Dusktown was a settlement found deep in Blackreach, the legendary subterranean realm underneath Skyrim. The mining town was run by the Bitterblade Mining Consortium and founded by the couple, Elle Bitterblade and Urlvar. Their main goal was to be the first to establish a frontier in the cavern and harvest the rare materials only found in it.[1][2] The town also loaned its name to the cavern region it is based in called Dusktown Cavern.[3][4]
HistoryEdit
Sometime in 2E 582, the entrepreneur couple, Elle Bitterblade and Urlvar discovered Blackreach and decided to build Dusktown to lay claim to the territory. But in order to secure it for themselves, they recruited people with the utmost discretion. Posters were put up in inns and taverns from across Skyrim promising a lucrative job opportunity. Once they came into contact with an agent and signed papers, they were blindfolded and taken to out-of-the-way places like the Druadach Mountains or the Eastmarch river valley, where they eventually ended up in Dusktown.[5][6] The town guard that was employed to protect the settlement was called the Blackreach Vanguard and they wielded unique weapons and armor suited for the alien environment.[7]
While the mining consortium expanded and harvested materials, the Icereach Coven conducted a plot to resurrect the Gray Host and required harrowstorms to achieve it.[8] Members of the coven helped spread the word of the operation[9] and hoped to use the dense collective to fuel a harrowstorm in Blackreach.[8][10]
While tracking the assassin that killed High Queen Gerhyld, a trio of warriors, Lyris Titanborn, Fennorian of House Ravenwatch, and the Vestige followed them through Silversnow Mine in Karthald and discovered Dusktown. They decided to investigate the town and question locals if they saw someone matching the assassin's description. Fennorian discovered the Icereach Coven with the assassin and their subordinates placing ritual pikes outside of town to prepare a harrowstorm. Once they destroyed the pikes, they tracked the enemy to Kagnthamz.[8]
At around the same time, the town suffered attacks from vampires and lost miners over time. In order to combat this, Overseer Urlvar secretly hired a local vampire named Bruik to defend Dusktown from the shadows. As payment for his services, the overseer offered blood donors to feed Bruik but as more enemies threatened the town, the vampire demanded more donations. In time, Ageran, captain of the town guard, took notice and investigated.[11] To avoid further panic, Urlvar wrote to him and planned a meeting in the caves nearby.[12] Before they could meet, however, Bruik killed the guard captain.[13]
While Ageran's investigation went underway, concerns were raised from across the settlement to Elle Bitterblade and she decided to hire two ghost hunters, the famed Claudina Ildene and her assistant, Phebe Peronard. After the pair placed a trap in the Dusktown Mine and a foreman was caught in it, the overseer wanted them gone and employed an adventurer to do it. The adventurer instead, assisted the ghost hunters in the case. Once they found Ageran's fresh corpse, Claudina and the adventurer were able to track the vampire and uncover proof of his arrangement with Urlvar. With the vampire dead, Claudina presented the proof to Elle Bitterblade, and Urlvar was fired from the mining consortium.[13]
