Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Upon entering Selene's Web, you will find a group of Mages Guild members hanging around the entrance.
- Warlock Carindon : "I understand your concerns but think of the potential rewards. These woods have long been rumored to house a powerful forest spirit."
- Apprentice Patraud : "There is something off about these Bosmer. Something wild. Feral. Are you sure they just won't attack us?"
- Journeyman Mirondil : "I agree with the Apprentice. How are we to get past these Bosmer if they try to stop us?"
- Warlock Carindon : "We have visitors it seems. Perhaps they can be of assistance."
You can then speak with Warlock Carindon. He will explain that they are searching for a forest spirit named Selene, and requests that your group offer protection from the local Bosmer tribe in case things go awry. Following this, you will be ordered to accompany Apprentice Patraud in attempting to make contact with the local Bosmer. The hostile Bosmer will quickly kill Patraud and attack.
Speak with Carindon again, who will insist that the group presses on, this time with Evoker Ahainar-jo attempting to communicate with the locals. Past a group of Bosmer and their wolves is a giant spider, surrounded by more Bosmer. Upon approaching the leader of the band of Bosmer, Treethane Kerninn, is given an order as the spider flees by climbing a thread of spidersilk stretching up to the trees above.
- Selene: "Kill them."
- Evoker Ahainar-jo: "What in Oblivion is that?"
- Treethane Kerninn: "Yes mistress."
You are left to fight the Bosmer and their leader, but at the cost of Ahainar-jo. Carindon will then arrive with news.
- Warlock Carindon: "So they killed Ahainar-jo? His death will not be a hollow one. We've managed to capture a prisoner."
Speaking to him, he will explain that they need to be more careful, and that the forest spirit is likely nearby. The mages then attempt to coerce their prisoner into giving up information.
- Journeyman Draval: "We have a prisoner. Perhaps he can shed some light on where we can find this forest spirit."
- Warlock Carindon: "Very well, let's see what he has to tell us."
- Evoker Neshtat: "On your feet friend. You're going to tell us all about this forest."
- Selene's Dagger: "I've already told you. The forest is all we live for. You are no threat to me."
- Evoker Neshtat: "We shall see."
- <Neshtat then hits him with a spell which sends the Dagger to the ground writhing in pain.>
- Selene's Dagger: "Ahhh …."
- Evoker Neshtat: "What do you have to say now?"
- Selene's Dagger: "Nothing to you, whorespawn. Your kind will never rule the forest, not as long as Selene is its guardian."
- Evoker Neshtat: "We'll see about that little one."
She then could say one of many things, with a small chance of dialogue repeating immediately after. Segments include:

- Selene's Dagger: "It hurts! It hurts!"
- <She blasts the Bosmer with magic.>
- Evoker Neshtat: "This will end when you tell us what we want to know."
- Selene's Dagger: "Ahhhh!"
- <She blasts the Bosmer with magic.>
- Evoker Neshtat: "Who are you working for? Why attack us?"
- Selene's Dagger: "Death to you!"

- Evoker Neshtat: "Where is the forest spirit?"
- Selene's Dagger: "No! Gah!"
This continues indefinitely. Moving further into the forest, head northwest until you come to a cliff, and jump over into a pool of water. Avoid the various traps lying about along the short walk to the clearing.
- Longclaw: "Selene promised Longclaw would hunt tonight. And here you are.
The Forest Mother was right again. See how she takes care of us, my daughters?"' - Longclaw: "Yet this one wonders—what kind of prey walks so willingly into the hunter's lair?"'
- Longclaw: "Ah well. We're not picky, are we girls? Fresh meat is good meat, no?
Let's find out how this meat tastes!"'
The Khajiiti hunter Longclaw will appear in the tree above, his four Senche-Tigers appearing below. They will attack, and once all four are dead they will be resurrected as Senche Spirits by Selene.
- Longclaw: "You may have taken their lives, but Longclaws's daughters are not gone."
- Longclaw: "Selene blessed them with her gift—the gift of spirit life. See their hunt begin anew!"
Longclaw will then leap down to fight with them. The spirits respawn indefinitely, so it's best to ignore them and focus on defeating Longclaw.
Once defeated, Journeyman Mirondil will appear from a portal with news. The captured Bosmer gave them a little information about Selene and Mirondil wishes to join you as you explore further while searching for Selene, and advises caution as you journey deeper into the forest. You can pass through some roots forming a barrier to the north of Longclaw's resting place, fighting through spiders and hoarvors as well as Bosmer. At the end of the passage is a small clearing, leading to a giant horvoar named Queen Aklayah guarding a barrier of vines and flowers. She is easy to defeat, and as soon as she is dead a portal opens, letting through the remaining members of the expedition.

