Dive Rock (Legends)

Dive Rock is a mountain peak located in the Jerall Mountains, in the province of Cyrodiil. Dive Rock is reportedly the highest natural observation point across the entire province,[1] with a clear view of the Imperial City and Niben Bay.[2] Although the tip of Dive Rock provides unparalleled views of the Imperial Province, falling from the edge lethal.[3][4] The site is infamous for the deaths of those who have been pushed over the edge.[5][6] Not only known for its vistas, the peak is also the source of a local legend called the Horror of Dive Rock, a monster that killed dozens of people and even cattle.[1]

HistoryEdit

During the Three Banners War of 2E 582, the northeastern portion of central Cyrodiil was occupied by the Ebonheart Pact. Dive Rock and its mountain range fell within these borders.[7]

Sometime in the late Third Era, the chieftain of Thirsk, Agnar the Unwavering, and his wife, Svenja Snow-Song traveled all over Tamriel in the hopes of finding the Uderfrykte Matron, the progenitor of the monster that assaulted the mead hall circa 3E 427. By roughly 3E 433, the pair had found their lead in the mountains of Skyrim and eventually crossed the border into Cyrodiil to find the Horror of Dive Rock, whom they believe was the matron. They built their camp on the overlook at Dive Rock and eventually discovered the matron. The two confronted the matron and Svenja was quickly struck down and devoured, forcing Agnar back to the camp. The chieftain made final preparations to attack the beast, but befell the same fate as his wife.[1]

That same year, the Hero of Kvatch discovered Agnar's camp and his journal, which detailed his quest as well as his final moments. Following Agnar's trail, the Hero discovered the matron and defeated her in battle.[8] Around that same time, a Breton noble named Andre Labouche attempted to scale Dive Rock, but fell to his death while climbing the sheer cliff face.[9][10]
