Soris Arenim

Soris Arenim is a Dark Elf commoner living in the Imperial City's Talos Plaza District with his wife, Erissare Arenim. It seems that Soris has a penchant for mage's staves: during the Mages Guild Bravil Recommendation quest you will need to reclaim Ardaline's Mage's Staff from him after he bought it from his friend Varon Vamori.

Soris leads a very quiet life and never even leaves the house, a routine fortunately shared by his wife, Erissare. After waking up at 6am he enjoys a two-hour breakfast, then strolls around on the ground floor until his bedtime at 10pm. A bit of variation occurs on all regular weekdays (Morndas to Fredas), when fellow Dunmer and neighbor Ulen Athram pays him a visit between 1pm and 6pm.

He wears a middle-class outfit consisting of a burgundy linen shirt, tan linens, and a pair of doeskin shoes. He carries the key to his house, as well as a leveled amount of gold.

DialogueEdit

When greeting you, he will introduce himself: "Good day, stranger. Soris Arenim is my name."

Imperial City
"I don't know. Just take a walk around. Buy something. Plenty of stores. Why'd you come in the first place?"

Quest-Related EventsEdit

After convincing Varon to own up to his stalking of Ardaline, he will admit to stealing her mage's staff and selling it to Soris:

Mage's Staff
"All right, I admit it. I took it from her. I... I don't know what I was thinking, honestly. I was trying to tell her how I feel.... again... and she wouldn't even stop to talk to me. I just got so angry! I was a little ashamed afterwards, but didn't know how to apologize or give it back. I wish I could... I'm afraid I don't have it anymore, you see. I... I sold it. To a friend of mine, Soris Arenim."
Mage's Staff
"If I still had it, I'd gladly give it back. You'll have to talk to Soris Arenim if you want it."
Soris Arenim
"He lives in the Talos Plaza district of the Imperial City. He's the one who has Ardaline's staff now."

Head over to the capital city and you'll be able to question Soris about the Mage's Staff. His response will depend on his disposition:

Answer Disposition
"What of it? Varon hasn't sent you, has he? I've told him several times now that I simply can't just give it back to him. Run along and let him know I haven't changed my mind, will you?" Below 30
"Yes, I have the staff Varon sold me. I'm afraid I'm not willing to part with it. I paid good money for it, after all. You understand, of course." Between 30 and 49
"As much as I like you, friend, I'm just not willing to part with that staff. It's nothing personal." Between 50 and 69
"Look, I can't just give it to you. I paid good money for it, after all. I'll tell you what. You give me at least a portion of what I paid for it, say two hundred gold, and I'll give you the staff. That's a good deal, right? I wouldn't offer it to anyone else, just you. So what do you say?" 70 and above

If you manage to raise his Disposition to above 70, you will then be able to either take up his offer or reject it.

No.
"Are you sure? Well, all right. I can't give you a better offer."
It's a deal.
"I'll just take the money from you then... what, you don't have it? I don't see how we can do business if you don't have the gold for it."
"I'll just take the money from you then. And here's your staff. Now, since our business is concluded, you must excuse me. Good day."

If you initially reject, he will part ways with:

"Think about that offer, friend."

When approached he will now say:

"Changed your mind, have you? The offer's still good."

If you ask him again about the staff he will repeat:

Mage's Staff
"I made you an offer already. Two hundred gold, in exchange for the staff. Are you prepared to accept it now?"

Should you accept, he will happily sell you the staff, which allows you to complete the quest. If you'd rather not pay for it and instead wish to steal it, his wife will breezily tell you:

Mage's Staff
"That thing? Soris keeps it locked in a chest, down in the basement. I don't see why he's so careful with it. It's not like anyone determined enough couldn't get their hands on it; the key is in his desk, after all."

Once you have completed the quest, residents of the Imperial City may be heard discussing Soris, based on how you acquired the staff:

"Soris Arenim sure seems upset. I think he lost something important."
"I heard that Soris Arenim made himself quite a bit of money recently. He seems very happy about it."
