The Niben River, also known as the Caledon River,[1] Imperial Run,[2] Red River,[3] or River Malapi by the Khajiit[4], is a large river in Cyrodiil. Its source is Lake Rumare in the Heartlands and it empties into the Topal Bay. The upper and lower sections of the river are divided by the large Niben Bay, on the banks of which stands the city of Bravil.
The main tributaries to the Niben River are the Corbolo River, Silverfish River, and Panther River on the left bank and the Larsius River on the right bank, all of which flow into Niben Bay.[5]
The water of the Niben Bay and Lower Niben is saltwater, while the water of Lake Rumare and the Upper Niben is freshwater.[6]
The land on either side of the Lower Niben, where it flows through the region of Blackwood, is known as the Trans-Niben, and is frequently involved in border disputes between Cyrodiil, Black Marsh and Elsweyr. Just prior to 3E 432, the dispute on the Elsweyr side was officially settled in favor of Cyrodiil in an agreement between the Mane and the Count of Leyawiin.[7] However, the Renrijra Krin objected to the settlement and focused their efforts on liberating the Trans-Niben for the Khajiit.[4]
