Lyris Titanborn was a Nord with giant ancestry[1][2] and the personal bodyguard of Emperor Varen Aquilarios. She easily towers over other members of her race and dwarfs even the tallest race in Tamriel, the High Elves.
Lyris was born to Alyr Golden-Hair and the giant-blooded Nord, Gjalder. Her mother died during childbirth, leaving her father to raise his considerably large infant daughter alone.[3] At the age of fifteen, she ran away from home and joined the Imperial Legion. She faced endless ridicule from her peers due to her large stature.[3][4] She was hated and feared by some, but she endured, and eventually met Varen Aquilarios.[3] She subsequently aided him in his revolution, and joined him, Mannimarco, Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan as one of the Five Companions in search of the Amulet of Kings.[3]
She was imprisoned in Coldharbour following the calamity known as the Soulburst. With Varen's disappearance during the event, she and Sai Sahan were suspected of murdering him and stealing the Amulet of Kings.[5] She and Sai had romantic feelings for one another, with Sai giving her the nickname "Snow Lily".[6]
In Coldharbour, she led the Soul Shriven in an uprising against their captors, and together with the Vestige, they fought their way to save Lyris' friend and ally, the Prophet. She offered herself in place of the Prophet to enable him and the Vestige escape from the realm.[7] They eventually returned to save her, and the three banded together in a quest to save Tamriel from the invasion of Molag Bal.[4][8]
When the time came to power the Amulet of Kings, Lyris offered to sacrifice herself for the ritual. It is unknown whether she was chosen, but if she had died, she woke up in a cold foggy location outside of Tamriel (she also jokingly said she was sent back to Coldharbour, and had to break out of the realm once again). She went inside the warm warrior-filled longhouse that she believed was the Hall of Valor in Sovngarde, staying there for an unknown amount of time, before waking up one day and finding herself in Skyrim.[9] After Molag Bal's defeat, Lyris briefly stayed at the Abbey of Blades to help Sai Sahan rebuild it. Sai hoped she would join him in his efforts to reclaim the wisdom of the Dragonguard, but Lyris felt another calling pull her away, back to Skyrim.[6] Lyris worked as an agent for King Jorunn, helping to investigate the vampiric threat of the Icereach Coven and their associates in the west.[10]
NotesEdit
- She penned the first three volumes of Chronicles of the Five Companions, which details the history of the group.
- Her two-handed axe is known as the Great Axe of the Titanborn. Runes etched along the blade depict the Titanborn Clan's legacy. By the time it was held by Lyris, her father's deeds were the last ones engraved on it.[11]
