Account written by Mentor Todwafia
2E 430 was a year of much upheaval. EmperorĀ [sic] Savirien-Chorak and his kin were snuffed out like candles in the night. The lives of those who depended on the Empire for safety suddenly faced fear. The Empire of Cyrodiil grew and fell, governed by pretenders to the throne. Tamriel never again knew steady footing.
It was in this time that a small faction of Moth Priests led by the wise and gracious Natalo Galenus wrote their pleas and sent them by swift and secret courier to orders of warriors far from Cyrodiil's borders. Their letters detailed the peril and upheaval of the Empire's collapse. The changing political landscape posed great threat to an Elder Scroll in the priests' care. Natalo Galenus asked for help in transporting the scroll to a place where it would be protected and where his devoted priests could care for the scroll.
First, their letter reached the Oathsworn, who offered the Moth Priests a cunningly forged contraption to protect the Elder Scroll in its travels.
Second, their letter reached the Order of the Iron Knot, who offered the Moth Priests maps of Tamriel tendered in raised paper so their sightless eyes could navigate the same famed paths the knightly order knew were secure.
Third, their letter reached the Pride of Alkosh, who offered the Moth Priests weapons to arm themselves and sage council on accessing those who claim to be allies.
Fourth, their letter reached the Hel Netu, and there was nothing more we could offer the Moth Priests except our home. We could not guarantee their safety nor the safety of the scroll they carried. We could not exceed the generosity of those who responded to the plea before we did. And yet, we offered anyway.
Later, under the cover of many nights, Natalo Galenus and a small number of Moth Priests journeyed from Cyrodiil to Hew's Bane. We do not know why Natalo chose the Hel Netu. Moth Priests' motives are often unknown, even to themselves. But I do know that one letter changed the purpose of our island for good. In the future, we can only ask Tava to keep the sands of our beach from abandoning us and that, one day, the meaning behind what we do will be revealed.
