Morrowind talk:Places
I've added descriptions of each Daedric shrine, but we really, really, really need maps. There are many out there, but the best one I found (that I used to give the general descriptions on this page) was in Polish. Anyone have access to some really good maps? --Ctishman 22:55, 8 May 2005 (EDT)
I don't suppose you can use something like this: http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/travelguide/maplow/morrowindmap.htm ? I have a strong feeling something like this was also used to create the small maps in the quest area. BTW, great work! Are you planning on including all caves, mines, ancestral vaults etc? --Errabee 19:16, 9 May 2005 (CET)
Back from Florida, and back to work. Yep, lists of everything are forecoming. I got Cmac's permission to use his raw list of everything's location, but his descriptions aren't all that good, so I've been collating with other sites' location data. In the end, it'll probably take trekking to every location on the list to get good descriptions, and this is probably a task best undertaken by several people. --Ctishman 11:02, 16 May 2005 (EDT)
Would it be possible to put the JAVA map in the old pages here? --DrPhoton 06:04, 23 March 2006 (EST)
- Yes and no... while technically possible, enabling Java would open the way to trojans and other such exploits. Garrett 23:07, 6 April 2006 (EDT)
There definitely needs to be maps of at least the ancestral tombs and shrines, as they are the easiest. All someone needs to do is explore the whole shrine/tomb and make a screenshot of the map. I don't have this for the PC, but if someone would at least take the shot, they could e-mail the shot to me and I'll put them up, if nobody else wants to. --Werdnanoslen 12:26, 4 September 2006 (EDT)
- I had plans to do something like that when I was updating all of the descriptions, I will go ahead and creat some topographical maps with some markers over the next few weeks. Smacd 15:53, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
New Page LayoutEdit
A few months ago when I was making descriptions of most of the places in the game, I had re-designed the Places page, however I never made it live (due to a hardware failure putting my computer out of commision for awhile). I'm not sure if it follows the standards of the site, but it was far more concise and easier to read. If anyone would like that, I'll make it live when I get back to working on the site in a week or so. Smacd 15:53, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
- Interesting...Why don't you put it in a sandbox so that we can all see it and decide on it? --DrPhoton 03:11, 22 September 2006 (EDT)
Morrowind:Places:Place XEdit
Is there any reason some of the links go to Morrowind:Places:Place X then redirect to Morrowind:Place X? Why not just cut to the chase and go to Morrowind:Place X; if anyone thinks this should be done I'll go ahead with it, just need a second opinion. Werdnanoslen 20:49, 22 August 2006 (EDT)
- Yes, please do. :) These links remain from the old page naming scheme and simply haven't been migrated yet. GarrettTalk 21:33, 22 August 2006 (EDT)
- I've been willing to do this myself, but have been occupied with other things. Please go ahead! You may want to rename some of the ancestral tombs as well, like Morrowind:Places:AC-Andavel to Morrowind:Andavel Ancestral Tomb. --DrPhoton 11:08, 23 August 2006 (EDT)

