cancelation
is it possible that the cancellation is a april fools joke? (Eddie the head 08:28, 1 April 2011 (UTC))
-
- Then again, if you look at the statistics, you have to draw the conclusion that it is actually cancelled. First you have to look at the number of massive games with huge support and inumerable fans that are cancelled most of the way through developement. It's a very high number, I don't know for sure, but probably something close to 0.001%!!! Then, you look at how many people choose to release information on April 1st in hopes it'll be taken seriously, again, an extremely high number such as 0.0001%.
-
- Multiply those together, and you have a 0.0000001% chance of this being an april fools joke. The odds aren't good for Skyrim I'm sorry to say.--216.81.15.239 08:55, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

Possible reorganisation?
D'you think we should reorganise the page in the style of Morrowind and Oblivion's pages? - UnrealFragger (Not logged in) — Unsigned comment by 77.86.102.34 (talk) at 14:16 on 8 April 2011
- No. This page isn't a game index, it's an article on what we know about Skyrim. Why, what problem do you have with the current layout? Legoless 13:20, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
-
- Nothing, but it'd just tidier and more organised like the other Game pages and fits in more. - UnrealFragger (Still not logged in..)

- It wouldn't make red links. We'd put the current stuff into the relevant pages, and link only to pages that have been created and include more than just "In Skyrim you are the Dovahkiin. 'Nuff said." and that are relevant. - UnrealFragger 13:46, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

- No, it isn't necessary. But as I have said, it would be tidier and much more organised. And anyways, right now all the Skyrim front page is is a load of facts about the game and the lyrics to the trailer music. It probably doesn't even have the majority of Skyrim facts any ways. Look, the point is, is everything will be tidier and more professional looking. And I might as well get rid of those lyrics, they're pointless and anyone who really needs them to sing along to the trailer is just a lone, sad dude. (←) You see, this is just how the page works and yes, this is a wealth of knowledge about Skyrim, I suggest you read it.--Corevette789 13:55, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- I know it's a wealth of knowledge, and I already have read it. It's a perfectly good article, and I'm just saying that we could add in more info from other Skyrim-related articles, organize it and make it fit in with the other Game paages by doing what I suggested. I'm fighting a losing battle, I think I'll give up soon... - UnrealFragger 14:01, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
-
- You mean divide up the info into smaller pages? That would be pointless. If this article is missing info, please add it yourself with a link to your reference. If you want to divide up the info, do it with headings instead of separate pages (although I don't see anything majorly deserving of a whole section, to be honest). At the moment, we don't have enough info on anything to merit whole articles (apart from images), so I really don't get what you're trying to suggest. Legoless 14:13, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Skyrim logo in Oblivion?
Has anyone else noticed that the logo for Skyrim is on the doors that lead to the different districts in the Imperial City? If not, should this be noted anywhere? APSX3427 21:32, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

When was Skyrim Project started
I was wondering if anyone knew when Skyrim was started at Bethesda. I think past TES games took about five years to make.
They've probably been planning story since before Oblivion. A line from M'aiq could be construed as a hint of things to come. However, they probably won't have started actual alpha game development probably won't have started until a few months after release so they can gather feedback. I could, however, be entirely wrong. According to Todd Howard's talk in Utah (per http://www.vg247.com/2011/04/18/dragonborn-again-bethesda-shows-skyrim-in-utah/) last week, Skyrim was conceived in 2006 (around the time Oblivion was released), and development picked up steam after Fallout 3 was out the door in 2008. Rusty is correct it started sometime after Fallout 3 but was conceived sometime after Oblivion Secret Chief 14:56, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Lyrics?
Does anyone know the lyrics to the theme song in Dragon? I can't find a correct version anywhere. :( Apollo Quinn 01:11, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

