Curious inquiryEdit

I was running though the Uncategorized people, helping to clean up any pages that were missing, and came acrossed an interesting case. "Atúlg gro-Largúm" has the exact same as "Atulg gro-Largum", just without the accents.

I'm curious if this may just be a test to see if they could use accents in game and may have just abandoned the idea after a few tests, but left the NPC in. I was curious if I could make the page for the latter, then just link both of them to that specific page, considering they are the same, yet only differ in name structure.

Another good question is "Selman Relas". He has a counterpart than is similar, though not as much of a clone as our two fellows above. I haven't investigated to see if they "Selman Relas" has any active role in the game or even exists, but it's curious why they left some much.

Also, it seems "Yatúr gro-Shak" is the same as "Yatur gro-Shak", except for the accent change and the extra item in Yatur's inventory. Again, I am curious if they should just be defined as one in the same.

I have taken the liberty to post a list of what could be relevance between the characters and possibly clean up the uncategorized list a little. All these are NPCs are under investigation, this is just to organize my thoughts and express them to others.

Updates: I may know what the vampire-related people are for. Seems that they all have 0 alarm and 90 fight, so they may just be vampires that are activated at some point in the game. More investigating is needed. --Brandol 09:37, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Spoken with Lurlock, seems he agrees on some of the theories I addressed to him, though none of these are noteworthy of any more investigating. --Brandol 13:18, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Hi!Edit

Hail and welcome, friend (look at me....talking like a medieval person again...). Anyways, Glad that you're taking interest in helping us with the uncategorized NPCs of Morrowind. Sadly, I haven't played Morrowind, so I'm probably not the right person to talk to about that... But if you want a place to practice editing or pile in information, you can use the "Sandbox". Things won't stay there forever, but you could annex the information to a subpage of your userpage (it should look like User:Brandol/Sandbox) and you can just link it there. Some editors have around 8 sandboxes. I personally never use any. Oh, and Happy New Year! Vesna 08:18, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Oh and, by the way, when editing could you please use the "Show Preview" button more often than the "Save Page" one? It can clutter up the Recent Changes and make it hard for us patrollers.

And when (I know, I forget a lot of important stuff) you are creating the NPC pages, you don't have to put the "|titlename" if the name is the same as the name of the page, because the NPC summary table does that automatically. Same thing goes for "|id". If the ID is just the NPC's name in all lowercase letters, the table summary will do that as well (handy, isn't it?). If the id is different or not all lowercase, then you have to put the ID. Might as well get rid of the extra coding now instead of backtracking some future time. Vesna 08:27, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Oh, ok. Thanks. I do use the Preview quite a bit, I just lose my train of thought sometimes and rashly hit save before I realize my fault. In a little while, I should be releasing a massive update to the faction section, take a look at it and tell me what you think. :3. Brandol 08:31, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Man, that took me some hours. I think I spent atleast four hours on the Factions page. I hope everyone likes the merge, though I fear it may be reverted because of the massive update to the page. *Shrugs.* --Brandol 09:15, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Namespace templatesEdit

Just to let you know, the {{MW|Factions}} formatting for links is generally unnecessary when linking from another Morrowind page. Those templates exist specifically to link to pages in OTHER namespaces, for example if you were to link from a Tribunal or Bloodmoon page. When linking to a page within the same namespace, you simply have to type [[Factions]]. It's not only faster to type, but it makes pages load faster by not using a template unnecessarily. "Cleaning up" pages by changing simple links to templated links is actually counter-productive and entirely unnecessary. --TheRealLurlock Talk 12:08, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Thanks. I'll get into the habit of that. --Brandol 12:20, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Thank You!Edit

GuildKnight says "Thank You!"

Your dedication and diligence to UESPWiki has not gone unnoticed. Your recent contributions are worthy of recognition!

