Game Won't Save

I play on the oblivion ps3 GOTY edition and my game won't save =(. Any ideas?

Your game could be damaged. (Disk scratched, etc.)--Arch-Mage MattTalk 14:28, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, your memory card could be full.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 14:28, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
In any case, it isn't a glitch; and unfortunately we are not a tech-support forum. --SerCenKing Talk 21:01, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Just had this problem so I know how to fix it now, put simply, leave your PS3 in a warm/cold place after you turn it off. After about 2-3 hours it fixes. It will also effect (or affect, im not sure anymore) other games if that is the problem though. Mikeyboy52 01:56, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Adding to Frostcrag Spire Glitch

If you travel Northwest from the test area it comes to a two inch deep endless ocean, but there are trees in the distance if you head towards them an island appears and once you get on it a huge wall appears with an arch and and a walkway with the Bruma torches on it. If you keep walking northwest you'll come upon a settlement, I found a Renoit's Books(cant be entered), a stable and a "Grant's farm house interior test" with a zombie inside (possibly an unused quest area), also if you continue forward you'll see a large castle and you cant enter it completely but as you approach the wall becomes invisible and inside looks like the courtyard of Skingrad's Castle. One other thing of note, If you click on any current quest that gives you an arrow to follow, it will show a green arrow in a random location on the island. Oddly enough, except for the Finding the Thieves Guild quest, but that's all I've found so far. — Unsigned comment by 70.246.87.115 (talk) at 00:28 on 9 June 2010

I've seen the same things. Pretty neat IMO. BrenMan 94 05:38, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Note: Renoit's Books and the building next to it can be entered, just walk through the doors! But all you see is the substructure. And if you go past the stable in that area, you'll find 'Grant's Farmhouse.' If you go all the way up to the attic, there will be a 'snoring' non-hostile zombie. It will only attack if you draw your weapon, and is an easy kill but carries nothing. 71.232.126.201 14:54, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Mike

A weird glitch

Discussion moved from Oblivion talk:Shadowmere#A weird glitch Vesna 02:46, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

This has nothing to do with shadowmere but i found a weird glitch involving martin and a priory horse.after issuing some battle with martin i hoped on his priory horse(which i thought was my bay) and fast traveled to the camp below kavatch.when it finished loading i couldn't move the horse properly and soon noticed i was riding inside martin (i could only move a few feet before he brought the horse back to juffre).i could dismount the horse and martin stayed on.any one else encounter this? — Unsigned comment by Cronan (talkcontribs) at 23:51 on 12 June 2010

Had it happen once, thought it was a one off type of thing.. MikeTalk 06:36, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Likely this is caused by Martin being scripted to get on that horse but not to check for other people already on it. But "likely" is as far as I can go with this theory since I play OB on the PS3.--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 17:43, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Blank Screen on loading and making new games

Oblivion was working for me for about 4 months before this happened completely randomly. I was trying to get onto Oblivion. I got to the loading screen normally - the screenshots for the different saves looked completely fine - but when I loaded ANY of them, I ended up in a blank world with a colored screen. A save in an oblivion gate would end up dull red, a save at dive rock ended up dark blue. I could see nothing. You could still see the stats of your character at the bottom, and you could pull up your inventory. I tried to reset the graphics using 'CAL' in the console (which I can get onto as well), but nothing was affected when I closed out of the console. Does anyone know what's going on and/or how to fix it? 75.232.22.199 12:17, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

This sounds like some of your textures have become corrupted, either on their own or from a mod. Try reinstalling the game "bare bones" (i.e., without any mods) and see if it works, then if it does, re-install any mods one or two at a time and test after each install. Robin Hoodtalk 16:01, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
couldnt you just manually replace the texture files? I know that works for "bare bones" oblivion. My texture file had become corrupt because of a stupid program I installed and ran. Replacing the texture file worked well enough. MikeTalk 08:27, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Random dismount glitch

I was in the wilderness on Shadowmere and for some reason I had to get off of my horse (wild animal I think) anyway I got off and then found I couldn't move, I could see but I couldn't swing my weapon. I remounted Shadowmere looked behind me and found out I'd just been stuck in a rock. Don't know if this is common but thought I'd mention it. I play on the xbox. 90.216.105.177 20:40, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

