Shadowkey talk:Shadowkey
Hidden GameEdit
Why isn't this page in the 'sections' tab? It is a TES game, and it's kind of hidden if you want to find it. — Unsigned comment by 75.170.89.243 (talk) on 27 May 2009
- Because a decision was taken, without debate, by persons unnamed, not to include it. Given the amount of resistance I had to overcome to keep Battlespire and Redguard on the list, I didn't think it was worth fighting for poor Shadowkey. But I'd appreciate hearing the "real" reason. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 15:39, 27 May 2009 (EDT)
- To say that a "decision was taken" and imply that said decision was somehow covertly made is a bit extreme. Prior to January 2007, there was no Shadowkey content on the site. Therefore, when the Sidebar was first created (in November 2005), Daveh "decided" not to include Shadowkey in the sidebar: is he to blame for not having the prescience to realize that 14 months later Shadowkey content would be added? There was never a decision to remove it from the sidebar; it simply was never added, and I'm not sure how anyone can be blamed for not making a change that has never previously been proposed -- or for the fact that the subconscious non-decision to not take an action was never debated.
- Now that the subject has been brought up, however, my first reaction is that Shadowkey:Shadowkey has only been viewed 29,000 times. Even Redguard and Battlespire have been viewed ten times more than that; Morrowind and Oblivion 200+ times more. Adding more entries into the "sections" box on the sidebar pushes other, arguably more important, sidebar links further down, so that readers now have to scroll to find those entries.
- However, another option that might be worth considering is to split the "sections" box in two: keep the most-frequently used game links where they are (Lore, Oblivion, Shivering Isles, Morrowind, perhaps), then create a second box at the bottom of the sidebar (below the toolbox) with all of the other game links, including Shadowkey. That allows all of the game links to still be accessible from every page on the site (even as more games are added in the future), but also makes it easier to to use the community and toolbox links. If it's a potentially acceptable compromise, then it probably needs further discussion on the Community Portal to work out the details. --NepheleTalk 17:44, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

- Correction. Whether to add Shadowkey to the sidebar was previously discussed, once, as part of this discussion: UESPWiki:Archive/CP Mobile Game Page Names. The discussion originally took place on the Community Portal, where it was visible to everyone in the community. (As far as I know, that discussion is also the only time that removing Battlespire and Redguard from the sidebar has been discussed on the site.) At the time, the Shadowkey namespace did not yet exist, maybe ten Shadowkey-related articles had been created, and the only editor (at the time) who was contributing Shadowkey content did not think that Shadowkey should be added to the sidebar. So I don't think it's particularly surprising that no action was taken, or even that no effort was made to bring the discussion back to that question and reach a conclusion, after the discussion was diverted into what to do with Shivering Isles.
- Furthermore, in the two and a half years since that first discussion, I have not been intentionally avoiding restarting this debate. I simply forgot that the idea had been mentioned -- and most of the other participants in the discussion are no longer active, so they can't exactly be held responsible for not resurrecting an idea that wasn't even well-received the first time around.
- In any case, none of that is particularly relevant to the current question, which is whether to add Shadowkey to the sidebar now that there is a Shadowkey namespace containing hundreds of articles (thanks almost entirely to all of the work that Rpeh has put into Shadowkey documentation). --NepheleTalk 22:05, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

- I missed Nephele's responses until now, so apologies for the late reply. Apologies also for the very badly-worded earlier comment made, although it's not an excuse, when I was tired and annoyed. The response was aimed at a discussion (may have been on IRC) about removing Redguard and Battlespire from the list but that discussion didn't include Shadowkey so I shouldn't have brought it up.
- The reason I think Shadowkey should be included is that I believe most people don't realise it exists or that we have content on it. The argument about page views is circular: we won't include it on the sidebar because it doesn't have many page views <-> it doesn't get views because it's not on the sidebar. Even though I'm one of only two editors who have contributed much to the SK namespace I sometimes forget it's there for the simple reason it's not on the list.
- I'm not going to suggest that we include Dawnstar or Stormhold on the list because we don't have any content about them. If anybody was ever to write some decent material for those games, I'd be in favour of having them on the sidebar too. (As a sidenote, are these the worst ever advertised games in history? I want to buy them and am quite prepared to buy a phone specifically to play them but can't find any decent info on where to go either for the game or the phone - there's just a vague list on the developer's page).
- It's true that SK is not widely-known, and it's true it's a bit primitive these days but it's still worth playing (I really enjoyed it) and you get a fantastic feeling when you eventually switch back to a proper monitor and load Oblivion again.
- If there's a full discussion about inclusion, I'm going to recuse myself from the vote because of my self-interest, but I'd express a hope that SK makes it to the sidebar. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 17:54, 19 June 2009 (EDT)

- As a random Morrowind surfer that landed on this page, I also found it strange that there wasn't an easy way to find this game via the sidebar, either as a stand-alone link or an "All Games" page. Reading the archived Community Portal discussion (I think), I agree with the suggestion for an "All Games" page that would list all the games and maybe the available platforms for them. It took me a while just to figure out what this Shadowkey game was about because the only general information on the platform is "N-Gage Release Date" which I didn't notice right away, and the page's category which I looked at after realizing it was for a phone, and wondering why it wasn't listed in the sidebar. 71.194.76.252 06:20, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

- I think that it would be a good idea to have an 'All Games' link, linking to a page listing all the games, their platforms, release dates etc. Perhaps it could be put underneath the 'All Content' link? My reason for suggesting this is that it would be incredibly useful for TES fans to see what other games there are (and for what platforms) - I for one didn't even know Shadowkey existed! However, I agree that the smaller games such as Shadowkey probably don't need their own entries on the sidebar. Daniellibus 16:54, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Bend'r-Mahk regionEdit
Is the area in Shadowkey called Bend'r-Mahk, or is the word lacking any meaning. I'm asking because the Witch Tree page refers to the area as the Bend'r-Mahk region. With that being said, would Upper Craglorn technically be called Bend'r-Mahk since it has Dragonstar and Loth'Na, and it's the closest place in Hammerfell connecting to Skyrim and High Rock at the same time? --Vincentius1 (talk) 19:09, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- The only mention of the phrase in this game is the Mahk Longsword item. The game's official map calls the region the "High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim Border". —Legoless (talk) 21:36, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