Amazing job on Morrowind:Factions! It looks great! Incredible that it was only your second day of editing, too! Once again, great job! (I'll throw in another "!" just cuz I can!) --GuildKnightTalk2me 20:27, 28 December 2007 (EST)

NPC ImagesEdit

Just one tip - cropping the images to tall verticals causes the text on the pages where the images are used to be unnecessarily lowered, producing a lot of white space and forcing the reader to scroll down to see the text. This is why I generally kept the images either horizontal or perhaps close to square-shaped. If you could crop the images a bit wider in the future, it would be preferable. --TheRealLurlock Talk 02:04, 30 December 2007 (EST)

Sorry about that. I usually just take the upper-half of a character, but decided that it didn't work well. So, instead I took the whole body and tried my best to scale it without losing the size. All the picture you see are MUCH smaller than they were before. I'll just take the upper body from now on seeing as this causes problems. --Brandol 02:08, 30 December 2007 (EST)
You can also leave some more of the background in instead of cropping it all out to make it a bit wider. (Just beware of anything that shouldn't be showing in the image, like other people, etc.) Also, if you're going to be creating new NPC pages, here's a few pointers:
  • The elven races are "Altmer", "Bosmer", and "Dunmer", not "High Elf", "Wood Elf", and "Dark Elf". Technicality, but using the official names makes the templates and table colors work properly.
  • Great House factions are "House Hlaalu", "House Redoran", and "House Telvanni". Even though it doesn't use the word "House" in the Construction Set, we use it here, again makes the categories and links work properly.
  • All {{QuestLink}}'s should have a * before them. Just for consistancy.
  • Image captions do not need a . at the end unless they are a complete sentence. If it's just a person's name, leave it out. Again, consistancy.
Just a few tips to help keep the NPC pages looking consistant and working properly. --TheRealLurlock Talk 02:15, 30 December 2007 (EST)

Ok. I'll try my best to remember these. I'm just copying what's coming out of the CS editor. :P --Brandol 03:00, 30 December 2007 (EST)

NeedsImage tagsEdit

Just wanted to point out to you that most of the "NeedsImage" tags you placed on the Tamriel Flora pages - well, I don't think anyone's going to find images for them. The Daggerfall ingredients I don't think have anything more than icon-sized images available, and many of the Oblivion ingredients still listed cannot be harvested from any plants in the game, so these pages are going to remain lacking in images probably forever. (Possibly the Oblivion ones could use images of the ingredients themselves rather than the non-existant plants, but there's not much we can do about the Daggerfall stuff.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:00, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Yeah, I noticed that a lot of missing images were Daggerfall-based. I haven't played too much into Daggerfall, because of a faulty version and an early Dosbox. I knew someone would bring up the issue about those images, but instead of just leaving them there without knowing for sure that they are not possible to obtain would have been poor judgement. I'll remove those tags right now.--Brandol 10:04, 1 February 2008 (EST)
I have added a couple of Oblivion ones. Chokeberry Vine definitely needed one. Ironwood Trees do exist, but can't be harvested. (And you wouldn't know they're Ironwoods unless you looked in the Construction Set.) For others, like Onion and Orange, I've just put up pictures of the ingredients themselves, since there are no plants. I think I may do that for the others as well. (Debating whether to replace my Ironwood trees image with a picture of Ironwood Nuts, which is more relevant to gameplay.) But yeah, I don't think the Daggerfall ones are going to get fixed any time soon. --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:13, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Well, I've removed all the Daggerfall-related materal from the tags. And I think you should either use the image of the nut or have the nut to the left of the image on the page, smaller; not inside of the picture itself. --Brandol 10:27, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Okay, I think all the Oblivion ones are done now. I added the Ironwoond Nuts image, but left the trees as well, as a secondary image. Also, I noticed that Pears weren't on the Flora pages before, so I added them. Not sure if there's anything else missing... --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:54, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Shouldn't be, Unless I missed one when I went through them. But I doubt it. I don't know what else I want to flag up on Tamriel, but I couldn't find anything, expect the gods.--Brandol 11:03, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Caught one more - we were missing Apples. (Didn't even have an entry, same as Pears.) But I did just go through the whole list, so that should pretty much cover it. Unless we want to add things like "Ambrosia: See Mana Bloom", etc. for those ingredients whose name differs significantly from the plant it grows on. But those won't need images, so that's another issue. As for images of the gods - be careful, because many of the gods are only mentioned in books by name, so there are no pictures available anywhere. Basically, before adding a NeedsImage tag, try and make sure it's something that it's possible to get an image of. If you don't know, it's probably best to leave it alone. This is more of an issue in the Tamriel namespace than anywhere else, of course. Almost anything found in the gamespaces should be able to have an image if it's something you encounter within the game. But much of what's in the Tamriel namespace is only mentioned in text, and never seen in any of the games, so it's a bit harder to be sure whether or not images can be found for them. --TheRealLurlock Talk 11:20, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Shines or actually encounters aren't impossible, would they count?--Brandol 12:22, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Shrines count if there's a representation (statue, painting, etc.) of the god at the shrine. E.g. the Daedric shrines in Oblivion count, but not the Nine Divines shrines. (Which all kind of look the same regardless of which Divine they're for.) --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:35, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Morrowind:Alternate EndingsEdit

