Mentor E-mailEdit

Done. I've created a hotmail account and confirmed my address here, so it's working now. --HMSVictory 11:40, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

Except it's still not working. As always, when I click on the "Email this User" link (Special:Emailuser/HMSVictory), I get the error message: "This user has not specified a valid e-mail address, or has chosen not to receive e-mail from other users." --NepheleTalk 13:21, 1 April 2008 (EDT)
Try it now. Sorry, Nephele - just read my E-mail. --HMSVictory 13:36, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

New Content For OblivionEdit

I've worked out tables that has the maximum classes that each race-class can get to for both Morrowind and Oblivion. I want to publish them on the wiki but I've never done it before. Are you able to help? --Thistleryver 02:32, 2 April 2008 (EDT)

Fanfiction RequestEdit

Well, more of a "feel free," actually. If you ever want to use Alegna (my Breton medium with the sentient dagger (ask, and I shall tell)) or the concept of the Editors in your fics, go ahead. Alegna's my pet character, even more than Somercy is. I trust you to use her respectfully and well. I look forward to reading what you next write! Somercy 08:47, 7 April 2008 (EDT)

Thank, Somercy! In fact, I have just this minute finished a Fanfiction poem, The Tribunal's Seduction. It's written in the structure of a Shakespearean Sonnet, and is based around the arrogance of the Tribunal. I hope you enjoy reading it. New World Order, the sequel to The Armour of Contempt, will be out soon as well. --HMSVictory 08:59, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
I noticed the Shakespearean influence, geek that I am. Nice job on that one! You're amazing. Somercy 09:01, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Love, Alegna's not properly a spy. Really, she's a Medium, a ghost-talker. A Spiritualist. She's only an Editor because Nephele dragged her in. Just letting you know... Somercy 09:03, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Amazing? I wouldn't go that far. I'll just fix that profession now. Anyway, if you don't understand any of the poem, check out its talk page, which has some explanantions and meanings. --HMSVictory 09:05, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Only one thing to say, dear. "Fascist," not "fachist," in the notes. I hesitate to change what someone else put on a talk page, but for this, it might be worth letting you know. But other than that, nicely done. Somercy 09:07, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
I knew that spelling was wrong in some way. I'll fix it now. Good to see you back on the site again, by the way. --HMSVictory 09:09, 7 April 2008 (EDT)

(Sod the colons!) Good to be back. I'm not entirely able to devote the same amount of time here, but I promise that the second chapter of Guild's-Knight will be up before I graduate! Somercy 09:13, 7 April 2008 (EDT)

Yeah, I'm just reading what's left of your Fanfiction that I haven't read already. Very nice indeed. You seem to be able to concentrate very well on personality and character, whereas I prefer to go into great detail about the flow of events, while still attempting to maintain a relatively fast-paced text. The second half of The Armour of Contempt is a perfect example of this. --HMSVictory 09:17, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, remember who my characters are. They're based on y'all, so I do try to take a care with them. By the way, have you seen the pictures I've drawn for some of the characters? If not, I'll go fetch links next time I'm online (I have class now, see you later!). Somercy 09:20, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
No, I don't believe I have. I had no idea that you drew images of other characters. The only one I've seen is that one you drew for Rpeh. --HMSVictory 09:24, 7 April 2008 (EDT)
My computer's giving me a hassle, but you can find pics of Alegna and an Orc I drew at http://somercy.deviantart.com , as well as the Robius pic. Somercy 09:03, 8 April 2008 (EDT)
Technology never works when it's needed most. Very true. --HMSVictory 13:00, 8 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, now I seem to be able to get in. Yeah, I've got pics of the Guild's-Knight, Nephi, an Orc, and Robi up, besides the two of Alegna that I'm not satisfied with. Somercy 08:57, 9 April 2008 (EDT)

(See you in programming hell, colons!) Right. By they way, how much leeway do I have in using Alegna? Not in terms of character, but where she will be situated. I don't feel I'm ready to start any editor fics yet, so I was think of integrating her into some of my other ideas. Is this alright? --HMSVictory 09:49, 9 April 2008 (EDT)

Ah, another colon-hater! Anyway, do feel free to use her at will in any fics. Um, her personality is warm and friendly. She's young and cursed with more curiousity than common sense. And email me if you want info on her dagger, Boadicea. Heck, maybe you can write that story for me. Her hometown is Sadrith Mora, but she travels, and can often be seen in Ancestral Tombs. Somercy 10:31, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for the low-down. I am in need of some inspired characters form other users, which is why I am offering my services as a wriet of Fanfiction. And if my collecting skills serve me well, which they don't, then the site doesn't have anywhere near enough Fanfiction! Actually, the variation of subjects and themes is very good. Anyway, I'll see what I can cook up -=Insert disturbing, manical laughter here=-. --HMSVictory 10:36, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
Oy. Good luck? I'd lend you my other character concepts, if you'd like. Email me sometime, so we're not clogging things up for ev'ryone else. Somercy 10:41, 9 April 2008 (EDT)
Green lights there. --HMSVictory 11:03, 9 April 2008 (EDT)

UserpageEdit

I especially like this picture.

I must tell you, your userpage totally pwns! LOL! I really like your cat. I got a question, however. Does "APATHY IS DEATH" come from KOTOR II? --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 22:27, 10 April 2008 (EDT)

Once again, my references have been shot down by a more culturally sophisticated user (If being addicted to a video game counts as being culturally sophisticated). Yes, it's from KOTOR II, but I thought it would make a great addition to my Userpage. "INNOCENCE PROVES NOTHING" is from Warhammer: 40,000. --HMSVictory 09:59, 11 April 2008 (EDT)

Slow down!Edit

HMSVictory,

Small, Medium, and Large aren't adjectives, when on a cave/fortress etc. page. They're types, or classes of cave. If you look at here, you'll see what I mean. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 12:09, 12 April 2008 (EDT)

Welcome MessageEdit

Just so you know, the standard welcome message can be found here and can be customized if you need to. --Volanaro 07:42, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Right. I knew Rpeh was exterminating the new Templates created by Michaeldsaurez, but I didn't know where the official template was to replace it woth. Thanks for the info. --HMSVictory 07:43, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Any time, always happy to help another user, or in this case mentor, we could take a look here to see all the people that have Michaeldsaurez's welcome message on their talk page. --Volanaro 07:47, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Rpeh has asked him to refrain from adding that Template, but he persists. We should be watchful... --HMSVictory 07:50, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
I'm replacing a load of them as we speak, typical, we try to get something done and there's always something else getting in the way! --Volanaro 07:53, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

