WelcomeEdit

Hello Dbbolton! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you, on the other hand, would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at this link:

  • Userboxes: near complete list of userboxes, including a guide to make your own

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! --ABCface 06:42, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit SummariesEdit

Hiya Dbbolton! As a courtesy to other editors, please remember to leave edit summaries when making changes to a page (especially when removing information). This helps to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, so that others can have a better understanding of what you are trying to do. Thanks! — ABCface 05:43, 21 August 2013 (GMT)

Whoops. I probably forgot to tick the minor edit checkbox. Dbbolton (talk) 05:59, 21 August 2013 (GMT)
Whether it's a minor edit or not, it's best to leave an edit summary. Otherwise, there is no explanation for why you made a change, and sometimes it is not obvious. — ABCface 06:11, 21 August 2013 (GMT)

RedirectsEdit

Can you please go easy on the redirects, not every variation of spelling or capitalization is deserving of a redirect, else we would have millions of them. As a basic rule every page on the wiki has every word capitalized, with exceptions only for articles sourced directly from the games. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:10, 17 June 2014 (GMT)

I have made a grand total of five redirects this week, only one of which was spelling-related. Are we in danger of running out of server space or something? Dbbolton (talk) 18:17, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
Please do not try and have an attitude over this minor issue. All of those redirects were in error, as well as three others over the entire time you've edited here, which have all now been proposed for deletion. The three you made for the Lore Dragon page are categorized improperly which I am currently fixing, so have a good day. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:24, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
Dbbolton, Silencer noticed that you were displaying a pattern of editing that wasn't ideal, so he's asking you nicely to stop and explaining why, because edits like that make patrollers' jobs more difficult. He's not criticizing you, he's just trying to educate. Also, you should be careful about how you respond. Your response could be construed as sarcasm, which is a violation of our etiquette policy. My response was a serious inquiry as to how redirects harm the wiki, which I still don't understand. All I have gathered is that they must be patrolled and deleted for some unknown reason. Why not just leave them alone? Does every single redirect page have to conform to a strict set of guidelines? If so, perhaps it would be easier to show me those guidelines. Dbbolton (talk) 18:33, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
Every redirect must have a reason to exist, and the reasons the ones you created don't are outlined in my initial post. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:37, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
You only explained in the original post that we aren't allowed to make and spelling variation or capitalization redirects. Dbbolton (talk) 18:43, 17 June 2014 (GMT)

() Think of it this way: It's less an issue with redirects and more an issue with pointless edits in general. The wiki will automatically redirect those pages to the right places anyway, so creating a redirect serves no real purpose other than to make patrollers spend extra time ensuring that an edit is up to snuff (which, in the case of the Dragon article, they weren't). In the interest of not creating more work for us, we're asking you not to do it in the future. That's all we're saying. ThuumofReason (talk) 18:46, 17 June 2014 (GMT)
