish the quest line.

This comment was moved from the Quick Walkthrough because the objective of the Quick Walkthrough is to highlight the important events of the quest.

If you copy the amulet before returning to Traven, it WILL prevent you from completing the quest: when you talk to Traven again, he will just ask if you have talked to Caranya.

This comment was moved from the Bugs section because it is not a bug induced by normal gameplay. The warnings are also already present on this page, so a simple reference from the Notes page would do. Does everyone agree with this method? Vesna 01:37, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

I think it's already referenced from there. Of course it says the artifact page which is wrong but I think the link is to the right place.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 15:48, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Well I say "cat" you say "evil furry thing". The page meant is the item page not Lore:Artifacts.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 15:53, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Moved notesEdit

  • The Necromancer's Amulet disappears once Traven takes it; it is removed from the game. If you wish to keep the amulet, given that it is one of the most powerful amulets in the game at high levels, one option is to not complete the Mages Guild questline. Other options for how to obtain the amulet are discussed on the artifact's page.
    • Some of these methods will prevent you from finishing this quest, so exercise caution.
  • A further strategy for dealing with Caranya is to attack before talking to her. She is considered "essential" so you will only be able to knock her unconscious. When she wakes up, begin the fight. As she was previously knocked out, her health will be very low.
  • Attacking the mages before talking to Caranya can make the quest easier. However, if you kill one of the mages it can count as a murder; this can be avoided by yielding once their health is low, ending the fight. Alternatively, you can walk into them, nudging them into the dart trap in one of the main rooms. This is time-consuming but will not count as murder.

I've been pruning the notes for the quest pages. Feel free to re-add these with just reasoning. --AKB Talk 16:00, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Hint on Killing CaranyaEdit

If you attack her first, BEFORE talking to her, she will not be killed, because she is a Quest NPC, but become unconsous. While on the floor, after her health has regenerated abit, you can innitiate the convosation with her regarding the amulet. When it comes to the fight, she will be at half health and on the ground, (until she gets up) This should make her a much easier kill (Verfify Needed)-unknown User — Unsigned comment by 81.154.10.118 (talk) at 20:30 on 14 May 2011

Its mentioned somewhere on the correct page. EDIT: As it turns out, it mentions it above, it was a note removed earlier.--Catmaniac66 22:38, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

BugsEdit

"The Necromancer's Amulet is technically leveled. However, Caranya is always level 30 and the amulet takes its cue from her statistics rather than yours. Therefore, you will always receive the same reward (a level 25+ Amulet) no matter when you complete the quest."

Always? That's interesting, I did the quest when I was lvl 21 and I've received 20-24 version of it. I do not have any modes which would change the quest itself or the item. I can post in-game screenshot of what I've found on her body as a proof. --Arkhon 22:13, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid you're wrong. This has been extensively checked, so you must have a mod installed that's affecting your item drop. rpeh •TCE 22:17, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, most probably [1]... --Arkhon 22:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah that one would do it :) rpeh •TCE 22:24, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Skull of Corruption glitchEdit

If you get the Necromancer Amulet using Skull of Corruption glitch. Caranya is back to the Archmage's Tower Council Chamber and acting like usual. Guyde (talk) 07:18, 5 June 2014 (GMT)

Who did you use the Skull on to perform the duplication? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 10:08, 5 June 2014 (GMT)
Caranya, For complete the quest without her death. Guyde (talk) 12:24, 6 June 2014 (GMT)
This is a forced bug then, because you're supposed to kill her. It's a nice workaround for people who prefer to keep characters alive but sometimes that causes more problems because following quests may require her death to proceed. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:50, 6 June 2014 (GMT)