The issue is kept being brought up because you keep bringing it up. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 11:26, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Wrong. The issue is being kept up because you persist in using you welcome template. --HMSVictory 11:29, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
No, it's because the littlest things bother you. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 11:33, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Incorrect: Rather that I care about the consistency of the wiki. Your template looks like something out of a child's magazine! --HMSVictory 11:35, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
What's wrong with childish? Bright and pretty colors are good. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 11:36, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
This is inherently not a childish site, and so we shall not indulge in templates of that manner. Formality over complexity. --HMSVictory 11:38, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
It's not complex! --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 11:40, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, compare it to the one we use normally: the one we should never have deviated from using. --HMSVictory 11:41, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Wow :| I check Recentchanges just to see all of this nonsense. Great to see that everyone has learned to be so friendly and supportive of each other over the last few days. Seriously, this is all just idiotic. There has been no community decision saying that personalized welcome messages are forbidden, and in fact on the UESPWiki:Messages page it encourages people to tweak the existing welcome message. So in the absence of an actual site decision on what to do with welcome messages, HMSVictory's little edit war amounts to nothing more than a personal vendetta against another user. And to top it off, this whole mess is completely counterproductive to the whole spirit of the welcome message: what user is going to want to stay on the site when confronted by that insanity? This is the type of thing that just disgusts me. --NepheleTalk 11:46, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I was attempting (albeit unsuccessfully) to implement what Rpeh had done earlier by replacing Michaeldsaurez's templates with site ones over a range of User Talk pages. I did not see fit to leave his template there, and apologised to Scared19 about the incident. I tried to prevent this from becoming an edit war, but failed in dissuading him from leaving the page as it was. Others had expressed opposition to Michaeldsaurez's template, and I was acting on their decisions as well as my own. I tried to explain my reasoning, but was faced with disinterested counter-arguments. Apologies all round for sparking off this incident. --HMSVictory 11:52, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

That's (online) life for you. I don't think Michaeldsaurez has really got a grip about this Wiki. He's creating hundreds of pointless Userboxes that are unlikely to be used as we speak (type). --HMSVictory 07:56, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I know, I was wondering wether to propose them for deletion or not, maybe Rpeh will know what to do. --Volanaro 08:00, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I mean, why? Why would anyone want or need these? And if someone is desperate for one, making their own is often far more rewarding, and shortens the load time on their page as there is one less template. Besides, all of these will be very temporary on a Userpage, unless the person in question is roleplaying as this rank in real life, which is unlikely. They're frankly just pointless. We've survived brilliantly without them until now, so I see no reason whatsoever for creating a load of them. It's just crazy! --HMSVictory 08:04, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I've sent a message to rpeh, we will probably get a firm decision from him (down on knees with hands together) "please say we're gonna get rid of them!" --Volanaro 08:08, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
According to Rpeh, as irritated as he is, the userboxes don't wiolate wiki policy so there's nothing he can do, I've asked him to talk to Michaeldsuarez about the speed he's editing at so we might see some improvement. --Volanaro 08:12, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
I've stuck a message on his talk page, so we'll just have to wait and see what he makes of it... --HMSVictory 08:15, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
He seems to have stopped, wether the message had an impact or he's just offline i don't know but we can take a breather for a few seconds "whopee!" --Volanaro 08:16, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Now start the deletion proposals. I don't think we can speed delete here, but let's see what everyone else thinks about this. --HMSVictory 08:17, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Like rpeh said, they don't violate wiki policy so there's not much we can do about them, also if we spend ages prod'ing all of them taking up space on the recent changes page ourselves, that doesn't make us much better than him, for now i'd leave them alone but maybe later... --Volanaro 08:19, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
We should still get everyone else's opinions on the matter. --HMSVictory 08:21, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
When you say everyone.... do you mean every user or just admins/patrollers etc? Whils hes offline i don't think we should worry about it so for now i'm gonna ignore it, if he returns then we'll all just have to keep an eye on him. --Volanaro 08:25, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

(See you in programming hell, colons!) I mean everyone who's opinion carries any weight. And I mean everyone. --HMSVictory 08:27, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Ok well here's mine, get rid of them! --Volanaro 08:29, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
They're irritating and largely a waste of time, but they're game-related, don't violate policy and are in use by one or two users so there's no real reason to delete them. –RpehTCE 08:30, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
I can't argue with that. They're so annoying, though. --HMSVictory 08:31, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
ok, the main reson they get on my nerves is the fact that he clogs up the recent changes screen, parhaps if someone could have a word with him about just slowing down a bit, it wasn't the decision i'd hoped for but it would partially resolve this issue for me --Volanaro 08:33, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Wait, you mean I'm wasting my time creating all those wanted categories? ~ Arilita 11:53, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Sorry about that. It's my fault. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 12:14, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
I think it is fair to say that we must both recieve an equal share of the blame. It was my fault for not realising that the constant reverts were unnecessary, and it was your fault for not accepting my viewpoint. What we have done will mar our records permanently, and I think it is best if we try to forget this incident. I may not like your template, but I took my criticism of it too far. Just see my comment on Rpeh's talk page. --HMSVictory 12:24, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
Sorry for everything. I'll repect your request, and not talk about this any further. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 12:29, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

Temporarily BlockedEdit

I am blocking both you and Michaeldsuarez for 15 minutes to make it clear that your edit-warring is totally unacceptable. I am doing this under the "...prevent disruptive contributions from being made to the UESPWiki" part of the Blocking Policy because the behaviour both of you have demonstrated in the past few minutes is more nothing more than a waste of everybody's time.

At this point I don't care who is wong and who is right or whether even such a decision has any meaning. When this block expires, stop undoing each other's posts or another block will be applied with longer duration. –RpehTCE 11:47, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

I Can't Believe This!Edit

Less than 24 hours after I had to block you for edit warring, you go and do it again! This is absolutely ridiculous. The first undo was fine - I would probably have done the same myself, as the poster didn't really make the intent clear. The poster then replied with some extra information but you undid it again without any indication that you had read the edit summary and then did the same again. Instead of removing the information a second time you should have shown good faith and assumed the poster had a point they were trying to make. You could have posted on the article's talk page, or on the poster's own talk page asking for clarification. For somebody who was accusing other users of un-wiki-like behaviour yesterday this is utterly incredible.

