Herald of the Tome is one of three class skill lines available to Arcanists. Abilities in this line focus on dealing damage. Known abilities in this skill are listed below.

The Herald of the Tome skill line is immediately available to all Arcanists, and is leveled up by earning experience while Herald of the Tome skills are slotted. Skills include:

  • The numbers displayed here are the base values for the skills. Magicka/Stamina Cost is based on a character of Level 50  160. Damage values are based on Max Magicka/Stamina 12000, Max Health 16000, and Weapon/Spell Damage 1000. The actual numbers you see in the game may depend on a variety of factors, including skill line rank, your equipped weapons and armor, other skills, enchantments, etc. As such, they should only be used as a comparative reference.

Tear open the fabric of the Aurbis to summon a scion of Hermaeus Mora. This being casts forth a beam that rends asunder reality for 6 seconds and deals [2952 / 2984 / 3016 / 3049] Magic Damage to enemies within 5 meters every 0.5 seconds. The scion's beam can be repositioned by recasting The Unblinking Eye.
     The Tide King's Gaze Beam duration is increased, automatically follows the initial target, and searches for new targets if it is slain.
Duration: 8 seconds, Target: Enemy.
Tear open the fabric of the Aurbis to summon a scion of Hermaeus Mora. This being casts forth a beam that rends asunder reality for 8 seconds that deals [3048 / 3082 / 3115 / 3148] Magic Damage to enemies within 5 meters every 0.5 seconds. The scion's beam automatically follows the initial target, and hunts for a new one within 8 meters if it is slain.
   The Languid Eye Also applies a snare to enemies hit and damage increases over time.
Tear open the fabric of the Aurbis to summon a scion of Hermaeus Mora. This being casts forth a beam that rends asunder reality for 6 seconds that deals 3048 Magic Damage to enemies within 5 meters every 0.5 seconds and snares them by [35 / 40 / 45 / 50]% for 3 seconds. Every 0.5 seconds, the beam's damage increases by 7%. The scion's beam can be repositioned by recasting The Languid Eye.

