Detailed WalkthroughEdit
South of Frostmoon Farmstead you may find a mage along the path, with a portal behind her. You can enter the portal before accepting the quest, but it will teleport you directly to Frostheart House in Riften.
Talking to the mage, Mareki, she will express her frustrations to you.
- "About time Harnald sent someone. I need help here!"
- What's going on?
- "That dumb Harnald sent me to find out what the Worm Cult is doing at the dragonshrine here. I can't even get close enough, there's too many of them.
What sort of brother sends his sisters into danger like this?" - I don't know, but can I help?
- "Maybe. Can you get up there and stop whatever they're doing? They can't be up to any good."
- Sure, I can try.
At this point you will receive the quest, but can still continue dialogue with Mareki. Exiting and re-entering dialogue will also give the same response.
- "Harnald's supposed to send a scout. I hope he hasn't forgotten."
- And the scout knows where the cultists are?
- "He better or Harnald's going to get an earful from me. The scout should lead you to the dragonshrine."
Having accepted Ritual at the Dragonshrine, a Scout will appear to follow and assist you. He greets you by saying:
- Scout: "You ready? Let's go see what we're up against."
He is also very bloodthirsty, as when you talk to him he says
- "This is it—let's wipe them out!"
Heading south along the path to the shrine, you will have to either defeat or pass by several different types of Worm Cultists including Worm Savages, Worm Adepts, Worm Slayers, and Worm Bonelords.
Once you and the scout are near the ritual site, he will comment:
- Scout: "This is what we came here for. Let's take out these buggers!"
Scaling the steps, you will see a trio of cultists, which can be made up of Worm Cult Necromancers and/or Worm Cult Savages surrounding a Daedric sigil on the ground. No matter how fast they are defeated, once they die the sigil will begin summoning undead in waves.
The first two waves will each be made up of three undead, being a chance to be one or more Honored Blademaster(s), Honored Firebow(s), and/or Honored Strongarm(s). The third and final wave will only have two of those enemy types, but will also summon a Bone Colossuswhat's the correct term for "lvl 2 difficulty boss", who will summon Risen Dead occasionally. Upon defeating the final wave, the scout will exclaim:
- "That's it, right? I thought they were going to kill us both!"
If you manage to talk to him before he leaves, he'll be a tad cocky about your victory:
- "We sure showed those bastards, eh?"
Shortly after ending the threat, he will run a short distance away and disappear with a smoke bomb. Returning to Mareki, she will be pleased with your efforts.
- "Looks like you've done some good work here."
- I think your Worm Cult problems are settled, for now at least.
"That's a relief. Now to give Harnald a piece of my mind!"
With that, the quest will be completed and she will give you a small amount of gold. If you speak to her again, she will applaud you.
- "Those cultists were nasty pieces of work. Sure glad Harnald sent you along to help out!"

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
