Guard dialogue (bug?)
Ever since I downloaded Dawnguard and I try to talk to a Guard, roughly 10% of the time, there are no dialogue subtitles nor is there any audio for dialogue. However, I can see them gesturing as if they were talking. Anyone else having the same issue? PrometheusTheElf 03:05, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Problems of an Argonian
I started Dawnguard with a new Argonian character (360), and noticed what could be considered glitches, or oversights. The light dawnguard helm did NOT have an Argonian specific version (I wore hte one you can grab inth e main room when you first arrive at Fort Dawnguard), resulting in a rather ridiculous look, and later, when I checked to see how he'd look as a vampire, it was the exact same as before Dawnguard came out, with no eye color change, and the only actual change being the curved fangs. Anybody else experience these? 205.188.116.203 03:11, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
Serana will not follow (XBOX 360)
Sometimes, after telling Serana to wait, upon returning and talking to her again, the option for "come with me" is completely vanished. This is a very annoying glitch, as I would love to keep Serana as a follower, but there are certain times I would like to have her wait somewhere without never being able to recruit her again. — Unsigned comment by 72.192.62.189 (talk) at 17:13 on 3 September 2012

Plug in vs. Expansion pack
Tribunal and Bloodmoon were considered Expansions to Morrowind, as was Shivering Isles to Oblivion. They added entirely new locations, quests, items, etc, whereas Knights of the Nine was considered a plugin because it just content added to the original game. Given these distinctions Dawnguard sounds more like an expansion pack. Hearthfire and the HD thing are more like plugins, right? 129.72.143.53 15:55, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Glitch with Auriel's bow and glowing eyes (PC)
I've played through the Dawnguard quest-line several times and the two most prominent glitches I've noticed deal with Ariel's bow and it's effect on the sun and also with my character's vampire eyes.
The second time I played through the Dawnguard quest-line, I obtained Auriel's bow and it worked great at first. I saved my game while the sun was blocked out, but when I reloaded that file, Aruel's bow now longer had any effect on the sun--whether with Bloodcursed arrows or Sunhallowed arrows. I tried reloading earlier saves and it still wouldn't work. Only after I started an entirely new game did the bow work again.
With my most recent play-through, I joined the vampires and was bitten by Harkon, but my character had standard orange eyes (like Serana's), not the fiery, glowing eyes that I always had before. (Like Harkons). I tried curing my vampirism and getting bit again, but it had no effect. Has anyone else encountered these similar bugs? I should point out that I've always played as a humanoid race (breton, nord, etc.) With my most recent play-through, I am a nord male. — Unsigned comment by Hellbiter88 (talk • contribs) at 18:48 on 5 September 2012
- Nord's get the same vampiric eyes as Serana, otherwise you get the bright fiery eye's that are standard for the other races'. As for the Auri'El's bow glitch, have you tried waiting forward a day or two in time? I had a glitch where the bow wouldn't display it's affects after I shot it with a bloodcursed arrow, but I've never been able to use unhallowed arrows after the bloodcursed, and the day appeared normal, but I still had the benefits of the bloodcursed sun. After waiting a day the sun reset, no visual change, but my arrows worked again. -Signed by silentsentinel, I'm too lady to sign in. lol — Unsigned comment by 76.122.136.202 (talk) at 01:53 on 14 September 2012
Dawnguard sometimes breaks the Siggdeir, Jarl of Falkreath
I'm not sure why but when Dawnguard is installed sometimes Siggdeir won't give thaneship or the thane tasks to you unless you join the dark brotherhood and kill his bodyguard ((even then he's not 100% guaranteed to give you thane)) and with the hearthfire installment he sometimes won't sell you land. I wanted to see if this were a patch or Dawnguard in generall so I removed the external hardrive which Dawnguard is on and now the Jarl finally works. I did have to save before entering the longhouse for the first time.--67.185.108.121 15:18, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
- *UPDATE* It seems to affect the jarl of Dawnstar and also the helping people counter in Morthal as well. I'm not sure its affects on the major hold Jarls though.— Unsigned comment by 75.92.203.57 (talk) at 03:07 on 6 September 2012
Werewolf/Vampire Bug Fix
To fix commonly occurring bug of being a lycan/vampire at the same time during the dawnguard quest line [for Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers who do not have access to the console editor]
So here’s the deal! When you are a Werewolf [lycan/lycanthropy] and vampire [vampirism] at the same time together which will likely happen during the quest line of Dawnguard, try the following fix [unless you are on pc and know how to fix in console]. Go to Serana and ask her to make you a vampire. Once you have done that, go to Aela the Huntress, and ask her to make you a werewolf again. If you wanted to just be a vampire, then to not ask Aela to make you a werewolf again. You are a Vampire lord by the way. After all Serana IS the daughter of the vampire lord himself.