     Writhing Runeblades Has increased Critical Chance for each active Crux.
Cost Determined by Highest Max Resource Craft a series of Apocryphal runes before launching them at a foe, dealing [1906 / 1926 / 1948 / 1969] Magic Damage three times and generating Crux. This ability gains between 1095 and 2191 Weapon Critical and Spell Critical rating and deals 3% increased damage for each active Crux when cast.
   Escalating Runeblades Deals increased damage and the last rune deals damage in an area.
Cost Determined by Highest Max Resource Craft a series of Apocryphal runes before launching them at a foe, dealing 1906 Magic Damage, 2094 Magic Damage, and [2306 / 2374 / 2443 / 2513] Magic Damage and generating Crux. The last rune explodes, dealing damage to all enemies within 8 meters of the target. This ability deals 3% increased damage for each active Crux when cast.
   Fatecarver 4 Area 22 meters 450 Magicka / 1s
Cost Determined by Highest Max Resource Harness pure knowledge into a beam of energy that scars the world in front of you. Channel the beam for up to 4 seconds, dealing [2174 / 2197 / 2222 / 2246] Magic Damage every 0.3 seconds. Casting Fatecarver consumes all Crux and increases damage done by 33% per Crux spent.
     Exhausting Fatecarver Applies a snare to damaged enemies. Consuming Crux also increases the duration and snare strength.
Cost Determined by Highest Max Resource Harness pure knowledge into a beam of energy that scars the world in front of you. Channel the beam for up to 4 seconds, dealing 2243 Magic Damage every 0.3 seconds and snaring enemies hit by [12 / 13 / 14 / 15]%. Casting Exhausting Fatecarver consumes all Crux and increases damage done by 33%, duration by 0.3 seconds, and snare by [12 / 13 / 14 / 15]% per Crux spent.
   Pragmatic Fatecarver Gain a damage shield while channeling and immunity to interrupts while the shield is active. Consuming Crux also reduces the cost.
Cost Determined by Highest Max Resource Harness pure knowledge into a beam of energy that scars the world in front of you. Channel the beam for up to 4 seconds, dealing 2243 Magic Damage every 0.3 seconds. While channeling, you also gain a damage shield that absorbs up to 8574 damage and grants interrupt immunity. Casting Pragmatic Fatecarver consumes all Crux and increases damage done by 33%, and decreases cost by [13 / 14 / 15 / 16]% per Crux spent.
   Abyssal Impact 20 0.3 seconds Area 15 meters 2984 Stamina
Infuse your arm with abyssal magic to form tentacles that lash out at your foes, dealing 5303 Physical Damage. Enemies are immobilized for 3 seconds and marked with Abyssal Ink for [17 / 18 / 19 / 20] seconds. You deal 5% increased damage to enemies drenched in Abyssal Ink.
     Cephaliarch's Flail Generates Crux. Heals you if an enemy is damaged.
Infuse your arm with abyssal magic to form tentacles that lash out at your foes dealing 5303 Physical Damage and generating Crux. Enemies are immobilized for 3 seconds and marked with Abyssal Ink for 20 seconds. If an enemy is hit, you for heal for [2650 / 2679 / 2710 / 2737] Health, once per cast. You deal 5% increased damage to enemies drenched in Abyssal Ink.
   Tentacular Dread Converts into a Magicka ability and deals Frost Damage. Consume Crux to increase the base damage and Abyssal Ink strength.
Cost: 3510 Magicka.
Infuse your arm with abyssal magic to form tentacles that lash out at your foes, dealing [5303 / 5363 / 5420 / 5479] Frost Damage. Enemies are immobilized for 3 seconds and marked with Abyssal Ink for 20 seconds. You deal 5% increased damage to enemies drenched in Abyssal Ink. Consume all Crux and increase Tentacular Dread damage by 33% and damage to foes drenched in Abyssal Ink by 2% per Crux spent.
   Tome-Bearer's Inspiration 30 Instant Self 30 seconds 4455 Magicka
Etch a series of runes onto your weapon that pulse with power once every 5 seconds. Each pulse enhances your class abilities, and striking an enemy with one deals an additional [3074 / 3106 / 3140 / 3174] Magic Damage and generates Crux if you have none. While slotted on either ability bar, gain Major Brutality and Major Sorcery, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 20%.
     Inspired Scholarship Increases the frequency of damage.
Etch a series of runes onto your weapon that pulse with power once every 3 seconds. Each pulse enhances your class abilities, and striking an enemy with one deals an additional [2478 / 2503 / 2531 / 2559] Magic Damage and generates Crux if you have none. While slotted on either ability bar, gain Major Brutality and Major Sorcery, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 20%.
   Recuperative Treatise When dealing damage, restore Magicka and Stamina.
Etch a series of runes onto your weapon that pulse with power once every 5 seconds. Each pulse enhances your class abilities, and striking an enemy with one deals an additional 3176 Magic Damage, restores [510 / 540 / 570 / 600] Magicka and Stamina, and generates Crux if you have none. While slotted on either ability bar, gain Major Brutality and Major Sorcery, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 20%.
   The Imperfect Ring 42 Instant Enemy 22 meters 5 meters 20 seconds 3510 Stamina
Cost Determined by Lowest Max Resource Summon a flawed rune under an enemy that etches foes nearby with scrawled glyphs, dealing [12303 / 12427 / 12572 / 12719] Magic Damage over 20 seconds. An ally near the initial target can activate the Runebreak synergy, dealing 7379 Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters.
     Rune of Displacement Places a rune under the target that deals damage and pulls nearby enemies after a delay.
Duration: 18 seconds, Radius: 10 meters.
Cost Determined by Lowest Max Resource Summon a discharging rune under an enemy. After 2 seconds the rune pulses, pulling in foes between 2 to 10 meters and etching them with scrawled glyphs that deal [12680 / 12808 / 12958 / 13104] Magic Damage over 18 seconds. An ally near the initial target can activate the Runebreak synergy, dealing 7379 Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters.
   Fulminating Rune Deals additional area damage after a delay. Up to 3 allies can use the Runebreak synergy.
Cost Determined by Lowest Max Resource Summon an explosive rune under an enemy that etches foes nearby with scrawled glyphs, dealing 12685 Magic Damage over 20 seconds. The rune lingers on the initial target for 6 seconds before detonating, dealing [3811 / 3853 / 3896 / 3936] Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters. Rune detonation cannot be primed with Fulminating Rune again for 6 seconds. Up to 3 allies near the initial target can activate the Runebreak synergy, dealing 7379 Frost Damage to enemies within 7 meters.

27    You master the warp and weft of your very soul. When you are restored Magicka or Stamina, increase your Weapon and Spell Damage by 5% for 10 seconds.
   Psychic Lesion 22    (With a Herald of the Tome Ability Slotted) Your attacks wound the mind with heretical knowledge, increasing damage dealt by Status Effects by 7% and Status Effect Chance by 27%.
36    (With a Herald of the Tome Ability Slotted) Your attacks wound the mind with heretical knowledge, increasing damage dealt by Status Effects by 15% and Status Effect Chance by 55%.
   Splintered Secrets 39    What they don't know can kill them. Increase your Physical and Spell Penetration by 495 per Herald of the Tome ability slotted.
50    What they don't know can kill them. Increase your Physical and Spell Penetration by 991 per Herald of the Tome ability slotted.
