Serana Disappeared?

So I am done with the Dawnguard quest line and i entered that dwarven place for the quest lost to the ages. she's gone. She just disapeared. based on what i researched about it, it does not matter where you are, what quest your on, or what side your on, so basically i'm stumped. if any of you know where to find her, or how to fix it, it'd be nice to know. If it helps any, here are the details: I've been to Blackreach, Autumwatch Tower, and Shearpoint, and still have krosis in my inventory. also, this may be significant: I found a dawnguard glitch that allows for an armored troll, and meeko to follow you at the same time, as well as two followers. I had Aela and Serana following me and meeko too, though my armored troll had either died or disappeared in blackreach. I noticed serana was gone when i checked to see she was following me- right after Katria started following me. but you have to remember that this has happened to other people, so i could be something else. thanks. — Unsigned comment by 76.183.241.163 (talk) at 17:23 on 31 July 2012

I have the same problem. Moving to Serana with the console command player.moveto 02002b74 moves the player to a spot a few steps away from where the player is. Indicating that Serana is following but does not show up and is impossible to interact with. A fix to this problem would be... Nice. — Unsigned comment by 89.151.212.110 (talk) at 09:27 on 22 August 2012
I had this issue earlier today, but it really is a simple fix. Try this: 'prid xx002b74' (where xx is the load order, for me it's 02) then 'moveto player' 99.23.198.131 13:38, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
I had this same problem as well. It happened after I entered Dimhollow Cavern for the second time. At first I could not Fus her or inflict damage, and when I used Aura Whisper she had no aura, so I reloaded and told her to leave before I went in, and then when I got back she was no where to be found. I have avoided going into the cavern area of Dimhollow Crypt and haven't had a problem since then, other then her not wanting to follow me after Volkihar Undercroft. — Unsigned comment by 173.74.72.47 (talk) at 05:12 on 4 October 2012‎
Use this 2 codes
prid xx002B74
moveto player
for me prid 02002B74 is the correct but it depends os load order of your Dawnguard. — Unsigned comment by 186.232.46.66 (talk) at 21:35 on 12 October 2012‎

Help! Serana's stuck!

So I'm in the middle of the quest where you go to the Soul Carin and find Valerica, so natuarally, Seranas following me around and I can't dismiss her as my follower. So here's the problem: I brought Serana with me to Broken Oar Grotto to do the Lights Out quest and now she won't come out. I've tried waiting over 72 hours in a different town, saving and loading, and commanding her to come with me. It's too late to load an old save and she won't appear anywhere in the Soul Cairn when I go there. By the way, I'm playing on XBox so console codes aren't going to help. Is this going to break my quest? --ElementalDud 10:37, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Serana's big bugs don't have any fixes that work for me. Drain is useless with her as my companion (little drain, little damage) and I can't dismiss her because if I do that she can't rejoin afterward. Last time she got stuck, I kept hoping back and fourth between towns using quick travel. On the second or third, she rejoined me. But that worked like once. The other times I've fallen back to a save. — Unsigned comment by 24.212.163.182 (talk) at 19:37 on 7 August 2012
UPDATE, POSSIBLE FIX: I went back to Broken Oar Grotto, after waiting for at least eight days then fast traveling all over Skyrim for a while, ticked off that Serana wouldn't leave the cave. As frustrated as I was I started beating her up and using Unrelenting Force on her, and after a little bit of beating up she became hostile toward me and chased after me. I got the idea to exit the cave with her chasing after me in hopes the she would follow out. She didn't at first, but then I fast traveled, and then fast traveled again, and there she was following me again.--ElementalDud 08:03, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I had this bug too, but it didn't take attacking her or anything to fix. I just fast traveled twice and the second time she reappeared. 109.176.178.93 19:48, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
There is a possible solution. Leave the Cave, bring Serane via console "player.placeatme 2002b6c" near your Character ( she will appear in basic cloths) and fasttravel to wherever you want.... — Unsigned comment by 188.192.242.100 (talk) at 20:26 on 19 October 2012‎

Serana the glitch monster explained

(Someone who has a very solid grasp of the scripting could help out here).

