Lore:Other Cuisines

< Lore: Other / Cuisine

Various, lesser known folks of Tamriel and beyond have their unique cuisines:

MaormerEdit

Little is known of the Maormer cuisine, except for the fact that they once considered mudcrabs as a delicacy.[1] They are not fond of Sugared Cuttlefish, a Khajiit dish, to the point that it was banned from being served during Serpent's Glory festivities under Article 4, Addendum 1 of the Treaty of Khenarthi's Roost during Maormer occupation of Mistral.[2]

Clockwork CityEdit

Although denizens of Clockwork City have permanent access to healthy food in form of Nutriment Paste it is flavorless.[7][8] Merchants in the City see real ingredients as a privilege, not a right.[9] The Everwound Wellspring offers an alternative to the flavorless Nutriment Paste. Various fruits and vegetables are grown there despite the poor environmental conditions with the aid of a reservoir of water, artificial lighting, and alchemical nutrients.[10] The cost of maintaining the Wellspring is high, as a person’s lifeforce is required to sustain it, as the Clockwork sun does not provide the same life-giving rays to plants as the sun of Nirn Above; making it impractical to rely on the Wellspring as an alternative to Nutriment Paste. Experiments to create sunless-grown produce were ongoing in the Second Era, though it was never known what results ultimately came from this endeavor.[11]

Nutriment Paste The denizens of the Clockwork City are unlikely to go hungry thanks to the staple food known as Nutriment Paste. It is served from devices known as nutriment dispensers, and the food itself is thick, flavorless, healthy, and above all, a filling paste that has the consistency of porridge. Spices or toppings are added to make it a bit more palatable. The lack of pleasure the paste provides is said to make the simple flavors of other foods become the most delicious things ever tasted.[12][8] The paste sometimes causes people to contract an affliction known as Cyclical Inert Ingestion, palate fatigue which gives them compulsive cravings, causing them to experiment with ingesting non-nutritious and sometimes harmful materials.[13] The Paste can be repurposed into nutrient pellets that are used to feed fabricant livestock.[14]

Ironstalk Mushrooms The Vestige was able to expand the food palate of Slag Town’s denizens when they retrieved the notes detailing the process to make the transient fungi known as Ironstalk Mushrooms edible.[15][16][17] The mushroom’s introduction also allowed them to enjoy fabricant meat, as the mushrooms took off the edge that came from eating it.[18]

Daedrat Skewer

Daedrat Skewer is one of the more common and recognizable dishes to those caught wandering the Deadlands. When cooked well, daedrat makes for a surprisingly flavorful dish and requires relatively few spices to enhance the gamey taste and texture of the meat. One daedrat contains enough meat to keep a hungry mortal satisfied for an entire day.[21]

Deadlands Twig Stew

The sparse trees growing throughout the Deadlands provide an option for hungry travelers. A bundle of sticks from dead trees and a large pot of boiling water can be turned into a tasty stew. The longer it boils, the more tender the twigs become.[21]

Burnt Ends

Deadlands are filled with unrecognizable remains of charred meat.[21]

Flash-Baked Ash Hopper Ash hopper are common insects in Vvardenfell and Deadlands. Capturing the insects and giving them a brief dunk in the abundant lava flows found throughout the Burn results in a flash-baked delicacy that may be the best taste the Deadlands has to offer a hungry mortal. One can also gather a handful of the insects and grind them into jelly, which is a popular dish among the Dark Elves of Morrowind.[21]