If you were stuck on a rock, you should have been able to swing your sword/cast spells. Not to mention the placement of shadowmere would have had to be a once in a lifetime type of thing. MikeTalk 15:50, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Lol that's happened to me a couple of time to on the ps3, what I did was just attempt to move & after a few minutes, I got unstuck. MrSensiBob 01:03, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
The problem is that you dismounted and got stuck in midair, there was probably more than one rock with a steep slope, right? you couldnt swing your sword because your acrobatics is too low, usually this can be fixed by moving in a single direction for a while Pirate34 11:15, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Master Armorer Skill Training Quest Bug On PS3

When starting the Master Armorer Skill Quest on PS3, the character Gin-Wulm of the Imperial City that will train you up to level 100 in the Armorer Skill wants you to answer a question for him which is What does the name Hazadir mean to you? If you haven't read a book called The Armorer's Challenge you will only get a response of Nothing to say. Then Gin-Wulm will tell you in a bit of conversation that you can find a book written about Hazadir at The First Edition book shop in The Imperial City. Well on the PS3 versions of the game, Phintias the owner of The First Edition, doesn't have the book in his inventory for sale nor is there a copy of it on any of the bookshelves in the store. To get around this problem, you must go to the Fighters Guild in Cheydinhal and up to the second floor. There on top of the large shelf is a copy of the book. This is the only other copy of "The Armorer's Challenge" in the game and is the only way players on the PS3 can finish the Master Armorer Skill Quest. --Chris McCallum 16:08, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I've had this bug too just to confirm it.--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 16:46, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
The book shouldn't be on his bookshelves, it should be on his person. By the point in the game where you're looking for it, it's very easy to have bought/pickpocketed it from him and then re-sold/dropped it without ever actually having read it. Is it possible that that's what's going on here? Even using an unmodded new game on the PC, I see it in Phintias' inventory every time. Robin Hoodtalk 18:37, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
It could be something like The Unwelcome Guest.--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 19:42, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi folks, I am the original writer of this problem. This problem only occurs on PlayStation 3 versions of the game not on the PC and I don't know about the Xbox 360. When I wrote about it above I abbreviated PlayStation 3 as PS3. I've played Oblivion on PC and never had this problem but everytime I get to this point in the game on the PS3, Phintias never has the book in his inventory for sale and the first time it happened I looked all around the shop for it on the bookshelves with no luck. I then looked up the book The Armorer's Challenge on this web site and found that another copy was available for reading on the second floor of the Fighters Guild in Cheydinhal on the top of the large shelf up there. If this copy had not been included in the game, the player would not be able to complete The Master Armorer's Skill Quest as there are no other copies of the book anywhere in the game. Anyways I hope that what I just wrote now clears things up. The problem occurs only on the PS3 versions as far as I know. --Chris McCallum 20:57, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

It's all but unheard of for something like this to manifest only on one platform, though it's entirely possible that it's some aspect of the game that's causing the problem and testing at the beginning of the game just isn't showing it. I know it's a nuisance, but I'd be curious to know if Phintias has the book or not if you start a new game and go straight to The First Edition when you get out of the prison. Robin Hoodtalk 21:28, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
See here. The book is in his inventory, it's not in his merchant's list however. And I agree that it looks like it's only a problem on the PS3. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 21:34, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
That actually makes more sense. I can see how a mistake in the PS3 executable could cause inventory items not to be sold (or conversely, a mistake in the PC executable causing them to be when they shouldn't). What's more, this matches several reports I was able to find while Googling: on the PS3, it won't appear for sale, but it is still pick-pocketable from him. Given the consistency of the reports and the solution, with every one of them that I could find saying that they were on the PS3, I think it's fair to say that on the PS3, he won't sell it to you, but he does have it if you want to steal it from him. Robin Hoodtalk 21:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

It looks like I am getting a lot of feedback on this problem which is good. I do beleive this problem is a PS3 problem only. I've played through the game on the PC several times and never had this problem but with the PC you can download a bunch of patches that will fix just about all the problems with the game. This is not available to PS3 owners. From all the research I've done on Oblivion for PS3, I am not surprised by all the bugs I've come across in it. This is just one of hundreds I've dealt with and yes it is just a small nuisance but thankfully there is a way around it. I didn't buy the PS3 just for gaming purposes. It is one of the best Blu-Ray players on the market and it also does digital music and photos and plays regular DVDs as well. I now have all of my entertainment in one machine and I love it. I am glad I chose the PS3 over the Xbox 360. Anyways please keep the comments and suggestions coming. I like the feedback. --Chris McCallum 22:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