Serana is unusual in that she has multiple scripts which activate by location or circumstance but these locations or circumstances may be quite a time or space distance off as in several quest stages away. While these scripts are running they can interfere with short term scripts such as standing up straight after sneaking. (Sneak->unsneak is a scripted operation as example). The problem is Serana is loaded in scripts and many of them are running simultaneously. The best fix for when she gets hung up is LOTS AND LOTS of save games. When she gets caught in a scripting maze, revert to a previous save, do some transitions through doors, fast travel, briefly visit various locations and so on. Hopefully something will jar her loose, at least for a while.

One very aggravating way that seems to be the most reliable is to make a series of saves just before completing a quest stage and starting a new one. Reverting back one or more stages has been tested to clear up quite a few of her random glitches. Sometimes I have purposely completed a quest stage several times, taking note how she acts afterward. (Like using sneak->unseak as a test). Combining this with the suggestions in the section Fixing the Serana wait glitch via the console is often very helpful.

  • Addendum. When saving with Serana, do it in a location where there is nothing to trigger her random action scripts. Like working at a forge, a cooking pot nearby, chairs to sit in, Etc. Sniffles 10:49, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
  • A typical example of multiple scripts conflicting. Serana was doing that vampiric drain on an enemy (a scripted event). I killed the enemy with a one shot critical hit while this was going on. Serana's script failed to complete and she continued to drain empty air. I hit her with the unrelenting force shout and she got blasted off a cliff. At the bottom of the cliff she continued the drain script. Her red target bar now flickering on and off (two or more additional scripts are hung up, incomplete). I shot her several times, reducing her red bar to zero. Her 'drop to her knees' script completely failed to trigger. Walking dead times 2? Fast Travel no longer brought her along with my character and that added an additional hung script. I tried and failed to pick pocket her. The response script failed to run. I saved and reloaded a total of 17 times. After the 14th time the drain script completed but it took 3 more reloads to get her interaction dialogue to restart. By that time the water glitter failure to render glitch had spread from all water to the tops of the surrounding mountains. The game was definitely not well. Moral of the story, do everything you can to notice when a script hasn't completed properly and revert to a save when in the slightest doubt. Sniffles (talk) 17:23, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Umm... IDK about you but I've yet to have a single script problem with Serana in over 30hrs of gameplay since getting Dawnguard. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 17:16, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
These script fails depend heavily on how powerful a computer your have that can multitask and complete the scripts. The computational power won't stop and wait for each script to complete. Sniffles (talk) 17:23, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Oh see I'm on a 360... might be a PC only problem? Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 17:24, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
I would guess that is the case. The PC perforce is doing a lot of other things besides running the game. It seems that new scripts being triggered take priority over completing old scripts. If the processor is busy the old (running) scripts get shelved. It appears the game engine was designed this way to keep the game running, letting the old scripts sort themselves out as they may. Sniffles (talk) 17:30, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
Yeah makes sense cause I've saved with her using objects and never had a problem on reloads... Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 17:41, 3 September 2012 (EDT)
I'm running the game on two test bed computers. One is fully loaded with programs, the other only has Skyrim installed. The latter, though a slower computer with slower memory avoids a lot of script fails the other gets bogged down with. Sniffles (talk) 18:01, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

() Disabling and enabling Serana seems to fix the sneak bug for me. If I had to guess, I'd wager most or all of her active scripts reset when she's turned off and back on. Haven't finished the main questline yet but I'm hoping this won't cause a huge dialogue bug later on. — Unsigned comment by 99.6.26.115 (talk) at 02:04 on 3 November 2012‎

Animal Companion?

I definitely don't have any with me. Serana is my only follower. My last stray dog died a long time ago but I can't get the Dawnguard dogs to follow me? Is this a problem with them or her? Issue happening on the 360 74.15.8.147 22:29, 22 September 2012 (GMT)

Try using the console command, "set playeranimalcount to 0". Press enter. Then type "show playeranimalcount" and press enter. If it returns the value 0.0, then all your animal followers have been dismissed. Then try to get the one of the dogs to follow. If not, repeat the command. Sometimes it takes more than once to clear the followers. — Unsigned comment by 74.192.6.200 (talk) at 03:54 on 31 October 2012

how to get Serana as second humanoid follower

This is likely a glitch more than anything:

In certain parts of the main questline, Serana does not need to be a follower. I did a test drive by reloading to a previous save back in the Vale, where the quests involved finding the Moth Priest and carving the bark. At this point I dismissed Serana, who accepted, then took my old follower (Faendal) back. I then used the console command setstages to simply skip though the main questline. I played through the final Dawnguard quest, and after Lord Harkon was killed, Serana accepted my offer to join her as if Faendal was not present. Presto: two humanoid followers, plus Bran the Dawnguard dog, Mercer Frey, and Brother Verulus. I'm practically a platoon leader! — Unsigned comment by Nee (talkcontribs) at 12:30 on 23 September 2012‎

You need her as follower for kindred judgement if you are with the vampires you can't dismiss her at that point . — Unsigned comment by 82.73.72.148 (talk) at 07:36 on 12 October 2012‎
me I just did the whole dawnguard quest with her, and say to follow me. Then I cursed her. After being back a human, I decided to finish the Companions quests, and I get Serana AND the companion each time. Then I tried with mercenaries, Dark Brotherhood initiates etc and I get Serana each time! 2 followers!! — Unsigned comment by 83.141.151.49 (talk) at 14:55 on 19 October 2012‎

Serana picking fights with followers

I already have two followers - Kharjo is my chosen follower, and I also have Verulus who I haven't got round to feeding to the Daedra yet. After meeting Serana I briefly had three, although whenever real enemies appear, Serana starts fighting poor old Kharjo and Verulus. Anyone else had a similar problem ? Kimchi (talk) 22:23, 27 September 2012 (GMT)

I had that happen as well a couple times. I think she's accidentally hitting them with spells (for example, perhaps the Chain Lightning is jumping from an enemy to my follower), and that makes them hostile to her. Alarra (talk) 09:50, 8 December 2012 (GMT)

Serana Hood

The script responsible for her wearing this hood resides in the "quest" DLC1NPCMentalModel. It makes her wearing the hood if outside and not in one of this worldspaces. The hood gets added and removed from her inventory every time. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:02, 1 October 2012 (GMT)

Bug Console Fix

To bring back the “Come with me” dialogue after dismissing Serana click on her body until you get her hex id. Enter this code "DLC1NPCMentalModel" in the console. You are given a bunch of list. Scroll down the list using the up and down arrows, and make sure that following codes: CanFollow_var = True / IsFollowing_var = False / IsWaiting_var = True / TurnOffComeWithMe_var = False / LockedIn_var = False are in order by looking at the false/true. .i.e if LockedIn_var was set to true then you need to put it to false. By doing this enter the following command on console: setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var False once you establish this you should be able to recruit Serana to be your follower again.

I'm moving this here because typing "DLC1NPCMentalModel" just returns a "Script command not found" message. Can someone verify this, please? --Xyzzy Talk 05:18, 8 October 2012 (GMT)

Are you typing the code without the " "? The code should work. I've used exactly what I've posted and I now have the "come with me" dialogue back up. This method works. --Raijin (talk) 19:08, 8 October 2012 (GMT)
For me, getting the hex id seems to be irrelevant. The first command should be sqv DLC1NPCMentalModel to show the variables of that "quest". Setting variables is achieved by for example by setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel IsWaiting_var true. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:56, 8 October 2012 (GMT)
That's what was missing, the sqv command. I'll add it back to the article. Thanks Alfwyn. --Xyzzy Talk 04:43, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

() I play the Xbox 360 Skyrim, So I can't do PC console features to fix Serana and I would like to know if there was some other way to fix it. I never had her as a follower, and once I finished the Dawnguard questline I went along leveling up, eventually I went back to Castle Volkihar and she showed up as a follower. I like having her as a follower yet when I tell her to wait somewhere it doesn't give me the option to have her follow me again, only to part ways. So when I do tell her to part ways she shows up at Fort Dawnguard and I can't have her be my companion. I have to go to the castle and hope she shows up and every now and then she will. Ideas anyone?75.91.105.133 05:55, 9 October 2012 (GMT)

Serana may be seen adventuring by herself if not a follower.

After dismissing Serana, finding out I the 'follow me' dialogue option had disappeared and she had returned to the Dawnguard Sanctuary, days later in the game I find Serana adventuring by herself in Deepwood Reboubt.

I am not certain if this is a bug or not, but is something which other followers beside the companions are not known to do.