You have made some very helpful edits to the site but things like this cast a strongly negative light on your all your actions. Whatever good edits you have made today the end result is a ticked-off user not to mention a ticked-off admin. Please try to play nice in the future. –RpehTCE 08:32, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

Huh? As far as I could see, the contribution he made was not something that really deserved a place on a "Useful Spells" page, as what he was proposing by making your own spell could easily be achieved by purchasing any of the collection of similar spells, saving the player the trouble. As he/she is an anonymous user, I assumed that a post on the talk page would go un-noticed. Of course the poster had a point, just not one I saw as a correct one. I could see no other way of preventing him/her from leaving that contribution there.
Who did I accuse? What I said was we were both guilty of un-wiki-like behaviour, and the blame is equal between us. I did not directly accuse Michaeldsuarez of anything beyond creating some pretty awful (in my opinion) userboxes. --HMSVictory 08:39, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
This was the edit I had in mind. I wasn't quoting directly, just summing up the sentiment, which is why I didn't use quotation marks. As far as the spell is concerned there's nothing remotely like it on sale and it's an effect that I can see could be useful under certain circumstances. I doubt I'll be using it myself but then I don't use any of the other spells on that page either. –RpehTCE 08:54, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
What are you talking about? There are plenty of "Weakness to ......" spells available! How else is the player going to create their own without knowing the effect?! Personally, I found that particular spell suggestion to be quite a large step down from most of the others, some of which aren't bad at all, so I though it best if it was left out. You could equally blame the anonymous editor (who clearly has a knowledge of how a Wiki works) for not posting anything on the talk page. Although I don't really feel that an apology is needed, I'll say sorry for the fact that this has both alarmed and distracted you. --HMSVictory 09:02, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
You've missed the point of the new spell. The only version of the weakness spells for sale are completely different to the one in question in that they are concerned with weakening an enemy's resistance. This one isn't; it simply uses a weakness spell because of its low cost. The Provoke spell will get all enemies in a 100' radius attacking you (rather than running around aimlessly as with Frenzy), even if you're not in a direct line of sight. –RpehTCE 09:25, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Alright, Alright! Mistake on my part, OK? From what I saw of the contribution, it seemed to me that the spell was entirely redundant. The issue is dead, and I take full responsibility for mis-interpreting the anonymous user's edits. --HMSVictory 09:29, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

What gives?Edit

Your latest explanation for removing the 'provoke' effect is that 'plenty of similar spells are available for sale'. Such as? There are a handful of hostile spells with a radius of 20 available for sale, but they are usable only at Master level and have very large magicka costs. Nothing available for sale comes anywhere close to a 100 radius or the 1 magicka cost for the 'provoke' spell effect. There are a few large area Light spells (up to 60 at Master level) which can help to make you more noticeable, but again they do not work in all situations, do not have the same range (light is 60 from yourself, as opposed to 100 from any point in line of sight), and cost much more magicka.

So since the latest explanation, like the 'Frenzy does the same thing' story before it, is completely untrue... what gives? Why do you keep removing this effect? The name of the page is 'Useful Spells'. The ability to pull enemies to you is plainly useful if you play the game tactically. I was looking for an effect like this from the start of the game. I tried Frenzy and Light and the hostile spells for sale and none of them were remotely viable for getting the job done... this does. I use it all the time to pull enemies into traps, water, and/or long straight hallways for ideal archery conditions. Going down to the big room at the end of the hallway is a good way for an archer to get mauled... pull all the occupants with this and they trip over each other in the hallway while you wipe them out. Outdoors I combine it with the Marksmanship 'zoom in' ability to pull all the daedra around an Oblivion gate into the river I am standing on the far side of... even if I can't see them all due to the gate and/or terrain, this will bring them running.

Apparently you don't play this way, or you would know that the other things you are talking about don't cover it... but that doesn't mean that I am the only person who does or who would find this effect useful. --12.42.51.27 09:21, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

See my comments above for reasons. --HMSVictory 09:24, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Yes, that discussion apparently went on while I was writing my note. I hadn't seen it until after I posted. However, you just repeat the same claims which I explained to be untrue. Sure, there are 'Weakness to...' spells available for sale. However, not one of them is ranged with a 100 area and 1 magicka cost... or anything close to it. As to your comment that >I< could have posted to talk. Quite right. I would have earlier than the above except that I thought explaining the difference from Frenzy would suffice. --12.42.51.27 09:29, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Understood. As I've said already, it was a mistake on my part. I don't think I clearly understood what you were trying to illustrate. --HMSVictory 09:31, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
S'ok. Miscommunication is inevitable in textual forums and it's easy for things to get hostile. Rpeh's recent comment about 'cheating' bothered me more than this. :] --12.42.51.27 09:41, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Have you considered creating an account, by the way? I think you would be a valuable slave asset to this site. You seem to have a firm grasp of both Wiki format and TES lore. Having account gives you many benefits, as well as being able to create a personal Userpage (Well, you probably know all about that). --HMSVictory 09:45, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
sorry about the comment, i realised what i done, tryed to find it but a could not. but yeah he could prove usefull. he seems like he has a good knowlage of the elder scrolls. HMS WARSPITE 09:55, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Thanks, I've been avoiding making an account, but may succumb eventually. I've kind of been hiding out here (and in Oblivion) from the constant demands for me to play 'template guru' on Wikipedia. Needed a break. --12.42.51.27 10:05, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, we would welcome you as a fully-fledged and registered user! --HMSVictory 10:08, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

MentoringEdit

I would like to ask you if you would be opposed show me the ropes around here?--Carn 16:23, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

I assume you have read my recent E-mail to you. I would be glad to welcome you as my very first test subject Mentoring user. Anything in particular that you would like to know? All you need to do is ask. If I don't know or for some reason can't tell you, I will direct you to someone who can. --HMSVictoryTalk 04:14, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

Tamriel:Host of the HornEdit

Ok, have at it, I don't know the story, but I reworked it to something legible. If you want to revert it to a direct copy from a (badly written) article from the Imperial Library, fine... Hope that it will end up a better article.-BenouldTC 13:22, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

