The Reman's Bluff is a ruined stronghold found in the region of Grahtwood, within the province of Valenwood. Reman's Bluff once contained an Imperial Garrison that was established following the Second Empire's conquest over Valenwood. It was named after Emperor Reman I. After the garrison was defeated by the local Wood Orcs, Barkbite Stronghold was founded here,[1] and Reman's Bluff became home to the Barkbite Clan. The clan also established a tin mine, but their smiths found it to be a fussy metal to work with.[2]
HistoryEdit
Reman's Bluff was an Imperial fort built sometime around the Second Empire's conquest over Valenwood, which began in 1E 2714. It was built on an overlook in the Tarlain Heights, over the main road. But by 1E 2719, the Imperial Garrison was in a major decline. At this point, twenty-men remained in Reman's Bluff, with calls for reinforcements and supplies going unanswered to their higher command. Supplies had dwindled due to the ever-present Wood Orcish hunting parties in the northwest. But inevitably, the Garrison embarked on a hunt in 1E 2720, coming back largely successful, but their flour was comprised and tainted.[1]
The Garrison at Reman's Bluff stretched their luck when the soldier, Zantonius, shot down a shaman that sought to make peace. Due to his hubris, Zantonius was sent to a plot of land on the Long Coast, to build an encampment. That camp later became the modern-day city-state of Southpoint.[3] As the years continued, the Garrison's food supply was exhausted, and endless Orc raids assaulted the stronghold. In 1E 2722, Reman's Bluff was captured by the Wood Orcs, and commander of the fort committed suicide to avoid capture. Following these events, Barkbite Stronghold was built atop of the ruins.[1]
During the Interregnum in 2E 582, the Barkbite Stronghold was managed by Chief Dushkul. The clanhold was under attack by the Red Sun Bandits and afflicted with an unknown blight. The clansmen enlisted the help of a wandering traveler, who not only uncovered poison in the hold's supply but that a traitor planted it.[4][5] It was revealed that Gargak, the disgraced older brother of Chief Dushkul, was behind the attacks, but not with the intent to kill or steal. Gargak believed that his brother's challenge to the throne was rigged in his brother's favor and because of it he was banished from Barkbite. It is unknown whether Gargak was slain in the name of the stronghold, or if he left to establish his own tribe, but the situation at Reman's Bluff was resolved.[6]
