yet thy mother is the moon,

The Black Rose is a flower with known prominence on the Morrowind mainland[2] and the Iliac Bay area.[3] It is late-blooming and said to possess a sweet spicy smell.[2] Within Morrowind, it is known to grow in every shadowy nook and crevice of the highlands, finding nourishment even in the stoniest banks and ridges.[2]

The flower is of some mythic significance to the Dark Elves, their race is said to be as: "deadly as the thorns of the black rose which blooms only in thy mother's breast," with said mother being "the moon," and the Dark Elven folk being her "children of the night."[1] Subsequently, the Black Rose of Morrrowind is associated in the symbologies of House Mora and Clan Ra'athim,[UOL 1] who outfitted themselves in adornments resembling garlands, roses, thorns, and leaves.[4][5] Urili Vox, the Magistrix of Morals for Almalexia, once induced an Imperial painter and chronicler Flaccus Terentius, into a "vision of the Fore Times," wherein he witnessed a vision of a Black Rose hovering before him, petals falling from a withering vine.[6]

Black Roses are associated with "Daedric influence" and "dark nature magic."[7][8] And have some association with the Bloodthorn Cult.[9]

- Azura is seen holding a black rose during her appearance in Daggerfall,[10] one of her titles is Mother of the Rose[11] or Mother of the Roses.[12]