In almost all cases, an unpatched PC and PS3 game will behave the same, which is why I was suggesting that it could be some other issue. You seem to have found one of the very rare instances where they don't behave the same. Good work, and thanks for reporting it. If you haven't noticed, I've already noted the bug on the Armorer Training page. Robin Hoodtalk 22:36, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I am glad that you posted this problem to the Armorer Training page Robin Hood. I was hoping it would eventually end up there for more people to see. As I am new to posting things to this web site, I don't know exactly how things work just yet. I only just joined in today. I've never played the game as a sly thief, pickpocketing people of their items. Next time I play a new game I'll have to give playing the bad guy a try on Phintias to see if he does indeed have the book on him available for pickpocketing. I am playing a straight up Warrior character now. I've never played a mage or thief as I like to go in hacking and after the battle I take care of the damage. Usually I generate a custom class but the last time I did that I chose major skills that allowed me to get up to level 40 easily and I was getting attacked by Liches with drain fatigue staves and I when your fatigue gets completely drained you fall down unconscious and then the monsters can have their way with you. Anyways I appreciate all your feedback. --Chris McCallum 22:55, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Freezing issue on duplication glitch?

When I attempt to duplicate huge amounts of items & then try to switch spells, my game freezes (I tried it 5 times and it froze each time). Would this be a glitch within a glitch, or does my game just have an issue (I play on the ps3). MrSensiBob 01:08, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I use the scroll duplication glitch on PS3 mainly on Vampire Dust to give to Roland Jenseric for 250 gold pieces each after completing The Order Of The Virtuous Blood Quest to build up my gold as gold is hard to come by in the game. I also use it on other items such as Lockpicks, Soul Gems and any other item I feel that I might want more than one of. I've read that if you try to duplicate way to many items it can crash your game say 1000 so I only do 100 or less at a time and I have never had a problem. My question to you is how many are you trying to do at a time? Doing to many can mess up your frame rate processing and crash the game. The PS3 can only process so much at a time until it says no can't handle all that and crashes. Anyways try doing just 100 or less and see if that helps. I know it may take longer to get the amount of items you want but it is better than having the game crash on you. --Chris McCallum 12:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I guess I should elaborate a little bit more on the use of the scroll duplication glitch on PS3 when you want to duplicate 100 items at a time. So here it is. The first 100 will work just fine but if you try to duplicate 100 more of the 100 you already have, only 1 stack of 100 will be dropped. What you have to do is drop say 75 of the 100 before activating dupication glitch which will leave you with 25 then activate the glitch and drop the remaining 25. This will leave 1 stack of 75 and 3 or 4 stacks of 25 of whatever you are trying to duplicate on the ground. I do this mainly with the Vampire Dust collected in The Order Of The Virtuous Blood Quest because the character Roland Jenseric will give you 250 gold pieces for each Vampire Dust you turn in to him. In my opinion, the game is poorly balanced in the amount of gold you come across vs. the cost of things like houses for sale in the cities. I know this is cheating and some people say cheating is wrong but this is just a video game and I feel you can play it anyway you want because it doesn't harm anything or anyone to cheat on a video game. --Chris McCallum 13:22, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Certain Items on the ps3 goty version cant handle mass duping, like one of the paintbrushes (the one that hovers, not the "diving" one). MikeTalk 15:13, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I was duplicating around 400 imperial legion shields at the time (in stacks of 4), so would the item be the issue? MrSensiBob 16:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay well it also depends on your system. PC can handle a lot more than the consoles. 400 is a lot for anything really.--Corevette789 17:05, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Yes, this would definitely cause the PS3 to crash. Large items such as weapons and armor when mass duplicated like that, cause serious information overload for the PS3 and it crashes. Your best bet if you want to duplicate weapons and armor is to do 2 at a time. Use 2 scrolls and duplicate one weapon or armor at a time. I've done this many a time and had no problems. If your purpose for mass producing weapons and armor is to gain gold you may be spinning your wheels. Do what I've written about above and mass duplicate the Vampire Dust from The Order Of The Virtuous Blood Quest. Vampire Dust is very small and weighs only 0.1 so if your strength attribute is high, you can carry a lot of Vampire Dust around with you. Duplicate say 1000 Vampire Dusts and take them to Roland Jenseric after completing the quest and in no time you will have 250,000 gold as Roland gives you 250 gold for each Vampire Dust you give him. The only draw back to this is that you can only give him one at a time so you have to keep pressing the (X) button on the controler over and over again and this can cause a hand and forearm cramp sometimes. Also make sure you store say 25 Vampire Dusts in a storage chest in one of your houses so you can repeat the process if necessary. I use my Imperial City Waterfront District House as my storage house and it is close to the Temple District where Roland Jenseric hangs out in Seridur's basement after you complete the quest. --Chris McCallum 17:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Not quite wheel-spinning if he dupes sigil stones also, then he can get several thousand per item since ha can duplicate these right in front of a merchant it actually is more efficient this way.--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 19:57, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

