VerificationEdit

I was able to agree to release Velekh Sain from bondage, then kill him before he disappeared (it was a killmove, so I'm quite sure he died). However, his body still disappeared before I could loot it, so there is no real benefit to this (except a little skill advancement). I tried it 5 times, each time scoring enough damage to kill him, but still couldn't loot him. --Xyzzy 04:40, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

It's definitely possible. You just have to exit the conversation as soon as you offer to release him; don't let him finish his "There's a smart lad/lass" sentence. A paralysis poison will work on him too, so even a low-level dagger can put him down long enough for the kill. SonGoharotto 14:57, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Killing Velehk after getting mapEdit

Velehk Sain's survival seems to be necessary for the treasure reveal to trigger. You can release him and receive the map, then kill him to loot the body, but the treasure will not spawn.

This needs verification. --XyzzyTalk 15:56, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, forgot about that. I tried it every which way I could think of, but couldn't get the treasure to trigger after killing Velehk Sain. Should be simple enough for somebody to repeat. SonGoharotto 23:55, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Verification
Released Sehlek Vain, killed him, was able to loot him, got the map, but the treasure did not appear. PC, Dawnguard 1.7.7.0.6 - Schlikbolt, 23. August 2012 — Unsigned comment by 84.63.69.8 (talk) at 18:24 on 23 August 2012

Bug: Treasure not revealing itselfEdit

The first time I ever did this quest, I took the deal and found the treasure. Every time after that, I also took the deal, but at this point, I don't even bother looking for the treasure. The reason is simple: for reasons beyond my understanding, I can walk right up to where I know the treasure is located, and nothing happens. I find nothing but a blank expanse of rock below the Shrine to Talos. I'd add a Bug note, but I'd prefer to have some sort of fix, rather than just say that it can happen. Oh, and I'm on 360, if that makes any difference. And I didn't kill him after making the deal; I just let him go unmolested. Swk3000 (talk) 21:04, 19 December 2012 (GMT)

Could it be that you tab out from the dialogue with Velehk? From what I see the treasure will only appear, if stage 80 of this quest is set, which will be when he says "See you on the other side, mortal." --Alfwyn (talk) 21:23, 19 December 2012 (GMT)
I'm not sure what the Tab key does on the PC, but on the 360, I do skip through the dialogue using the A button. This advances the dialogue more quickly, but doesn't exit the conversation. It may be that he actually has to say the line in order for the stage to be set, in which case my advancing the dialogue more quickly may have bypassed that stage. Since he's de-summoned right afterwards, there would be no chance for the stage to advance. I'll give it a try next time I get around to doing the quest to see what happens. I don't expect to get to it for some time, though. Swk3000 (talk) 00:18, 23 December 2012 (GMT)
So, I was waiting on a reply to this that never came, and I then got distracted by other things. Does anyone know what's going on here? I want to change the second to last note to indicate that you can skip the dialogue that triggers the treasure to appear, but the page says that all quest stages are empty. Does this mean that the trigger for the treasure isn't in the quest? Or is the trigger there, and the fact that the stages are empty just the reason the quest doesn't appear in the journal? Swk3000 (talk) 09:50, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
The stages being empty just indicates that there's nothing being updated in terms of the quest in your journal. I'm afraid I can't comment on the rest. Robin Hood  (talk) 11:21, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
So it sounds like what's happening is that there is a proper quest under the hood, but not one that shows up in the journal. I have a character who can do the quest now; I'll run through the dialogue quickly, then seek out the treasure, then reload and let the dialogue play. If everything works out like I think it will, I'll update the page accordingly. Thanks. Swk3000 (talk) 13:10, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Bug: Unable to place rings on Daedra hands if rings taken before reading the incident reportEdit

I picked the lock on the strongbox before I ever got to the Midden Dark, and when I attempt to place the rings on the Daedra hand it didn't respond. I chose to place them but nothing happened. — Unsigned comment by 101.228.135.198 (talk) at 08:55 on 19 July 2013

Are you sure you had the right rings for the right fingers? It's very specific. KaidaThyme (talk) 19:17, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

4 Skulls at SummoningEdit

Hello, the 4 Skulls appearing when all rings are placed and the daedra is beeing summoned should shurely be the skulls of the 4 lost mages from the academie. Maybe someone could this in the article under some "interessting notes" section or similar. — Unsigned comment by 87.165.165.30 (talk)