Hey, I noticed your Proposal for deletion and I was wondering where all the information on that page has been moved to. I couldn't find it easy, and since so many other pages still link to that one, I couldn't really see the point of deleting it, but I wanted to talk to you about it first. --Ratwar 01:24, 4 February 2008 (EST)

I've included the places that have gained said information into the Proposal for deletion. The fact it's not really a quest and It's just a page full of information that has been implimented in some way into the quests in the Prod.--Brandol 07:45, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Editing User PagesEdit

Hi Brandol! I just noticed that you edited Playjex's user page so that it's not included in the User Box Templates category. It's true that his user page shouldn't appear in that category and I'm glad that you noticed it, but I wanted to let you know that editing user pages (other than your own, of course!) is considered fairly taboo around here. In the future, it would be better if you left a message on the person's talk page asking them to fix the problem instead of doing it yourself. Thanks! --Eshetalk19:22, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Oh, ok. I sort of knew it was a taboo, but didn't know what the borderline was. I'll remember to notify next time. Thanks for the warning.--Brandol 19:25, 4 February 2008 (EST)
Well, something like vandalism would definitely be okay to fix, or in strange cases where someone adds an Administrator userbox or something ;). Anyway, don't worry about it, just thought I should let you know! --Eshetalk19:32, 4 February 2008 (EST)

We're Tidy!Edit

That obscure bit of wiki magic (named "Tidy") that was necessary to make the Family Tree templates work has now been installed on UESP. So your wikipedia experiments with the MW main quest flow chart now work here: {{Familytree/start}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | | | | | Sleep | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |Sleep='''Sleepers Awake'''}} {{Familytree | | | | | |:| | | | | | | | | | | | | |}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | Report |-| Anta |-| Gram |-| Vivec |-| Zain |.| Report=[http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Report_to_Caius_Cosades '''Report to Caius Cosades'''] | Anta='''Antabolis Informant''' | Gram='''Gra-Muzgob Informant''' | Vivec='''Vivec Informants''' | Zain='''Zainsubani Informant'''}} {{Familytree | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |!}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | Trial |-| Mehra |-| Cure |-| House |-| Sulm |'| Sulm='''Meet Sul-Matuul''' | House='''Sixth House Base''' | Cure='''Corprus Cure''' | Mehra='''Mehra Milo and the Lost Prophecies''' | Trial='''The Path of the Incarnate'''}} {{Familytree | |!| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |}} {{Familytree | |)|-|-|v|-|-|v|-|-|v|-|-|v|-|-|v|-|-|.}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | Ursh | Ahem | Erab | Zainab | Red | Hlaalu | Tel | | | | | | | Ursh='''Urshilaku Nerevarine''' | Ahem='''Ahemmusa Nerevarine''' | Zainab='''Zainab Nerevarine''' | Erab='''Erabenimsun Nerevarine''' | Red='''Redoran Hortator''' | Hlaalu='''Hlaalu Hortator''' | Tel='''Telvanni Hortator'''}} {{Familytree | |`|-|-|^|-|-|^|-|-|+|-|-|^|-|-|^|-|-|'}} {{Familytree | | | | | | | | | | |!| | | | | | | | |}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | | | | | | DVivec |~| HorNer | | | | | | | | | | | DVivec='''Yagrum Bagarn and Wraithguard''' | HorNer='''Hortator and Nerevarine'''}} {{Familytree | | | | | | |!| | | |!| | | | | | | | |}} {{Familytree | border=0 | boxstyle=background:#E0B91E; | | | | | | |`|-|-| Dagoth | | | | | | | | | | Dagoth='''The Citadels of the Sixth House'''}} {{Familytree/end}} (Yes, I blatantly stole that from your wikipedia sandbox!)
