The no "Follow me." dialogue option can get worse.

So, apparently you should be careful about trying to solve this. When the follow me command disappeared, I told her to part ways with me, and now she no longer has dialogue options to be used as a follower. She did return to the Dawnguard, but the only dialogue options she has are to turn me into a vampire or to treat my arrows with her blood. I have completed the Dawnguard quest-lines, but I'd still like to use her as a follower... Is there a way to reopen or close specific dialogue options for specific NPCs via console commands? If so, what would the relevant commands be? — Unsigned comment by 70.29.58.46 (talk) at 09:47 on 6 August 2012

This is badly broken still. I joined the Vampire Faction right from the outset. Previously, telling her to wait did not cause this bug of not getting her to follow you again. I particularly remember telling her to wait in a few places. Her reply always was something to the effect of "ok I'll wait here a bit, but I won't wait long because our mission is too important and we need to be together".
I suspect that the problem is that after you have completed the Kindred Retribution series, the important mission is now "off" but the default dialogs are not available for some reason.
I noticed that she doesn't leave your side even when you acquire another companion during the Dawnguard story. This occurred when I automatically picked up a Companion follower after doing the Glenmoril witches quest. In order to avoid this potential error situation, I paused the companion quests while I finished the Dawnguard ones. — Unsigned comment by 24.212.163.182 (talk) at 18:50 on 6 August 2012
I managed to identify the point (in my game at least) at which the "Follow Me" dialogue disappears. It happens when I enter Volkihar Undercroft for the second time to inform Valerica of Harkon's death. Once I'm past that point, I can no longer recruit Serana after dismissing her. I've avoided that area since and everything's fine. Can anyone in the same situation test and confirm? FYI I'm on the Dawnguard's side. — Unsigned comment by N0rs3n0rdic (talkcontribs) at 05:38 on 1 September 2012
Same thing happened to me. I released her shortly after leaving the Volkihar Undercroft (after the questline was complete, she was no longer a vampire) to try a different follower. She returned to Fort Dawnguard but now I can't have any dialogue with her. No dialogue options come at all. 4meridia7 (talk) 22:50, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
This is happening with me as well. This is after I killed Lord Harkon, and decided that I wanted to dismiss her so I can travel alone. I came back and I no longer had the "Follow me" dialogue. I've waited more than 27 hours in game time, yet it does not solve the glitch. Raijin (talk) 21:52, 27 September 2012 (GMT)

Marriable?

Is it possible to marry Serana? 68.231.197.3 17:21, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

You can ask her to marry you,but she'll refuse saying even going near temples frightens her. There might be a mod that allows you to marry her though.--Skyrimplayer 17:32, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
There are no marriable Dawnguard NPCs. Vely►t►e 18:08, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
I checked the dialog script, she refuse to marry no matter what you talk. 125.69.97.200 14:43, 18 September 2012 (GMT)

Fixing the Serana wait glitch via the console

Unlike followers from the vanilla game, Serana's dialogue does not check the normal follower quest, but certain quest variables in the quest "DLC1NPCMentalModel".

You can take a look at your Quest variables with the console command "sqv DLC1NPCMentalModel".

The following conditions must be met, for her to be available as a follower: CanFollow_var = True / IsFollowing_var = False / IsWaiting_var = True / TurnOffComeWithMe_var = False / LockedIn_var = False

In my case the glitch was triggered by the LockedIn_var being set to True.

You can change the variable by typing "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var True".

You should check all 5 variables in your game, by scrolling through the console with the Up- and Down-Arrow keys.

--Geistertanz 18:52, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

(Lurker here) that actually worked for me. I set LockedIn_var to true and voila! --Abdul 10:16, 16 August 2012 (UTC)‎ 212.118.140.24
Alternative Fix:
I was having problems getting Geistertanz' method to work when Serana was stuck waiting after I had told her to move to a spot. My current location at the time was Darkfall. Flipping Lockedin_var did not produce the desired result, but flipping "CanBeDismissed_var" to "True" did the trick. It allows you to dismiss her (on a sitenote, it appears she has recorded dialogue for this event despite it not normally being possible to dismiss her at this point) and then subsequently flipping LockedIn_var to False will allow you to immediately recruit her again and thereby resetting her wait/follow state. It should be mentioned that I had to tell her to follow me twice for some reason before she actually did so, but I'm unsure if this was just a hiccup or if it will be the case for everyone. If necessary, just hail her twice in a row and tell her to join you.
TL;DR: "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel CanBeDismissed_var True", Hail and dismiss her, "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel LockedIn_var False", hail and recruit her again. May need to select recruit option twice. --81.167.250.34 14:37, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
This worked for me. I had dismissed her after the main questline was complete. Both LockedIn_var and TurnOffComeWithMe_var were true in my case. Waiting, however long, did nothing. --Elmindreda (talk) 16:56, 8 September 2012 (EDT)

Bad Stealth Follower?

I've noticed that with Serana as a follower, almost every enemy will seem to notice me, (using a max level sneak character), despite the fact that her page lists Sneak as one of her primary skills. When she isn't following me, they behave normally, (in the sense that I can walk right up to them and never be noticed), but when she is following I'm usually detected the moment they come within viewing range. I'm just wondering if this is a bug, a problem with her AI initiating combat too early, or a mislabeling of information. If this is either a bug, (possibly a similar one to her effect on vampiric drain), or due to her AI, then there should be a mention in either the bugs or notes sections respectively. I'm also wondering if other people have experienced this problem....

