Mewah-Jez

Mewah-Jez is a Naga and the ka-deelith of the Dead-Water Tribe. It is her responsibility to teach the novice warriors and prepare them to walk the Path of the Lily.

She obtained her position when the former ka-deelith stepped down after an accident caused the deaths of an entire group of novices performing the warrior trials, including Mewah-Jez's egg-brother, Chukala. To honor the memory of her brother, she teaches the things he valued as a warrior.

In the six seasons since she became the ka-deelith, no novice has passed the trials. While she and many others blame the quality of the students, Kishi believes that her teachings are not adequately preparing them for the trials, which has lead to them butting heads over it. She has no love for outsiders, looking upon them with distrust and disdain.

Quest-Related EventsEdit

Mewah-Jez is first seen drilling her current students in spear fighting as you walk up the stairs. If she is approached and spoken to before starting the quest, or until reaching a certain stage in the quest, she swiftly dismisses you:

"My spines vibrate with building rage. The outsider that interrupts a warrior's training often finds a spear in their side.
Begone, ojel scum!"

Speaking with BhokiEdit

She is next encountered in Bhoki's House as you return to inform Bhoki about Kishi:

Bhoki: "Say your words Mewah-Jez and then leave me to my grief."
Mewah-Jez: "Kishi rejected our laws because of your obsolete ideas, Bhoki. Let this end with your egg-son's death."
Mewah-Jez: "Grieve as you will, but do not think to oppose me, old one. That is a battle you cannot win."
<Mewah-Jez leaves.>

After you gather the fire stones inside the house, Mewah-Jez comes back to the home, and calls out from outside.

Mewah-Jez: "Bhoki! Come out and tell me where Kishi is!"
Bhoki: "I sigh at the inevitable. Find Kishi while I seend Mewah-Jez on a wild guar chase."
<Bhoki exits his home, to find Mewaz-Jez waiting for him, with Dead-Water Warriors. Whereupon they tie him up.>
Mewah-Jez: "The war-chief sentenced Kishi to death, Bhoki. Your egg-son doesn't even have the good sense to die with honor."
Bhoki: "I bear my fangs at this insult."
Mewah-Jez: "Rage all you want. When Kishi comes for you, we'll slap him in chains!"

You then have an opportunity to inquire about her motivations:

"Begone, ojel scum! The business of the Naga-Kur is no concern of yours.
Leave this place before I set my warriors upon you!"
Why have you taken Bhoki captive? He's done nothing wrong.
"His favorite egg-son escaped the rightful punishment bestowed upon him by the war-chief. Whether Bhoki aided in his escape or not, this entire situation reeks of the old Naga's influence.
Now we will use him to lure Kishi back here."
All this because Kishi broke tradition and saved the lives of a few novice warriors?
"I recoil at your ignorance, outsider! You know nothing of our traditions. Of our sacred rites. You are barely better than the insects that flitter around the waste pits.
Do not get involved or you will suffer the same fate that awaits Kishi."

Audience with Raj-Kaal SeelanEdit

As you approach the Raj-Kaal's pavilion, a tense conversation ensues:

Mewah-Jez: "The outsider dares to approach this sacred pavilion?"
Raj-Kaal Seelan: "Lower your spines, ka-deelith. It is the rare outsider that dares approach the Naga-Kur."
Kishi: "I mentor the outsider! We ask to walk the Path of the Lily!"
<The surrounding warriors draw their blades.>
Mewah-Jez: "Blashphemy! Kill them all!"
Raj-Kaal Seelan: "Hold! I will hear what Kishi and the outsider have to say."

If you speak with Mewah-Jez, she says:

"You dare too much, ojel scum."

After you convince Raj-Kaal Seelan to let you attempt the trial, Mewah-Jez continues to protest:

Raj-Kaal Seelan: "Mewah-Jez, prepare the Path. The outsider will undergo the same rite as our novices."
Mewah-Jez: "War-chief, no! you cannot allow Kishi to disrespect our cherished customs!"
Raj-Kaal Seelan: "Do as I command, war-teacher! I want to see how the ojel fares."
Kishi: "This will work, Bhoki. You'll see."

If spoken to before your departure for the Path of the Lily, she treats you with contempt:

"The old ways killed my egg-brother, and they will kill you as well, ojel scum.
I look forward to watching as the Path consumes you."

Path of the LilyEdit

When you approach the Path of the Lily, you overhear a conversation between Kishi and Mewah-Jez:

Kishi: "This is about saving people, Mewah-Jez."
Mewah-Jez: "Though weakness and trickery? You dishonor our tribe and my egg-brother's memory!"
Mewah-Jez: "No matter. If my novices cannot succeed, your outsider has no chance. No chance at all."

If you speak to her before asking Kishi what to do, she simply sneers:

"Talk to your mentor, ojel scum. The sooner you step upon the Path, the sooner you die."

Raj-Kaal's Decision and AfterwardsEdit

After you successfully complete the path and come back to the pavilion, you can overhear the following conversation:

Mewah-Jez: "Where is the outsider, Kishi? Did the quicksand swallow them?"
Kishi: "The outsider approaches now, bearing the sacred lily. You haven't seen one in a while, have you Mewah-Jez?"
Raj-Kaal Seelan: "Step forward, outsider!"
Mewah-Jez: "That is not possible!"
Kishi: "My friend-outsider will explain. I'm going to take Bhoki home now."

<Kishi walks off to Bhoki's House>

If you speak with her, she is shocked:

"It makes no sense. No outsider should have been able to walk the Path, let alone complete it using Bhoki's archaic techniques.
A trick. It must be some sort of trick."

Once Raj-Kaal Seelan has told you his decision, Mewah-Jez simply says the following before departing:

Mewah-Jez: "I need to consider what happened here, Raj-Kaal."

After you have spoken with Kishi and completed the quest, Mewah-Jez appears to speak with Kishi in an attempt to put the past behind them:

Mewah-Jez: "Kishi … we must have words."
Kishi: "I will not apologize for my actions, Mewah-jex."
Mewah-Jez: "I seek none. You have done what I could not. Your novice survived and walked the Path."
Kishi: "What are you saying, Mewah-Jez?"
Mewah-Jez: "I am saying that you have my support. Teach … and I will learn."
Kishi: "Then together, we will make the Dead-Water even stronger than before."

If she is spoken to afterwards, she expresses her changed attitude towards you:

"Outsiders … they still make my scales crawl. But you walked the Path of the Lily. You have shown both strength and honor.
I shall do the same and aid Kishi as best I can."

DialogueEdit

Post-QuestEdit

When you enter the village at a later date, you will find Mewah-Jez and Kishi training the novices together. She will admit that she is learning things:

"I bask in newfound understanding. Under Kishi's guidance, our warriors train to use all their skills, not just their strength and rage.
I am learning much from Kishi. We all are."

Root-Whisper VillageEdit

She can be found visiting Root-Whisper Village to witness the rebirth of both the Hist tree and the tribe itself. If it was Jaxsik-Orrn who became the Spirit Guide, she will be proud of her, saying:

"Jaxsik showed strength and courage in the end. She would have made a terrific warrior for the Naga-Kur."

However, if it was Xukas, she will instead say:

"A new village needs a powerful leader. They could do worse than Jaxsik, of that I am sure."