TheAlbinoOrc is right about that. In order get the most out of duplicating Sigil Stones, you need to have at least a level 17 character. When your character is level 17, you get the most powerful Sigil Stones available. I just made a set of 180% Chameleon Clothing today out of duplicating a Sigil Stone with 30% Chameleon on it so I can get through the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood Quests without ever getting caught by the guards (you actually only need 120% Chameleon to be fully concealed but I like 180%). You do have to go through the process of closing an Oblivion Gate and when you are looking for a certain Sigil Stone like I was, it might take 5 tries to get it or it could take 20+. What I do is I save the game right at the Sigil Stone so if I don't get the one I want, I load the saved game again and again until I do. Anyways the next time I close an Oblivion Gate I will try TheAlbinoOrc's suggestion of duplicating a Sigil Stone to get gold and see how it goes. --Chris McCallum 20:56, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I have another idea about dupicating Sigil Stones to get gold. Instead of duplicating the Sigil Stone itself to make items, make one item from the stone and duplicate that item. That way you won't have to go through the naming of the item process that occurs when creating items from Sigil Stones directly. I am going to try this to see if it works on the amulet I made today with a Sigil Stone that has 30% Chameleon on it. It is worth 2100 in gold and if this works it definitely would be a more efficient way of building up your gold than the Vampire Dust way. --Chris McCallum 21:55, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I tried the idea I mentioned above just now and it doesn't work. You can't duplicate an item made from a Sigil Stone on the PS3. The game freezes and you have to cut off the machine using the on and off button on the machine itself as it renders the controler useless. Oh well, it was a good idea. --Chris McCallum 22:36, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

While using the GOTY version I can dupe anything enchanted with the sigil stone. perhaps it was a specific stone... MikeTalk 11:41, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
Oh yeah, even 100 percent works fine, although a perfect 100 is hard to achieve unless you do certain quests at certain lvls. MikeTalk 11:52, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mike, I am playing off a plain Oblivion disc instead of the GOTY which I did have at one point but got rid of because of all the glitches and bugs I was experiencing with it. I tried to duplicate an amulet that I had created with a Sigil Stone that had 30% Chameleon on it and the game crashed immediately. The original item it was created from was Anora's True Amulet that you get when you do the Two Sides Of The Coin Quest in Bruma. I like this amulet because it looks like the Amulet Of Kings and it looks good on a character dressed in red colored clothing which is what I use to make my Chameleon Suit. I don't know why it crashed. It could've been that particular Sigil Stone or it could have been the type of item I was trying to duplicate or the original item that the item was created from. I guess I could try it again on one of the Clothing items I created to see if I get the same problem. Anyways keep the feedback coming as it had been most helpful. --Chris McCallum 17:07, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I just figured out the problem of duplicating an item created by a Sigil Stone. It was the amount of the item I was trying to do. I decided to test this as I thought it might be the culprit so I first duplicated only 5 of my amulets with 30% Chameleon on it and it worked just fine. Then I tried to duplicate my usual 100 and the game crashed again. So that leads me to beleive that when duplicating an item created by a Sigil Stone you should keep the quantity low. How high you can go, I don't know but 100 is to much for some reason. Anyways just wanted to share that tid bit of info. --Chris McCallum 17:07, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Lol chris... is vampire dust all you care about (no offense :)). By the way, thanks y'all for all the help!