I admit it was badly written, so that is why I have just tweaked it a little. From what I was reading of your final version, you had missed two of the main points entirely. There are two groups. The Host of the Horn, and the Host of the True Horn. Your version lopped the latter, making the article very confusing. Sorry to seem so evil, but it just read better this way. See what you think of the cureent version. I do know the story, however, which is why I spotted and undid your edits. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:26, 15 April 2008 (EDT)
Heh, ok, so why is the entire article except the first 2 lines about Kain and the Host of the True Horn? That's what the confusion comes from. The focus of your write-up was unclear. In my edit summary I asked for you (or someone) to check that the facts were still intact. Instead you revert back to that same copied junk that I just spend 30 minutes turning into English. So please, try again, as it stands, it is bad. You even reverted back to this sentence: "But when she and the undead Lord Kain sought to rally the knights, Lord Jaren of Castle Battlehorn trapped the  [sic] both undead and the necromancer in the grotto of his castle.' I'd say clarify the beginning, decide what the focus of this article is, but if the story is about Kain's battles and his demise, the second part I wrote is much clearer. -BenouldTC 13:52, 15 April 2008 (EDT)
The only information we have about the Host of the Horn directly conerns the Host of the True Horn, which doens't have its own article. As it is, I see no problems in how it is written. If you see any, please point them out individually for me. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:57, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

(Outdent) Let me say I understand you are trying to fill in info where we have very little. Here is what I would do: Article about the 1st. faction, Host of the Horn

--The official military force of Lainlyn is the Host of the Horn, their duties range from open warfare to espionage and tax collection. In opposition to them and in an effort to overthrow his ruthless brother, Baron Shrike, Lord Kain formed the Host of the True Horn-- Write if Kain succeeded. Host of the True Horn is then a link to a new article that has the following info (if Kain was unsuccessful)

Article about the 2nd. faction, Host of the True Horn:

"The Host of the True Horn were initially formed by Lord Kain in an effort to dethrone his ruthless brother, Baron Shrike, Ruler of Lainlyn.

The Knights of the True Horn were almost to the man defeated. The knights were scattered and Lord Kain was slain in battle and then turned by the Necromancer Arielle Jurard. When she and the Undead Lord Kain sought to rally the knights for a new campaign, Lord Jaren of Castle Battlehorn entrapped them both in the grotto of his castle. In a recent attack together with a band of hired knights, Jaren finally destroyed the Undead Lord Kain and Necromancer-turned-Lich, Arielle."

I think I'll leave it for now, as the Host of the True Horn has even fewer references in the games than the Host of the Horn. I'll have another scan through adn see if there's anything I can make more legible. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:32, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

Adjust with something if they were successful in defeating Shrike, and the True Horn were defeated in a separate event. Hope this helps,-BenouldTC 14:26, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

Hi, this is just in case i do something really stupid and not tell anyone what happened to me! I would like to know how i can help you guys with the things around here while i'm... well, here! i want to be as helpfull as possible and not just some user on here! thanks!--Ahnaz31 14:59, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, it seems that Nephele has re-worked this article beautifully, so there's really no need to perform any other major edits on it anymore. --HMSVictoryTalk

Tamriel:Ka Po' TunEdit

Before undoing a series of edits made by another editor, it is customary to discuss the reasons for the change, especially when the previous editor has provided an explanation, for example at Tamriel talk:Ka Po' Tun (race). Blindly undoing changes without discussing them is what leads to edit wars, and is counter to the wiki UESPWiki:Consensus-building process. The point of the wiki is to work collaboratively, by cooperating with other editors. Insisting that your version of the article is the correct one just because you created it does not help anyone else on the site, and in particular it does not help the readers, which should always be the underlying motivation for any edits. --NepheleTalk 14:43, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

I have not insisted that my version is correct simply because it is mine. Rather, I have mentioned that my version had more information in the first place, and that Ka Po' Tun is a far less common spelling. Larger game websites, such as The Imperial Library and even Gamespot prefer the usual Ka'Po'Tun spelling. Sorry for not posting anything on any talk pages; I thought my edit summaries would have been enough. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:46, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

Ka Po' TunEdit

Hi HMSVictory, was it really necessary to revert the article to your spelling? The redirect worked fine, in addition to that, the spelling in Mysterious Akavir that you reference is Ka Po' Tun... --BenouldTC 14:48, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

See above. The spelling in Mysterious Akivir is in fact the only time this spelling is preferred, and the book is extremely innaccurate in every other sense, so why not here? --HMSVictoryTalk 14:50, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

Don't know how to say this diplomatically...Edit

On the one hand, I don't want to waste any more time on the issues. However, I am glad you are trying to improve the wiki, but to put the Tamriel:Host of the Horn article as something you are proud of, hmm. As far as I can see you made a direct copy from the Imperial Library:

"The official military force of Lainlyn is the Host of the Horn. Their duties consist of all-important activities from straight warfare to espionage and tax collection. Lainlyn is ruled in ruthlessly by Baron Shrike. His brother Lord Kain was fighting to dethrone Shrike, by forming the Host of True Horn.
Couple of years passed and the Knights of the True Horn was losing. The knights were scattered and Lord Kain was slain in battle. The recent report indicated that Lord Kain was made undead by the necromancer Arielle Jurard. But when she and the undead Lord Kain sought to rally the knights, Lord Jaren of Castle Battlehorn trapped the both undead and the necromancer in the grotto of his castle. Recently, the new owner of the castle learnt of this grotto and with a host of hired knights he destroyed the undead Lord Kain and Arielle Jurard who had now turned to a lich."

Then two editors, myself and Nephele, made some major structural revision, to the point where it stands now.

To sum it up, you Googled "Host of the Horn", hit copy+paste and changed a word... presto, an article you are proud of? Apart from the plagiarism, it does put the above spat about Ka Po'Tun or Ka'Po'Tun in perspective.

