Arvil Bren's Journal

I started reading Arvil Bren's Journal by Mythman5. So far I have read to the end of Day Two. From what I have read so far, I assume this tale to be a fairly detailed walkthrough of Morrowind, which, to be honest, I haven't played yet. I fear that the whole of this tale should be prefixed with a spoiler alert flag. For now I will not be reading any further, until I have played Morrowind.

Of course, that is what happens when you turn to the General:Fanfiction page on the wiki and scroll down to the first title, without noticing the heading above it for Morrowind Fan Fiction. I think I will skip ahead to the Skyrim Fan Fiction section and start reading from there instead.

I did enjoy what I had read of Arvil Bren's Journal, but it reminded me to be wary of releasing too many spoilers in my own fan fiction. I want my writing to be set within Tamriel and to reference places and people that the player character meets along the way, but to do so in such a way that it doesn't spoil anyone else's play through of the game. I want my own writings to make people think, "Yes, I met that person while I was adventuring in Tamriel. Where were they then? What were they doing? Why are they here now? Would this be realistic?" My own writings will take a fairly static game world and bring life to it. For instance, anyone who has played Skyrim will know that if you enter Riverwood, at any time of the year, you are likely to encounter Hilde, the mother of Sven the bard. But really, would she spend every day of her life in Riverwood? Doesn't she need to go to Whiterun every now and then for supplies? As she spends a lot of time tanning hides outside her home, could she also be found amongst a hunting party on the shores of Lake Ilinalta, hunting game? If not, how does she get her raw hides? Who sells them to her? How do they obtain them? Is it a fair trade, or is she being ripped off? And what does she do with all that tanned hide, anyway? My fan fiction will not be about Hilde at all, but I like to expand on the characters I use in my tales, drawing from what is already established in Lore and fleshing it out a bit. I try to be realistic, while adhering to the Lore as much as possible.