The first line is the one sung in the well-known theme (though I believe the second line is sung first, when the classic TES theme takes over). These are undoubtedly the best lyrics, as they come from a near-infallible source: Bethesda (Game Informer's Skyrim issue to be precise). Kalis Agea 01:35, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
Preparation for Skryim
Though Skyrim is still a ways off, I think it is time we start a formal discussion on how we will deal with the new game. It so far has only been spoken about in less formal terms, or in the blog but I want to start a more formal conversation now for several reason:
- The game is still a while from release, but not so far that it isn't something we must start preparing for. The sooner we know what to do for when the game is released, the better.
- Preparation is the key to success, in any endeavor (No I don't remember who I am stealing that line from). The more prepared we are for what to do, the sooner the new articles we will soon be maintaining will be of a higher quality.
- Skyrim is likely to be our biggest game, and I have statistics to back that up as well. As UESPWiki:Statistics clearly shows, the site's traffic was at its highest when Skyrim was announced (At least from my interpretation of the chart). Since the games release itself is likely to be an even larger event than the announcement we will likely see record traffic. With this comes Trolls, vandals, and new users. Luckily we will likely see semi-active or inactive experienced editors return as well, but we still need to learn how to deal with all of the other newbies and trouble makers.
So does anyone have thoughts on what we should do? Any older discussions on what we did for the Shivering Isles or Oblivion Release? This isn't exactly urgent yet, but the sooner we get a general strategy for what to do the better. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:15, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- It's hard to make any concrete plans about which articles we'll have and what structure we'll use until we know a little more about how the game will work. Obviously, it will be done as similarly to the other games, especially Morrowind and Oblivion, as possible. As far as I can tell, the things we can decide on now would be:
- Are we going to make any temporary changes to our protection policy? For instance, I've heard mentioned temporarily forbidding anonymous editing, semi-protecting the Skyrim namespace, etc.
- How are we going to create articles? In the previous games, we've simply started the articles with minimal crude information and allowed the articles to evolve. Do we want to stick with that, or do we want to create articles elsewhere and move them to their final location when finished/close-to-finished?
- --GKtalk2me 03:43, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
-
- Just a thought, adding crude pages seems like it would be the best option. Why have any info at all if most people cant find it? And my vote goes to semi protecting the pages. The bad ideas added by IP's will probably outweigh the good.--Catmaniac66 03:46, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

-
- A lot depends on whether the file format can be decoded quickly. If it can, then RoBoT can create NPC, place and quest stubs for those pages, plus the usual redirects for items. That means that 99% of pages will be created quickly and with the correct names. If it can't, then a lot of page creation will have to be done by hand, which will probably get really messy really quickly. I blogged briefly about the problems we'll have with the new game here, and the followup posts on places, quests, NPCs and factions mention a few more thoughts on each topic.
-
-
-
- No matter what else happens, we're probably going to need more admins. At the moment, there's only Krusty and GK, although Timenn has said he'll be back and it looks like I'll be on the list too, and maybe one or two others will return. That gives us three European admins and one US admin, which definitely isn't enough on the US side of things. One thing that's been discussed before is the idea of temporarily giving people admin rights so we can deal with the influx. We'll certainly need to look at that idea again.
-
-
-
- We'll probably need to institute a temporary set of policies. This depends on the amount of traffic we get, but if it's really hectic, and we start getting a big vandal problem, then even our simple warning/block system will be too much. It'll be better to simply slap a 30 minute block on someone to fix the immediate problem, but not be too harsh. At the same time, we'll need to be more relaxed about people making mistakes - there'll be hundreds of new users who've never used a wiki before, and we can't expect them all to become instant experts.
-
-
-
- To some extent, we can create the "hub" pages in advance. We know there are going to be NPCs, quests, locations and monsters. We know that there's magic and alchemy. We know there will be skills and perks. I'd expect that a lot of the bullets on the Oblivion:Oblivion page will be seen again on Skyrim:Skyrim once the game appears. We know there was a full demo given to journalists last week, and the first stories about it should be emerging in the next couple of days. When those come out, we'll know more about what we need to do.
-
-
-
- The truth is, though, that no matter what we do, there's going to be a period when our Skyrim namespace isn't very good. We have people who can look at an Oblivion or Morrowind edit and either dismiss it straight away, check it really quickly, and fix it one way or the other. We won't have that for Skyrim for some time. There will be a time when things have quietened down a bit and we can go through at our leisure fixing the problems we've found, but at first it's going to be almost impossible to do that. rpeh •T•C•E• 08:50, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- What about making the all skyrim pages semi-blocked and watch the traffic. If the traffic is at record levels (it will probably, most definitely will be) we should keep the block up for maybe a month so we can set up some good pages for stuff, depending if RoBoT can generate them. How about setting up a project for the people who get the game on Nov 11 set up as many pages as possible for npcs, skills, the such before the influx? Thats just what im thinking.Kinvalor75 13:04, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
-
-
- I don't think protecting the namespace after launch will be a good idea, it will be off putting to the many people who show up to only contribute to that area of the site. There is also the problem with getting editors to edit after they get the game. A few of us (Most likely including myself) will be so sucked into the game they won't bother with their basic routine, let alone editorial duties on this site. Though it may seem strange letting the anons build this section of the site (if RoBot can't that is) it is better than nothing. Luckily I've heard it said that Bethesda will support the mod community again with new modding tools, so it should be possible to do what Rpeh suggested. Of course that might be problematic if the game is more like, say Daggerfall with random NPCs and the like.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- I think the greatest hope we have is that we will have enough information on certain important features or locations in the game to create those pages before they are needed, allowing the larger parts of the new traffic to be ushered into the developed parts of the gamespace. Evem if we can do this though this will be quite messy I guess. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 14:50, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

