Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Laalalvo Irano has new orders for you. This time, your mission is to find and (if needed) rescue Surol Volayn, an adopted child of the Arenim noble family. You may have encountered her on previous Fighters Guild quests, for example in Noble Protection, when she told you to remember the roots of the Fighters Guild. It seems she has gone missing.
Enter the Laughing Goblin tavern in Akamora, ascend the stairs and exit via the door opposite the bar, onto the balcony. The entrance to Arenim Manor will be up the stairs to your left. Speak to Llavane Arenim, Surol's adoptive mother, inside the manor. She will direct you to search Surol's room for clues of her whereabouts. Surol's room is on the top floor on the east side of the manor. Look for Surol Volayn's Map stuck to the ceiling, right above the bed.
Show this map to Llavane. She will confirm it to be a drawing of her daughter's, and identify the location as the fabled Shambalu, in the Valley of Mephala. She asks that you follow the map and retrieve her daughter.
Begin the trail from Akamora's silt strider, and follow the path running north, up a hill. It's a steep climb, and should take you to a high point with wooden platforms, looking out over the valley. Akamora's watchtower will be visible to the east.
Follow the wooden walkways down the hill, past Lloris Serin's Shack. You should see a long rope bridge crossing the gorge to the north, which you must venture over. At the end of this bridge, you may be able to see a statue of Mephala on a high hill. She is looking down on your destination, which you should follow the path leading away from the bridge to get to. Follow the path straight until it takes you under a rock arch. You have entered the Valley of Mephala.
The daedric ruin, Shambalu, is your target. Use Slowfall to descend directly to it, or walk around the rim of the valley until the rocky lip slopes downwards, to the valley floor. Either way, you'll need to make your way to the shrine entrance, on the western side of the valley. Expect to meet plenty of daedra on the way.
The interior of Shambalu is, much like the Mephalan Vales, mazelike, and filled with Dridrea. You need to fight your way to the door to the shrine, at the northwestern end. Here, beneath the statue of Mephala, Surol Volayn awaits. Get too close and four Dridrea will spawn and attack. You must kill these to progress.
Once the Dridrea are dead, Surol will reveal all, including the machinations of Mephala in all that you and the guild have experienced so far. She will comment on your actions throughout the questline, being generally dismissive if you have followed orders, while offering plaudits if you have not. Ultimately, she will insist on staying. While you can fight and kill her, you will receive no reward, and may actually disappoint Laalalvo. Simply leave of your own accord (and on no account agree to letting Surol send you back to Akamora as that will simply teleport you to a lethal height above the city).
Return to Laalalvo to reveal all, and receive your final reward - 600 gold. If you have always pleased Laalalvo (this includes following her path on all Fighters Guild quests, never risking the guild's reputation), she will also grant you the Gauntlet of Shieldbearing.
This marks the end of the Fighters Guild questline in Akamora.
NotesEdit
- Your reward at end of the quest depends on your decisions taken during Conflict of Interest, Noble Protection, No Sin Goes Unpunished and Akavorioc.
- If you spared Olmu Llendu and left Akavorioc's cattle alive you will be rewarded with Daedric Hand of Ambidexterity from Surol Volayn and 600 gold from Laalalvo Irano.
- If you didn't risk guild's reputation during prior quests (have killed Olmu Llendu outside Necrom, returned the slaves or freed them discreetly, dealt with culprit behind the deaths of the Telomas properly), you'll receive Gauntlet of Shieldbearing and 600 gold from Laalalvo, but nothing from Surol.
