BowsEdit

Would it be worth adding, that according to [[Lore:'A Dance in Fire'|A Dance in Fire, Chapter 1 t the Bosmer, alongside being proficient with bows, actually invented them also? Vos 22:09, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

I will add it soon. I don't think A Dance in Fire is supposed to be historically accurate, but even works of fiction can evidence cultural norms and historical events. Judging by the context (in Chapter 3) it's entirely possible that Captain Balfix's character was exaggerating, or referring to an urban legend, so I will have to preface it as a common rumor rather than fact. Need an imageEdit

I'm working on an update to this page, and though it's not finished as of now, it's definitely running long and would benefit from another image, but I can't seem to find anything worthwhile. Right now, my default choice is the crude sketch of the Imga, but I'm only very briefly mentioning them. Yay or nay? And I'd love to hear alternatives. Something related to Bosmer society or religion is preferable; screenshots are disfavored, but any port in a storm will do. Minor Edits 22:01, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

In game contradictionsEdit

If the bosmer aren't aloud to destroy plants personaly, then why do they have bonuses to alchemy in most of the games? Andil the mage 16:57, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Bosmer aren't allowed to harm the vegetation of Valenwood. Minor Edits 20:48, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
It's a pretty ridiculous condition. What are the chances of even a single Bosmer living his/her life out in Valenwood without harming any of the vegetation? How many times have you stepped on a weed without even noticing it? Think about how hard that would be to avoid if you were in a jungle lol. Bethesda really didn't think that one through, so I'm just going to stop trying now.--62.30.162.142 02:17, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
I see it as "they can't kill the plants". But pulling leaves or seeds or fruits wouldn't hurt the vegetation so you can respect a plant and still practice alchemy with it. ESQuestion?EmailContribs 02:31, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
True. The level of care accorded Valenwood's vegetation probably varies with each individual.
In reply to the anon, it all actually makes a lot of sense, as a close reading of the article should make clear that Bosmeri society is heavily dependent on trade. That's likely why they were the first of the Elves to accept the Empires of Man as trading partners, the first to sign a treaty with them, and why they are extremely careful about going to war. It also may be why they're relatively accepting of powerful foreign governments who wish to assert control over Valenwood (strong ties with powerful foreign nations can help to promote trade and protect the nature of Valenwood from the ravages of extended war). Their beliefs necessitate a great deal of commerce, and they likely need foreigners in Valenwood to deal with excessive vegetation when necessary. Minor Edits 05:01, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
The ultimate point being, of course, that for a Bosmer in Valenwood, many alchemical ingredients are likely rare and expensive, so they would have to be very judicious about using them. It would make less sense if they'd never had an alchemy bonus. Minor Edits 05:07, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Race Longevity?Edit

I am looking for information on how old Bosmer can get. I have found indications that Altmer in general outlive humans, but how old can they get? How often do they have children if they live hundreds of years? Since Bosmer intermarried early on with Men how would that have affected them as a race? I have not found any concrete information on any of the Tamrilic races and would like to know if any exists. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 167.128.19.234 (talk) at 15:54 on 18 October 2012‎

This section was made in 2012 but it fits what I have to ask easily enough. It's about elven lifespans. "Bosmer live two to three times as long as humans; with a 200-year-old Bosmer being old and a 300-year-old Bosmer being very, very old." This was attributed to the "Ask Us Anything: Variety Pack 4" news post, but considering that unlike many other ESO lore posts, it isn't attributed to an in-world source, shouldn't it be marked as UOL? -CoolBlast3 4:37PM, 7th November 2020 (UTC)
Ask Us Anything is technically 100% officially licensed lore by Bethesda/Zenimax, but it is sometimes marked as UOL as it is not information given within the game itself, but usually it is marked as a regular source as its, well, official (its weird to me too). Lore like this is basically "canon until proven otherwise", such as when eso khajiit were stated to be Suthay-raht before being retconned into Cathay. The statement on the Bosmer lifespans should be fine to be added, idk about how to mark it but I'd prefer just a regular citation. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 19:51, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

Taller femalesEdit

Has anyone noticed that in the recent games the female bosmer is taller then the male? Because I was looking at the races in Skyrim and it said the males are 0.95 tall but the females are 1 tall. — Unsigned comment by Awsomedawg (talkcontribs) at 19:47 on 31 December 2012

I don't have access to older games, but in Morrowind and Oblivion, females are taller too. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:52, 31 December 2012 (GMT)
The older games don't have character heights (if I recall correctly). • JAT 20:18, 31 December 2012 (GMT)
I have also noticed that female bosmers are taller than their male counterparts. In ESO, I made a female bosmer as small as possible, with the height slider at the minimum, and she was still taller than some males I encountered.TRoclodyte (talk) 18:03, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Tree-Sap People?Edit

I can't find a source for this term. It was on the page when it was created. If it's accurate, I assume it's from the early games. But I feel obliged to remove it if no one can provide a source, along with any other unsourced info.

I don't know if anyone else has been watching the ShoddyCast TES lore series on Youtube. They're very good, but once or twice they've made factual mistakes which I've traced back to erroneous information on the UESP. I would prefer that this not happen again. Anyways, they're going to release a video on the Bosmer in two weeks. If they make reference to the "Tree-Sap People", for example, and this term turns out to have no basis in the games, it will make the UESP look bad. So, source or it didn't happen. This line of dialogue from Morrowind may help to verify that statement. It's fairly similar (actually it may be identical), but this line of dialogue mentions it as well. Forfeit (talk) 00:07, 1 September 2013 (GMT)
Its the Morrowind in-game description according to TIL, but it doesn't correspond to our copy of that on MW:Bosmer. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:15, 1 September 2013 (GMT)
Thanks. Forgot to do a CSList search. Interesting discrepancy, Silencer. Anyone want to load up a new game of Morrowind and see which is correct? Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 00:25, 1 September 2013 (GMT)
Looking at the Construction Set and the description found in CSList, the description currently on the Morrowind:Bosmer page is accurate. I didn't check in-game, but can't imagine why it would be different. Forfeit (talk) 01:01, 1 September 2013 (GMT)
The TIL description is a mix of both those links, so we're ok. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:40, 1 September 2013 (GMT)

Y'ffre and HircineEdit

Should there be any mention of the affiliation/likely connection between Y'ffre and Hircine? That it's possible Hircine either is or at some point hijacked the concept of Y'ffre? The Wild Hunt as it's described is almost certainly a Daedric deal, especially if it's gone down as late as the third era... and Hircine is the Daedric Prince who's all about hunting and beast-forms. — Unsigned comment by Grieves (talkcontribs) at 14:32 on 24 October 2013 (GMT)

Half-assed revampEdit

Despite the length of this monstrosity, there are significant gaps. I didn't looked over several of the entries from the ESO Interactive Map of Tamriel. I also have yet to peruse the Emperor's Guide to Tamriel, or that hero guide. The article is currently almost entirely lacking in-game ESO info. There are no doubt several quests and many bits of dialogue which could possess additional relevant information. And despite perusing Bosmer-related books on and off for over a month, I may have missed some relevant ESO texts in my source pull. Long story short, the article isn't finished, but I ran out of energy. Insignificant RevisionsThreatsEvidence 01:36, 3 July 2014 (GMT)

If this is what you consider a half-assed revamp, then you have set the bar very high! A great job as always. I'm sure the missing info will find its own way into the article over the coming weeks and months. --Jimeee (talk) 10:29, 3 July 2014 (GMT)