If you wish to be cure of both, then the werewolf cure with the glenmoril witch heads does not work, you should know. Become a Vampire, then see if you can start the quest to cure it all together with the help of Falion by talking to various bartenders about the latest rumors and gossip.
NOTE: You can be a vampire lord again later if you wish, just talk to Serana again. BUT BE AWARE! Aela ONLY has the chat option to turn you into a werewolf ONCE. Once you use it to fix the vampire/werewolf glitch, that’s it. You can only become a Vampire Lord more than the once.
Personally I think Bethesda should leave the werewolf option open forever in case another similar glitch occurs or the players want to experiment between each powers. — Unsigned comment by 75.163.157.123 (talk) at 06:21 on 6 September 2012
Stage 4 vampire bug? (still hostile to all)
Everyone seems to be saying that now stage 4 vampires, the blood starved ones will no longer be attacked, only vmapire lords. However, on games where I become a vampire (Not with harkon's blood and vampire lord unlocked) upon reaching stage 4, almost every NPC except for a handful want to destroy me. Is anyone else coping with this sort of issue? — Unsigned comment by 61.44.84.22 (talk) at 04:31 on 13 September 2012
- If you have Dawnguard the non-hostile reaction may be after the vampires attack a city. Try leveling at least to level 10 and wait for the attack. If they are still hostile, try curing and regaining vampirism, because it possibly still marks you as an older kind of vampire.
- If however, you don't have Dawnguard, you should know it is needed for 4 staged vampires to roam cities without being attacked. — Unsigned comment by Moi961 (talk • contribs) at 12:59 on 1 November 2012
Dawnguard exclusive enemies have no name
There is just a health bar when I attack them and am unable to loot their corpses. This doesn't apply to npcs that existed in the game before dawnguard (master vampires) or named NPCs (Serana etc), but the default mobs like deathhounds, gargoyles and various other vampires are unnamed and unlootable. — Unsigned comment by 82.46.170.96 (talk) at 18:24 on 13 September 2012
- I can confirm that I also have this very annoying bug. Oddly enough I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere. This is on PC with the latest 1.8.151.0.7 update. Serena Missing
After I finished the Dawnguard quest line, Serena totally disappeared, I've checked all locations where she would have waited for me during quests buts she's gone. This wouldn't be an issue but she's still classed as a follower so I can't take on another NPC as a follower, meaning I can't get a steward for my house in Hearthfire. Any advice on how I can find Serena or at least stop her being classed as a follower? — Unsigned comment by 86.30.146.58 (talk) at 15:12 on 15 September 2012
- Serana is super aggressive and unlike normal followers doesnt follow if you fast travel or leave a zone if she is in combat. Unfortunately you will have to go to where you left her behind. I had this problem alot on 360 when playing as a thief and running past alot of enemies. Hope this helps somebody.— Unsigned comment by 122.104.153.222 (talk)

- Not exactly true vel, the game is exactly the same with the exception of the launcher (doesn't require steam). However there are certain moral issues. The reason there is usually an association with pirated and buggy is because those who can't afford the game also can't afford computers capable of playing with little or no lag. On a side note, a quick search online will let you download the dlcs but because the patches can't it would be impossible to play with the dlcs. If you want the patches you need steam, but if you put the dlcs after patching up you won't be able to play until steam (program) verifies that you have bought them. Won't even be able to play if you go into offline mode. Unless about 200,000 people are doing something wrong. Mikeyboy52 (talk) 05:42, 4 February 2013 (GMT)