Ask yourself if all this is really in the wiki spirit, ... --BenouldTC 15:34, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

Not quite. I knew that the Imperial library had information on many of the more minor subjects that the UESP does not over, or only hints to. I had read the Host of the Horn area on TIL, and was quite disappointed when I found the UESP's article on the subject to be quite lacking. Yes, I copied the information, but I did edit it somewhat. We have other paragraphs directly taken from TIL, so I saw little error in doing the same thing. Clearly I was wrong. At the time, I attempted to improve the wording, as TIl's version is, admittedly, rather poor in terms of grammar. Anyway, your proposed version seemed even worse than mine, so I left it. Fortunately, Nephele came along and sorted it out. As it is, the article is both clear and comprehensive, which was my aim in the first place. I would not, and have not, just copied and pasted any information from another TES site without editing it whatsoever. This is not plagiarism. At least not in my eyes. --HMSVictoryTalk 15:47, 18 April 2008 (EDT)
Not quite what? You list this article as Pages I'm Proud of on your main page. As for the rest, I let everything speak for itself, for anyone bored enough to go through it. --BenouldTC 16:42, 18 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, HMSVictory is free to be proud of anything he wants. I can be proud of my local ice hockey team, even though I have absolutely no responsibility for anything they've done. If HMSVictory is proud of the fact that his interest in these articles helped prompt the articles to get expanded and improved, then nobody can change the fact that HMSVictory feels that way.
As for plagiarism, though, copying content from another site while changing a few words is still plagiarism. See, for example, Gamefaqs' article on plagiarism, specifically the section under "What is Plagiarism?" where it states "If you read a boss strategy in another guide and re-create in your own words... you're plagiarizing." One saving grace here is the bit of the sentence that I omitted from the quote: "if you don't credit the original source of the information." Not giving credit is a critical component of plagiarism; HMSVictory's edit summaries have given at least some acknowledgment of the content's source (although probably not enough to really give proper credit to the original author).
But the bottom line is that paraphrasing content copied from another site isn't enough to make the content your own. It needs to be written in your own words, and if you have to comb through the text to notice small changes such as replacing "losing" with "almost defeated" then the passage was not written in your own words. Truly rewriting the information isn't easy, but that's exactly the point behind plagiarism concerns: the person who did the real work should be given credit for doing the work.
And if there are indeed other articles where the content has been copied directly from TIL, then those articles really need to be revised, too. --NepheleTalk 17:19, 18 April 2008 (EDT)
I understand that I could have handled this a lot more sensibly, and I think it would be a good idea to place a link to TIL's relevant page at the bottom, so the extra information can be accessed. As for citing the original author - I have no idea. I am aware of the group of people who essentially "run" TIL and make the most contributions, but as to which of them wrote those pages, I do not know, so therefore referring to the individual author was beyond my reach. Yes, I was lazy in how I re-formatted the article, and left it to Nephele to sort it out, but I don't think the content is solely my own. I'm only "Proud" of this page simply because I feel that it represents a comprehensive text on a very minor faction (something that the UESP does not commonly feature) and that I had some involement in reaching the final product. I have attempted to improve many of the Tamriel:factions and Tamriel:races articles, but I admit that my knowledge of both interior and exterior site policies is somewhat lacking. We don't have a policy/guide on plagiarism, do we? Or do we need one at all? --HMSVictoryTalk 05:07, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
First of all, let me say that I love your enthusiasm and the vigor you bring to neglected areas of the wiki. Sometimes you're a bit eager with the Undo, but hey, nobody is perfect XD. Try to reach consensus using the Talk pages, if others feel differently. As to plagiarism, I think Nephele described it pretty well. Use your best judgement, draw from multiple sources and in-game experience, and re-write everything in your own words. I don't think we need a formal guide, unless this becomes a recurring problem. Other than that, keep up the good work. --Cheers, BenouldTC 15:17, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, as you can see from my work on Tamriel:Dwemer (which I am really proud of) and Morrowind:Dwemer Centurions, I have revised my contributions after listening to (reading) what you have said. If you also check the latter article's history, you'll find that I explicitly followed Nephele's guidance during a particular edit. As you've probably guessed by now, I'm an avid historian, which is why the subject of the Dwemer interests me so much. Thanks to you both, anyway. --HMSVictoryTalk 15:22, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

Fin tagsEdit

HMSVictory,

I know it seems strange, but in the CS none of these quests have the "Finished" box tagged. I'm staring at it right now. Like I said here we need another editor who also has the CS and Morrowind to check up on this. Do you know of any editors who definately do? - Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:07, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

I have the CS and Morrowind, and I use both regularly. Anyway, it is of no consequence if the CS doesn't list them as finishing the quest, the fact is that once these journal entries appear, the quest become filed under "completed" in the journal instead of "active." Practically all people who visit this page will be unaware of this oversight in the CS, and would rather be in knowledge that these do indeed "finish" the quests in all respects. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:10, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
I'm just being curious here, not trying to start an arguement, but if the "finished" box isn't tagged, then do you know what command causes the quest to be listed as "completed"? If I knew that, then I could combine that, and checking the CS dialogue/journal section to make sure that all the quests are correctly formatted. Thanks. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:16, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
Well, I have to go now, so I won't be able to do that, at least not until tomorrow. Sorry. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:17, 19 April 2008 (EDT)

Recent EditsEdit

Hi HMSVictory! I know that you really want to just help the site. But it seems like too often you overlook the fact that the other editors are a very valuable part of the site. In fact, the community of editors is a much more important part of the wiki than the individual edits that get made to pages: without the editors, the edits will never happen. So personally I really don't think it's worth the risk of alienating new editors by welcoming them with unpleasant messages, especially when that message then gets followed up with a page full of bickering. Although you weren't the only person involved in that discussion, it is notable that you have recently been involved another similar set of unwelcoming messages. And the whole point of the Manurulz discussion was just to complain about a public-domain image and four words that he used on his user page? Just to then effectively say "this was all for nothing, you can use the userbox anyway"? I don't think that the illwill generated by a page of unpleasant discussion is worth it, especially over something so minor.

Overall I find it very disheartening to look back over your user talk page and review the number of times that admins and other editors have felt it necessary to bring up problems caused by your edits. Even if your actions are motivated by trying to help the site, the ultimate effect of your actions is often to hurt the site, not help it. Whether it's through alienating new editors, or requiring other editors to get involved in lengthy discussions over trivialities, or otherwise making choices that require admins to clean up after you -- your edits are often very costly. I'd really prefer to not have to spend so much of my time following up after your edits, and I'd guess a few other editors would say the same thing.