(←) Well there is no harm in starting a Skyrim article in a sandbox is there? The sooner we have more articles in Skyrim's space the better. I'm still looking over these articles but the few I have looked at at least offer some information, such as the Giant Frostbite Spider, Draugr, Giant, and Dragon all being confirmed creatures that will be encountered (Unless something changes between now and release). By themselves we don't know much about them(Well at this point it might be possible to start a Skyrim article about dragons as these seem to be an epicenter of game coverage) but a creature page may be soon possible. I see no reason not to at least start a Skyrim article in a user sandbox. Even if they aren't that useful now they might offer a little guidance on how our Skyrim articles should look after the game is launched. Or failing that it will be a good start on a more developed article for when Skyrim is actually released. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Request for a new Skyrim Article
Not sure if this is the best place for this, so if this would of been better somewhere else sorry.
A bit of a response to an above discussion. I have been working on an article for Skyrim's space for quite some time now in a sandbox. I wish to say that that sandbox won't really get much better under the care of a single editor. By which I mean that I believe that it is written just well enough to belong in Skyrim's space. So may an admin please move it to something like Skyrim:Dragon or Skyrim:Dragons? I'd usually ask if anyone has anymore problems with this page but I honestly believe that it will be best improved if it is moved out of my sandbox, allowing for more people to be aware that it exists and edit it. I'm simply not a good enough editor to continue working on this alone. So unless their is some horrible flaw with this that I have yet to notice, please move it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:49, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
I personally think that a few bits could have been written better. I wouldn't of mind having an extra image or two for the article as well. But besides that it is well cited, with a few more than our Skyrim Article has (Note: Nearly every single cite I used could easily be used here as well). I really tried to avoid speculation here, looking for citation on virtually everything and I tried removing as much as I could that wasn't cited or I couldn't find a citation. Besides my few qualms with the article though I think it is fairly decently written, and it is pretty much the authoritative article on all we know on these scaly beasts. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 20:21, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- AKB, I think I have created just the template for your situation. It's called "{Wipsandbox}", and it is just out of the experimental phase. Just type the template into any public article that your sandbox is based on, fill in the parameters, add your request in the notes, et voila, you will have a link direct to your sandbox, to funnel editors in, and this shall allow you to harvest their knowledge. Once your article is up to your expectations, just transplant it into the existing title. This should work, theoretically...- Neural Tempest 20:23, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

- I hate video interviews, but I'll try to watch it later. Separate cells is very different from separate worlds though. All MW's cities were in different cells, but nobody noticed (unless they took a moment or two to load). Oblivion used entirely different worlds, which meant that they looked different depending on whether you were inside the city or outside it, and there were bugs if you managed to jump out of or in to a city. rpeh •T•C•E• 21:32, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

- Basically Todd's saying that the bigger cities have loading screens, but they will be able to drop that in the future on next-gen consoles. He saying something like graphic detail having reached a maximum when it comes to distant view, claiming that any higher detailed distant objects would look the same because they're far away, so in the future, they wouldn't have to decide on where to invest the memory (better distant view or better looking people etc.). There's a lot of interesting things he had to say, like creatures being developed more in-depth as to where they live and how, e.a. the giants have their own camps and "pets": mammoths, and they live their own kind of lifestyle. You should check it out ~ Dwarfmp 23:12, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Children are Monsters- really?
Skyrim writeup: " Mounts have been confirmed as something the team is looking into. Hostile creatures include mammoths, giant spiders, elk, trolls, ice wraiths, zombies, sabre-toothed cats, giants, wolves, skeletons and dragons. Children are also featured in the game.[1][4] " Sorry, I just have to ask, would it not be better if the sentence about children were further down the article? The way it reads now seems to say that children are a creature to be killed for profit. I am not at all sure that was not the intention, but it is funny this way. I suggest it be moved four lined down where the NPC faces are described. 75.31.24.72 04:40, 12 May 2011 (UTC)etainne

This would effectively make both PS3 and XBox equal to the PC. This is, however, the only news involving this sort of thing. --Kalis Agea 00:20, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

- Yeah, I had an XBox (got it with Oblivion, it just died in February) and I recall either mods put onto consoles didn't work well or it was illegal :\ I never tried it. --Kalis Agea 02:04, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Weapons
i was just wondering. I thought i read somewhere that there wasn't short sword and long sword just a sword i was wondering if this was true? f there isn't any info on this thats all good — Unsigned comment by 122.56.4.130 (talk) at 01:28 on May 20, 2011
- since they seem to be simplifying many of the weapon/attributes, I'm guessing they'll stay with how it is on Oblivion for the "Blade" skill; which covered every blade, from daggers to shortswords to longswords to claymores. SKADOOSHHH 07:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