Dawnguard quest trail
I noticed that many, if not all, Dawnguard Quest pages have their trail linking to the main Skyrim quest page rather than the Dawnguard quest page. I changed the one for New Allegiances as an example. Does anybody mind if I change all of the DG quest page trails in this fashion? --Xyzzy Talk 05:42, 19 September 2012 (GMT)
- When I did those trails I tried using the {{Trail2}} template so that it linked to the Dawnguard Quests page, but only said "Quests" to avoid having it say "Dawnguard: Dawnguard Quests". I couldn't figure out how to get it to work, though, so I added them that way until I could ask someone for help... then I forgot to ask! I'm not even sure if it's meant to do what I was trying. Restarting Dawnguard
So yea, been looking at info about the PS3 version and i've seen a lot of stuff on how Bethesda possibly won't be adding it, pretty much saying, PS3 might not get any of the DLC at all(you can look it up on the internet and see what I mean by PS3 might not get anything), although by what i've heard from many videos and etc, games Bethesda puts on the PS3 are useually broken or buggy (Correct me if i'm wrong). Also, going to my question: I've been wondering if I could re-do Dawnguard because I messed up on somethen, can I delete it, load into my 360 save, save and quit and then re-add it, or what would I do to be able to re-do the DLC with out makeing another character. I can't remember but I swear I seen a website that said you could re-add it and start from the start again if a bug happens or w/e. — Unsigned comment by 69.205.129.44 (talk) at 14:58 on 26 November 2012
- Bethesda has yet to confirm either way what will happen with DLC on PS3, partially why I changed the header, also to head off a forum discussion starting. Yes you can delete Dawnguard and start again. It's also a way to permanently add enchantments to your character. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:36, 26 November 2012 (GMT)
Reverened Dragon
This is for the Second Highest Dragon, the one with the big finny tail and red body. When they die they grow an extra set of horns to the middle of their forehead when their horns are originally on the sides of their forhead to where their eyebrows would be if they had those. Simaraly, the Serphant Dragon from Dragonborn Expansion Also Grows a pair when it dies too. This is so they can reuse the same animation and same dragon skeleton, even though the Reverened Dragon and Serphant Dragon have horns located on their sides where their eyebrows would be. --67.185.108.121 20:17, 13 December 2012 (GMT)

Grammar
Since this article is locked, could whoever has permission to change it fix the last sentence of the opening paragraph? The first comma (after "Dawnguard") should be removed, and "themself" should be changed to "himself" (or "herself"). Thanks. Glorfindel (talk) 05:21, 24 December 2012 (GMT)
- Reworded the paragraph a bit. Seems a little less awkward. --Xyzzy Talk 07:35, 24 December 2012 (GMT)
- Using a plural to get around the problem that English has no gender-neutral third person pronoun is not a grammar error. It's been done since Shakespeare's time. 174.6.51.17 10:37, 16 January 2013 (GMT)
Propose removing "bug" from article
Dragon souls may not unlock new shouts, even if the player has more than one dragon soul.