The Vampire Dust duplication method is the best for a low level character when you want to build up your gold fast. The Sigil Stone duplication method is best for higher level characters as you don't get the best Sigil Stones until you reach level 17. I also duplicate lockpicks, soul gems, potions and anything else I might want more than one of or a bunch of so I don't have to purchase but one from a vendor. I take no offense to the above sentence. I guess I did kind of go overboard with the Vampire Dust method as it is so easy to do. Anyways enough said on this issue. I am moving on to other stuff on this web site. I've created my user page and I am learning how to edit it. Feel free to take a look at it anytime and make helpful suggestions if you have any. As a novice editor, I need all the help I can get. --Chris McCallum 19:42, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I'd have to disagree, If you clear out vilverin you find a varla stone that you can dupe for up to 557 per time to carandhil (i think that was his name) than you can buy his unique weapon, dupe that and sell. This way you can get high-level items at even level one. Especially heavy armor. MikeTalk

That was supposed to say unique armor and I found out that duping 12000 apples is no problem for the PS3 MikeTalk 08:20, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Visual effects linger/doors & gates won't open!

I thought long & hard about posting this, and searched the archives of glitches, so I really really apologize if I'm describing something that's already been covered.

I've been playing for some time with one character, and now visual effects from spells linger both for me and NPC's. I'll use a Detect Life spell and be seeing bubbles for a long time afterward. I'll shoot fireball spells and a nice little fireball remains where the spell hit. I'll heal an NPC and they'll walk around with a blue halo. And so forth. Additionally, some flames (like the ones on the Imperial City bridges) won't flicker at all.

Furthermore, doors and gates won't swing open! Meaning, doors within dungeons & houses and gates at farms - ones that don't lead to separate cells. They won't open for me!

I suspect it may be an Xbox 360 cache problem, as Google searches found people discussing things similar but not as extensive as my problem. However, I don't want to do anything stupid before seeking advice!

Once again, I apologize if I what I am describing is a standard glitch that you all have addressed before. Thanks in advance for any help! xoxo Coryl 05:45, 27 December 2008 (EST)

It is not unique to Xbox. I started a new game a few days ago because of this glitch on PC with D2D version. Doors and gates would open, but took a very, very long time and still wouldn't be fully open a minute or so after the sound. It took like 10 - 15 seconds before they would start to open and usually at least another 10 - 15 seconds before they were open wide enough to squeeze through. Display cases were also affected. Oddly, although some fires were nearly frozen from first appearance on screen, torches would start as normal then slowly start to leave faded patches in their wake. Visual effects of spells were as you described. This started after about 240 Oblivion days and progressively got worse. I thought it might be caused by the Oblivion Lamps mod, but I still had it after loading a save with the mod disabled. Otherwise, I only had the Wizard's Tower DLC. Oblivionated 06:43, 29 January 2009 (EST)
I'm having the same problems as cory1 and oblivionated, so I included their posts that I found in the archives. I'm having all of the visual effects mentioned above. (An interesting effect that is happening now are that butterflies appear almost stationary overhead.) I think this glitch began quite some time ago when I noticed distracting orbs from my torch but learned to live with it. (I'm not sure what day I was on at that time.) Now the Spell visual effects that I cast, or are cast on me, linger around, even after an NPC is dead, AND most troublesome are the doors that physically swing open, or gates in Ayleid ruins etc are opening very slowly. I am playing on PC with only the Official Mod and am currently on day 252. It seems that the door glitch started about the same time as Oblivionated. I hate to put anymore time into this game character because it may progress to the point that these doors do not open at all like Cory1. I only do New Saves, and I have always deleted all of my saved games daily in an effort to control any corrupted files. Is there a fix for this problem? I've spent most of my time till now on efficient leveling and not progressing the story line. Is it possible create a new character with level and skill/attribute levels to match my character and approximate my quest log and possessions using the console? Summertime Deja Vu 20:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes all that is possible using the console (sorry if you had a good face though I don't think the console can help with that).--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 19:44, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

