Detailed WalkthroughEdit
The Opening ActEdit
Approaching Ebon Stadmont, you'll come across either Telarniel (east of the Stadmont) or Andewen (at the entrance). If you find Telarniel first, she asks you to help escort Andewen through Ebon Stadmont. Entering Ebon Stadmont, you'll look for inscribed stonework, then defend Andewen while she translates the stonework. Attackers include Banekin and Seducers, culminating with Nogral; the Stadmont also contains Welwa and Indrik foes. Look for a path to the ruin by using the portals in the Stadmont. The nature of the maze means that the portals may lead you to different locations each time you use them, including depositing you back outside the entrance. To help find the ruin, Andewen will suggest finding a second inscribed stonework. You'll need to defend Andewen from Daedra while she translates it. These include Banekin, Seducer Witches, and Nikalia the Beguiling.
The ConflictEdit
Entering the Ebon Sanctum structure, you'll read a note and activate the stone, which opens the nearby door. After passing through the doorway, you'll kill Nightstealer Sorina and help Andewen heal Fletch. He tells you he is a member of the House of Reveries. He will ask you to help him warn his troupe leader, Maestro Forte, about the Daedra threat. He'll lead you to the door to the Ebon Sanctum Garden.
In the Garden, you'll speak to Maestro Forte, who will ask you to investigate the Northern Stone. You'll find it by following the Northern Path. You'll find Banekin, Winged Twilights, and Ogrim to fight. After interacting with the Northern Stone, Andewen will piece together what you may have already suspected: you are in the past. Using the magic imbued on the nearby doorway, you unintentionally travel to the far future to find an aged Andewen, who was trapped in the past for decades and forced to wait until that time in the future when you would show up. She was able to translate the ancient language, however, which will help you escape. Fletch, revealing his true nature, appears and attacks her. Before she dies, she tells you to find the Southern Stone and use the words "baneaweh tendell" to get back to your original timeline, stop her from ever traveling back to the past, and thereby sort out the disrupted timeline.
The Final ActEdit
Entering the Ebon Sanctum Halls, you'll be back in the past and defeat a pair of Hungers while chasing Fletch through the door to the Sanctum, where you'll kill him. This will free you to enter the Gardens again, still in the past, to go find the Southern stone through the Southern Path and enter the doorway portal.
This will return you to your normal present timeline, back where you started. Fletch will be alive and well, and will reveal that the Spirit of the Sanctum used the members of the House of Reveries and Andewen to help the Spirit read the words of the ancient language, which only mortals could read. Exiting the Sanctum, you'll speak with Andewen and warn her against entering the Sanctum.
NotesEdit
- Other than Nogral and Nikalia the Beguiling, none of the Daedra killed while defending Andewen while she studies the inscriptions give experience or loot.
- After activating the first stone, and now effectively being in the past, going back out through the doors you took will still return you to the present day without having to reactivate any other stones.
- Maestro Forte won't exist in the Ebon Sanctum Garden before reaching the related objective.
- Andewen's Diary lacks an item description when viewed in the quest items.
- The Daedra you defend Andewen from in the temple is a Nocturnal Shrike, possibly hinting at the identity of the mistress responsible for the time loop.
- The inclusion of crows in the design of the archways in the woods adds further evidence to this theory.
- It should also be noted that when reading the inscriptions, Dark Seducers appear, who are known allies of Sheogorath. And given the theatrical theme of the quest, it's possible more than one daedric prince has a foothold in the place.
BugsEdit
- Andewen retains her follower icon as she is running off after inspecting the first two inscriptions, despite not being one anymore. ?
Quest StagesEdit
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