(I know this inquiry isn't worded in the best of ways, but I'm tired and am typing this right before going to bed for the night, so you can forgive me.....) ---Gamer3427 03:51, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't think this is particularly unique to Serana. Other followers have the same issues with stealth, and some of them also have Sneak as a primary skill. Also, the information about Sneak being one of her primary skills comes directly from game-data, so that's not the issue. ABCface 14:06, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah. I guess I've just never noticed this with any other followers. I suppose it must just be something to do with how the game's AI detects and reacts to stuff then. Still really annoying at times though...... ---Gamer3427 18:57, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
I've actually had the opposite with my Serana, she almost never alerts enemies. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't think she's ever alerted anyone on her own, her zombie or dremora (gave her Sanguine Rose- highly recommended as her conj is very high and i have yet to charge it since giving it to her about a week ago) has given her away. She even ignored the dwemer machines after reactivating them under Nchuand-zel, which even Cicero couldn't get past without taking a swipe. Rouxez 22:57, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Serana (for me) has been the stealthiest character. If I'm sneaking about with my bow/crossbow, she has a tendency to attack - leaving me undetected. I stayed hidden for the entire moth priest fight. I haven't tried backstabbing with her in tow, however. 99.23.198.131 13:51, 11 September 2012 (EDT)

Serana And New Spells?

I have been playing a lot of Skyrim these past few days, and have gone through the Dawnguard questline several times, each time with Serana my constant companion. On this new character however, I have noticed that she has a shock spell. I think it is the one that some of the vampire NPCs know. Or so it seems, anyways. I have heard the sound effects of her using it, but that is usually after she runs out of sight. I often see the crackling lightning in her hands though. She didn't start using it until I was around the mid to late 30's. Picture — Unsigned comment by 184.155.176.255 (talk) at 05:56 on 28 August 2012

She does. Often shoots my char in the butt as her combat support tactic. Sniffles 05:22, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Serana Gaining Spells

Hey can anyone else confirm that Serana gains spells? Cause on my file once I hit level 30 she started casting what appears to be Thunderbolt. I'm on the 360. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 00:44, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

I'm wondering if this is the case as well. Her NPC record only shows the spells currently listed on her page (Ice Spike, Drain Life, and Raise Zombie), but I have also seen her use some thunderbolt, and her spell information has been changed enough times on this page that it seems unlikely that these three spells are the only ones she uses. Anyone with a better understanding of game-data able to figure this out? — ABCface 21:30, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
Yes, Serana gains new spells as she levels. This is done in a script called DLC1SeranaLevelingScript. According to that she gains Lightning Bolt at level 28, which is replaced by Chain Lightning at level 48. Also at level 48 Icespike is replaced by Icestorm. At level 20 Raise Zombie is replaced by Reanimate Corpse, which in turn is replaced by something called Revenant (RevenantLeftHand) at level 38. My CK can't read that script, but it can be found in the Skyrim directory under Data\Scripts\Source\Dawnguard\DLC1SeranaLevelingScript.psc --Alfwyn (talk) 22:09, 5 September 2012 (EDT)
Okies makes sense since she's a major character required for main questlines. Would be a bit annoying if she was stuck with the same follower rules about fixed levels... Also yeah Revenant is the adept level reanimation spell. Goes Raise Zombie, Reanimate Corpse, Revenant, Dread Zombie, and then Dead Thrall. Lord Eydvar Talk | Contribs 03:38, 6 September 2012 (EDT)

Could be not a bug

This is written in the bug section: "When speaking to Serana after returning from the Soul Cairn she may not give the option to turn you in a Vampire Lord. (This occurs if you refused the first time before entering.)"

I think it is not a bug it could be that the programmers would have it like that. I mean, in an very important situation you say that you not want to turn into a vampire. Why should you get the option later on, just for fun? I say no! --Quozar (talk) 11:31, 12 September 2012 (GMT)

I concur:
When speaking to Serana after returning from the Soul Cairn she may not give the option to turn you in a Vampire Lord. (This occurs if you refused the first time before entering).
Is this a bug or intentional? --Xyzzy Talk 15:52, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
I just played this part, I entered Soul Cairn without being a vampire for the first time and after killing Harkon, Serana got the option to turn me into a vampire. I use the PC version 1.7.7.0.6 vanilla plus Dawnguard Addon. If someone got a bug here, it must be another platform or before version 1.7. --Quozar (talk) 15:23, 13 September 2012 (GMT)
It's possible the issue is that whoever added the bug was under the impression that Serana gives this option immediately after leaving the Soul Cairn for the first time, rather than after the final quest of the questline. — ABCface 16:23, 13 September 2012 (GMT)

Dialogue Broken?

I am experiencing a major issue with Serana and now with Harkon as well. When I freed her, I went to speak to her and she automatically said something when I got close. Now both Serana and Harkon interrupt their own dialogue, thus I cannot get past any of the quests without using console commands. This is the first time I have experienced this sort of a glitch since I began playing Skyrim. — Unsigned comment by 76.28.87.56 (talk) at 19:39 on 16 September 2012

Did you perhaps install the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch after meeting them? I don't know for sure if it could have this effect, but based on the description of what it fixed, it might. Robin Hoodtalk 19:56, 16 September 2012 (GMT)