This is a very well-known bug, usually referred to as the animation bug or Abomb bug. If you do a search using those terms, you should find more info. From what I've read, this bug will eventually affect every game (regardless of platform) if the game logs enough real-time hours (I think it's about 400 hrs. for the PS3, less for the PC, not sure about the Xbox). If you are on PC, the good news is that there is a patch (the link is somewhere on the site--I think it's on the Oblivion: Technical Support page) that will allow you to fix the bug. Unfortunately, PS3 owners are out of luck (again, not sure about the Xbox). It is a VERY frustrating bug, and is universally despised as it can ruin hundreds of hours of gameplay for some people!71.224.13.163 12:13, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Marcus

Hmm. Not entirely sure just how many hours of gameplay I've got but one of my saves used to have more than 400 if I remember correctly and Mhira was definitely fine. Unfortunately though there an accidental save-over so I can't check this. Also could this be related to the Reference Bug ?--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 16:34, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your suggestion. I did find on the Unofficial Oblivion Patch page where they talked about the animation bug like you said. According to this page you can use the repair abomb setting on a saved game if you install and learn to use Wrye Bash (and possibly install Wrye Python before wrye bash). I'm just not sure if I have the time to learn a complicated mod program. Do you have any advise on installing Wrye Bash and using Repair Abomb? Summertime Deja Vu 22:53, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I'd only recommend using Wrye Bash if you were already going to use it for some other reason. Otherwise, it's overkill to install that just to fix the Abomb bug. Try the Animation Fixer linked to here. It's smaller and dedicated to this particular problem, so it's easier to use if this is all you need to do. Just run it any time the animations become problematic. Robin Hoodtalk 23:04, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Loot bag with "Missing Name' arrows appears from nowhere near Bravil, game lags and freezes.

So I was walking towards Bravil and I had a couple of dead people following me with Staff of Worms and a summoned Dremora Lord. I passed by the stables and as I saw the Obivion Gate near Bravil my game started lagging. After a minute or two it stopped and I saw a loot bag half inside the road, yet there were no duplicated items around to cause lagging or the loot bag. I opened it and there were Missing Name arrows. I grabbed them equipped them and the arrows had the same model as the broken candle glitch (a big yellow square with a ! in the middle.) Then the game froze after lagging again. And I noticed it started to lag both times when the frog croaks started up (near Bravil at night you can hear frogs croaking)

Has anyone else had this happen? Lionwolf9069 02:22, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

dnt drop anything or take anything with missing name bcos if u drop shoot or other stuff it will freeze ur game happened to me wen i was duplicating using the staff of worms skull of corruption way (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User:Jf2010)

Item-stacking to recharge weapons

I was using a charge-depleted Hatred's Soul as my primary weapon and went to Random Oblivion World 2 and picked up a second Hatred's Soul. At some point, just after repairing all my items (to 125%), I switched to a different weapon. The depleted Hatred's Soul stacked with the fully charged Hatred's Soul. So I played around with it and found that as long as the depleted one was also fully repaired, whenever I switched to a melee weapon, it would stack with the fully charged one and thus I could keep my bow charged without soulgems. I haven't tested what the limitations of this are (presumably it works with more than just Hatred's Soul), but it seems noteworthy and I was curious if I'd already seen it in this article and just forgotten about it, but I don't see it under item-stacking glitches... 98.247.217.87 16:16, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Clone tries to kill master

I did the permanent clone glitch but my clone tried to kill me. When I killed him I was expelled from the Mages Guild and the Thieves Guild. Any ideas on how to calm him down a bit?

Either raise your fame, lower your infamy, raise your personality, charm your clone (than yield to him/her) or just try again. MikeTalk 15:38, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

It looks like you've glitched tgm, i.e. you're stuck in God Mode. Since you're on PC, you can lower your stats via the console. If that doesn't work try shifting between normal and god mode for a few times. If neither of these work, start a fresh character and take this as a lesson to use cheats less ;P --SerCenKing Talk 10:11, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Glitch

I didn't see the glitch mentioned where you paralyze an imperial legion soldier while he's on a horse, and an invisible copy of him arrests and (if you choose) attacks you. Should it be mentioned?