I propose removing this bug from the article. The way it is worded, it sounds like another case of the frequent confusion new players experience concerning unlocking dragon shouts. Many seem to think that absorbing a soul automatically unlocks shouts, rather than allowing you to unlock a shout manually. If someone can confirm that they have experienced an inability to unlock a shout that was added by DG, even when they have a dragon soul available, I will withdraw my proposal. --Xyzzy Talk 22:02, 4 January 2013 (GMT)
- I have this bug and came here for a solution, without luck. I can provide a screenshot and/or a savefile if needed. --Fastolph (talk) 02:05, 1 February 2013 (GMT)
- More on this. Looks like I'm just an idiot. When I click on a unlocked shout it tells me that I need a Dragon Soul even if I have one. But if I use the Unlock Shout key ('R' by default) it works. This happens with or without Dawnguard. I don't remember if it used to work that way before the Dawnguard patch. --Fastolph (talk) 14:40, 1 February 2013 (GMT)
- Yes, that's a good example of the confusion (I blame Bethesda's design, not your intelligence). Clicking on the shout attempts to select it as the active shout. If you haven't unlocked it using the 'R' key (on PC), you will receive the message that you need to unlock it first, which may cause you to believe you have a bug. Still waiting for confirmation that there is a bug with this. --Xyzzy Talk 23:32, 1 February 2013 (GMT)
Bug with Re-instalation, possibly XBOX 360 specific
Say you got a ridiculous bug with Dawngaurd, either Gunmar kept spawning at a previously cleared cave so you could no longer kill the bear or say you finished dawnguard but forgot to get all three words of Drain Ability then went to the Greybeards who sent you to Arcwind point and the quest never updates or gets removed from your Quest Log rendering the Greybeards Word-Wall finding quest inert.
So what do you do? You delete the expansion only to redownload it.
However there are 2 ways to do so.
The first is to download it again through your Download History in your account section of your XBOX. The second is through the ingame add ons.
If you go through the former, the game doesn't seem to register you downloading the update causing bugs such as a door to the not-destroyed-yet hall of vigilant or Durak doesn't appear to initiate the questline.
If you go through the Second, things seem to fix themselves.
Needs testing. --67.185.108.121 10:04, 2 February 2013 (GMT)
question
As Dawnguard is soon to be released on the PS3, I was wondering if one could join the Dawnguard faction (the vampire hunters) whilst being a vampire? You know, become a vampire that hunts vampires? - It's a long-shot, but occasionally an NPC won't approach a trigger point which is necessary to further a quest (e.g. Erandur in the Waking Nightmare quest). Forcing her to move towards the castle gate with Unrelenting Force, sprinting into her, etc. may move her far enough down the bridge to trigger the quest to continue, if this is the cause. --Xyzzy Talk 19:48, 4 March 2013 (GMT)
- I had the same problem. I re-loaded the last save I did (not an auto-save) and was able to do it. I think one of these may have thrown it off: 1) Most likely something happened on your way out to the castle from the jetty. In my case, I swam out to the castle, triggered the "Discovered Volkhair Castle" thing, swam back to the jetty, and took the boat to the castle. In your case you might have swam to castle, fast travelled back to jetty, or took boat to castle, fast travelled back to jetty then swam to castle, etc.; the possibilities are endless. Anyways, the point is, load a save that is before you discovering the jetty, castle, etc. and try just taking the boat out to volkhair, then go in. Also, and less likely, I believe, it could have been: 2)I attacked her (accidentally, while fighting) multiple times, and while she will never attack you back (I think) it could have caused something that throws off her interactions with others (or you). 3) I might have left her behind and got to the gatekeeper before I let her talk with me...for example, I swam to Castle, she could not catch up with me; I arrived to castle gate before she could dialogue and it messed stuff up. To solve, again, make sure to take the boat, go halfway up bridge (peak of the bridge or even a little farther, and wait for her to engage you.) Hope this helps. — Unsigned comment by 75.10.102.161 (talk) at 03:58 on 7 March 2013

Ok, I know a few people have had this bug, most noticeable when moving in or near water; random ripple marks as if an invisible person is following you. I get it quite often, but here's the thing: they're multiplying! I now have 3 following me, each at different distances. Anyone else noticed this? It's somewhat weird... I'll update this if I end up with any more! (P.S. I put this in the Dawnguard section because people were saying it is related to the add-on. It can be moved to Glitches if necessary.) - I have never had an invisible follower ever on Skyrim or oblivion, or the Skyrim DLCs. Is it possible that it could be something to do with what console you play on, such as it only effecting people on PC etc? Dunmer Lord 15 sorry people now I know why to use show preview so if you make a mistake you can correct it.