Concern is the possibility of the multiple Louis Letrush issue happening with Serana. — Unsigned comment by Ellwood (talkcontribs) at 00:59 on 9 October 2012‎

She showed up out of nowhere to help me kill a dragon just outside of Morthal, so I think there might be some truth to this. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 04:15, 12 October 2012 (GMT)

Serana "Follow me" dialogue

In console, enter "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var False" (this brings back the "Follow me" dialogue option in case it's not present)

It worked for me.

For some reason it didn't work for me

Can't talk?!

When I finished the Dawnguard quest-line, I bouhgt the new DLC Hearthfire. But when I had finished my house, moved in with my wife and adopted 2 kids, Serana wouldn't talk to me, she just followed me around with no option to talk to her. But I could hold down E and make her wait in my house. And now, she just walking around in my house, and I can't make her follow me. Can't even talk to her. What should I do!? — Unsigned comment by 80.202.22.237 (talk) at 10:16 on 12 October 2012‎

Serana turning hostile

*Unlike other followers, Serana never becomes hostile if you hit her multiple times, making her useful for training combat skills.

** In most cases she becomes hostile but she never leaves your party and after she was incapacitated, she will stand up and is not hostile anymore.

Can somebody verify which of these conflicting statements is correct, please? --Xyzzy Talk 12:54, 15 October 2012 (GMT)

Er, I don't think either are. I used the flame cloak scrolls J'zargo gave me to test and because she's undead when she gets too close to me the scroll will explode. She seems to go hostile from that and if I knock her down into recuperation mode she gets back up after a bit and is still hostile... So I think it's possible to piss her off. Selaphi (talk) 12:12, 19 October 2012 (GMT)
If she is not my follower, she never becomes hostile. If she follows me, she becomes hostile after several hits and when she gets up she isn't mad at me anymore. --Quozar (talk) 13:34, 20 October 2012 (GMT)

Post-Dawnguard Locations

The page should probably say where Serana can be found after the events of Dawnguard. As noted elsewhere on the page, she can be encountered in seemingly random places such as Deepwood Redoubt and in the wilderness outside Morthal, apparently traveling by herself. I sided with the Dawnguard, and she tends to hang out inside the atrium of Fort Dawnguard when not wandering. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 21:21, 15 October 2012 (GMT)

I can second this; I found her in the glacier fields northwest of Windhelm and still could ask her to be my follower. I don't think it's a duplication bug, as having her as my follower and then going back to Fort Dawnguard didn't result with two versions of her, and not having her as a follower and traveling back to Fort Dawnguard resulted in her being present in the fort's atrium again. I'm not sure if it's an intentional scripting action as with the Companions, or just an unusual bug.
Curiously, when I found her she didn't seem to be aggroing the nearby wildlife, which seemed to be content to ignore her despite being in very close proximity.--Giallarhorn (talk) 03:43, 30 October 2012 (GMT)

Where's Serana?

Ok im playing on xbox after i completed the quest awakening to find and get serana i fast traveled to the thalmor embassy with lydia and serana then i ran all the way to the spot to get to castle volkhiar to get serana home she didnt show up at the castle so i waited and lydia showed up but not serana i waited another couple hours and she still didnt show up so i went back to dimhollow crypt i got rid of lydia went ALL the way through dimhollow crypt AGAIN and i couldn't find her. If you know how to fix this please reply to this post or email me. lindseyhunter7@gmail.com (70.194.66.180 04:09, 25 October 2012 (GMT))

I have noticed that sometimes after I've stopped moving and then started again (for instance fast traveling and then running off to Castle Volkhiar), Serana will stop following me and just stand around not doing anything, usually without me noticing until I've gone quite a distance. Backtracking to the place I stopped last will usually result with me finding her picking her nose (joke). She will only start following me after I have gotten up close and personal with her, usually a few steps away. I'm not sure if you will still find her after fast traveling again or using the wait option, I've never tried that. I would try looking for her at the embassy. Hope that helps. Resemblance to Christine Royce from Fallout

Am I the only one who feels Serana bears a resemblance to Christine Royce from Fallout: New Vegas DLC Dead Money?

  • Serana is rescued by PC from a sarcophagus, Christine is rescued by PC from an Auto-Doc.
  • Both accompany PC after being rescued.
  • Both are from an organization.
  • Both have unique gestures different to other NPCs.
  • Both are voiced by the same person!
  • Both are DLC NPCs.
