Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Go to Four Skull Lookout and acquire the Crusader's armor.
  2. Equip any piece of the armor.
  3. If required, pray at each of the nine shrines.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Start the quest by equipping any piece of Crusader's armor, found at Four Skull Lookout, between Karthwasten and Karthspire. If your Infamy (see notes) is higher than 15, or if it increases while any of the Crusader's items are equipped, this quest will be started with the following message: "Your crimes have made you unfit to wield the Crusader's Relics. Make the pilgrimage to repent your sins and once again seek the favor of the gods."

Once the quest has started, you will be required to cleanse your soul by visiting the various shrines, similar to the Oblivion quest.

All items may be equipped and unequipped freely, regardless of your Infamy. However, the active effect 'Relics of the Crusader' will impose Health and Stamina 300 regeneration penalties and Carry Weight is reduced by 100 while you are 'unfit'.

NotesEdit

  • Infamy is the total of your: Murders + Assaults + Pockets Picked + Horses Stolen + Items Stolen + Trespasses + Locks picked + Jail Escapes.
  • Trespasses, Assaults, and Locks Picked, are the main ways players can quickly become frustrated by the armor, due to being put into situations that are not usually considered morally wrong.

Examples include:

-Initiating combat, or using a negative spell effect against a target who has not detected you, or is actively chasing you but has not hit you yet, even if they are actively committing a crime like attacking civilians (The entry sequence in Markarth is an example, as are dragon attacks.)

-Your follower/summon/horse doing the above listed "crime" (it will count towards you.)

-Using dragonrend on a target that has not attacked you yet. (including Alduin the World-Eater)

-Lockpicking a chest/door in a dungeon or in any other context.

-Attacking a resting draugr.

-"Trespassing" in Hod's home when its open, much like the Dragonsreach Jarl's Quarters. (is not usually counted as trespassing once you gain affinity with the related owners)

-Trespassing in the Thalmor embassy.

-Killing Astrid when she abducts you.

-Cannibalism/feeding as a vampire (this one actually makes sense but may not always be considered as most players would not think it would count as assault)

  • Some actions notably do not increase these infamy values like one might expect. These can be helpful for players that are committed to using this armor long term.

Examples include:

-The Tower Stone ability, or Fenrik's Welcome to unlock chests and doors.

-Melee Killcams will not count as assaults (but will count as murder if the target was innocent)

-Killing Grelod the Kind is not murder or assault if killed with a melee killcam.

-Transforming into a werewolf/vampire lord, because transformations add to a bounty directly rather than being counted as a crime in the statistics page (though feeding usually counts as assault.)

-Other actions that add a bounty but change nothing else in the crime statistics page.

  • The armor will not always start the Pilgrims Path quest immediately when you reach your 15 infamy limit, though will almost always update once you equip/re-equip a new piece of armor. This can make the armor seem even more unfair and arbitrary.
  • If you get too close to a shrine, the regular effect may be triggered and your progress won't update. If this happens, step back from the shrine a little and try again.

BugsEdit

  • The quest can restart while it is already in progress if your Infamy increases. This will cause all of your current shrine progress to reset, but those shrines will no longer be displayed as quest targets. ?
    •   In the Console, use the setstage X where X is the index of the location, as displayed in the table, above.
  • The quest can clear the map while it is in progress. This will retain your current shrine progress, but other shrines will no longer be displayed as quest targets. ?
  • The quest can restart while it is already in progress without an increase in infamy. This will cause all of your current shrine progress to reset. ?
  • Worshipping at the Shrine of Mara may not register, requiring you to use the console to complete the quest. ?
  • The Shrine of Dibella incorrectly gives the Blessing of Akatosh.
    Mod Notes: POIReach16, ccMTYSSE001_ShrineActivator doesn't have the custom properties set on the TempleBlessingScript.
  • The quest will trigger if anything causes a criminal act to be registered, even other bugs. For example, attacking a sleeping Draugr will erroneously incur an assault bounty, triggering the quest when any relic is re-equipped.
  • The quest will trigger even while doing a quest objective that requires a crime.
  • The quest can apparently restart even after completion, even if you have not gained any infamy since completing it, even if all you do is wield one of the weapons to try and put it on a weapon rack.

Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ccMTYSSE001_Quest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest ccMTYSSE001_Quest.
