Detailed WalkthroughEdit

DutiesEdit

Talk to Eranthos about duties, she'll tell you that she wants to raise the public opinion of the Hammerfell Mages Guild and there are some requests that will help with this. You'll need to do 3 things, you'll need to find out if Malrec is a Daedra conjurer, you need to rescue a cat from a tree and you need to convince Davanna Evamain to join the Guild.

The ConjurerEdit

Malrec's bookstore can be found in Dragonstar East, just across from the Shadowkey Tavern, enter the store. If you ask Malrec about the conjuring, he'll deny it, you need some proof. There are a few things you'll need to find around his store;

Behind Malrec on the bench you can investigate some Fresh Void Salts, when confronted Malrec will claim that he uses it for bookbinding.
In Malrec's bedroom, under his bed, is a Worn Copy of Liminal Bridges, when confronted he'll tell you he is just restoring the book.
On the table between Malrec and his bedroom there are 3 Strange smelling candles, when confronted he'll tell you they are for reading by night.

Having investigated all the evidence you now have two choices, the first one is telling Malrec that you don't think there is enough evidence, he'll thank you and give you Mannimarco, King of Worms as a reward. You can also tell him you will accuse him of conjuring daedra, in this case his disposition will drop somewhat. Return to Eranthos and she'll give you a Scroll of The Flaming Hand, regardless of the outcome. If Malrec dies you'll get nothing though.

A cat in a treeEdit

The cat in a tree is actually a Khaliit stuck on a pole, she can be found just a bit west of the Guild, just over the city wall. From the Guild you can just go west, up the wall stairs and jump over the wall. To get up the pole you need something like a levitate or jump spell. Once you're up the pole, talk to Tsrazami about getting down and she'll tell you to think of something. Use the scroll of Slowfall you got from Eranthos on Tsrazami and tell her you cast a spell on her and she can follow you down, walk off the platform and she'll follow. If you fail to cast the slowfall on her and tell her to follow you down she won't survive the fall. Return to Eranthos and she'll give you 100 Gold. If Tsrazami died, Eranthos will not give you any gold and her disposition will drop some.

Recruiting a mageEdit

Next you'll need to recruit Davanna Evamain, she live in her house in Karthwasten. Her house can be found close to the Southern city gate, enter it and talk to Davanna. She tells you that she wants to join the Hammerfell Chapter if you help her with some research first (See: Pursuit of Knowledge. Once you've helped Davanna retrieve her notes, she'll gladly join the Mages Guild. Return to Eranthos and receive a Scroll of Jerdan's Indulgence as a reward. If she died you get no reward and Eranthos' disposition drops some.

The resultEdit

Talk to Eranthos again and regardless of if you failed or completed every request, you'll complete the quest. You won't get a reward for completing everything either way. Talk to Eranthos for more duties.

10		Eranthos told me that Malrec, a bookseller in Dragonstar East, is rumored to be a conjurer of Daedra. As an accomplished Conjurer, Eranthos told me what to look for and asked me to investigate Malrec to ascertain whether he is guilty. If he is, Eranthos wants me to put pressure on him to stop or to join the Guild.
15		Malrec denied that he has been practicing Conjuration, but agreed to let me investigate his shop.
20		I found some strange-smelling candles in Malrec's bookstore.
25		Malrec says that the strange-smelling candles are for reading by night.
30		I found some fresh void salts in Malrec's bookstore.
35		Malrec told me that the fresh void salts are for a bookbinding treatment.
40		I found a worn copy of Liminal Bridges, a tome discussing Daedric summoning, under Malrec's bed.
45		Malrec looked uneasy when I showed him the worn copy of Liminal Bridges, but told me he enjoyed reading many of the books in his store.
50		Having assembled the evidence, I accused Malrec of being a Daedric summoner.
60		I declared Malrec innocent of the accusations, and he gave me a book about Destruction magic to learn from.
65		I agreed to declare Malrec innocent of the accusations, and he gave me his Direnni register in exchange.
70		Malrec has been killed.
100		Eranthos accepted my judgment on Malrec.
110		Eranthos couldn't understand how Malrec had been killed during my investigation.

110		Eranthos was livid that I'd killed Tsrazami.

10		Eranthos wants me to convince an experienced mage to join the Guild. Apparently there is bad blood between the Karthwasten Mages Guild and Davanna Evamain, a Breton mage living in the city, and Eranthos believes I can recruit Davanna to join the Dragonstar Guild instead.
20		Davanna wants me to help her before she'll consider joining the Guild.
25		As I'd already helped Davanna with her business in Karthwasten, she agreed to join the Guild.
30		I helped Davanna with her strange request. She has agreed to join the Dragonstar Mages Guild.
40		Davanna will not be joining us in Dragonstar.
100		Eranthos was glad I had convinced Davanna to join the Guild.
110		Eranthos was incredulous that Davanna had been killed.
