Skyrim memesEdit

Not sure that these count as historical references or easter eggs, because they're really more meta/game mechanics than ES history, but we have:

• Prized Chicken (fills a lane with Angry Villagers) - reference to how attacking livestock in Skyrim would turn a whole town against you
• Arrow in the Knee & Camlorn Hero (dialogue when summoned is "I used to be an adventurer like you.")

These would not be being referenced in the game if they had not become memes. But our note does say "to something outside the ES games", which strictly speaking these are about something from Skyrim. But until we have a Legends Historical References page this is the only page they could go. Silence is Golden^{Break the Silence} 16:36, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

While I agree that the guidelines say "to something outside the ES games" and thus a historical reference page would be more suitable, such a page for historical references would just not be feasible (for the time being). More than half of all cards are references to older games and places. I think the three cards Fio mentioned are better contenders for the Cultural references section, because their references did become quite large memes even outside of ES. Also, I always had the feeling that the historical reference pages are reserved for more lore related references than game mechanics (but maybe I am mistaken about that).--Ilaro (talk) 17:00, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

With regards to the "Historical References" bit ... just about EVERY card is a historical reference to the series. That's kinda the whole point. Timeoin (talk) 17:32, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

A bit belated response, but I think "cultural references" would suit these due to the memetic status of them: like Ilaro said the "historical references" is more about the game itself/lore whereas these are specific memes. A reference in the portuguese versionEdit

If the game language is set to portuguese, after you win a fight in the arena there is a chance of the announcer saying the phrase "Ao vencedor, as batatas" (to the winner, the potatoes), which is a reference to the brazilian book Quincas Borbas written by Machado de Assis. — Unsigned comment by 179.219.196.251 (talk) at 02:48 on 9 April 2018

The pen is mightier than the swordEdit

Poetic Armiger says a variant of this sentence when attacking (you can listen to it on its page). This seems to be a clear reference to the quote from Edward Bulwer-Lytton? --Ilaro (talk) 18:59, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Hash-tag 'Squad Goals'Edit

As much as it pains me to type all this; I believe Snowhawk Detachment's ability Squad Goals is a reference to the memetic 'hash-tag' most commonly found on the social medium platform owned by Face-book called Insta-gram. This 'hash-tag' is used in Face-Book's target market for the 'Insta-Gram' platform to refer to some form of collective activity; much as Snowhawk Detachment's thematic details are meant to convey. I believe Snowhawk Detachment to be symptomatic of the popularity of the Insta-Gram 'hash-tag' and as such is an easter egg. Fullerton ﴾_talk﴿ 11:34, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Santa ClausEdit

Greybeard Mentor says "ho ho ho" as its summon audio now, and a new attacking audio of sleigh bells and "you're on my list"—a reference to the popular concept of the "naughty and nice" list—make clear that this is a reference to the famous Santa Claus figure. — J. ShadowstepEdit

I realise this is a reference to earlier games, however there is currently no page for that, but I believe this is a subtle nod to an earlier game. Found in the solo Arena, Shadowstep is one of the possible Arena titles choosable for the Grand Champion match. The title that legends adds for this character, "the victorious" further adds to this, IMHO. Timeoin (talk) 06:02, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

I think this can just be expanded to the Arena being a reference to Oblivion's Arena. It uses the same ranks, has a similar-sounding announcer, and shares titles according to this. —Dillonn241 (talk) 06:06, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Twelfth NightEdit

Sheogorath in Chaos Arena says "Some are born mad, some achieve madness, and some have madness thrust upon them". This, to me, is a fairly obvious reference to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, wherein a character says the same but of greatness rather than madness. — J. J.
