Detailed WalkthroughEdit

The Proud but Captured ThiefEdit

Three days after completing the previous quest, talk to Master Mithras again. He is now convinced that Azariah is the thief, but needs concrete proof to lay before the Parliament of Bugs in Port Telvannis, which means catching Azariah red handed. He cryptically tells you that "the word's already on the streets" and that you should investigate the latest rumors. The rumors turn out to be that Galdasi Thendas, the world's worst thief, has managed to steal a large amount of ebony from the mine and that Simeth caught her in the act.

If you talk to Galdasi in her house at this point, she will give you an Amulet of Swiftstep as a reward for helping restore her honor among thieves.

The Plan ProgressesEdit

Head up to see Simeth on his rooftop. It turns out that he was the one who removed the ebony that that he and Mithras arranged with Galdasi to falsely accuse her of theft. The "theft" means there is now an opportunity to see compare Azariah's ledger, which should show how much ebony is really in storage, to the one in the mine, which shows how much has been moved there. If Azariah has been faking the ledgers, they won't show any decrease.

Mirisun Varen points out his copy of the ledgers on the mine office table, and tells you that he saw Azariah take his into the adjacent room. Comparing the two shows no decrease in the amount of ebony stocked, which proves Azariah is the thief. Head to Mithras and deliver the news.

The Great EscapeEdit

Mithras is pleased that the plan has finally borne fruit. He asks you to go to Azariah's house and bring him to the tower for interrogation. Unfortunately, the chicken has flown the coop and Azariah is nowhere to be found. Talking to Simeth reveals that he has seen nobody leave, and he believes Teleportation must have been used to escape.

Mithras is not happy. He wants you to search Azariah's house just in case there's some clue as to where he has gone.

Index Finishes Quest Journal Entry
5 Three days have passed, so Mithras' plans should have come to fruition by now.
10 Mithras is now totally sure that Azariah is the thief. However, the Parliament of Bugs will not accept an unjustified arrest that could potentially slow down the town's economic production even further if it is not Azariah who is the thief. To this end, Mithras says we need to catch Azariah red-handed. When I asked how we were going to do this, Mithras simply said: "The word's already on the streets. Haven't you heard the rumors?"
20 Everyone in Ranyon-ruhn is talking about the rumors that Galdasi Thendas, the 'shame of thieves' has actually managed to steal a large amount of stocked ebony from the mine. Apparently it was Simeth who caught her.
30 Simeth was happy that "everything was going according to plan". When I asked him what he meant, it turns out that he and Mithras arranged with Galdasi that they would falsely accuse her of stealing ebony. Now, I must go and demand to see Azariah's ledgers, to 'determine how much she stole', to reveal his treachery.
40 Azariah Thelas claimed his ledgers had just been moved to the Mine Office, so I'll need to find where they are. Once found, I must compare the figures in both the normal ledger at the Mine Offices, which shows how much ebony has been moved to storage, and Azariah's ledger, which shows how much is actually in storage.
50 The ledgers showed no decrease in the amount of ebony stocked from the amount of ebony moved. This confirms that Azariah is the thief. Now I must bring this news to Mithras.
60 Master Mithras was glad that his plan had worked, and told me to go and bring Azariah before him for interrogation.
70 When I got to Azariah's house, it was abandoned. I should ask the guards if they saw Azariah flee.
80 Simeth told me that he had been watching Azariah's house carefully, and had not seen anyone leave. Azariah must have escaped with teleportation.
90 Finishes quest  Mithras was irritated that Azariah had been able to escape, and told me that he would have the stocks carefully searched to determine how much ebony Azariah had really stolen.
