Template talk:User Rank

InconsistencyEdit

You screwed up the final Court of Madness userbox in that table. It shows "Defender of the Realm" instead of Madgod. DaedryonTCE 00:51, 16 September 2008 (EDT)

Certainly not the best way to go about it, but the typo in the documentation has been fixed. --Timenn < talk > 03:18, 16 September 2008 (EDT)

TableEdit

The table is a little whack. The second and third column overlap a little.--Albinobear43 22:33, 18 September 2008 (EDT)

Which browser are you using? It's fine in IE7, Chrome, FF3 and Opera 9.52. –RpehTCE 01:11, 19 September 2008 (EDT)
Looks fine in Safari, too (3.1.2). --GuildKnightTalk2me 02:52, 19 September 2008 (EDT)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 I believe. — Unsigned comment by Albinobear43 (talkcontribs) on 19 September 2008
I don't see any overlap when I view the page in IE... could you post a screenshot? --GuildKnightTalk2me 21:44, 19 September 2008 (EDT)
Nevermind. Its not doing it anymore. It was probably just my computer's fault:P--Albinobear43 14:44, 28 September 2008 (EDT)

Template UpdateEdit

I'll redo the docs to our standard tomorrow, but just to cover some of the technical aspects of the changes:

  • All the rank names were removed from the template and the faction Rank_x values are #loaded instead. This creates a problem in that we don't have versions of these with the appropriate indefinite articles ("a" or "an") in front of them. It's a huge kludge but for now, I've programmed basic English rules into the template to use "an" with ranks that begin with either vowels or the word "Honor", which has a silent "h". If this template is used for TESV whenever it comes out, we may want to consider updating the Rank values to also include ARank values that have the correct article. Parsing out the first word and bolding the remainder is relatively trivial compared to implementing English rules. :)
  • Icons are also #loaded and are standardized to 45x45px instead of 50px. Rank-specific icons are used when found, falling back to the FactionIcon and then to the generic game icon as necessary.
  • The Nine Divines in the previous version assumed KoTN ranks would be used (and only the beginning one at that), showing the user as a Pilgrim. As another kludge, I've allowed for Layman at rank 0, but you have to specify a gender, even though you don't need it otherwise.
  • I fixed whether or not "the" is used in front of the faction name both in the category and in the text, so no more being "in the House" for our Morrowind users. This is less of a kludge than the a/an issue, and just uses some basic rules based on our existing page names. If it gets too complex with future changes, we can readily handle it case-by-case, perhaps also adding this to the Save Named Values section on each faction page.
  • It's no longer necessary to specify game= for factions that are unique to a given game. Those where there are duplicates will default to Oblivion, as they did previously.
  • Rank names will look for gender-specific names first, and if not found, will fall back to gender-neutral names (e.g., it checks for the named value Rank_0M and falls back to Rank_0).
  • There's better handling all around for missing data. Not flawless, but probably good enough unless a user totally ignores the documentation.

Yeah, okay, so "I have the dumb". I'll update the template (and from what I saw, the associated faction pages in some cases) to use the RankIcon data and ensure that all Ranks have both numeric and word forms (like most do for {{Faction}} later today. Robin Hoodtalk 16:36, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

What Is This? I Don't Have The Time To Look On The Page For An Answer......Edit

I don't know what a "User Template" is. Is it a picture of the "user on this wiki"'s rank in that faction, for role playing purposes, or is it to show other users what your rank is in a faction/guild in that game? OR, is it just some pic of a rank to put on a page( that would be sort of useless)? If it is for role-playing purposes, it is kind of cool, and seeing as i am a newer member, and don't know if this is true, I will ask. Can you actually make a page on your character, so-to-say, on your user file or page? if you could, you could give a pic of it, and some general info on your character.....But then again you're all probably looking at me like i have 2 heads, and that i may be a nerd, but the answer is:No. I am not a nerd, i just figured it would be cool to show other uers your info about your character and could send messages to each other giving help to the other if they need help, in-game or on this Wiki site. I could keep talking but i wont..... LukaSlayer13 20:31, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

You can write that statement on the talk page, but you don't have time to look on the actual page for the answer? It literally says in the first sentence: Provides a Userbox with the correct name, icon, and rank name for any of the common factions. Below, it shows multiple examples. And if you want more interaction there is a link to the forums to the left. --DKong27 Talk Cont 21:15, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim timeEdit

Are there any update for skyrim factions(Vvardfell 12:55, 9 March 2012 (UTC))

Does Skyrim have icons for the factions and/or ranks? I don't see them on the site and don't have the game yet, so I can't tell, but that'd be something we'd need first. Or at least some other stand-in image like we're using for Morrowind. Really this template mostly only works for Oblivion, because of the individual rank icons. --TheRealLurlock Talk 13:48, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
No, Skyrim doesn't make much use of icons. One could create icons from related graphics however. --Alfwyn 14:03, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

() I created Userboxes for all of the factions in Skyrim, plus some extras, in User:Vanondorf/UserRankSkyrim. Who would I talk to about adding them to this page? --VɅƝϴȠƊϴΓƑ ʂƥξαƙ 21:00, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

To be added to this page, they would have to be integrated as part of this template, not created as separate templates. --Enodoc (talk) 08:43, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm new. Really new. How exactly would I do that? --VɅƝϴȠƊϴΓƑ ʂƥξαƙ 21:00, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
Return to "User Rank" page.
