Bloodrun Cave is a natural cave network found in Blackwood, on the steep southern banks of the Panther River in Cyrodiil.[1] It is notable for the ancient Dark Brotherhood ruins found within its interior, including a sanctuary and tombs for fallen assassins.[2]

HistoryEdit

Like all natural caves, these tunnels once served as the capillaries of Nirn, pulsing with the divine essence of the Aedra.[3] The cave possesses black rock walls and extensive stalagma.[2]

Bloodrun Cave was once used as an honorable tomb for fallen members of the Dark Brotherhood, including several well-respected Shadowscales.[4] The Dark Brotherhood also maintained a sanctuary deep within the cave.[5]

Circa 2E 582, the Argonian necromancer Tumma-Maxath invaded the cave in order to raise the bodies of the dead entombed there. In particular, he sought out the bodies of several renowned Shadowscales in order to heighten his own necromantic power.[6] An Argonian nisswo named Mim-Jasa was sent to the cave by the Sithis-worshipping Clutch of Nisswo to perform the last rites for several of these Shadowscales, but was chased away by Tumma-Maxath's undead minions. Mim-Jasa enlisted the aid of the Vestige in foiling the necromancer's plans by burning the mortal remains of these assassins and killing Tumma-Maxath.[4] The Vestige also destroyed several ancient caches within the cave which contained old information about the Morag Tong; the information contained in these documents was of a sensitive nature, and the Dunmer politician Faves Anthones put out a contract to have the documents destroyed.[7]

That same year, a group of Brotherhood assassins led by Elam Drals were sent to re-establish the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary within Bloodrun Cave. However, the Brotherhood were then framed for the murder of several Elder Councilors in Leyawiin by the Order of the Waking Flame. The Vestige and Eveli Sharp-Arrow entered the sanctuary as agents of Leyawiin and spoke with Elam Drals, who confirmed that the Brotherhood was not behind these assassinations. However, the Waking Flame chose this moment to the sanctuary, teleporting inside using Daedric portal magic. The group managed to escape with their lives, but the attack resulted in the deaths of many Dark Brothers at the hands of the cultists.[8] Elam Drals later helped defend the Ambitions at Fort Redmane in order to exact his revenge on the Waking Flame for this attack.[9]

By 3E 433, Bloodrun Cave had been taken over by a group of necromancers and their undead minions, as had the nearby Kindred Cave located right across the river.[1][10]
