Some say the House's crest is the appropriated Dwemer symbol for the Steed constellation
Who in-universe says this? None of the sources in the paragraph containing this sentence say anything about symbols being appropriated from the Dwemer. The crest's resemblance to the Dwemer symbol for the Steed isn't particularly meaningful, and saying "some say the crest is appropriated from the Dwemer Steed constellation" is dishonest if nobody in-universe thinks this, as lore articles are written from an in-universe perspective. -MolagBallet (talk) 02:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- The crest and the Dwemer orrery steed from Redguard are indeed identical, but I don't think the connection is supposed to drawn from that. They're both meant to display the scarab, very common in Dwemer iconography, which just happens to signify the steed in Dwemer astronomy too. I don't think the steed needs to be mentioned on the page since that has more to do with scarabs themselves, so if anything the info should be on Lore:Dwarven Scarab instead. - The quote is overall a relic from the old page predating the first of my edits to the page on 2/12/20, one that was kept mostly intact throughout the changes and improvements of the past year. It originally claimed that the "Redoran appropriated the Dwemer symbol for Lorkhan" without citation. After some digging, I was finally able to find where the original editor may have gotten that idea from - the Steed's emblem in Redguard being identical to the Redoran crest. I'm not sure where the correlation between the Dwemer's Steed constellation and Lorkhan comes from, so I changed the wording to the 'symbol for the Steed' rather than the 'symbol for Lorkhan'. I agree that the 'some say' can be phrased differently since no one actually says this, though I don't agree that it should be removed from the page entirely, given that it's definitely a detail worth noting. It's not just any scarab symbol, it's aesthetically identical in every minute detail to the Redoran crest. Perhaps it can be changed instead to something along the lines of "The House's crest bears a striking resemblance to the Dwemeri Steed constellation, though whether or not they are connected or one inspired the other is unknown." - Feran Derethi (talk) 04:14, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
