The Gonfalon Head Lighthouse is a tower that anchors the western end of Gonfalon Bay (both the large bay and the eponymous city) in the Systres Archipelago. As its name suggests, it is named after Gonfalon Head, which stands on the Sapphire Coast of southern High Isle. The beacon is a monument blessed by Kynareth, the goddess of the winds and sea, and a beloved landmark by local mariners.[1] An order dedicated to Kynareth uses her idol to start the divine light at the top.[2]

HistoryEdit

The order of Kynareth who watch the lighthouse employ a keeper and believe that the lighthouse's idol blesses High Isle with the divine's light. The idol otherwise has no purpose or worth outside of the lighthouse. There have been two known lighthouses on Gonfalon Head; the second beacon was built in the early first century of the Second Era,[2] during the Akaviri Potentate.[3] By the sixth century, it was in a dangerous state of disrepair, until Duchess Elea Dufort ordered for its complete renovation.[2]

Circa 2E 582, the Ascendant Order pillaged the lighthouse and stole the idol to sabotage it. As a result, ships carrying leaders of the Alliance War crashed on the coast. The famed investigator Arabelle Davaux enlisted the Vestige to investigate the lighthouse and its keeper, Menoit. The Vestige helped Menoit by retrieving the idol from the Ascendant Order's camp to the west. With it returned to the tower, Light-Keeper Menoit performed a ritual to reignite the light and provided the Vestige with the intel they needed.[4]
