The Vlindrels are a great and ancient noble merchant family of Colovian origin, active in Cyrodiil, and the Reach.[1][2][3]:502

Lord Vlindrel's spirit

The precise origins of the Vlindrels remain unknown, but the name Vlindrel had already been used by 2E 582, associated with a notable estate in the city of Markarth, the Vlindrel Hall. During that time, the estate was inhabited by a wealthy and influential Reachfolk family, including Deantenna, who was known for acquiring luxurious goods from various regions of Tamriel. The connection between these Reachfolk and the Colovian Vlindrels is unknown.[4][5][6]

The noble family's was active during the early Third Era, around the time of the establishment of the Knights of the Nine in 3E 111. Throughout the Third Era, the Underpall Keep served as the ancestral tomb for the Vlindrels,[7] where Lord Berich Vlindrel, a tyrannical ruler and former Knight of the Nine, was laid to rest alongside the stolen Greaves and Sword of the Crusader, revered artifacts of Pelinal Whitestrake.[8] However, Lord Vlindrel's malevolent spirit, wielding the corrupted Sword of the Crusader, haunted the Orange Road, unable to join his fellow Knights at the Priory of the Nine. In 3E 433, the Hero of Kvatch eventually put his spirit to rest by recovering the Sword of the Crusader and restoring its sanctity at the Great Chapel of Arkay in Cheydinhal, thereby ending his tormented existence,[2][9][10] allowing him to join his fellow knights.[11]

During the late years of the Third Era, Lord Vlindrel's Tower, which had once stood southwest of Chorrol, lay in ruins, its original purpose was unknown.[12]

Following the Reachmen Rebellion in 4E 174, the Vlindrels of Markarth were forcibly expelled, and their once illustrious mansion has remained vacant ever since.[3]:502 However, a few years later, in 4E 201 the opportunity to acquire the property arose for those who could demonstrate loyalty to the Jarl of Markarth.[13][14][15]