So I think everyone would appreciate it if you would try a bit less hard sometimes. If you need to leave a message for another editor, focus on trying to really be friendly and welcoming. Don't contribute to arguments on the talk pages of new editors. Consider the likely ramifications of any negative comments you think are necessary: is the potential for angering another editor(s) and starting another long debate really worth it? And as I just told Volanaro, if you're not completely sure what should be done about an edit, just leave it. Let somebody else deal with it. I'd much rather have to clean up a few extra edits myself, if it means that I don't have to spend as much time moderating unnecessary bickering between editors. Or if all of that is too complicated to consider next time you make an edit, perhaps just focus on whether there's any chance that your edit is going to prompt yet another post like this on your talk page. Really, wouldn't it be better to just skip any such edits? Wouldn't you rather have a week go by where your talk page doesn't get filled with these types of followup discussions? I know I'd enjoy being able to pull up Recentchanges in the morning without having to dread what I'm likely to find there. I'm not saying that you need to change dramatically... just avoid the 10% or so of your edits that are more questionable or more likely to cause problems. --NepheleTalk 16:58, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

My opinion on a situation is mine alone, and I will not, and indeed cannot, change that. What I can and will change is how my opinions negatively impact on the community, as you have pointed out. Also, as a Mentor, it seems this issue is even more amplified. Sometimes I feel as if leaving something alone is harming the site, when in fact, in retrospect, avoiding it completely would have been advantageous. I should realise the work you have to do in order to correct or patch up the problems I cause, but I never do. I have been warned about this before, but it continues. If a situation arises, I just can't avoid becoming involved, and this is why my personality is certainly unsuitable for a climate such as this one. Apologies, as usual. I will try to adhere to what you have mentioned, but I am not optimistic in my predictions as to if I will be able to. --HMSVictoryTalk 10:59, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

New World OrderEdit

I read your new story. I realize that it is not finished, but I must say that I'm impressed. Of course, your work always impresses me, so maybe its not such a big thing. --Twentyfists 20:40, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

SuperbrainEdit

You have been given a cookie!

Your dedication and diligence to the wiki has not gone unnoticed. A user has seen the progress you've made, and has given you a cookie because of it. Good work! The user had the following to say:

You are super-smart, you deserve a cookie because you work on the wiki as hard as an admin, & because everyone deserves a cookie!--Puddle 16:31, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

This calls for a celebration! Cookies for everyone!...scrap that, cookies for HMSVictory only, just as much of a celebration if you don't like cookies. "Sheogorath the Baker"

Thanks for the compliments! But really, I definitely don't work quite as hard as, say, Rpeh or Nephele. I only wish I had the time and spirit to do so! --HMSVictoryTalk 11:20, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

User PageEdit

HMSVictory, there is something strange with your user page. I checked the edit history, and it looked like you did it yourself. What's up? --Twentyfists 20:35, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

Huh. It's normal now. --Twentyfists 19:09, 29 April 2008 (EDT)
Don't worry about it. --HMSVictoryTalk 10:12, 5 May 2008 (EDT)

Easy on the Links XDEdit

HMSVictory, it's great that you're going through articles and add links, however please consider the context. See UESPWiki:Style_Guide#Avoid_Cluttering_Links for a refresher. As an example, in your recent cleanup of Shishi, you added two redundant links, if you take the description into account. Not sure the Breton article ads information to the breton skull here either... So please look at the whole page, and use good judgement, sometime more isn't more. Keep up the good work, cheers! --BenouldTC 11:54, 9 May 2008 (EDT)

Didn't notice the links were redundant. Sorry. Anyway, the point is, many quest descriptions are far more cluttered with links than that one is now. Just take a look, especially with the Morrowind quests. I couldn't find any unqiue information about the skull itself, so I thought that A link to the Breton race article would have to do. Sorry. --HMSVictoryTalk 12:00, 9 May 2008 (EDT)
No need to apologize XD Just wanted to make sure, to avoid endless reverts, hehe. --BenouldTC 12:14, 9 May 2008 (EDT)

No, we don't edit other User pagesEdit

However, this is a special case, where copyright is involved, and I was under the impression that you yourself had requested the deletion of the article, as per User_talk:Rpeh#Articles_i.e._Todd_Howard_Interview. As such, I found the edit commentary from your side was unnecessary. --BenouldTC 14:10, 13 May 2008 (EDT)

No, I had not requested its deletion. I'm the one fighting for its very existence! Anyway, as I have said on Rpeh's talk page, I have sent an e-mail to the persons involved, and we can resolve the matter when I recieve a reply. I understand that it was a violation, but hat's still no reason to do anything to my userpage. Anyway, it's not a problem, just as long as you understand my situation. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:14, 13 May 2008 (EDT)

Oblivion:Getting AroundEdit

Hi, I recently edited a page on getting around in oblivion, and was focousing on the getting unstuck part. You reverted my revision by saying "Can you state what this 'other way' is?" Well, right there in the list, there were 7 bulletpoints on getting unstuck on the console systems without reloading an earlier save. for example, fast traveling, duping items for fotage, a self paralyze spell, etc. I also repaired some grammar in the section and changed "XBox" to the correct form, "Xbox" I believe this edit is valid, so I'm reverting your edit.24.250.102.71 15:57, 15 May 2008 (EDT)

The point of my edit was to stop ambiguity from cropping up on the site. If I had left it as it was, we'd have people complaining that the article didn't explain how. My edit actually prompted you to improve yours, so it did some good at least. Your work is appreciated, though, as the section is now greatly improved. Anyway, I did not intend offence or hurt feelings in any way, I was only doing what most editors would do in that situation. :) --HMSVictoryTalk 10:01, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Fanfiction OpportunityEdit

I'm back from a long haitus and realized that I had some unfinished business to conclude before I leave again. Sorry, I have to reject your offer. I have decided to divert all my attention to the Star Wars Fanon Wiki. Please note that neither you nor any other user have influence my decision in any way. I leave on my own free will. This is probably the last I'll speak to you, so good bye. Good luck in your work, and enjoy your future! --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 22:23, 15 May 2008 (EDT)

Good to hear from you. Acknowledged and understood. --HMSVictoryTalk 11:49, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Claiming ContentEdit

The deletion you made on the Userboxes article and, more importantly, the edit summary, are not in the spirit of the wiki. You need to read UESPWiki:Copyright and Ownership and make sure you understand it. By putting the userbox on the wiki at all you made it available for everyone, and by putting in the Template namespace, you encouraged others to use it. As far as it not being ES-relevant, neither are several of the other userboxes (Non-Bear, Atheist etc). If you want to retain copyright of material you add, you'll need to put it on your own website. –RpehTCE 12:25, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