I can't continuing dawngaurd quest line
I joined the vampire side and I have got aurials bow now I don't have an option to continue I've went to the castle to kill the vampire lad but I can't What d I do — Unsigned comment by 109.77.55.220 (talk) at 17:57 on 12 August 2013
- When you say "went to the castle to kill the vampire lad but you can't," what exactly do you mean? Are you referring to killing Lord Harkon in the Volkihar Cathedral room of Castle Volkihar? (That's the room with the Molag Bal shrine where he turns you into a vampire lord in the first place.) If this is what you're referring to, then you should be on the Kindred Judgment quest, and there is a known bug where Harkon turns invincible and cannot be defeated. In my experience, I was able to reload a save from before entering the Volkihar Cathedral zone (before entering the door to the room where he is located) and redo the fight scene, and it worked as normal. As long as you didn't delete your auto-saves, you should be able to try this. There's another reported bug with using dragon shouts in that battle scene, so try to avoid those if you can. You can also read the talk page for that quest article for other reported issues or workarounds.
- If I'm wrong about which quest you're referring to and what bug you're experiencing, I'm sorry. But when asking for help on the wiki, it's always best to provide details with your questions, such as what platform you're playing on, what exact quest you're on, and the exact problem occurring. Saying you went to kill someone "but you can't" is pretty vague, so try to be more specific by saying he takes no damage at all, or that he takes damage until the very end and then stays at the point where his health bar is almost depleted but he won't die... etc. Anyway, I hope this helps, and if it doesn't, please provide more details for your question and maybe someone will be able to provide some answers. — ABCface◥ 20:14, 12 August 2013 (GMT)
Cannot enter Dawngaurd Fort
I have started the Dawngaurd questline, but whenever i approch the entrence to Dawngaurd Fort, I cant enter and the game says "you cannot go this way". At first I thought it was because i was a vampire, so I got cured and went back there again, and the same thing happend. — Unsigned comment by 71.200.19.248 (talk) at 17:37 on 21 August 2013 (GMT)
- Fort Dawnguard is near the border to Morrowind, so it can't be traveled to directly. You have to pass through Dayspring Canyon to get there. I hope this helps. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:37, 21 August 2013 (GMT)
Starting Dawnguard glitch
Despite no issues on previous playthroughs, my current character has a Dawnguard glitch (Xbox 360). Early on I was approached by Durak, I said I was interested and decided to wait a bit. When I decided to follow up, the quest was gone from my quest list. I went to Fort Dawnguard and the characters just ignored me. I couldn't interact with them. I cured my character of lycanthrophy. No change. Deleted and reinstalled Dawnguard. No change. The guards have stopped mentioning the Dawnguard too. I went to Dimhollow Crypt to see if I could trigger things with no luck. I'd appreciate any advice (preferably other than start a new character!). TIA 94.174.61.203 14:47, 26 August 2013 (GMT)
- My feeling is that there is not going to be anyway to fix this other then start a new character. In fact, it almost sounds like you have a damaged disk or something similar, or maybe even a corrupted Skyrim install. Is everything else in your Skyrim install working ok?. Not being an Xbox player, I can't really give you good advice about that aspect of it, though. --Xyzzy Talk 17:28, 26 August 2013 (GMT)
- I fear this may be the case. However everything else is working fine. The odd minor glitch you expect. Googling this hasn't helped either. 94.174.61.203 18:01, 26 August 2013 (GMT)