- Evoker Neshtat: "The fauna is fascinating in here. It's infused with magic."
- Conjurer Hrolda: "This magic is incredibly potent. We may need to combine our efforts to open this door."
- Journeyman Draval: "I have a bad feeling about this. We can still turn back. We have our lives to think about."
- Warlock Carindon: "Nonsense, Draval. Think of all the terrifyingly beautiful things we've seen here. I could release an entire codex from today's findings alone."
Speaking to Carindon, he says the area is saturated with magic and that he believes Selene's Sanctum is beyond the vines. Unfortunately, the barricade is more than physical, and is also protected by a magical barrier. He asks you to see if there is another way through. You will have to continue on without the mages as they focus on bringing down the barrier. Head south, through more hostile wildlife, until you reach another clearing. A massive bear called Foulhide sleeps in the middle, surrounded by Bosmer. The giant spider from before stands in front of Foulhide.
- Selene: "Deal with them, I am nearly finished."
- Selene's Thundermaul: "Yes, mistress."
The spider again flees by climbing her own spidersilk, and the Bosmer attack. To achieve your goal of finding another entrance, you will need to fight Foulhide. Selene's Roses will continuously sprout out of the ground during the fight, although Foulhide's charging attack will help keep them at bay. Once the great bear is felled, a heavily injured Journeyman Draval will limp up to you, speaking hoarsely.
- Journeyman Draval: "You need to help them—she's slaughtering us!"
- Journeyman Draval: "Quickly, return to the barrier!"
He will then collapse, dead.
Backtrack to the barrier, where you will be ambushed by Bosmer. A mage named Mennir Many-Legs stands in the clearing, and must be defeated.
- Mennir Many-Legs: "Selene protects! Selene destroys! Selene will rule all!"
During the fight, she continuously summons spider spirits, but they pose little threat.
Once she is dead, head over to an injured Warlock Carindon, sitting beside the barrier. The green miasma that previously surrounded it has been dispelled. The mage reveals that they were attacked by everything at Selene's command as soon as the barrier was opened. He is callous about the loss of life, speaking as if the loss of almost the entire expedition was worth the chance to study a changeling like Selene. If you have Persuasive Will, he will also reveal that his superiors forbade any mage interfere with her due to the risks, but he ignored their decision.
Enter Selene's Sanctum, and fight your way through the hordes of beasts and Bosmer towards the giant web in the center. The giant spider–Selene–will drop down from a thread to face you. You will have to fight her until she reaches 60% health, at which point she heads to the middle, gathers her threads, and breaks the web so both of you go tumbling down to the forest floor. Continue attacking her, and at around 15% she will appear to keel over, dead. But with a burst of smoke, she transforms into a Bosmer-like spellcaster, crying out for her followers to emerge and attack you.

Once she is felled, her soul appears and has a friendly chat with Carindon.
- Selene: "You mages are as treasonous as your scent is foul. We had an agreement."
- Warlock Carindon: "You made a deal with the Guild. Not with me.
Your soul will make me one of the most powerful mages in the Guild." - Warlock Carindon: "I have waited long for this."
- Selene: "I have done nothing to your kind, and yet you come into my home, kill my thrall.
You had best live the rest of your life looking over your shoulder. My kind have ways of returning to finish our business." - Warlock Carindon: "We shall see, my pet."
- Selene: "No! Ahhhhh!"
And with a final cry, Carindon traps her soul and she disappears.
Speak with Carindon to receive your reward. He congratulates the expedition on a job well done, despite the fact that everyone else died because he went against guild orders without telling any of the other expedition members. He promises to give honorable mentions to his fallen colleagues in the next codex he writes. He rewards you with Selene's Battle Greaves, a skill point, and a large sum of gold.
The quest is now complete, but you can speak to him further if you wish.