Items that cannot be cloned/duplicated

In the article under the "Exploitable Glitches → Duplication Glitches" section it states that Nirnroot is the only item that cannot be cloned. I just tried to clone Wrist Irons and they would not duplicate after ten tries (yes I am doing the [scroll] glitch correctly). Should this be added to the article. 'Note:' I'm using the vanilla version of Oblivion without the Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine expansions installed, but all other expansions installed (Xbox 360). BrenMan 94 05:35, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Yip, that's correct. Wrist Irons cannot be duplicated. Filled BSGs (Black Soul Gems) don't work right either- you get two no matter how many scrolls you use, and when you pick both up you only get one in your inventory.--TheAlbinoOrcGot_a_question? 07:00, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Floating Paintbrushes

I think that in this glitch section you can put where to find paintbrushes like in the Rythe Lythandas house or something like that, because many people ask where to find them and no one answers where Miguel — Unsigned comment by 189.180.113.87 (talk) on July 9 2010

Because they happen to be common clutter. You can find them almost anywhere.--Corevette789 18:44, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Things that I would add to the Frostcrag Spire Glitch section.

I'm playing on the Xbox, and after clicking the Sigil Stone, I continually got sigil stones while I was in the room, not when I re-entered it. You might add more specific instructions on how to finish up when you're done playing in the test zone, as I was confused for a little while. Fast travel while outside, don't try to save in the building where you entered the test zone, because this will put you outside of the ingredients room in Frostcrag Spire, where you're unable to walk back to the room or move/fast travel at all. Also, add in there around where it talks about Fame points that wearing the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal will give the fame to the Gray Fox instead of you. Tenraah 04:04, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

I too am on the Xbox, and I continued to receive Sigil Stones after I re-entered the room. I dunno why your experience is different. On your comment about the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, if that information were to be included in this article then it would need to be included on every other article that involves the gaining of fame/infamy. The effects of the Gray Cowl are provided on its wiki article. BrenMan 94 12:41, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm checking into it right now, seeing if I can determine if you have to reenter the room to aquire more sigil stones. I'm also looking into the points Tenraah made, because they seem like they would be helpful additions. Also, the note about the gray cowl has a point; if one is using the cowl for it's feather enchantment (to carry more stones), they should be reminded the fame from the stones goes to the Gray Fox if the cowl is being worn. -- Jplatinum16 18:30, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Of course you can get around that quite easily - just grab as many Sigil Stones as you can carry with the feather from the Cowl and then put the Cowl on. But the point is taken, it's not a bad thing to have on the page, especially since this is one of the few places that you might reasonably get fame when wearing the Cowl. Any other time the people near/around you would try to kill you.--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 18:36, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
I suppose it may be worth putting that information on the page. I can see now how it could prove useful to those attempting the glitch. I forgot about the Cowl's feather effect. BrenMan 94 23:29, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok, here's what I got
  • You do continously get sigil stones while you're in the room
  • You can reenter it to continously get more sigil stones
  • The game will seriously lag and (probably mess up your game) if you don't exit the room, cause all those stones will keep adding and adding...
The only thing I didn't do was see what happens if you fast travel while inside the building, so that might need some looking into. -- Jplatinum16 00:15, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

another frostcrag spire glitch

the first time i visited the tower on a new character, i was riding a bay horse (the one you get from jauffrey) and dismounted it on the steps nearest to the door, but when the animation completed, my horse sank through the steps only to reapear and the bottom of the staircase. ignoring this i entered the tower and tried to go up the small ramp to the altars but i just passed through them. actualy i passed through everything and was unable to use the teleporters properly. after a few minutes i was halfway inside the floor and used the door to get out. i fast-travelled back to the tower immediatly after getting out and the problem was fixed.

Possible Glitch With Knights of the Nine on PS3 GOTY version.