I did not do anything to any templates. I only discovered a few minutes ago that it was a template! I see no reason why it should even deserve a place in the article, as it has far less relevance (practically none) compared to the other ones there. I can easily understand why people would want the atheist userbox, but the Halo 3 one just seems silly. --HMSVictoryTalk 12:27, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Apologies. I just discovered you didn't create it, but the point remains. You can't claim "ownership" of content on the wiki. –RpehTCE 12:30, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
I'm not trying to claim ownership of it. It just seems very odd that this kind of Userbox would even be considered for this kind of attention. Why must it only be my Userboxes that are subject to such syndication? Why have nobody else's been targeted? It's just rather strange. --HMSVictoryTalk 12:53, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Why have nobody else's been "targeted"??? You have looked at [[UESPWiki:Userboxes/Miscellaneous]] and seen that there are multiple userboxes listed there, not all of which you created? And seen all the other subpages of UESPWiki:Userboxes with dozens of other userboxes? The userboxes that you have made are only a tiny fraction of the userboxes that are posted on these pages; they're only tiny fraction of the userboxes that are posted on your user page. So how can you possibly turn that into you being uniquely targeted? The only thing that is unique is that you are the only user who keeps creating a fuss about userboxes. --NepheleTalk 13:02, 16 May 2008 (EDT)
Of course there are others, but they aren't ones specifically created by a particular user who had no idea where their creations were going, unlike mine. Besides, the users who created them were also the ones who added them. Why does a userbox concerning a completely unrelated game franchise deserve a template and a spot on the official userbox pages? I can't see the logic in it. Oh, and I create a fuss because I am a hypocrite. Simple as that. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:14, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Daggerfall and mastery of the Queen's EnglishEdit

Glad to have you around. I am a technician, not a technical writer, so you're corrective efforts are appreciated. Thanks for watching my back on the Daggerfall Vampirism page. --Uniblab 19:03, 16 May 2008 (EDT)

Well, biggest talent is English language, but your knowledge of Daggerfall far exceeds mine. I think it's fair to say that the balance was right. --HMSVictoryTalk 09:02, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
I usually type and re-type something a few million times before pressing the "submit" button, but I can't believe I actually missed the above "you're". ::slits-wrists:: --Uniblab 11:30, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
And hereby cometh the rain of burning canines! This is the gospel! I think I'll follow suit, Uniblab. --HMSVictoryTalk 11:36, 17 May 2008 (EDT)

Links, gender, etc on NPC pagesEdit

Not sure if you're aware of the discussion UESPWiki:Community_Portal#Gender_on_NPC_pages here, maybe you could wait a few days for consensus, before doing any more NPC pages? There are a few Category:Morrowind_Stubs that could use your Morrowind knowledge, if you're up for it. It'd be a shame to plow ahead only to have your work undone ;) --BenouldTC 14:22, 20 May 2008 (EDT)

WHAT?! All that linking for nothing? All those pages I went through? Oh well, I was never completely convinced it was necessary in the first place. To be honest, I was just looking for something to do. Sorry for creating yet another mess. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:24, 20 May 2008 (EDT)
Could you hold off the gender/race/class formatting entirely for now please? There's still not a consensus and it'll be easier for the bots if as many as possible are in a similar format. –RpehTCE 13:12, 21 May 2008 (EDT)
Oh, sorry. I didn't know you were going to use bots to clean everything up. Sorry for all those edits I made which have blatantly contradicted everything established in the discussion. I only read it yesterday, as you can see above. I've made yet another mess of things, but I hope it isn't too much trouble. I was just going on the opinion that basically everyone involved in the dicussion had been leaning towards. I figured that the final consensus was almost certainly going to be against the gender inclusion, so I started to delete them. I didn't know you could use bots to do that. --HMSVictoryTalk 13:17, 21 May 2008 (EDT)

more on DaggerfallEdit

Thanks for patrolling and reading and writing and general looking-after. I'm in the process of trying to write up pages for all the factions. I was sidetracked into the hacking section recently because I needed to make a "Daggerfall Data Browser". While there are several tools available, what I really need is one tool. So now I have a nifty Dot Net assembly which contains class definitions for all the Text stuff (QRC's, books, faction database, etc), the quest binaries (QBN's), and the images (textures, CIF's, etc) (it can also write to said files). Yes yes, veddy veddy good. Ummm.. so I guess now I need to get back to documenting factions! At the moment I am just a tad more than ½-way done with the Vampire Bloodlines. I started there because that gives me an excuse to add province stubs (they are territorial). Following completion of the Bloodlines, I plan on generating the provincial knightly orders (since by then I'll have the geography stubs done). After that it's then a matter of simply starting at the top of the factions database and working my way down. *sigh* That is going to be a long process, but fortunately we don't need to add them all. Thanks to my gizmo, I can report factions which are not referenced by any quest. This means I know which factions to dodge. I can also generate another report to list factions which are referenced, sorted by NPC reference count. Pretty neat. I'm writing all of this because I saw you questioned about Daggerfall:Blades. Yes, that will need to be created. FYI, they are lead by The Great Knight, and Lady Brisienna Magnessen is a member of their ranks (she is lead by The Blades). There are quite a few articles that will need to be created. I'll generate a list, slap it in the Docofall project space, and we'll see where we go from there. --Uniblab 23:51, 21 May 2008 (EDT)

Good to see some more work on the Daggerfall pages. It makes a perfect balanced team, you and Timmeh with your excellent knowledge of the game, and me with my English skills. I hope to keep an eye on the pages, not to criticise your work, but to do some major grammatical cleanup. I have no idea how we even let half of them be written in first-person. Anyway, it's nice to know there is still plenty of work going on in the more neglected areas of the site. --HMSVictoryTalk 11:55, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
The first-person prose was the original source, from the ancient days of Dave's "Old Site". Those pages were simply "cut'n'paste"'d into a wiki edit box. They were collected from private emails, newsgroup posts, guestbook entries, message boards, etc, etc. Examine here. --Uniblab 16:17, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
Well, some of them could probably do with some cleanup, which I'll perform wghen they're all up. I think this is a new project of ours! I know almost nothing of Daggerfall as a game, but should be able to help out the Redesign Project. You know, grammar, spelling, that kind of thing. I'm surprised we hadn't uploaded those texts already. --HMSVictoryTalk 09:39, 23 May 2008 (EDT)

