The Twin Lamps was an underground secret society of abolitionists in Morrowind dedicated to rescuing and aiding escaped slaves. The group helped free slaves, primarily Argonians and Khajiit, and transported them out of Morrowind to safety.[1] They commonly used the phrase: "Have you seen the Twin Lamps?" to recognize fellow members, the answer required being: "They light the way to freedom."[2]
HistoryEdit
The group derives its name from the practice of hanging two lanterns in the window of a farm to mark it as a safe house for those fleeing slavery. This tradition can be traced back to the Interregnum of the Second Era.[3]
By the late Third Era, the group was headed by Ilmeni Dren, the daughter of Duke Vedam Dren. They used the Argonian Mission in Ebonheart as a base of operations on Vvardenfell. Unsurprisingly given the group's activities, the Twin Lamps had a rivalry at that time with House Telvanni.[4] In 3E 427, Gentleman Jim Stacey requested an adventurer to send a slaver's ring to Ilmeni Dren of the Twin Lamps in the name of Bal Molagmer as a symbol of good faith and in hopes she would make a good use of it. It is unclear whether the ring was ultimately delivered or not.[5][6][7]
