Brazollus Dor was the fourth emperor of the Reman Dynasty. He was born in 1E 2815, and he was the illegitimate son of Emperor Reman II and a common-born maid named Irinia Dor.[1] Brazollus was described as powerful and handsome in his youth.[1] He was also described as strongly resembling his illustrious forefather, Reman I.[1] Since it was expected that Reman II would produce a legitimate heir, Brazollus settled into the life of a minor lord, not an Imperial scion.[1] He spent his days looking after his vineyard, hunting, and entertaining friends.[1]

BiographyEdit

In 1E 2843, Reman II was killed in battle against the Dunmer during the Four-Score War, so Brazollus succeeded his father as emperor.[1][2] He decided to keep his mother's surname when he ascended the Ruby Throne.[1] At the beginning of his reign, Brazollus did his best to fulfill his new responsibilities.[1] He resumed his father's campaign in Morrowind, fighting valiantly enough and even personally leading the vanguard into battle.[1][3] The administrative and diplomatic duties at the White-Gold Tower burdened Brazollus with duties he was ill-suited to handle.[1]

Unhappy in the Imperial City, he soon retreated to his estate in the Colovian countryside, and he began spending more and more time away from the capital.[1] Eventually, the Emperor became uninterested in matters of state, so he delegated nearly all issues of policy and politics to his potentate, Sidri-Ashak.[1][4][5][6] This was Brazollus' one wise decision during his reign, for Sidri-Ashak proved to be both a skilled administrator and a man of integrity.[4]

With Sidri-Ashak administering the Empire, Brazollus busied himself with the construction of Villa Doria, a palatial estate in the hills west of Skingrad.[1] Brazollus preferred to spend most of his time at his estate, and he returned to the White-Gold Tower less and less frequently as his reign progressed, until eventually he stopped bothering to return at all.[1][4] From 1E 2857 onwards, Villa Doria served as the Imperial Court, although little official business was actually conducted there.[1] Instead, it was a place of entertainment and diversions.[1]

Freed from his burden of duty, Emperor Brazollus is credited with advancing the arts of feasting, idleness, and debauchery to a level unrivaled until the reign of the Longhouse Emperors.[5][6] Brazollus spent his time partaking in libertine activities, games, and revels, many of which turned into orgies.[1][5][6] The Emperor even slept with the wife of Minister Arnus Demnevanni.[7]

One notable event of his reign was the extravagant Feast of Saint Coellicia to honor a minor martyr of the Alessian Slave Rebellion, which was held at the Emperor's autumnal estate in Leyawiin.[5] Saint Coellicia is traditionally honored in the closing days of Last Seed with a fast, but to try and rekindle the adoration of his subjects, Brazollus instead sought to turn the fasting day into a feasting day.[5] Brazollus' feast was composed of forty dishes, arranged in eight courses of five dishes each.[5]

Brazollus had a brother-in-law named Anwentende, who was captured by pirates and castrated shortly before Brazollus held his Feast of Saint Coellicia.[8] Brazollus had a paramour named Lady Tusks-Not-Seen.[9]

In 1E 2877, Emperor Brazollus died suddenly, and he was succeeded by Reman III.[1][10][4][6] Some suspected foul play in Brazollus' death.[1] It was rumored that factions unhappy with Sidri-Ashak's growing power decided to neutralize the potentate by bringing a vigorous new emperor to the Ruby Throne.[1] Reman III quickly moved to return the Imperial Court to the Imperial City and exercise power in his own name.[1] Despite not being a particularly capable ruler or much interested in matters of state, the Empire flourished during Brazollus' reign.[1][4]