Image ChangeEdit

Would you mind changing your Telvanni userbox to use Image:MW-Places-TelNaga.jpg rather than the current one? The GIF version is proposed for deletion and only used from your page. I thought I'd let you change the image first rather than cause a big red splodge on your page. Thanks. –RpehTCE 06:11, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

Thank for the prior notice. Is this some kind of crusade to kill the infidel GIFs? I mean, their quality can't be THAT bad, can it? --HMSVictoryTalk 11:51, 22 May 2008 (EDT)

Page requestEdit

Hi HMSVictory,

I thought this would be a thing for you. There's a page I think the wiki could benefit from, and as you're a loremaster and a dwemer expert, and knowledgeable about Morrowind, I expect you could do the job several times more thouroughly than myself. The page would either be Morrowind:Akulakhan or Tamriel:Akulakhan; probably both in the long run. Thanks in advance, - Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:30, 27 May 2008 (EDT)

You might also want to see the discussion on my talk page. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 13:35, 27 May 2008 (EDT)
OK. First of all, you made a few mistakes in your discussion. Numidium was the god created by the Dwemer and used by Tiber Septim. Akulakhan is the one created by Dagoth Ur. I think a Tamriel: article would work wonders, but a Morrowind: one would just involve a transclusion. I am completely stuck in real life an busy right now, which is why I haven't been active for a few days. If you start the article, I'll look back when I get the chance, which may not be for some time. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until I can do it. Sorry. --HMSVictoryTalk 04:44, 30 May 2008 (EDT)
I think I'll leave the creation to you. After all; you've seen how lacking my knowledge of the Dwemer and Lore is. The most I could do would be a stub. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 11:41, 30 May 2008 (EDT)
Numidium wasn't god, but a golem/homunculus, with the primary difference between the alchemist's definition of "homunculus" and "Numidium" being that Numidium was the size of a mountain rather than the size of a dwarf (although the "created in a flask" part is accurate, if interpreted as an analogy). It certainly did have terrible, god-like powers though. Since The Orsinium Area (according to Oblivion lore) has entered the Empire (consider the Orc Adventurer), it could be assumed The Hero of Daggerfall gave the Totem to Ortwog in the Oblivion chronology. --Uniblab 14:56, 1 June 2008 (EDT)

My ProblemEdit

Hi HMSVictory, you may remember the discussion we had a whiule ago where i mentioned a problem i had which i did not want to specify, well since then I have added a userbox to my page which explains this in case you are interested. --Volanaro 11:28, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Alright. Read and understood. I can't say I share your experience, but I hope there's some kind of familiarity. You know what I mean. --HMSVictoryTalk 12:59, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Sandbox pageEdit

Thanks for the revert but that was actually me testing anonymously to demonstrate a problem with the java-enhanced version of the Recent Changes page. :) --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 14:09, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Oops! Sorry, I've just got back from a wikibreak and I'm already missing tricks. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:20, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
No worries. I was supposed to revert it myself, but had to leave the computer for a while so I didn't get to it right away. It certainly wouldn't have been obvious to anybody not in the know, so there's no reason for you NOT to have reverted it. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 14:22, 6 June 2008 (EDT)

Dumb question...Edit

Okay, I realized why the title of the book "The Armour of Contempt" sounded familiar when mentioned in passing by a fellow counselor just now--your fanfic! Apparently, there's a sci-fi book with that title. Have you read it at all? If so, was it any good? Thanks in advance for the answer!

--Somercy ((No tilde key.))

Yup, I have it at home. I kinda stole the title, because it's pretty cool. The book is amazing. --HMSVictoryTalk 14:01, 13 June 2008 (EDT)
I've heard it's good. The person whose "Pixie" (kinda like camp Secret Santa) I am listed it as their favorite book, so I'm trying to figure out what it's about, and what similar books might be good gifts...but thanks for answering! --Somercy 18:35, 17 June 2008 (EDT)
Off-topic, in regards to your tilde, what keyboard layout are you using that you have no tilde? Or is it just broken? I can think of two solutions to your problem off-hand:
  1. Use the java-based version of the editor if you can, which has a signature button.
  2. Hold down the ALT key and type 126 on the numeric keypad...not the regular number keys at the top of your keyboard. This will give you a tilde in pretty much any application you use. Of course, doing this four times in a row for your sig would be rather a nuisance! --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 21:25, 17 June 2008 (EDT)

FanfictionEdit

Hey, we've been reformating the fanfiction pages and moving them from the General namespace to Userspace. I was wondering if you could update the links on your User page for us (We don't like to mess with user pages without permission). Specifically, the following links need to be changed:

  • General:Grammartime -> User:HMSVictory/Grammartime
  • General:The Armour of Contempt -> User:HMSVictory/The Armour of Contempt
  • General:The Tribunal's Seduction -> User:HMSVictory/The Tribunal's Seduction
  • General:New World Order -> User:HMSVictory/New World Order

Thanks.--Ratwar 14:22, 5 July 2008 (EDT)

It's been a month so I've relinked your fanfics to the versions in your user area. If you have any queries, please ask me. –RpehTCE 13:06, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

I REALLY NEED HELPEdit

As you are one of the mentors, I'm hoping that you can help me. I'm kind of new to the site. I mean, I've come here many times for advice, and it has all been very useful, but i wanted to try my hand at editing. Unfortunatly, I have NO idea what I'm doing. The page said you would show me the ropes. Can you please help me out? — Unsigned comment by Desaku (talkcontribs)

Wide-screenEdit

Not that it's horribly important, but one of your Userboxes says you play in widescreen: 1440 x 900 - 16:9. But assuming you have square LCD pixels, like most are, that's actually 16:10. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:47, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

HiEdit

Hi, I back to see what's new. From what I've seen, the policies are pretty much the same. I'm surprized to see that many of my Userboxen and User:Michaeldsuarez/Welcome haven't been deleted. I just want to know if anything here has changed, and I just didn't notice. These could be changes in the wiki's format, policies, or anything similar. Thanks. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk)/(Contribs) 20:47, 28 July 2008 (EDT)

Rule, BrittaniaEdit

Lucky you. I have to make do with USS Constitution and Constellation. The one has no topgallant yards and the other drops her entire rig in the winter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiRbJRNKyv8 — Unsigned comment by Temple-Zero (talkcontribs)