- I'll start as soon as I finish reformatting Morrowind's Houses pages.Werdnanoslen 12:17, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
OK, I think that's all of them, if anyone finds one I missed just move the page to Morrowind:Place X. Werdnanoslen 21:28, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
I've been proposing the old Morrowind:Places:Place X pages for deletion, but I realised that there are a lot of them and I would flood the Recent Chages page with them. So I think the best thing to do is that an Administrator would go thorugh all of them and delete them. I have fixed all the links pointing to these pages, so they are now orphan. --DrPhoton 09:03, 14 November 2006 (EST)
SirilonweEdit
Is there a city/town/major cities called Sirilonwe?--ShakenMike 06:40, 19 February 2007 (EST)
- No, Sirilonwe is the name of an Altmer member of the Vivec Mages Guild. BTW, when looking for information, you can use the search box on the side bar on the left. --DrPhoton 08:14, 19 February 2007 (EST)
Someone told me this was a city and I'm looking for a certain spell(Frenzy) I did find and bought Recall/Mark but can't cast them because I failed everytime I use it. I'm a level 4 now.--ShakenMike 11:56, 19 February 2007 (EST)
- You'll need to improve your Attributes or Skills then. --DrPhoton 04:05, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Ok thanks and my major skills are:Conjuration,Long Blade,light armor,Block and mercantile.Minor skills are:Enchant,Speechcraft,Acrobat,Althelic,armormer.--ShakenMike 15:51, 20 February 2007 (EST)
Secret PlacesEdit
Is a separate page really appropriate for each testing area in Morrowind? I can't imagine any of these pages ever containing any more content than they currently do, i.e., the pages seem to be permastubs. Wouldn't it make more sense to just create a single page that covers all of these places (as done for the Oblivion testing areas) with a table listing them? That would also have the advantage of not needing to repeat the instructions every time. That's my impression, at least. --Nephele 23:55, 30 January 2007 (EST)
- I have no problem with that, unless someone would like to expand the contenst of those pages in some way other than just adding an interior map. --DrPhoton 03:22, 31 January 2007 (EST)
About TukushapalEdit
I guess it's okey that I added link to Tukushapal in "Caves" section? --Monkeystyle 16:34, 10 May 2007 (EDT)
- I think it's OK, though it could also be clasified as a tomb... --DrPhoton 03:22, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
Places-PlacesEdit
There are currently three locations that are listed in the non-existent category Morrowind-Places-Places. (There were four, but I moved the Shashmanu Camp into Homes). Two of these locations are Uvirith's Grave and Bal Isra, and I was going to move them to the same category as Odai Plateau, only that isn't in a specific category. I assume this is because of the lack of a summary box on that page. Should these three locations be in a specific category (e.g. Morrowind-Places-Strongholds)?
The third location is Sanctus Shrine, which could possibly go in the category Morrowind-Places-Shrines, along with Fields of Kummu, Koal Cave, and Mount Assarnibibi, although Koal Cave is currently in Morrowind-Places-Grottos. Any opinions? --Gaebrial 03:48, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
- The issue I see with categorizing Odai, Bal Isra and Uvirith's Grave as Strongholds is the transient nature of these. The strongholds, when established, also have their own unique names. Although a solution escapes me at the moment. :)
- Regarding Sanctus Shrine and Koal Cave, I think it'd be good to group them in Morrowind-Places-Shrines, since they are also Holy Grounds for the Tribunal temple. Could the Koal Cave be categorized under both shrines and grottos? --Benould 04:04, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
-
- I think it is a good idea to add a Landmark category, or something similar. Such a category also exists in Oblivion. There are a few more places that would benefit from this, Morrowind:Fields of Kummu for example. --Timenn < talk > 08:43, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
Dubious DefinitionsEdit
This page was linked to in a discussion on the BGSF, and I was just wondering why it is that Gnisis is counted as a Major City (when it's hardly more sizable than Maar Gan or Suran for example), and Ghostgate a Smaller Town when it's clearly not a town, and Holamayan Monastery is an 'Other Landmark'. If there is a justification for these, I'm just curious, but if not then perhaps it might be changed/'corrected'? BC 16:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- The separation took place at the whim of one editor with no discussion and hasn't been edited since. I'd be happy to hear suggestions for a more sensible order, because I agree that calling Gnisis major while MG and Suran are minor is absurd. –rpeh•T•C•E• 19:48, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
-
- Well, I'd certainly make Ghostgate an 'Other Landmark' like Holomayan. I'd also either relegate Gnisis to Smaller Town, or create a new section of Medium Towns, with Gnisis, Maar Gan, Suran and maybe Vos/Tel Vos. But these are just my suggestions. I will change Ghostgate now, though. BC 10:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

- How about "Capitals" and "Other Towns"? The former would have Vivec, Balmora, Ald'ruhn and Sadrith Mora (provincial capital + house capitals). That way it's unarguable. The alternative is a "well I think" debate about what's big, what's medium and what's small. –rpeh•T•C•E• 10:37, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

- Yes, sounds good. I bow to your superior wisdom. ;) Only question is should Ebonheart move into that category, as it is the District capital, home of the Duke. Also, things like Morrowind:Cities & Towns need adjusting. BC 11:16, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

- Good point. Yes, Ebonheart should probably be in the capitals list. As for wisdom... it's more just a horrible sense of foreboding ;) There's no hurry here so let's see if there are more opinions. I'll make the change in a couple of days if not. Thanks for pointing out the C&T page too. –rpeh•T•C•E• 11:41, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks for the reassurance. :) It all looks fine, I might have a go at changing the Morrowind:Cities & Towns toolbar myself when I have time. BC 21:58, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Because of several edits made by an anon, I took the liberty of overhauling Morrowind:Cities & Towns. I made a "Capitals" sections, just like it was done on this page. Furthermore, I divided towns into "Towns" and "Villages", because there is quite a difference in size and services between Gnaar Mok and Suran. Finally, I made a separate section for Wizard Towers, because Tel Vos, Tel Naga and Tel Fyr are clearly not towns. The only place I left out was Morrowind:Ghostgate, since I had no idea where to put it. I hope it's to everyone's liking. And if anyone has any suggestions or remarks, don't hesitate to tell them. HousesEdit
So yeah, I noticed that the Morrowind:Places had no links to Morrowind:Houses, an article usefull for someone trying to bypass the frustration of not beeing able to actually buy a house on his own, like in Oblivion. So I edited the article for that matter, thinking it was a good addition to it. — Unsigned comment by 189.24.177.190 (talk) on 12 March 2010
- Fair enough, although houses aren't really landmarks like the others are. rpeh •T•C•E• 18:11, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Wilderness?Edit
From what I've found, there is nothing on this site that explains the behavior of the infinite ocean; Most notably, the massive swarms of Dreugh and Slaughterfish that will spawn and burst out of a central point as you swim. I think this would make a good addition, but im not sure exactly where to start putting it in, as it doesnt really fall into any readily defined category. 74.128.56.194 23:27, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