I have owned three copies of Oblivion GOTY version for PS3 in the last year and have had the same problem with Pelinal Whitestrake's vision conversation after you pray at all the Wayshrines with all three copies. The problem is that you can only make out maybe 5 words of the conversation the rest of it is dead silence. I owned a copy of plain Oblivion with Knights of the Nine for PS3 and when I got to this point in the game, I was able to hear every word of the conversation. While this problem is a minor nuisance, it doesn't effect the outcome of the vision from Pelinal Whitestrake. The vision completes itself and you are returned to the Wayshrine that you received the vision from just as you should be. Anyways I was wondering if any other Oblivion GOTY PS3 players have had the same problem. Chris McCallum Let's Talk 19:06, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm not a GOTY player but I do have OB for the PS3, and I've had that same problem. Something with the wind noise overriding his dialogue maybe? Is it just bad code for his speech so that it's choppy? By the way I've noticed that same thing when the Knight makes his speech at the end of the questline.--TheAlbinoOrcany_questions? 21:06, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
Your using an optical cable, thats why. MikeTalk 07:36, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Actually Mike, I am using an HDMI cable. Is that considered an optical cable? I have the new 250GB model PS3. It came with an analog connection wire. Maybe I should try hooking up the system using that cable and see how it changes the picture and sound. I beleive that the PS3 can upconvert an analog signal to HD. Also I think you can purchase a component (red, blue and green) connection wire from a local store that sells PS3 equipmnent to get a HD picture. My HD television is fairly old. I bought it back when they were still really expensive and it is a 720p, 60hz TV which means I get a lot of motion blur when watching movies but right now I can't afford to go out and buy another one. The thing is I had a copy of plain Oblivion with Knights of the Nine and when I got to this point in the game I could hear every word Pelinal Whitestrake said and that is why I was wondering if it could be a glitch with the GOTY version. I decided to go with the GOTY version because when I installed The Shivering Isles from a used disc that I was able to find from a local video game store, it caused some serious glitches. I had saved my game in Crucible and when I tried to load that game back up, my character was placed in The Tiber Septim Hotel and game data was deleted from my PS3. Anyways when I re-purchased the GOTY version, all those problems were fixed. This Pelinal Whitestrake issue is a very minor issue and I don't want to make a really big deal about it but if it can be fixed by changing the type of wire I am using that would be great. What do you think? Chris McCallum Let's Talk 12:01, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

I tried hooking up my PS3 with the analog connector mentioned above and the picture is terrible. It is really fuzzy and blurry when connected to my HDTV this way and I turned on the upconversion options under the game settings of the PS3 and that did absolutely nothing for the picture. Anyways I am trying something new. I've disconnected my BOSE Companion 5 speaker system from my setup and I am using my HDTV's internal speakers instead. With a few tweaks of the sound settings on my HDTV I am getting pretty good virtual surround sound out of the internal speakers. I have no idea if this will solve the audio issues that I have been having with Oblivion but I am going to give it a shot. BOSE Companion 5 speakers are actually computer speakers but you can connect an external device such as a CD player or TV to them which is what I was doing. Anyways I am going to try this new setup for a while and see how it goes. Chris McCallum Let's Talk 14:13, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
use an opical cable for the video (dont let it get close to any other wires though or the video will mess up, while using the HDMI cable for the sound. You will have to change a few settings on the ps3 and allow multi audio (Input or Output cant quite remember). MikeTalk 08:16, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Optical cables are only for audio. You can set your PS3 to use a different output source for both video and audio by changing the appropriate selections in the menus of the XMB. Personally, I like the sound quality coming from an optical cable better than HDMI for both games and movies. --76.101.142.60 11:45, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Optical cables can be for video, but usually they are for audio :P MikeTalk 05:55, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Add to Skull of Corruption Duplication glitch?

Could we possibly add a list of items affected by the script removal part of the glitch? or are the Gray Cowl and Crusader Relics the only ones? I havn't been able to find a scripted Items page so this would be useful so people know what items that you shouldn't clone in this manner

Bodies disappearing

So I was in Rockmilk cave(the one with the Black Bow Bandits and Marauders) and I was going through a typical dungeon clearing session. What I do is kill someone by the door and stash all of my loot on that body for easy access when I eventually leave the dungeon. So on my second or so trip back to dump my loot, to my disarray, my body/holder was gone. All the other bodies around are still there.

Now, this irritates me because I had stored some rather valuable and rare items on that body, and I would love to get them back somehow. I'm not sure what to do! I read about the loot bags, but even if there is one I can't seem to find one.

If you play on your computer, I can explain it. But, basically there's no way to fix it unless you add the items through console. Also, are you sure the itmes were in THAT body, not a different one. Maybe you just misplaced a corpse (lol) MikeTalk 08:37, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
perhaps it fell threw the floor?--GUM!!! 13:13, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
This has happened to me before. Maybe there was too much data in that area and the game had to get rid of something or you went too far away? I always just dump my loot on the floor to prevent things like this from happening. Loot stays on the floor a lot longer. (Gadianzero 13:32, 31 July 2010 (UTC))
Anything you drop on the floor stays there forever, until your using to much memory, than it will delete it but i can only confirm on the ps3 :P MikeTalk 05:23, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
